Ferrara.</em></li></ul><p>Chris Pratt's brother, whose work as a sheriff's deputy and a part-time artist has been promoted by the star, appears to be connected to an extremist militant group, according to a new report.</p><p>Daniel "Cully" Pratt is one of several deputies in the Solano County Sheriff's Office who have expressed support for the Three Percenters, <a href="https://openvallejo.org/2021/02/04/solano-deputies-vacaville-councilmember-promote-anti-government-militia/">Scott Morris reported for Open Vallejo</a>, a nonprofit news website in Vallejo, California.</p><p>Open Vallejo reported that Cully Pratt, who was a public-information officer before he was promoted to sergeant-sheriff last year, has a wood-carving side business and that some of this art included Three Percenters symbols.</p><p>In an Instagram post in 2016, he posed with a wood carving that had hooks for an AR-15 rifle, the words "WILL NOT COMPLY," and the Roman numeral III, <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounders/three-percenters">the Three Percenters logo</a>. He included the hashtags #3percenter, #pro2a, #libertyordeath, and #joinordie, among others.</p><p>According to Open Vallejo, he made the rifle rack for Sgt. Roy Stockton in the sheriff's office. The Instagram post has since been taken down. </p><p>Solano County Sheriff Thomas A. Ferrara told Insider in a statement that when he spoke with employees identified in the Open Vallejo report as appearing to support the Three Percenters, they said, "their intention was to support the 2nd amendment and the U.S. Constitution."</p><p>Ferrera said that while the Three Percenter symbol has been associted with rioters at the Capitol, these employees were not there and do not support extremist organizations. "Our office denounces any extremist organization," the statement said.</p><p>The statement continued, "It is deeply important to me as Sheriff and for our Office to collaborate with our community and listen to their concerns. We are continually evaluating our guidelines and practices. What has not and will not change is that I expect every member of this agency to treat every member of this community equally and with the utmost respect."</p><h2>The Three Percenters is part of the extremist anti-government movement</h2><p>The Three Percenters is one of many groups that make up the extremist anti-government movement, but it's "one of three core components," <a href="https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/ideology/antigovernment">according to the Southern Poverty Law Center</a>. Unlike the <keyword id="9860607" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="oath-keepers">Oath Keepers</keyword>, another militant group, the Three Percenters does not have an organizational structure. The name comes from a <a href="https://observer.com/2017/07/soldiers-militia-american-revolution/">myth</a> that only 3% of colonists fought the British in the Revolutionary War.</p><p>Three Percenters followers have been involved in criminal acts "ranging from weapons violations to terrorist plots and attacks," <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounders/three-percenters">according to the Anti-Defamation League</a>. One of the men <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-you-need-know-extremist-groups-tied-to-whitmer-conspiracy-2020-10">charged</a> with conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Here's what you need to know about these extremist groups.</a></em></p><p>The FBI has said that several people tied to the Three Percenters were arrested in connection with the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/18/us/politics/capitol-riot-militias.html">The New York Times reported in mid-January</a>.</p><h2><div type="image" title="three percenters .JPG" height="2848" width="3797" msid="80757377" hostid="261"></div></h2><h2>Chris Pratt's politics have been called into question</h2><p>Chris Pratt, known for his roles on the TV show "Parks and Recreation" and in Marvel Cinematic Universe films like "Guardians of the Galaxy," has previously promoted his brother's wood carvings on Instagram, Open Vallejo reported.</p><p>The actor has also worn clothing with controversial symbols associated with far-right groups.</p><p>In 2018, he wore a hat to a Solano County Sheriff's Office fundraiser that featured the circle of 13 stars on Betsy Ross' flag, <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/betsy-ross-flag-nike-colin-kaepernick-patriot-movement-ku-klux-klan-854612/">a symbol that far-right extremists have adopted</a>.</p><p>In 2019, he was photographed wearing a shirt with an American flag along with <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/the-shifting-symbolism-of-the-gadsden-flag">the Gadsden flag's</a> snake insignia and the words "Don't Tread on Me." <p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><ul><li><strong>Three Russian journalists reportedly shooting a documentary on a Russian mercenary group were killed on Tuesday in the Central African Republic.</strong></li><li><strong>The journalists' bodies were found&#xa0;about 14 miles from the city of Sibut, which is about 50 miles from the capital of Bangui.</strong></li></ul><p>Three Russian journalists shooting a documentary on the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary group, were reportedly killed on Tuesday in the Central African Republic, <a href="https://tvrain.ru/news/v_tsentralnoj_afrike_pogibli_zhurnalist_orhan_dzhemal_rezhisser_aleksandr_rastorguev_i_operator_kirill_radchenko-468756/?utm_source=twi&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=news&amp;utm_term=468756" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to TV Rain, a Russian news channel.&#xa0;</p><p>Director&#xa0;<span>Alexander Rastorguev, journalist Orhan Djemal and camerman Kirill Radchenko were killed after being detained at a roadblock,&#xa0;<a href="http://www.thesundaily.my/news/2018/07/31/three-russians-carrying-press-cards-killed-c-africa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Agence France Presse.&#xa0;</span></p><p><span>The journalists' bodies were found&#xa0;about 14 miles from the city of Sibut, which is about 50 miles from the capital of Bangui, AFP reported. They were apparently driving back to the capital from a town called&#xa0;Kaga Bandoro, which is north of Sibut.&#xa0;</span></p><p><span>The mayor of Sibut,&#xa0;Henri Depele, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/r-three-european-journalists-killed-in-central-africa-republic-ambush-2018-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Reuters that armed men "emerged from the bush" and ambushed the journalists.&#xa0;</span></p><p>The Central African Republic has been mired in violence for years, with thousands killed and about 500,000 displaced since about 2013.</p><p>The government currently controls only about 20% of the country, includeing Bangui, while the rest is in control of about 15 Christian and Muslim militias.&#xa0;</p><p>Russia has recently been trying to gain influence in the troubled country.</p><p>In December, Moscow donated thousands of small arms to Bangui to fight the militia groups, <a href="https://jamestown.org/program/how-russia-is-displacing-the-french-in-the-struggle-for-influence-in-the-central-african-republic/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Jamestown Foundation.&#xa0;</p><p>Moscow is also trying to gain influence in the milita-controlled areas as well, including the northeastern part of the country, where there are many lucrative mines, Andrew McGregor, director of&#xa0;<span>Aberfoyle International Security, previously told Business Insider.&#xa0;</span> &#xa0;</p><p>The Wagner Group&#xa0;has been <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-wagner-group-mercenaries-where-operate-2018-4#3-central-african-republic-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">operating in CAR since at least early January,</a>&#xa0;and McGregor said other&#xa0;Russsian mercenary organizations operate in the country as well.</p><div></div>    <div class="margin-top">        <h3>NOW WATCH: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-west-point-united-states-military-academy-army-cadets-reception-day-2018-7">INSIDE WEST POINT: What it's really like for new Army cadets on their first day</a></h3>        <div>                    </div>    </div></hr>
