<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/56f3ef6d9105842a008b8877-1420/lebron wade.jpg" alt="lebron wade" data-mce-source="Lynne Sladky/AP" /><p class="source"><span>Lynne Sladky/AP</span></p><p class="caption">It's the Summer of LeBron and he is still winning.</p></div><p></p></div></div>It's LeBron's world and we are all just living in it.</p><p>On Wednesday night, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dwyane-wade-signing-with-chicago-bullst-2016-7" target="_blank">Dwyane Wade decided to leave the Miami Heat and sign with the Chicago Bulls</a>. And yet, even though on the surface the move seemingly has nothing to do with LeBron James, his fingerprints are on this move and he is the one who may benefit the most.</p><p>Let's take a look at all the ways in which Wade's $47 million deal with the Bulls actually helps James, a list that includes one important on-court scenario and some other minor perks.</p><p><strong>The Cavaliers now have an easier path to the NBA Finals</strong>.</p><p>This is the biggest benefit to LeBron and the Cavs. With Wade switching teams he has made one potential road block for the Cavs weaker but it is not enough to turn the Bulls into a contender.</p><p>If the Heat could have fielded a lineup that included Hassan Whiteside and Dwyane Wade, and had somehow gotten a full season out of Chris Bosh, that is a formidable opponent, a team that the Cavs would not enjoy facing in the playoffs. Now it is not going to happen. Meanwhile, the Bulls, with a weird backcourt mix of Wade, Rajon Rondo, and Jimmy Butler, are a borderline playoff team and no threat to the Cavs.</p><p>Make no mistake, the Cavaliers are still the heavy favorite to win the East no matter where Wade is playing. But this move just tightened the grip.</p><p><strong>LeBron has long coveted playing with Mike Dunleavy.</strong></p><p>In order to clear enough salary-cap space to sign Wade, the Bulls had to basically give forward Mike Dunleavy to the Cavs. In return, the Bulls will receive the rights to an unnamed European player, <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2016/07/cleveland_cavaliers_to_acquire_2.html" target="_blank">according to Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com</a>.</p><p>Dunleavy is a 35-year-old veteran who averaged just 7.2 points per game for the Bulls last season. But what is really interesting about this move is that, according to Haynes, Dunleavy is a player that LeBron has long coveted as a teammate. </p><p>It is unclear how much Dunleavy will help the Cavs next season, but clearly LeBron feels he is an asset and it cost his team almost nothing.</p><p><strong>LeBron was able to exact some more revenge on Pat Riley and the Heat by helping a friend.</strong></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/577e7e3f4321f11a008b6830-1159/ap_312352445659.jpg" alt="Pat Riley and LeBron James" data-mce-source="J Pat Carter/AP" /><p class="source"><span>J Pat Carter/AP</span></p><p class="caption">There is no love lost between Pat Riley and LeBron James.</p></div><p></p></div></div>When negotiations between Wade and the Heat started to break down, rumors began circulating that LeBron, who was on vacation with Wade at the time, was recruiting the Heat star to join the Cavs. </p><p>While that rumor was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dwyane-wade-lebron-james-reunion-rumors-2016-7" target="_blank">quickly shot down,</a> it was important because it was the first time everybody stopped and thought, "Wait, Wade might actually leave the Heat." At that point, the Bucks were seemingly out of the picture and the Nuggets were offering $52 million but seemed like a long shot at best. That left the Bulls, but without enough cap space to make it happen.</p><p>In step LeBron and the Cavs. If rumors, reports, and more importantly, common sense, are to be believed, the Cavs don't make roster moves without consulting James. That means LeBron was able to help his good friend by giving the OK to trade for Dunleavy.</p><p>But more importantly, LeBron likely saw this as another chance to hurt Pat Riley.</p><p>When LeBron decided to leave the Heat and return to Cleveland, Riley was not shy about how upset he was, calling it the biggest mistake of LeBron's career. After winning the championship this season, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lebron-james-motivation-to-win-championship-in-cleveland-2016-6" target="_blank">LeBron admitted that he was using those comments as motivation to win another ring.