Officials said Meloni's invitation to Prime Minister Modi for the G7 Summit in Italy's Puglia in June after the elections reiterates this confidence. Italian PM Meloni invites PM Modi to G7 Summit Outreach Session in June

Kuwaiti authorities are conducting DNA tests on the bodies of over 40 <keyword id="22038005" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indians-killed" source="keywords">Indians killed</keyword> in the devastating fire in Mangaf area, with an <keyword id="472686" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IAF-aircraft" source="Orion">IAF aircraft</keyword> on standby to bring back the mortal remains, officials said on Thursday. Minister of State for <keyword id="43920" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="External-Affairs" source="Orion">External Affairs</keyword> Kirti Vardhan Singh reached Kuwait to oversee assistance to Indians injured in the fire and to ensure early repatriation of mortal remains. The total number of people killed in the fire incident in the southern Kuwait locality is 49 and 42 of them are learnt to be Indians, the officials said. The IAF aircraft has been kept on stand-by to bring back the mortal remains, officials said. Hours after arriving in Kuwait, Singh met the Gulf nation's foreign minister <keyword id="22043093" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abdullah-Ali-Al-Yahya" source="Orion">Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya</keyword>. The <keyword id="54656" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-embassy" source="Orion">Indian embassy</keyword> in Kuwait said Al-Yahya assured of full support including for medical care, early repatriation of mortal remains and investigation into the incident. Construction firm NBTC group rented the building for the stay of more than 195 workers, most of them Indians from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and northern states, the Kuwaiti media said. The NBTC group is partly owned by an Indian, officials said. Interior Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousuf Al-Sabah ordered an investigation into the fire incident and issued directions to apprehend the owner and janitor of Al-Mangaf building.

Zakharova, in addition to criticising the US stance on religious freedom, also accused Washington of adopting a repressive attitude and failing to respect India's sovereignty. The MEA said that the Canadian diplomat was asked to leave India within the next five days. "The High Commissioner of Canada to India was summoned today and informed about the decision of the Government of India to expel a senior Canadian diplomat based in India," the MEA stated. "The concerned diplomat has been asked to leave India within the next five days. The decision reflects the Government of India's growing concern at the interference of Canadian diplomats in our internal matters and their involvement in anti-India activities," it added. ASEAN-India Summit: PM Modi highlights need to amplify voice of Global South during Jakarta visit

New Delhi, The first IIT campus outside India will come up in Tanzania's Zanzibar, the <keyword id="6374106" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs" source="Orion">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> (MEA) said on Thursday. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for setting up of a campus of <keyword id="6356755" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-madras" source="Orion">IIT Madras</keyword> in Zanzibar, which is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. The agreement was inked on Wednesday in presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Zanzibar's President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. Jaishakar is on a visit to Tanzania. "The first IIT campus to be set up outside India will be in Zanzibar," the MEA said. It said an MoU was signed between the India's education ministry, IIT Madras and Zanzibar's ministry of education and vocational training. "This campus is reflective of the longstanding friendship between India and Tanzania and a reminder of the focus India places on building people to people ties across Africa and the Global South," the MEA said. It said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommends that "high performing Indian universities will be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries". "Recognising the strategic partnership between Tanzania and India, the relationship of educational partnership has been formalised by signing the document which provides the framework for the parties to detail out the setting up of the proposed campus of IIT Madras in <keyword id="17916122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zanzibar-tanzania" source="Orion">Zanzibar-Tanzania</keyword>, with plans to launch programmes in October 2023," the MEA said.

<keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s external debt of $620.7 billion, as at end of March 2022, is sustainable and is being managed in a prudent manner, the <keyword id="144110" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="department-of-economic-affairs" source="Orion">Department of Economic Affairs</keyword>, under the Union Finance Ministry, said. In a recent report, the Department of Economic Affairs said the country's external debt continues to be sustainable and prudently managed. "As at end-March 2022, it stood at $620.7 billion, growing by 8.2 per cent over the level a year ago. External debt as a ratio to GDP (gross domestic product) was 19.9 per cent, while reserves to external debt ratio was 97.8 per cent," the report said. The sovereign debt at $130.7 billion rose higher by 17.1 per cent over its level a year ago, mainly because of additional allocation of special drawing rights (SDR) by the IMF during 2021-22. The non-sovereign debt, on the other hand, grew 6.1 per cent to $490 billion over the level as at end-March 2021. Experts had said that the external debt of $620.7 billion need not be a concern as $490 billion is non-government and the share of government is only $130.8 billion. Of the non-government debt, the share of non-financial corporations was about $250.2 billion. Further, the total debt of $620.7 billion as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) was 19.9 per cent and the debt service ratio was 5.2 per cent. Experts also said India cannot be compared with Sri Lanka that is in a severe economic crisis. The share of the central government in short term debt - maturing in a year's time- is only $7.7 billion out of the total $267 billion, experts had said. Commercial borrowings, <keyword id="11904949" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nri" source="Orion">NRI</keyword> deposits, and short-term trade credit are the three biggest constituents of the non-sovereign debt, accounting for as much as 95.2 per cent. While NRI deposits declined by two per cent to $139 billion, commercial borrowings at $209.71 billion and short-term trade credit at $117.4 billion rose by 5.7 per cent and 20.5 per cent, respectively. According to the report, the debt vulnerability indicators continued to be benign. The debt service ratio fell significantly to 5.2 per cent during 2021-22 from 8.2 per cent during the previous year, reflecting buoyant current receipts and moderating external debt service payments. The debt service payment obligations arising out of the stock of external debt as at end of March 2022 are projected to trend downwards over the coming years. From a cross-country perspective, India's external debt is modest. In terms of various debt vulnerability indicators, India's sustainability was better than the Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) as a group and vis-a-vis many of them individually. According to the report, the US dollar continues to be the leading currency of denomination accounting for 53.2 per cent of the total as at end March 2022. Deposits in Non Resident (External) <keyword id="8182719" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rupee-accounts" source="Orion">Rupee Accounts</keyword> (NR(E)RA), NRO accounts and <keyword id="725142" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fpi" source="Orion">FPI</keyword> investments in Gsec and corporate bonds are among the components of India's external debt, denominated in Indian rupees. Indian rupee is the second leading currency of denomination with a lower share of 31.2 per cent of the total as at end-March 2022 than 33.3 per cent a year ago, reflecting erosion of outstanding FPI investments in G-Sec and corporate bonds ($50.1 billion from $51.4 billion as at end-March 2021) and balances under NRE accounts ($100.8 billion from $ 102.6 billion). Following the US dollar and the Indian rupee are the SDRs (6.6 per cent), the Japanese <keyword id="76265" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="yen" source="Orion">Yen</keyword> (5.4 per cent) and Euro (2.9 per cent). The remark was made by an MEA spokesperson in connection with the ongoing investigation related to Vivo and other Chinese firms. "Companies that operate here need to follow the law of the land. Our legal authorities are taking steps as per law of the land. I don't see the case to make comments as such on it," MEA spokesperson <keyword id="10953867" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="arindam-bagchi" source="Orion">Arindam Bagchi</keyword> in a media briefing. According to the ED, all due procedures as per law were followed during the said operations at each premises but employees of Vivo India, including some Chinese nationals did not cooperate with the search proceedings and had tried to abscond, remove and hide digital devices which were retrieved by the search teams. <ul><li>India’s <keyword id="6374106" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> (MEA) has issued a statement saying that China’s claims over the <keyword id="9241086" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Galwan-Valley">Galwan Valley</keyword> are ‘exaggerated and untenable’.</li><li>According to MEA, the Chinese troops departed from the understandings agreed to on June 5 and sought to erect structures just across the LAC, which led to the violent clash between both sides.</li><li>The Ministry claims that China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi firmly rejected the unfounded allegations made by the Chinese side during the telephonic conversation with India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on June 17.</li></ul>India’s Foreign Ministry asserts that the claims made by China that the Galwan Valley is on their side of border are ‘exaggerated and untenable’. The statement comes after China’s Foreign Ministery Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said, “The Galwan valley is located on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC)... For many years, the Chinese border troops have been patrolling and on duty in this region.” Today, June 20, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) hit back saying, "The position with regard to the Galwan Valley area has been historically clear. Attempts by the Chinese side to now advance exaggerated and untenable claims with regard to Line of Actual Control (LAC) there are not acceptable.” It explained that Indian troops in the region are fully familiar with the alignment of the LAC in all sectors — including the Galwan Valley. “In fact, they have been patrolling this area for a long time without any incident,” said the MEA. The ministry added that since early May 2020, the Chinese troops have been hindering the movement of India’s traditional patrolling patterns, which is what results in the faceoff between both sides. India is not changing the status quo along the border The MEA also answered China’s claims of Indian infrastructure being built on the Chinese side of the border asserting that all infrastructure built by the Indian side is on its own side. It asserts that it was not India unilaterally changing the status quo. “On the contrary, we were maintaining it,” said the MEA. According to the ministry, it was only when the Chinese side attempted to cross the LAC into other areas of the western sector of the border areas in mid-May that the first faceoff occurred. It clarified that both sides had agreed to de-escalate the situation. “However, the Chinese side departed from these understandings in respect of the LAC in the Galwan Valley area and sought to erect structures just across the LAC. When this attempt was foiled, Chinese troops took violent actions on 15 June 2020 that directly resulted in casualties,” explained the MEA. According to the Ministry, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi e firmly rejected the unfounded allegations made by the Chinese side and the misrepresentation of the understandings reached between the Senior Commanders. He also underlined that it was for China to reassess its actions and take corrective steps despite comments made to the contrary by Lijao. “The two sides are in regular touch and early meetings of military and diplomatic mechanisms are currently being discussed,” concluded the MEA.
