Radisys Corporation, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms, signed a definitive agreement with US-based <keyword id="2512697" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airspan" source="Orion">Airspan</keyword> Networks Holdings for acquisition of "Mimosa Networks for USD 60 million on a debt free, cash free basis," the companies said in a statement. <br /><br /> While Jio Platforms is the owner of India's biggest telecom firm, <keyword id="1543410" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-jio-infocomm" source="Orion">Reliance Jio Infocomm</keyword>, Mimosa has a portfolio of point-to-multi-point products based on WiFi-5 and the newer WiFI 6E technologies as well as related accessories. <br /><br /> "These solutions have use cases in the backhaul requirements for 5G and FTTX/ FWA rollouts," the statement said. "Jio has been a major customer of Mimosa." <br /><br /> The deal comes at a time when countries across the world are looking to move away from Chinese technology. <br /><br /> Airspan acquired Mimosa in 2018 to target cost-effective fixed wireless access network connections. <br /><br /> Mimosa's product development, manufacturing, and sales teams of 56 employees will continue with Mimosa following the acquisition by Radisys. <br /><br /> Speaking about the transaction, <keyword id="2080408" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mathew-oommen" source="Orion">Mathew Oommen</keyword>, President of Jio, said, "Over the years, our collaboration with Airspan has resulted in groundbreaking architectures for high-speed connectivity for both the end user and for backhaul applications." <br /><br /> "Acquisition of Mimosa will further accelerate Jio's innovation and leadership in the production of telecom network products that deliver value to consumers and enterprises across the globe with cost-effective, rapidly deployable fixed and mobile broadband," he said. <br /><br /> Eric Stonestrom, Chairman and CEO of Airspan, said the transaction "not only puts a very capable product team with one of the world's most innovative and transformative technology and telecommunications companies, but it also strengthens Airspan's balance sheet enabling the company to pursue 4G and 5G private and MNO networks which have been our main focus." <br /><br /> Reliance Jio Infocomm USA Inc, a wholly owned step-down subsidiary of Jio, is a shareholder of Airspan and maintains a seat on its Board of Directors. <br /><br /> PJT Partners acted as financial advisor to Airspan. She had stopped by the equity trading desk, a team that once took up two floors of the company's headquarters on New York City's storied Park Avenue.</p><p>When she visited, "there was just a tiny room with 10 people," Karpis told Business Insider. "Electronic trading had eliminated a lot of those jobs."</p><p>Slowly, other signs came into focus. JPMorgan was increasingly outsourcing work, and was in the process of electronifying fixed-income trading. Karpis realized it was possible that she could soon be out of a job.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Designer Arianne Elmy</span></p><p class="caption">Paulina Karpis.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Fast-forward four years: Karpis is the founder of <a href="https://brunchwork.com/">brunchwork</a>, a weekend event series where ambitious professionals can schmooze over mimosas and acai bowls, then hear from speakers at high-profile organizations like Facebook and IBM. The overarching goal is to support people as they retool their careers and prepare for the workplace of the future.</p><p>brunchwork currently has several hundred members, according to Karpis, plus the attendees who come to events on a less regular basis. (Karpis said brunchwork gets roughly 1,000 RSVPs a month.) An unlimited membership is $145 per month in New York City and San Francisco; brunchwork also has event series in Los Angeles, and is in the process of launching in Boston, Chicago, Washington, DC, Austin, and Miami.</p><p>The story of brunchwork is a uniquely millennial one. You've got fears around automation, an urge to disrupt the status quo through entrepreneurship, and avocado-centric meals. This summer I returned on assignment for Business Insider. </p><p>At 11:30 a.m., the fourth floor of General Assembly - an adult-education school in Manhattan that provides training in areas like data science and web development - was filled with about 70 young-ish professionals scooping acai out of individual Tupperware containers.</p><p>It was an unusually humid day in early June and the air conditioner in the building appeared to be malfunctioning. I looked around for plain orange juice (it was a workday for me, after all); not finding any, I grabbed a mimosa instead. Small clusters of brunch-ers had begun to gather around the room. Because I need more than one cocktail to barge uninvited into a conversation, I plopped down next to a young man sitting alone. He'd recently graduated from college, he told me, and was looking for full-time work.