</a> While he didn't point out Riley specifically, it was obvious that he still held a grudge against Riley and the Heat for how they treated him on the way out the door.</p><p>On ESPN Radio, Le Batard discussed how James clearly was an influence in Wade's decision and James helped Wade exert power over Riley:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"LeBron James is absolutely about player empowerment. And the idea that he could do this to Pat Riley before Pat Riley could do it to him, that he could see down the line, 'Hey, Dwyane, this isn't about loyalty. Grab your power and use it as best you can.' Dwyane Wade, the last couple of years hasn't had leverage power. This year he had some leverage power [but] he didn't have enough to exert it the way LeBron James did. So, that one is a fascinating one, because LeBron James Pat Riley'd Pat Riley before Pat Riley could Pat Riley LeBron James."</p><p>In the end, Wade got a little bit more money (an amount that is likely offset by the lack of state income tax in Florida) and he makes the Bulls marginally better. Jay Hammond, a Republican. When he was elected governor in 1974, Alaska had only been a state for 15 years, and had used the highest income taxes in the nation to sustain itself. So, when the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System was completed in 1977, oil seemed a savior. But Hammond was wary. He took OPEC cofounder Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonso's assessment of oil as "the devil's excrement," and wanted to work toward "<a href="https://www.cgdev.org/sites/default/files/archive/doc/books/GovernorsSolution/Ch2_GovernorsSolution.pdf">diapering the devil</a>," as he explained in a treatise of the same name - that is, he didn't want Alaska to burn out its newfound wealth.</p><p>He was going to put a portion of Alaska's oil profits into a permanent fund, stabilizing the state over the long term, and keep taxes low. A few years later, the state established the independent Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation to manage the funds. The permanent fund is split into a corpus that cannot be touched except through a vote by Alaskans, and an earnings reserve that could be adjusted with a legislative vote. Starting in 1982, the state began sending a portion of the earnings reserve to every registered Alaskan, regardless of age or income, as long as they lived in the state for more than a year and were not a convicted felon.</p><p>Alaskans register each year from January to March, the year's PDF amount is announced in September, and Alaskans typically receive their payments in October. The amount usually ranges from $1,000 to $2,000 per person ( $4,000 to $8,000 for a family of four).</p><p>Last year, independent Gov. Bill Walker did not run for re-election, and his hugely unpopular <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alaska-permanent-fund-gubernatorial-race-2018-10">reduction of the dividend amount</a> was a key factor. Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy is now proposing ways to distribute back payments, and the fight over the Permanent Fund's future is raging.</p><p>Business Insider sent out a request to Alaskan readers asking how they spend their dividends. The following responses we've collected are not meant to be representative of the entire state, or illustrate all the ways Alaskans use the PFD. Pritzker, right, celebrates his win Tuesday night with running mate Juliana Stratton.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Tuesday may not have seen the "blue wave" that Democrats were hoping for, but they had major victories at the state level.</li><li>Democrats flipped seven governors' races on Tuesday, compared to just one governorship that the Republicans stole from an Independent.</li><li>In two of the flipped states, Democratic challengers unseated a Republican incumbent.</li></ul><p>Democrats were hoping to see Stacey Abrams elected as the nation's first black female governor Tuesday night, and although she hasn't conceded the Georgia race by Wednesday morning, current numbers show Republican Brian Kemp winning.</p><p>The Georgia race was perhaps the closest watched governor's race in the country, along with Florida, where yet another Democratic hopeful, Andrew Gillum, lost to a Republican.</p><p>But overall, the night was widely a success for the Democrats, who flipped seven states.</p><p>The Republicans only flipped one, Alaska, which was previously governed by an Independent, Bill Walker.</p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stacey-abrams-hints-at-runoff-against-brian-kemp-2018-11">Stacey Abrams, the Oprah-endorsed Democratic candidate, hints at a possible runoff against Republican Brian Kemp in the Georgia governor's race</a></em></p><p>The results of the gubernatorial races will no doubt be heralded as a rebuke of President Donald Trump by the Democrats. Two of the states that flipped on Tuesday, Michigan and Wisconsin, turned Republican for Trump in 2016. They may have lost Florida, but Tuesday's governor's races were a major victory for the Democrats

