"An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of J&amp;K, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are underway presently in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is under progress," tweeted the <keyword id="19900590" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iaf" source="keywords">IAF</keyword> Media Co-ordination Centre on X. The injured personnel were evacuated to Udhampur for treatment on IAF choppers, where one of them succumbed. Another soldier is reported to be in critical condition, as confirmed by security force officials. "In the ensuing gunfight with terrorists, the Air Warriors fought back by returning fire. In the process, five IAF personnel received bullet injuries, and were evacuated to the nearest military hospital for immediate medical attention. One Air Warrior succumbed to his injuries later. Further operations are on by the local security forces," said the IAF. The soldier who succumbed was undergoing treatment at the command hospital at Udhampur. The remaining three are stable as per the Security Force officials, reported ANI. Following the attack that occurred in the evening around Shah Sitar and Shashidhar areas in the Poonch sector. Security forces initiated a search and cordon operation, as stated by security forces' officials. In response to the attack, forces have increased patrolling and vehicle checks in the area. The convoy was en route to the Sanai Top in the Surankote area of the district. The terrorists are suspected to be belonging to the same group that ambushed Indian troops in the Bufliaz area nearby on December 21, as per the Times of India report. The December attack last year had killed four soldiers and injured three. Earlier, in November 2023, a prolonged gunfight between Indian Army and the terrorists responsible for frequent attack on civilians in the region has resulted in deaths of five army personnel, including two captains. The Poonch sector belongs to the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency which will vote for the Lok Sabha elections on May 25. Congress leaders Malikarjun Kharge and <keyword id="19895780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rahul-gandhi" source="keywords">Rahul Gandhi</keyword> extended condolences over the death of IAF personnel. Condemning the attack by terrorists, Rahul Gandhi in a post on X, wrote, "The cowardly terrorist attack on our Army convoy in Poonch of Jammu and Kashmir is extremely shameful and sad," Rahul Gandhi said. Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP <keyword id="21530697" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shesh-paul-vaid" source="keywords">Shesh Paul Vaid</keyword> slammed Pakistan after the attack, hinting that the neighbouring country will not tolerate seeing people of Jammu and Kashmir exercising their democratic right. "It is not surprising, because the election tempo was building up in this area," said Shesh Paul Vaid in a video message posted on his official social media platform, X. Retired Major General GD Bakshi told ANI, "From the last two-three years, we have seen that the Inter-Services Intelligence and Army of Pakistan is again reviving terrorism in the Rajouri-Poonch area. Three killed in Jammu and Kashmir amid militant attack

Four suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were killed and two policemen were injured in a gunbattle on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway after a truck carrying a group of freshly infiltrated militants was intercepted by security forces on the outskirts of Jammu city on Thursday, top police officials said. The terrorists had come to execute a "big plan" which has now been foiled, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Mukesh Singh, said. In Srinagar, IGP, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the four terrorists were on their way to the Kashmir valley to disturb the District Development Council (DDC) polls scheduled later this month, as Pakistan has been trying to cause trouble in the political process. Giving details of the encounter, IGP Singh told a press conference in Jammu that during checking a truck was stopped at Ban toll plaza in Nagrota area at 5 am but the driver fled leaving behind the vehicle. CRPF and police personnel moved to search the vehicle and came under fire of the terrorists hiding in the truck.They retaliated resulting in an encounter. Other forces also joined resulting in a fierce gunbattle in which terrorists fired grenades and arms, he said. In the three-hour-long gunbattle, four terrorists were killed and two policemen were injured, he said, adding the policemen were out of danger. A huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosive material was recovered including 11 AK rifles, 3 pistols, 29 grenades and 6 UBGL grenades, he said. As per weapon recovery and past instances, it appears that they belong to JeM, he added. Speaking on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar, IGP Kumar said, "For the last few days, Pakistan has increased attempts to infiltrate militants into this side and to disturb the elections for which the process is on. In this context, Jammu Police and security forces have done a good job by neutralising four Pakistanis (militants). Their (militants') aim was to come to Kashmir to disturb the election process". He said there were apprehensions about militants targeting the elections, but the security forces were fully prepared to deal with the situation. "Whether there is an election or August 15 or January 26 or even a VIP visit, apprehensions are always there, but we are fully prepared... We are providing security to the candidates and they have started going to the field for campaigning from yesterday and there is nothing to fear," he said. Kumar, however, said providing security to each candidate contesting the polls, which begin on November 28, was difficult. "Providing security to each candidate is difficult. We are providing them collective security and they are being put up in secure areas. Whenever any candidate goes out for campaigning, we provide a double escort with him and secure the area for him to campaign," he said when pointed out that the candidates were alleging that they had not been provided security. DDC polls will be held from November 28 to December 22. Results will be declared on December 22. And that was a deliberate choice."She said by Rowling going out of her way to counteract someone who was trying to be inclusive of transgender people, and considering the phrase "people who menstruate" as an attack against women, she can't claim she's in support of trans and non-binary people."The thing is most people aren't saying that women aren't oppressed by their sex, that's not an argument anyone has made," she said.Blaque said people have to consider that part of fighting for the trans community is working to deprogram a lot of the language that excludes them."I don't call a lot of things transphobia," she said. "But I think it's silly to say something like this is not transphobia. When you're trying to say the only people who menstruate are women, you are alienating transfolk. "This being transphobia."He said Rowling's comments were hurtful towards trans people, partners of trans people, and supporters of the whole community."Firstly, no one is trying to say that sex isn't real," he said. "In my opinion, this is just a very weak thing said by anti-trans people to make trans people seem illogical."Raines continued, saying sex is not what defines a person's gender and the argument that sex is the be-all and end-all of someone's experience is very backwards."And why the hell does it matter?" "Even more so, they are militant about it. They have actively called for casting out trans women from women's shelters, for example. Places that trans women need to go to and are often the ones who most need to use women's shelters because they are almost always the ones who are discriminated against in a group."Some TERFs go so far as to side with far-right groups because they agree that trans women are not women and trans men are not men. This, Gender said, means they are vocally supporting groups who often attack women's rights such as having access to safe abortions and contraception."Because for TERFs, the point is not to fight for women's rights, but to attack transgender people," she said. "That is the point of being a TERF. YouTube's transgender community is speaking out against JK Rowling's latest 'transphobic' comments