</p><p>As the college grad and I chatted, other people came over and took the empty chairs at our table, including a woman launching a career-coaching business and an MBA working at a healthcare startup. The room had fairly awful acoustics, and I found myself shouting into people's ears: "I WRITE ABOUT CAREERS! YOUR JOB SOUNDS COOL!" It felt like a classier version of an orientation event during the first week of college.</p><p>A few weeks later, I called some brunchwork attendees to get their perspectives on the program's utility. A common theme I heard was that the events had indirectly benefited their careers. </p><p>Amir Sadhougi, a senior software development engineer at Amazon, said that seeing different speakers week after week gave him the confidence to present at an industry conference, something he'd never done before. Nishat Rustagi,  founder of the digital manufacturing company <a href="https://makerstage.com/">Make</a>, said listening to successful people talk candidly about their failures inspired him to move ahead with his business idea and change the status quo.</p><p>Preston Chin is still learning how brunchwork may have changed his career trajectory. I met Chin, 26 years old and an incoming student at MIT's Sloan School of Management, at the brunchwork event in June.</p><p>Every brunch features an audience challenge: Attendees are split into smaller teams and given a prompt by the guest speakers to work on together. At this event, the speakers were author Nir Eyal and investor Susan Lyne. The challenge was to design an app that somehow boosted the user's ability to concentrate without getting distracted.</p><p>Chin decided to share with his team an idea he'd been kicking around for a while: an app to make language learning easier through media. He used the team as a "sounding board" to see if he "might be on the right track."</p><p>His teammates' reactions were uniformly positive. (Full disclosure: I was one of Chin's teammates, though at the time I thought Chin had come up with his idea on the spot.) Ng attended his first brunchwork event in February 2017. A 29-year-old marketing expert, Ng had come to brunchwork because "being a good marketer is about having a wide understanding of different industries."</p><p>Half a year later, Ng lost his job at the digital media startup Mic when it <a href="https://www.vox.com/2018/11/29/18117787/mic-layoffs-staff-bustle-facebook">laid off most of its staff</a>. He ultimately landed a job in employer branding at Bloomberg, at least partly because he told the company that brunchwork gave him access to powerful leaders in a range of fields, which would help him do better work.</p><h2>Learning from the guest speakers is only part of brunchwork's value proposition</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy of brunchwork</span></p><p class="caption">brunchwork members solve the audience challenge.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The threat of automation isn't a black-and-white issue: Either you'll lose your job to a robot or you won't. For one thing, no one can predict with certainty how automation will affect specific industries. For another, some labor-market experts are more optimistic than others.</p><p>A <a href="https://www.manpowergroup.com/workforce-insights/world-of-work/skills-revolution-series">2019 report</a> from Manpower Group, for example, indicates that automation will <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/more-jobs-created-globally-automation-manpower-report-2019-2">create more jobs</a> than it destroys. In particular, engineering and management roles may benefit from automation, according to the report, because they require "human" skills such as negotiation, leadership, and adaptability.</p><p><em><strong>Read more</strong>: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/technology-soft-skills-job-market-2019-2">The CEO of a recruiting giant says a key factor will determine your chances of getting a job in the next decade</a></em></p><p>Meanwhile, organizations like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/training-employees-on-new-skills-and-technology-what-accenture-learned-2019-1">Accenture</a> are talking about <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retraining-workers-could-be-a-new-frontier-for-the-future-of-work-2019-4">retraining</a> and "upskilling" their employees, so they're better positioned to work alongside those new technologies.</p><p>Karpis said brunchwork is one way of upskilling yourself (she calls it "co-learning"), even if your employer doesn't provide that kind of training. You not only learn from the knowledge and experience of the speakers, you also work on developing your interpersonal skills by chatting with the other members.</p><p>My interest in brunchwork admittedly stemmed more from the caliber of the guest speakers than from the interpersonal-skills development piece. I'm an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/networking-career-success-2019-1">unabashed hater</a> when it comes to professional networking. And while I could understand paying $145 a month to learn from the head of Facebook AI or a prominent venture capitalist, I was less convinced that meeting other people navigating career transitions was worth the price tag.