<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e3de110d9db1d581801b9a3-1569/ap9607120707.jpg" alt="Kobe Bryant" /><ul class="summary-list"><li>The New Jersey Nets planned to take Kobe Bryant with the eighth pick of the 1996 draft until a last-minute turn of events, as documented in Jonathan Abrams' book, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Boys-Among-Men-Prep-Pro/dp/080413927X">"Boys Among Men."</a></li><li>New Nets head coach and executive vice president John Calipari got cold feet about drafting Bryant when Bryant told him he would play in Italy if the Nets drafted him.</li><li>Meanwhile, powerful NBA agent David Falk told the Nets to draft Kerry Kittles, while Nets ownership expressed doubt about selecting a player straight out of high school.</li><li>Bryant fell to 13th in the draft and was taken by the Charlotte Hornets, who then traded the rights to Bryant to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Vlade Divac.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</li></ul><p>Kobe Bryant spent all 20 years of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he might not have ended up there in the first place if not for some crafty draft-day maneuvering and a unique set of circumstances.</p><p>NBA writer <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Boys-Among-Men-Prep-Pro/dp/080413927X">Jonathan Abrams' 2016 book "Boys Among Men,"</a> about the generation of high-school-to-pros NBA players, recounts how the New Jersey Nets were locked onto Bryant in the 1996 draft until forces internal and external changed their plans.</p><p>Leading up to the 1996 draft, Bryant had made a name for himself as a high school basketball star at Lower Merion High School outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Stories of Bryant dominating college prospects and NBA players in workouts had made waves around the league, though at the time, a stigma remained in the NBA about drafting players straight from high school.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e3de177d9db1d5876084918-1500/john%20calipari%20nets.jpg" alt="john calipari nets" />The New Jersey Nets had just hired John Nash as GM and John Calipari, who was fresh off a Final Four appearance with the University of Massachusetts in 1995-96, as head coach and executive vice president. Calipari had veto power in player personnel decisions.<p>The Nets had the eighth pick in the draft and viewed Bryant as a sure-fire star who could catapult their rebuild.</p><p>According to Abrams, the Nets had Bryant in for three workouts - an unusually high number - and had all but locked in on him. On the eve of the draft, Nash and Calipari had dinner with Bryant's parents, Joe and Pamela, and told them they would draft their son.</p><h2>Ownership has other thoughts</h2><p>According to Abrams, a group of businessmen nicknamed "The Secaucus Seven" owned the Nets at the time. The owners rotated "who acted as basketball liaison" to work with Nash and Calipari. In 1996, Joe Taub had that responsibility.</p><p>On the day of the draft, Nash and Calipari had lunch with Taub and told him they planned to draft Bryant. Taub, according to Abrams, expressed doubt, wondering if it would take too long for Bryant to be ready to contribute in the NBA. Nash tried to assure Taub that Bryant would be prepared to play right away.</p><p>According to Abrams, Taub asked Nash and Calipari to consider drafting John Wallace, a senior forward from Syracuse, who had helped lead his team to win the NCAA championship in 1995-96.</p><p>Nash told him they would consider Wallace, but "still planned to acquire Bryant," Abrams wrote.</p><h2>Three fateful phone calls change plans</h2><p>In the build-up to the draft, Bryant apparently had a change-of-heart about the Nets.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e3de62ae35bab5f4160c284-1500/john%20calipari%20nets.jpg" alt="john calipari nets" />According to Abrams, shortly after meeting with Taub, Nash received a call from legendary NBA agent Arn Tellem, who was working with Bryant. Tellem told Nash that it "isn't going to work out" and that the Nets shouldn't draft Bryant.