<ul><li>The Ministry of External Affairs every year organises internship opportunities of six months in two terms.</li><li>Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the online application for Term 2 has not opened yet, and the ministry will soon announce the dates.</li><li>The ministry will select 30 interns with a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 per month.</li></ul>The Ministry of External Affairs (<keyword id="6358274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MEA" source="Orion">MEA</keyword>) every year organises an internship opportunity for budding scholars to familiarise themselves with the process of formulation of foreign policy and its implementation by the Government of India. The duration of the internship is six months offered in two terms -- Term 1 (January to June) and Term 2 (July to December). Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the online application for Term 2 has not opened yet, and the ministry will soon announce the dates. Interested candidates can keep a check on their <a href="https://www.internship.mea.gov.in/">official website</a>. The ministry will select 30 interns and they shall report to, work under close supervision of the concerned head of division (HOD). They may be required to conduct research, write reports, analyse evolving developments, or carry out any other task entrusted to them by the HOD. All the interns will get a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 per month. Candidates will have to report to the Delhi office during the course of their internship. The ministry will bear the travel cost for outstation candidates who will have to fly to Delhi from their home state. Eligibility criteria for the internship — 1. All the candidates should be an Indian citizen. 2. The maximum age limit for the candidates is 25 years as on December 31, of the year of the internship. 3. Candidates should have a minimum educational qualification of a graduate degree from a recognised university. 4. Candidates belonging to these states are only eligible for the opportunity — Term 1 — Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Delhi. Term 2 — Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry. 5. 30%-50% seats are reserved for women candidates. Internship at Ministry of External Affairs: Checkout details, stipend and how to apply

<ul><li>MEA has launched a three-month internship programme starting from April till June 2022.</li><li>The Ministry will be hiring only 75 candidates under this programme in New Delhi.</li><li>The last date to apply for the internship programme is February 15.</li></ul>India’s <keyword id="6374106" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs" source="Orion">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> (MEA) has launched an internship programme as part of the <keyword id="10912165" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="azadi-ka-amrit-mahotsav" source="Orion">Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav</keyword> celebrations to commemorate 75 years of independence. The duration of the internship is three months starting from April till June 2022. The Ministry will be hiring only 75 candidates under this programme in New Delhi. The last date to apply for the internship programme is February 15. “The MEA Internship Policy 2022 aims to take foreign policy closer to the people; bring in more focus on MEA; provide value to the interns; ensure better gender inclusivity and increase diversity in terms of qualifications, domicile and socio-economic status amongst the cohort of interns engaged by the ministry,” said the ministry in its official advertisement. Selected candidates will be given a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 to defray basic costs. Air fare to and fro from the domicile state to Delhi will be provided by the ministry. Eligibility criteria — <ol><li>Candidates should hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university/institution at the time of applying. </li><li>The internship programme will also be open to students who are presently in the final year of their graduation, where an internship is a mandatory part of their final year curriculum. </li><li>Age of the candidates should not exceed 25 years as on 31 December of the year of internship. </li></ol>Selection procedure — The selection process will consist of two stages — preliminary screening and personal interview. A minimum of 30% of the 75 internships may be filled by women candidates. Weightage will be based on academic performance assessed by percentage of marks obtained in +2 and graduation exams. Candidates will have to apply online only state-wise merit lists will be prepared – separately for male and female candidates – by elimination based on academic performance in +2 and graduation exams. Candidates selected in the merit lists, which will be announced on February 18, will be called for a personal interview between February 22-24, which will be conducted via video conferencing by the judge panel. At the end of the internship, each intern shall submit a detailed report on the work carried out and, if required, make a presentation on it. Ministry of External Affairs is offering internships to graduates with a monthly stipend of ₹10,000