</p><p>But I was surprised by how much I enjoyed talking to other brunch-ers. And I could almost, maybe, somehow see myself coming back - not as a reporter, but just to hear people talk about their career paths and what they were working on next.</p><p>Rustagi gave me a succinct pitch for brunchwork: You actually learn something and have the opportunity to connect with execs. That isn't true of all the networking events he's been to in San Francisco, which can be more crowded and less structured. This millennial networking startup is saving the workforce from automation, one mimosa at a time

Amid <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/graduate-student-loan-debt-nationwide-crisis-2019-8">an ongoing national conversation</a> about the actual worth of these pricey programs, though, many are turning to alternatives that require less commitment - and that incur less debt.</p><p>Paulina Karpis is one such grad-school skeptic. She considered an MBA a few years ago while working her way up as a broker relationships manager at JPMorgan. However, she quickly saw a mismatch between the steep price tag and the value it offered, as well as the two years it would have taken to complete.</p><p>"An MBA would have slowed me down," Karpis told Business Insider, adding that it would've taken her out of the workforce for two years. "Based on how quickly the world is changing, by the time you come back, the role you left might not even exist."</p><p>Karpis now runs brunchwork, a New York-based startup that has hosted popular weekend networking events for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennials-networking-executive-speakers-brunchwork-2019-7">the past four years</a>. Business-savvy millennials meet with luminaries from across industries to learn from their experiences (<a href="https://brunchwork.com/">while eating a farm-to-table lunch and sipping mimosas</a>, as the name implies). The company is now looking to expand its services by opening a weekend campus where members can get MBA-level opportunities at a fraction of the cost.</p><p>Starting October 19, brunchwork will offer the campus program at workplace-provider Industrious in Manhattan's Bryant Park. Karpis says members can expect Saturday and Sunday business classes, talks by business leaders like Peloton cofounder Graham Stanton, and social experiences like wine tastings and private music shows.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>brunchwork</span></p><p class="caption">Industrious campus</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Karpis described it as taking the "core value" of the MBA and providing it for brunchwork's target audience in a way that fits neatly into their lives.</p><p>Among those values are networking and the development of managerial skills. Jeb Ory, a serial entrepreneur who has raised more than $6 million in investment capital, previously<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/should-i-go-business-school-deep-dive-into-pros-cons-2019-8"> told Business Insider</a> that "learning from others is how most successful people build their careers. It feels like everyone in business school is looking to trade careers, so you meet people who are coming from the areas you are interested in going into."</p><h2>brunchwork's cofounder on learning opportunities outside of an MBA</h2><p>But Karpis argues that outside the networking opportunities, the benefits of MBAs are few.</p><p>According to Karpis, MBA programs are backward-looking by nature. Students dissect company decisions retrospectively, and the case studies themselves may not be relevant after the decision was made.</p><p>She also points out that a lot of the business school curriculum, including courses in marketing, accounting, and finance, can easily be learned online. Intangible skills like communication and building influence in business, which Karpis calls "people-people skills," can't be learned in a classroom setting, she added. People need to practice, be in the same space and actually do the activity to learn the skill.</p><p>Currently, brunchwork reaches about 10,000 people a year across the nation, with about 10 events happening a month. Karpis said the average member is a millennial, and that more than half of them are professionals who want to be seen as leaders or managers within the top firms where they work.</p><p>Karpis expects their audience to grow three or four times over the next year with the launch of the campus, which is open to both brunchwork and Industrious. </p><p>"I personally view this first launch as a model that we can refine and expand across the country," Karpis said. A millennial networking startup is taking MBAs head on - and throwing in brunch for good measure

Maha proposes ₹547,450 crore budget with huge fiscal, revenue deficits