It’s not clear whether they were three or four of them, but a batch of hardcore <keyword id="53557" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lashkar-e-Taiba">Lashkar-e-Taiba</keyword> terrorists entered India via its sealed borders last month, as per the latest IB inputs, planning to kill Prime Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Narendra+Modi">Narendra Modi</a>. Two are reportedly now in custody, thanks to the joint efforts by <keyword id="6364687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Intelligence-Bureau">Intelligence Bureau</keyword>, special cell of Delhi Police and J&amp;K cops who are on the prowl to nab others suspect.

"For now, the writing on the wall is clear: Infiltration has gone up significantly this year as compared to last year, with estimates putting the total cases so far at 100. In the days to come, both infiltration and terrorism will see a further spike," the intelligence officer warned. 
 
Agencies on Sunday pointed to a recce of the administrative base and did not rule out help from a 'mole' or overground worker in alerting the Jaish masterminds to troop positions within the camp, thus helping the fidayeen maximise casualties. "A recce was done. The terrorists were aware of the layout of the camp and knew their way around. They had possibly identified the stretches where the fence was not properly manned and accordingly found a safe spot to cut the perimeter wire, all possible lapses on part of the Army, which was in charge of guarding both the LoC and base perimeter, are subjects of a detailed enquiry," " an officer told TOI. 
 There have been four infiltration attempts over the past weeks. They were: <keyword id="3665893" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nowgamin-baramulla">Nowgamin Baramulla</keyword> in which four militants were killed; <keyword id="44760" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Poonch">Poonch</keyword> where one policeman was injured as he tried to intercept freshly-infiltrated <keyword id="6360343" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lashkar">Lashkar</keyword> terrorists and two instances of forces foiling infiltration bids at <keyword id="6438152" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gurez">Gurez</keyword> and <keyword id="2479581" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tangdhar">Tangdhar</keyword>. 
 
A possibility that the Uri attackers were the terrorists that got past Gurez or Tangdhar is also being considered. 
 
"It seemed that Pakistan was up to something. Uri, where a changeover of troops was in progress and which the attackers had possibly got advance information of, may have provided the perfect target... that the forces were concentrated in south Kashmir, dealing with protests there, may have made Jaish strike in north Kashmir," a senior intelligence officer told TOI. 
 
According to a police officer in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=J%26K&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">J&amp;K</a>, the police is preoccupied with the unrest in the valley and this has caused the failure of the counter-insurgency grid to undertake pro-active anti-terror operations over the past two months, which has resulted in terrorists consolidating their ranks in J&amp;K. 
 
"The preoccupation of J&amp;K police and central forces with crowd control has put counter-terror operations on hold. Moreover, intelligence on terrorists' movement and activity is not being generated. The number of terrorists holed up in the valley was around 170-180 before the current unrest. It remains to be seen if this has gone up significantly," the J&amp;K police officer told TOI.

Ahead of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=independence+day">Independence Day</a>, the government has issued a detailed advisory, directing states and Union Territories to beef up the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=security">security</a>. 
 
The seven-page advisory, which is little different from every year, has details keeping in mind the execution of Mumbai blasts convict <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=yakub+memon">Yakub Memon</a>, who was hanged on July 30. 
 
The government has mentioned the possibility of attacks by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Pakistan+terror+groups">Pakistan-sponsored terror groups</a>. 
 
It states specific security threats including a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=lashkar">Lashker-e-Taiba</a> (LeT plan to hijack or blow up an Air India flight on the Kabul-Delhi-Kabul sector and <keyword id="44984" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Al-Qaeda">al-Qaeda</keyword>'s designs to hit Indian naval facilities including the Karwar <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=india+navy">naval base</a> (INS Kadamba), the Southern Naval Command in Kochi (INS Venduruthy) and Mumbai-based Western Naval Command. 
 "<keyword id="28240" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Independence-day">Independence Day</keyword> function ... provides an attractive target for various militant, terrorist outfits ... and rabid communal elements due to high publicity value and concentrated presence of dignitaries," the advisory stated. 
 
Security has been beefed up at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=BJP">BJP</a> offices, commercial, aviation, tourist and railway facilities, as the advisory highlighted al-Qaida's plans to target these places. 
 
The Independence Day alert cites the continuous flow of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=intelligence+input">intelligence inputs</a> regarding specific threat of terror attacks by LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammad and even <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=al+qaeda">al-Qaeda</a>. 
 
It points out a LeT plot to target Mumbai or Gujarat around September or October, while a March alert speaks of possible fidayeen attacks in Delhi and J&amp;K. 
 
In view of the terror threats, the security agencies have asked the forces and state police to maintain "strict access control and anti-sabotage checks" besides intensifying patrolling and keeping strict vigil at railway stations and tracks, bus stands, airports and entry points.