 The <keyword id="1062277" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Scholarship-Programme-for-Diaspora-Children">Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children</keyword> (SPDC) was rolled out by the Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) for the Indian-origin students for admissions to premier Indian institutions including National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). According to the programme, the scholarship is extended to students from up to 66 countries — including the US and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The scheme will benefit students with nearly 75% financial assistance on the total cost of the academic course — which accounts for <a href="https://www.mea.gov.in/spdc.htm">$4000 (₹277,002) worth of scholarship</a> every year. The applicants can enroll for the scholarship scheme via the e-governance mechanism spdcindia.gov.in. This includes courses in engineering, technology, management, journalism, animal husbandry, liberal arts, and commerce among others. Introduced in 2006-07, the programme is aimed at making higher education in Indian Universities available to the children of overseas Indians and Non- resident Indian students (NRIs). Since its inception, the Indian government has awarded over 800 scholarships to students, according to Ministry of External Affairs. Scholarships for Indian students in 66 countries to pursue higher education

<ul><li>Thousands of cases have been reported wherein a man severed ties with his wife a few days after their wedding and left her behind in India without any information whatsoever.</li><li>NGOs believe that in <keyword id="6354953" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="punjab">Punjab</keyword> and <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> alone, around 25000 women have been abandoned by their spouses. </li><li>The <keyword id="6374106" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> received 3,328 distress calls from <keyword id="6357804" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NRI">NRI</keyword> women between 1 January 2015 and 30 November 2017 — an average of more than three calls a day or one every eight hours.</li></ul> It is a tale as old as time, or at least the past few decades anyway, Indian parents can’t help but leap at the prospect of getting their daughters (and sometimes sons) married to Non-resident Indians (NRI) in the hopes of securing a brighter future for them abroad. However, the sheer number of such marriages going horribly wrong is a matter to reckon with. Apart from numerous cases being reported where men take their blushing brides primarily to the US only to serve them as glorified maids and subjecting them to both mental and physical abuse, thousands of cases have been reported wherein a man severed ties with his wife a few days after their wedding and left her behind in India without any information whatsoever. It is to <a href="http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2018/may/29/abandoned-wives-summons-to-nri-men-on-mea-site-1820681.html">address</a> the concerns of these abandoned wives that the <keyword id="653872" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-law-and-justice">Ministry of Law and Justice</keyword> is proposing sending out summons to these men via the website of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as opposed to the dated method of publishing notices in newspapers. And once a summon is uploaded on the website, it would be treated as served to the husband. The reason for serving these notices via a website or newspaper is primarily because the actual addresses of spouses abroad are unknown to the aggrieved party. Once the notices are served, only then can the court proceedings commence. While there is no official data, various NGOs believe that in Punjab and Gujarat alone, around 25000 women have been abandoned by their spouses. And according to a report on the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/nri/other-news/one-nri-wife-calls-home-for-help-every-8-hours/articleshow/62782501.cms">Times of India</a> in February 2018, the Ministry of External Affairs received 3,328 distress calls from NRI women between 1 January 2015 and 30 November 2017 — an average of more than three calls a day or one every eight hours. And the primary causes of the distress were abandonment, harassment, dowry demands, physical abuse and passport seizure. The husbands often use lenient laws in the country they live in to get ex parte divorces and slither out of paying their wives maintenance. In a bid to counter these shocking numbers, the above-mentioned proposal to issue notices via the website will be discussed at a meeting that will be attended by officials from <keyword id="4318185" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Women-and-Child-Development-Ministry">Union Women and Child Development Ministry</keyword> (WCD) and MEA next week. Other measure proposed by the WCD to the law ministry included impounding or cancellation of passport and attachment of their assets in India. Another recommendation is to make it mandatory to register NRI marriages within a week of the wedding.