He remembers the murky East River water below him, the stench of mold, and a sinking feeling that soon turned literal.</p><p>"Every once in a while, you could feel the boat dropping into the muck," Williams, 62, said. "It was a stark reminder that this place wasn't meant for human confinement."</p><p>Docked in the shallows off an industrial edge of the South Bronx, the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center is a five-story jail barge that stretches the length of two football fields, resembling a container ship stacked with cargo.</p><div type="image" title="Photo of cars driving up to the Vernon C. Three decades later, the 800-bed lockup – the last operating prison ship in the United States — is finally closing down.</p><p>The ship will be fully vacated by the end of this week, officials said, as part of a broader plan to replace the city's long-troubled correctional system with a network of smaller jails. For now, most of the roughly 500 people incarcerated on the ship will be transferred to <a href="https://www.insider.com/hunger-strike-inmate-rikers-island-claim-not-meet-standards-human-2022-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rikers Island</a>, according to the Department of Correction, though the jails there are eventually supposed to <a href="https://www.insider.com/first-rikers-jail-to-close-this-summer-2018-1">close down</a>, too.</p><p>Detainees and advocates have long regarded the boat as a grim vestige of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/americas-mass-incarceration-prison-problem-cost-suck-opinion-2022-4">mass incarceration</a>, an enduring symbol of the city's failures to reform dangerous jails that exist on the periphery of New York, largely out of sight of most residents and tourists.</p><div type="image" title="A photo of the sign outside the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center" height="3840" width="5119" msid="104866907" hostid="261" sizebytes="1649754"></div><p>In recent years, the unusual nautical jail has drawn attention primarily for its failures: Last September, a 44-year-old man, Gregory Acevedo, jumped from the top of the ship to his death; The year before that, Stephan Khadu, 24, died after contracting a form of treatable meningitis while in custody.</p><p>Darren Mack, co-director of the advocacy group Freedom Agenda, described the boat as a "modern-day slave ship" used by the department to warehouse detainees, mostly <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/study-finds-huge-racial-disparity-in-americas-prisons-2016-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Black and Latino</a> men, with minimal oversight. While noting the closure was long overdue, he added, "Shifting people to the same <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-harrowing-scenes-inside-rikers-island-jail-new-york-2022-10">hellish conditions on Rikers</a> is not the answer."</p><p>The last of an armada of floating jails used by New York City in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Vernon C. Bain sits across the river from Rikers Island, between a wastewater treatment plant and a wholesale fish market.</p><div type="image" title="A photo of the Vernon C. The inmates are afforded a daily hour of recreation. Otherwise, their only natural light beams through the ship's tiny portholes.</p><p>Photos also show the ship's fading blue and white exterior — a far cry from the freshly-painted surfaces <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnluVzLMRBQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">visible</a> in the 1993 film "Carlito's Way" — is known to leak in the rain, occasionally short-circuiting the electrical system.</p><p>Those who've spent time onboard say the boat rocks in the river's current. Inside, rust cracks in the walls, and detainees say they are packed into dormitories that grow suffocatingly hot in the summer, with cots that sit just a few inches from each other.</p><p>"If you faced the person in the bed next to you, your knees would touch," said Williams, who was incarcerated there for a few months and has since been released. "If they snored, you could smell their breath."</p><div type="image" title="A photo of Vernon C. Bain floating on the East River in New York." height="499" width="999" msid="104866909" hostid="261" sizebytes="35510"></div><p>The use of maritime jails in the United States has long been controversial, dating back to the earliest days of the Revolutionary War, when thousands of Americans died aboard British ships parked in the New York Harbor.</p><p>Since then, the concept has been put to use sparingly — during the gold rush in California, most notably — often drawing allegations of cruelty and neglect, according to a recent <a href="https://sciendo.com/de/article/10.2478/bjals-2021-0002" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a>.