<p>Tellem told Nash that Bryant had had a falling-out with his parents, and didn't want to play in New Jersey, where he'd be close to home and his parents.</p><p>"I never bought that," Nash told Abrams.</p><p>Meanwhile, Calipari had gotten a call from Bryant himself in which Bryant threatened to play in Italy if the Nets drafted him.</p><p>Nash told Calipari not to worry, saying he would try to get to the bottom of why Bryant was getting cold feet.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e3de2b0d9db1d599317d783-1371/kerry%20kittles%20college.jpg" alt="kerry kittles college" />Calipari then got another phone call, this time from another super-agent, David Falk, who had gotten wind of Bryant's desire to play elsewhere. Falk told Calipari the Nets should draft Kerry Kittles, a guard he represented from Villanova who had averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game in his senior year.<p>Calipari was beginning to get cold feet, according to Abrams. He was nervous about going against ownership's wishes, particularly by taking a high school player who some viewed as a risk. It was especially risky to gamble on a high school player who then might spurn the team and play internationally.</p><p>Additionally, Calipari had been mocked in the media after the Nets hosted Bryant for workouts. According to Abrams, some joked that Calipari didn't realize he no longer needed to work out high school athletes as an NBA coach instead of a college coach.</p><h2>The Lakers get involved</h2><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e3de3dd0ce3d15ba61c99d5-1500/jerry%20west%201992.jpg" alt="jerry west 1992" />Then-GM and Lakers legend Jerry West was looking for a big splash in the 1996 offseason, primarily in free agency, where the Lakers planned to target Shaquille O'Neal, a dominant, 24-year-old center who had an interest in the Lakers.<p>To open up cap space to sign O'Neal, the Lakers needed to move center Vlade Divac. The Lakers had offered Divac to the Nets for the eighth pick, but the Nets said no, as Divac didn't fit their timeline.</p><p>In the meantime, West had grown enamored with Bryant after hosting Bryant for two workouts that Bryant dominated, all against bigger, older competition. The Lakers had the 24th pick, and West didn't think Bryant would be on the board when they picked.</p><p>After the second workout with Bryant, West reportedly said, "We've got to do everything we can to get this guy."</p><h2>The Nets get scared, and Bryant falls in the draft</h2><p>On the night of the draft, Calipari had told ownership that if Kittles were there at eight, the Nets would pick him. If not, they would take Bryant. Nash told Abrams he had a good idea of what the order would be and knew that both players would be available at eight. </p><p>"I was devastated," Nash told Abrams.</p><p>Seemingly every team came up with reasons not to draft Bryant. For many, it worked out OK - the 1996 draft is considered one of the best, producing Bryant, Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Stephon Marbury, Jermaine O'Neal, Marcus Camby, and more.</p><p>There was a recurring theme through the first several picks - teams were interested in Bryant after working him out but couldn't swallow, taking an unknown high school player so high.</p><ul><li>The 76ers had the No. 1 pick in the draft, and then-GM Brad Greenberg liked Iverson. 76ers scout Tony DiLeo, who had worked out Bryant, suggested trading star wing Jerry Stackhouse for a lottery pick to select Bryant. The team didn't want to trade Stackhouse, who they had taken with the third pick the year before. They selected Iverson.</li><li>The Toronto Raptors had the second pick, but then-GM Isiah Thomas had heard of West's' interest in Bryant and had been told by Bryant's father that he didn't want Bryant playing in Canada. They selected Marcus Camby.</li><li>The Vancouver Grizzlies wanted a frontcourt player with the third pick and selected forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim.</li><li>The Milwaukee Bucks hatched a plan with the fourth pick, developed by head coach Mike Dunleavy. It "amounted to a pyramid scheme," according to Abrams. They would take Marbury fourth, then trade him to the Minnesota Timberwolves at five for Ray Allen, plus a future draft pick. They would then flip Allen to the Boston Celtics at six, for an extra pick. Dunleavy also had a plan to trade the sixth pick to the Nets for No. 8 and a future pick, then select Bryant at eight. But then-Bucks owner Herb Kohl shot down the idea. The Bucks ended up with Allen, and the Wolves got Marbury.</li><li>The Celtics at six were too nervous about drafting a high school player and selected Antoine Walker.