Indian government is formulating a plan to help abandoned NRI wives get justice

<ul><li>The <keyword id="2174006" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhagwan-Mahaveer-Viklang-Sahayata-Samiti">Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti</keyword> (BMVSS), a Jaipur-based non-profit organisation, is providing artificial limbs to people wounded in the Syrian war. </li><li>The first phase of the programme, which was facilitated by <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>’s Ministry of External Affairs, will see 500 amputees be fitted with prosthetic limbs. </li><li>The BMVSS is responsible for scaling the famous invention, the <keyword id="134665" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaipur-Foot">Jaipur Foot</keyword>, and has provided it free of charge to 1.75 million people inside and outside India. </li><li>Last month, India’s Ministry of External Affairs, unveiled the “India for Humanity” programme, under which the Jaipur Foot will be distributed to people in other countries through Indian missions.</li></ul>At the end of October 2018, the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), a Jaipur-based non-profit organisation, said that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saint James, a Christian organisation in Syria, to provide artificial limbs to people wounded in the Syrian war, according to <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/world/jaipur-foot-camp-in-syria-for-people-injured-in-civil-war-5421333/">the Press Trust of India</a>. The agreement was facilitated by India’s Ministry of External Affairs in conjunction with Syria’s Foreign Ministry. The first phase of the programme will see 500 amputees be fitted with prosthetic limbs. The signing of the MoU comes a few weeks after India’s Ministry of External Affairs, led by foreign minister <keyword id="6355111" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sushma-Swaraj">Sushma Swaraj</keyword>, unveiled the <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/news-ians/india-launches-global-jaipur-foot-distribution-initiative-118100900553_1.html">“India for Humanity”</a> programme. Under the initiative, the artificial limbs made by BMVSS will be distributed to people in other countries through Indian missions. Most people don’t know what the BMVSS is, but have likely heard of its world-famous invention: the Jaipur Foot. Founded in 1975, the charitable organisation has provided all kinds of artificial limbs to as many <a href="http://jaipurfoot.org/">1.75 million </a>people worldwide so far, according to the company’s website, all of which have been given free of charge. In fact, the Jaipur Foot was developed in 1968 at the SMS Medical College Hospital in the city of Jaipur, after which the BMVSS became responsible for scaling the invention for common good. The organisation mainly relies on donations, grants and government support. To date, the Jaipur Foot is <a href="http://jaipurfoot.org/images/Brochure%202017-18.pdf">said </a>to be most widely used prosthetic limb in the world. The Jaipur Foot exemplifies the concept of “frugal innovation” that India is known for, which is why it seems obvious that the Indian government would make the Jaipur Foot an important part of its regional outreach strategy. Prior to the official launch of “India for Humanity”, a number of camps had been organised by BMVSS and India’s foreign ministry in neighbouring countries. In <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/india-s-jaipur-foot-for-1-000-disabled-people-in-myanmar-vietnam-118071801510_1.html">July 2018</a>, 1000 amputees in Myanmar and Vietnam were given prosthetic limbs. In <a href="https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/2017/10/05/jaipur-foot-fit-700-bangladeshis-prosthetic-limbs/">September 2017</a>, a 15-day camp was organised in Bangladesh wherein 300 disabled people were given artificial limbs while 700 additional amputees registered for new ones. In <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/healthcare/biotech/healthcare/jaipur-foot-to-provide-artificial-limbs-to-1000-afghans/articleshow/35344550.cms">mid-2014</a>, a month-long camp was held in the Afghani capital of Kabul, also for 1000 beneficiaries. The programme may be a way for the Indian government to capitalise on the cultural cachet of this world-famous technology and build goodwill. But it will also help the BMVSS expand its global operations, possibly helping hundreds of thousands more disabled people in the process.

It said that out of the total sale proceeds of Rs 1,25,185 crore, <keyword id="2829414" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vivo-india" source="Orion">Vivo India</keyword> remitted Rs 62,476 crore -- almost 50 per cent of the turnover out of India, mainly to China. According to the ED, all due procedures as per law were followed during the said operations at each premises but employees of Vivo India, including some Chinese nationals did not cooperate with the search proceedings and had tried to abscond, remove and hide digital devices which were retrieved by the search teams.