</p><p>In the 1960s, local officials sunk a proposal by New York's correction commissioner to house inmates on repurposed ships, saying the boats would give visitors the wrong image of the city. That sentiment began to change in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as drug arrests during the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-of-los-angeles-police-officers-during-1980s-crack-epidemic-2015-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crack epidemic</a> brought the population of <a href="https://www.insider.com/rikers-island-correction-officers-let-gang-leader-take-control-report-2022-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rikers Island</a> to historic highs.</p><div type="image" title="The entrance to Vernon C. Bain arrived in the South Bronx, the city had already deployed four other floating jails — including two converted city ferries and a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1989/05/30/nyregion/for-inmates-the-living-is-easier-on-love-boat.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">former trooper ship</a> with the dissonant nickname, the "Love Boat" — as low-cost, temporary facilities.</p><p>Then-Mayor Edward Koch, an early champion of the idea, assured reporters that seasick inmates would be given <a href="https://www.insider.com/what-to-take-motion-sickness-medicine-while-flying-plane-2023-7?_gl=1*1gb1cwl*_ga*MTE2MzA4NDY1LjE2NjQzODM0NjQ.*_ga_E21CV80ZCZ*MTY5ODc3MTg2Ni4xMzA4LjEuMTY5ODc3MzU2My41NC4wLjA.">Dramamine</a> and dismissed questions about the boats' viability by calling it "better accommodations" than Rikers Island.</p><p>Decades later, Stephan Khadu may have reached a similar conclusion as he awaited trial at <a href="https://www.insider.com/15-rikers-island-inmates-died-2021-most-deaths-since-2016-2022-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rikers Island</a> for a gang conspiracy case. With the city's main jail complex gripped by both the <a href="https://www.insider.com/coronavirus-prison-jail-deahts-surpass-executions-20-years-since-2001-2020-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">coronavirus pandemic</a> and rising violence in May 2020, Khadu volunteered to transfer to the Vernon C. Bain, where he waited nearly two years for a trial that never came.</p><p>By the following summer, family members said, Khadu talked about the boat's stifling <a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/conditions-symptoms/heat-exhaustion-symptoms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">heat</a>, and the presence of mold and rodents that chewed through his food containers. He suffered a seizure in July 2021. Two months later, he had a second seizure. He died on the way to the hospital, a few days short of his 24th birthday.</p><div type="image" title="A photo of a button commemorating the life of Stephan Khadu" height="932" width="1865" msid="104866911" hostid="261" sizebytes="37188"></div><p>The cause of death was later revealed to be a complication of lymphocytic meningitis, a rodent-borne viral disease that, if properly treated, is not typically fatal.</p><p>His mom, Lezandre Khadu, blames the boat's "disgusting conditions."</p><p>"How can they expect me to believe they care about these people when they treat them like cargo?" she said. "No human should have to live in this place."</p><p>The New York State Attorney General investigated Stephan Khadu's death but said they could not confirm allegations of improper care. He had been awaiting trial for nearly 2 years</p><p>When the boat empties out, it won't be the first time. It also closed in the mid-1990s, as the population of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/eric-adams-says-hell-restore-solitary-confinement-on-rikers-island-2021-12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rikers Island</a> began to fall. But unlike the other shuttered floating jails, the Vernon C. Bain reopened — initially as a juvenile justice center under Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and later transitioning into a standard adult jail.</p><div type="image" title="A photo of the entrance to the Vernon C. It will remain, for now, within the custody of the Department of Correction.</p><p>"The reason for this move is to centralize operations on the island to more efficiently manage people in custody and deploy staff and resources," Johnson said in an email.</p><p>Once the move is complete, Lezandre Khadu is planning a trip to see the boat where her son spent the final year of his life. She intends to celebrate its long-delayed closure.</p><p>"I'm walking over that bridge with a bucket of mimosas and I'm going to have the biggest party ever," she said. "I want to see for myself that there will never be another soul on that boat."</p>