</li><li>The Clippers also thought Bryant was too young and selected Lorenzen Wright instead.</li></ul><p>The Nets folded and drafted Kittles with the eighth pick. Calipari told reporters at the time, "It's the best thing we can do."</p><p>Bryant continued to fall in the draft, with four more teams passing over him. Eventually, the Charlotte Hornets selected Bryant with the 13th overall pick.</p><h2>The Hornets and Lakers strike a deal</h2><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e3de47d0ce3d15c45161e12-1333/jerry%20west%20kobe.jpg" alt="jerry west kobe" />With West needing to dump Divac's contract to open up cap space, he was able to agree to a deal that would send Divac to the Hornets for the 13th pick in Bryant. West would get Bryant <em>and</em> open up the cap space for O'Neal.<p>There was one problem - Divac was threatening not to go to Charlotte, holding up the deal. While a trade agreement had been reached, it wasn't finalized for almost two weeks.</p><p>Finally, Divac relented on July 11, 1996.</p><p>"For me to go somewhere just to play because I have a contract wasn't fun for me," Divac told Abrams. But he didn't want to hold up the future plans of so many other people.</p><p>"And then I realized I'm going to screw the deal with Kobe and Shaq and [late Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss] and went to Charlotte for a couple of days and I said, 'I'll give it a chance.'"</p><p>So, Divac went to Charlotte, Bryant went to the Lakers, and the Lakers signed O'Neal to a seven-year, $121 million contract.</p><p>"[The Nets] could've drafted [Bryant]," West told Abrams. "He would've played there. He had no choice. I was shocked that he didn't go there, to be honest."</p><p>Bryant, who was one of nine people killed in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, harbored resentment toward the Hornets for moving him. In 2014, he tweeted that the Hornets traded him because "they had no use for me."</p><p>Nash, meanwhile, is still resentful for the turn of events. He stayed with the Nets until 2000. Calipari remained with the Nets for three years before returning to college basketball.</p><p>"If David Falk hadn't been so insistent on us taking Kittles, I think Kobe would have been drafted by the Nets, and John would probably still be the coach," he told Abrams. "Who knows? The wild story of how Kobe Bryant nearly ended up with the Nets - and several others teams - in the legendary 1996 NBA draft

He's averaging the fewest shot attempts of his career, not leading the Cleveland Cavaliers in scoring, and acting more as a facilitator.</p><p>As James leans on his talented supporting cast this year, he's apparently taken it upon himself to make sure he throws perfect passes to his teammates.</p><p>In a <a href="http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18159427/why-lebron-james-cooking-more-dishes">story from ESPN's Brian Windhorst</a> on James' increased playmaking, James said he memorized how to each one of his teammates likes to catch passes, from the height of the pass to where the seams line up.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"It's my responsibility to know how my guys want the ball.&#xa0;If they like it with no seams or with the seams. I know that might not make sense - some guys like it different ways. I get the ball right in my hand before I throw it. I know the guys on my team like seams or guys who like the ball high when they catch it. I know guys who like it low or midsection. I know where everyone wants the ball, and I just try to put it there on time and on target. All they have to do is catch and fire. It's those guys working on their craft that allows me to do that."</p><p><a href="http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=18175525&amp;ex_cid=espnapi_public">According to ESPN's Tom Haberstroh</a>, Kevin Love and Channing Frye are shooting 59% from three-point range off passes from James. That means, on average, a three-point attempt from Love or Frye off of a LeBron pass is worth about 1.8 points, the equivalent of a dunk, which goes in 90% of the time.</p><p>James' precision can be seen&#xa0;below as he&#xa0;hits Kevin Love square in the pocket, setting up an easy corner three:</p><p><div><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/oemt?muted=1" width="800" height="404" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" webkitallowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" scrolling="no"></iframe></div></p><p>Interestingly, a scout told Windhorst that one of the amazing things about LeBron's passes is how impractical they often are.&#xa0;</p><p><span>"LeBron breaks all the passing rules," the scout said. "You're not supposed to leave your feet and pass, and he uses it as a weapon. You're not supposed to pass through traffic. He throws backhanded fastballs that buzz the ears of two defenders. LeBron James is so obsessed with perfection that he memorized exactly how each one of his teammates likes to catch passes