It began as a one-time ask from a close friend and has since grown to be my part-time side gig. The walls cost $450 to rent, and seating charts cost between $300 and $400. I've made $29,220 in revenue to date, and I donate 25% of my profits to local charities that support women and children in need.</p><h2><strong>I</strong>'d<strong> always wanted to open my own business and have multiple streams of income</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="a champagne wall" height="2268" width="3024" msid="95938683" hostid="261" sizebytes="431804"></div><p>I was constantly brainstorming new ideas where I could use my creativity and free time to make some extra cash, but nothing ever stuck — until my best friend asked me to be her maid of honor and I started planning her bridal shower. We decided on a brunch theme because we love mimosas. After hours of Pinterest surfing, we stumbled upon the concept of a champagne wall. Immediately, we knew we had to have it, but the fact that no vendors in the area had what we needed to bring the vision to life put a kink in our plans.</p><p>But I had a solution. My boyfriend, Dariusz, is a custom woodworker, so I showed him some inspirational pictures and put him to work. The champagne wall came out more beautiful than I ever imagined. It received so many compliments, so I trusted my gut and decided to turn it into a business. Dariusz has helped me with the business ever since, and our rentals have been a hit at numerous showers and weddings.</p><h2><strong>Social media has played a huge role in my business' success</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="a mirror decorated for a wedding" height="931" width="1241" msid="95938686" hostid="261" sizebytes="220566"></div><p>The first few months of the business were slow in terms of bookings but abundant in terms of community support. I did my research and took some time to determine the best way to launch, including creating a logo and a business account on both Instagram and Facebook. I focused my social-media efforts on networking to help get my name out there, and I leaned on friends, family, and my local community to share my posts and help spread the word.</p><p>When I was making <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CN5Bq3Ynsbc/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">my first post</a>, I said to my boyfriend: "I'm going to post it and if it doesn't get any attention, I'll just delete it and pretend like it never happened." I deleted and reposted it again for two hours straight. I was worried about what people might think or say, about failing, and about doing something completely out of my comfort zone. Somehow, I gathered up the courage to keep it up, and I'm so happy that I did.</p><p>After my social accounts were running, I printed out hundreds of business cards and left them at small businesses throughout the area. I did photoshoot collaborations with small businesses as well to cross-promote and establish a gallery of my offerings for Instagram and Facebook. I knew the first few bookings for my rentals business were going to be the hardest, so I chose to offer a heavy discount to the first five people to book. It took about a month to secure those bookings, but ever since, bookings have been coming in relatively consistently. Bookings vary from month to month, but I see the most rentals during summer and fall when wedding season is in full swing.</p><p>As I saw my followers increase within the first few months, I released various promos and a giveaway and created a lot of interactive stories to help boost engagement.</p><h2><strong>Work-life balance is extremely important to me</strong></h2><p>I'm a huge advocate of doing what's right for yourself, your family, and your mind. I do my best to use my time on my side gig wisely and give myself extra time to complete the creative tasks like seating charts and welcome signs.</p><p>I try to stick to a pretty strict schedule. On Sundays, I schedule my weekly post for Instagram, so I don't have to take time out of my week to post. Sometimes I post multiple times per week, but typically it's just once. I answer inquiries and manage bookings twice a week.</p><p>My weekends are typically filled with wall and mirror deliveries, but that just means extra quality time to spend with my boyfriend, as we handle all the deliveries together. The most bookings I currently accept for one day is three. Delivery is included within a 10-mile radius of Scranton. We do service other areas within an hour drive, but we charge an extra delivery fee.</p><p>The trick is to find a side gig that doesn't feel like work. I always look forward to seeing all the beautiful events and getting to know my clients.</p>

Trailing the Dallas Cowboys in the final seconds of the 2016 playoffs, Rodgers rolled out of the pocket to his left and hit Jared Cook along the sideline for a 35-yard completion. After Rodgers' throw to Cook to beat the Cowboys in 2017, he told ESPN's Dan Le Batard that he essentially told his receivers just to run around and get open, like a backyard football play.</p><p>"In high school, we had a lot of moments. Never like this one, though," Murray told King. "Last-second, I mean, this is the highest level. Hail Mary, last play of the game. Kyler Murray's incredible game-winning Hail Mary was based on an old Aaron Rodgers play, and he might have gotten his coach's directions wrong

<p><span id="docs-internal-guid-0c8fb085-ccc7-4d27-f250-bf098a24f89e"><span>His company, Mimosa, works with technology that could turn Wi-Fi from a way to save money on our smartphone data plans to an internet connectivity option on par with fiber and leagues above DSL. </span></span></p>
<p><span><span>Mimosa gets its name from the technology that's become its bread and butter: MIMO. As the company's cofounder, CPO, and "product visionary," Fink explained the impressive and important tech to Business Insider.</span></span></p>
<p><span><span>MIMO stands for multiple in, multiple out and has everything to do with radio waves and spectrums. Usually there is a limit on the amount of information a computer, radio, phone, or anything a device can send over the air over a single spectrum. The "multiple" in MIMO, though, allows for more than one stream to transmit over a single spectrum. </span></span></p>
<p><span><span>Imagine sipping on a drink through a straw. To sip on a second drink <span>at the same time,</span> you need another straw. MIMO lets a computer send and receive two data streams (drinks) through <em>one</em></span></span> spectrum (straw). And Mimosa has figured out how to double that again to four.</p>
<p>"This is a completely new frontier we have to innovate on," Fink said.</p>
<h2>The Future Is Now</h2>
<p>Fink explains that almost 50% of global internet traffic comes over Wi-Fi. Cellular networks support less than 3% of the world's traffic. But to Fink, the future of Wi-Fi should be going after that other 50%. With MIMO, Wi-Fi could replace cable and fiber, he says. When medium-size, suburban ISPs realize they can invest in relatively cheap wireless tech to bring high-speed internet to customers instead of cable or fiber, a movement will start and sweep through America's cities.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>"I absolutely believe as this awareness grows you'll see a different breed of ISPs," Fink said. </span></p>
<p dir="ltr">That's all part of Mimosa's game plan. Earlier this month, the company unveiled products that will allow ISPs and consumers to eventually hook up Wi-Fi internet service, bypassing cable and fiber entirely. The tech is expected to be available for in-home use this fall. </p>

<p dir="ltr">Wi-Fi is getting a push from a completely different side of the market, too: developing countries. In many part of the world, internet is seen as a necessity, but creating the infrastructure to make it accessible is posing challenges.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Fink cites nations like Brazil and Nigeria as future hubs for Wi-Fi trailblazing. These nations are home to driven entrepreneurs who see the need for internet for both their communities and their own endeavors. In these environments, Wi-Fi is almost the only option for infrastructure.</span></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>"People are not putting more copper in the ground. In </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">developing countries it gets stolen before it gets lit up," Fink said. </span></p>

<p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">He said the copper necessary for building a traditional wire network is too valuable as a raw material to stay buried underground. </span></p>
<p>It's unlikely for any community to ever go back to that model, he said. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"In the </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">1920s and 1930s what we did in America putting copper everywhere, that was like God's work." </span></p>
<p dir="ltr">Still, without large, powerful cable companies to stop them, developing nations could actually build out Wi-Fi networks even faster. Fink said without the terrifying incumbents looming over the industry like we have in America, African and South American entrepreneurs might be more inclined to take risks.</p>
<h2 dir="ltr">Help From The Hill</h2>
<p dir="ltr">Another factor that could cause the all-wireless movement to speed up: some helpful legislation from congress. Earlier this spring, <a href="http://www.fiercewireless.com/tech/press-releases/mimosa-petitions-fcc-advocating-spectrum-sharing-strategy-10-ghz-band">Mimosa launched a petition</a> for the FCC to allow a certain chunk of the broadcast band to be shared for wireless ISPs to use, FierceWireless reports. </p>
<p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The range Mimosa wants is the 10Ghz to 10.5Ghz range. Right now that space is used for amateur radio operators and government applications, Fink said. But he still sees a possibility for congress to eventually grant shared use of the band, especially if Mimosa and similar companies can prove they won't cause interference with the activities operating in that spectrum.</span></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"The </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">public interest is we need more broadband," Fink said. "The g</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">overnment and the Obama administration have been very clear that we're moving into a spectrum-sharing world."</span></p>