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/58769657f10a9a260b8b515f-1209/undefined" alt="lebron james" data-mce-source="Tony Dejak/AP"><p class="source"><span>Tony Dejak/AP</span></p></img></div><p></p></div></div>At 32 years old, LeBron James is having one of his most robust statistical seasons.<p>While he's averaging his usual 26 points and nearly eight rebounds per game, the number that sticks out the most is his 8.2 assists per game, the second highest average of his career.</p><p>On a Cleveland Cavaliers team stocked with scorers and shooters, James has tried to improve his playmaking skills, specifically, by learning how to throw the perfect pass.</p><p>James told ESPN earlier in the season that he knows exactly how&#xa0;each of his teammates - whether they like to catch the ball with the seam, without the seams, high, low, etc.</p><p>On Tuesday before the Cavs took on the Utah Jazz, James said he gave new teammate Kyle Korver the same treatment.</p><p>"I've watched about 25 minutes of his clips over the last couple of days," James told reporters. "I've seen where he likes the ball, how he likes the ball, if he likes it low, if he likes it high, if he likes it seams, no seams.</p><p>"From my perspective, as far as a quarterback, see where my receiver likes the ball. See what sides he likes to come off of pin-downs [screens] and things of that nature. So, I got a good feeling, but it will also take some time on the floor. But I'll get the ball to him."</p><p>Though James didn't want to reveal his total scouting report for his teammates, when pressed, he gave a brief rundown of how to pass to his teammates.</p><p>"It doesn't matter for Channing [Frye]. I try to put it on the seams as much as possible, but he catches and fires, he doesn't move the ball. You see some guys, when they catch it, they kind of move it and fix it. Channing lets it go. Champ [James Jones] lets it go. But you gotta put the ball high for Champ, because he shoots it at the peak of the height. J.R. [Smith] likes the ball a little bit lower because he kind of dips with it, and also with [Mike] Dunleavy [Jr.] before the trade, he liked it low, too, because he used to dip with the ball, too."</p><p>James also said that players like Frye, Jones, Smith, and Kevin Love have "ultra-green lights" to shoot the ball whenever they get it. He told reporters that he gave Kyle Korver that same advice - shoot it as soon as he gets it.</p><p>While James had a relatively low assist count in the Cavs' loss to the Jazz (five), he did show off his impeccable ball placement, hitting DeAndre Liggins right in the pocket for a corner three.</p><p>And later did the same for Kevin Love.</p><p>As James gets older, becoming more and more of a playmaker may be a natural progression of his game, particularly alongside more scoring-minded players like Irving and Love. LeBron James has become the Cavaliers' quarterback

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/553a4d1b69beddf61a439043-1119-840/derrick-rose-back.jpg" border="0" alt="derrick rose back"><p class="source"><span>Scott Halleran/Getty</span></p><p class="caption">Derrick Rose looks like his 2010 MVP form again.</p></img></div><p></p></div></div>Nobody knew what to expect from Derrick Rose heading into his first playoff series since 2012.</p><p>But over the first three games of round one, Rose has assuaged any fears of playoff rust by looking dominant and helping the Bulls to a 3-0 lead over the Milwaukee Bucks.</p><p>Most encouragingly, he has kicked it into another gear just weeks after returning from a knee injury. </p><p>Thursday night's double-overtime win over the Bucks - in which Rose dropped 32 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals - was just Rose's eighth game back from surgery to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/derrick-rose-injured-out-indefinitely-2015-2">repair a torn meniscus in February</a>.</p><p>Rose only played one game in the 2011-12 playoffs before tearing his ACL, and has missed the last two postseasons with other injuries.</p><p>Though the Bucks are a young, inexperienced, overmatched opponent, they were defensively elite during the regular season (2nd in defensive rating) and have put up a respectable fight against the Bulls. Nonetheless, with Rose on the court, the Bucks haven't had a chance. When Rose has been playing this postseason, the Bulls have a 111.5 offensive rating and a 93.9 defensive rating, outscoring the Bucks by nearly 18 points per 100 possessions. They're finally all healthy in the playoffs, and in 56 minutes together, have outscored the Bucks by 17.</p><p>If Rose can maintain this form, the Bulls are arguably the scariest team in the East. Derrick Rose is dominating in his first playoffs since 2012, and the rest of the NBA should be terrified

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/55bbe0d12acae72c008bc347-1200-900/fred hoiberg.jpg" alt="fred hoiberg" data-mce-source="Jonathan Daniel/Getty" /><p class="source"><span>Jonathan Daniel/Getty</span></p><p class="caption">The Bulls think Fred Hoiberg is the final piece to the puzzle.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The Chicago Bulls have had one of the quietest offseasons in the NBA this summer.</p><p>After a season in which they struggled with injuries and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chicago-bulls-slump-leads-to-thibodeau-quesitons-2015-2">in-house fighting with head coach Tom Thibodeau</a>, the Bulls only made one key change this offseason - <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chicago-bulls-fire-tom-thibodeau-2015-5">they fired Thibodeau</a> and hired Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg.</p><p>Otherwise, the Bulls handled their biggest priority, re-signing Jimmy Butler to a five-year, $90 million deal and bringing back their other free agents like Mike Dunleavy and Aaron Brooks. </p><p>In doing so, the Bulls are making a simple bet - they have a championship team that was set back by injuries and a coach, Thibodeau, who had a bumpy relationship with some players.</p><p>Thibodeau's grinding, intense style reportedly wore on players to the point that they worked out at other gyms during the off-season, and the front office reportedly had a major dispute with the high minutes Thibodeau played starters. The Bulls under Thibodeau were always an elite defensive team, and when healthy, a decent offensive one. Under Hoiberg, the Bulls believe they can retain their defensive nature while making strides on offense.</p><p>However, there's also reason to believe this is an overly confident approach by the Bulls front office.</p><p>First, Hoiberg is inheriting a team that is both naturally and unfortunately injury-prone. </p><ul><li>Derrick Rose played 51 games in 2014-15, his most games in four years, yet he still had to undergo knee surgery in the middle of the season.</li><li>Joakim Noah's play suffered after having knee surgery last summer. He played 67 games, but at 30 years old, has only played more than 70 games once in the last six years.</li><li>Pau Gasol, at 35 years old, just had a wonderful season, but averaged over 34 minutes per game, his most in three seasons. It's questionable whether he can replicate his All-Star year after logging so many minutes at his age.</li><li>Jimmy Butler, for as good of a season as he just had, also missed 15 games for the second year in a row and has averaged nearly 39 minutes per game the last two seasons. It's fair to wonder if he, too, can replicate an All-Star year, which was the standout of his career.</li></ul><p>Thibodeau, though he had his faults, also continually got the most out of an oft-injured team. Though their playoff record doesn't back their regular season success, they've rarely, if ever, had a fully healthy team going into the playoffs. Regardless, they've consistently been one of the top teams in the East.</p><p>Players and the front office may have a better relationship with Hoiberg, but it's fair to wonder if any coach could squeeze that much more out of the Bulls unless they're fully healthy. Hoiberg can manage the minutes better than Thibodeau, but even with the constant injuries, the Bulls were still 10th in offensive rating and 11th in defensive rating last season. Unless the Bulls top players repeat their All-Star seasons and suddenly can stay healthy, is there that much room for improvement?</p><p>Working in the Bulls' favor is a weak Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers once again look like the best team, but the Atlanta Hawks may have taken a step backward, and nobody else quite seems ready to enter the contender conversation.</p><p>There's room for the Bulls to improve, but they've kept together a team that lost fairly convincingly to the Cavaliers in six games last season.
