Times Prime rolls out India’s first AI-driven Omni channel marketing campaign

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Critical Role on Wednesday announced "Moonward," a four-part miniseries.</li><li>"Moonward" follows CR's 2023 acquisition of "Midst," a sci-fi space western audio drama.</li></ul><p>Critical Role has been churning out some big productions aside from its long-running main "Dungeons &amp; Dragons" campaigns. Now, they're looking to sink their teeth further into the podcasting business.</p><p>Critical Role creative director Marisha Ray announced the miniseries on a livestream on Wednesday evening. Titled "Moonward," the four-part, stand-alone series is set in the world of <a target="_blank" href="https://variety.com/2023/digital/news/critical-role-acquires-midst-podcast-1235567942/">"Midst,"</a> an experimental audio drama that <a target="_blank" href="https://variety.com/2023/digital/news/critical-role-acquires-midst-podcast-1235567942/">Critical Role acquired in 2023</a>.</p><p>"Midst," a sci-fi space western set on a desert planet, was originally helmed by three unnamed narrators. Now, its crew — Matt Roen, Sara Wile, and Xen — have come out of anonymity.</p><p>On "Moonward," they're getting experimental on-set with Ray and her fellow CR main cast member Liam O'Brien.</p><p>Ray said "Moonward" will be set shortly after the events of "Midst's" three seasons. It will feature a cast of characters "on an expedition to locate the sunken remains of Midst's destroyed moon."</p><p>"We all walked away from the table at the end really attached to the story we told," O'Brien said on Wednesday evening's stream.</p><p>There are no dice and no rules in "Moonward" — unlike the "D&amp;D main campaign" those two cast members are used to. Instead, it will feature just pure roleplay and acting.</p><p>"It's certainly nothing like what we have done here at Critical Role," Ray said, likening the experience to combining roleplaying games with a live jam session.</p><p>This has been a significant year for Critical Role's expansion into the business of nerdworld. The third season of the company's Amazon-backed animation series, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/matt-mercer-critical-role-tease-legend-of-the-mighty-nein-2024-4">"The Legend of Vox Machina,"</a> is getting a fall release. The "Mighty Nein" animated series, based on their second long-running "D&amp;D" campaign, is also in the works. And this agreement is now canceled by Putin," Scholz said, adding that it was a "watershed moment of international politics."</p><p>When Brennan pressed him about whether or not he thought Europe and Germany had been too complacent, he said they should have been prepared for this possibility.</p><p>"What is Putin thinking of? He is thinking like the imperialists in the 17th, 18th, 19th century," Scholz said. "He is thinking that all about the nation is power, and that if you are mighty enough, you can just take territory of your neighbors. And this is an activity and an idea we cannot accept and we will not accept."</p><p>He said he thinks all Western leaders can do to deter Putin is convince him it's not working and that he will not succeed.</p><p><keyword id="11894337" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="russia" source="Orion">Russia</keyword>'s invasion of Ukraine has had a reverberating effect throughout Europe. For instance, Scholz said Germany changed its approach to international relations, including its strategy to never send weapons to a country in conflict. <ul class="summary-list"><li>In April 2021, a record-breaking number of workers quit their jobs — a trend that hasn't let up.</li><li>At the same time, an organizing wave has spread across retailers, such as Starbucks and Amazon.</li></ul><p>A year ago, if you'd asked Hope Liepe if she'd be working at a unionized Starbucks, she "would've probably said that was, like, insane and would never happen — especially at Starbucks."</p><p>But last month, the store in Ithaca, New York, where the 18-year-old works as a barista joined a wave of Starbucks stores officially voting to unionize. </p><p>"I remember that day. We all came together in this big watch party," Liepe said. "Just the excitement and just the joy that you could feel from all of us of having completed something together, and being able to move together to form a better workplace for all of us."</p><p>Since then, all three locations in Ithaca have <a href="https://www.ithacajournal.com/story/news/2022/05/02/ithaca-starbucks-join-union-following-buffalo-victory/7366533001/">voted to unionize</a>, along with over 50 <a href="https://twitter.com/SBWorkersUnited/status/1521548271306559488?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1521548271306559488%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.huffpost.com%2Fentry%2Fstarbucks-unionized-50-stores-in-us_n_62717c0fe4b0bc48f580b8e7">Starbucks stores</a> nationwide. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/first-apple-retail-workers-union-election-atlanta-2022-4">Apple workers</a> in Atlanta and New York are looking to follow their lead. And the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-warehouse-new-york-staten-island-alu-union-nlrb-vote-2022-4">Amazon Labor Union</a> pulled off an upset victory, marking the retail giant's first-ever unionized warehouse. </p><p>"We are listening and learning from the partners in these stores as we always do across the country," Starbucks said in a comment to Insider. "From the beginning, we've been clear in our belief that we are better together as partners, without a union between us, and that conviction has not changed." </p><p>Liz Shuler, the president of the AFL-CIO, the country's largest labor federation, said the past year has shown "workers in motion."</p><p>"Coming out of the pandemic, working people have not only shown their resilience, but they've shown that they are ready to draw a line and demand more," she said.</p><div type="image" title="union activists striking with Kellogg's workers" height="965" width="1287" msid="91577125" hostid="261"></div><p>It's hard to say unionization is at a tipping point. While Gallup <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/354455/approval-labor-unions-highest-point-1965.aspx">found</a> 68% of Americans approve of unions, a high unseen since 1965, actual membership fell yet again in 2021.</p><p>But one thing is clear: The culture of work in America changed drastically in the past year. Demand for higher wages, a rise in so-called <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-antiwork-workers-quit-dont-work-strike-better-conditions-2021-11">anti-work attitudes</a>, "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/labor-shortage-slow-up-great-reshuffle-gen-z-demands-workplace-2021-11">slowing up</a>," and a thirst for organizing are just some of the tools workers wielded with mighty force. The year workers said "no" to what they viewed as low wages and poor conditions <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/labor-shortage-quit-job-openings-record-vacancies-labor-department-2021-6">began last April</a> when Americans walked off the job in an unorganized fashion to the tune of a record 4 million resignations — and it hasn't let up since.</p><p>"I think the pace of the change has surprised me," Shuler said. "We always knew the potential was there." </p><p>"It's a time where people are finding their voice and ready to stand up and say, 'We're not gonna take it anymore,'" Shuler added. "So whether you're in a union or not, I think workers have been pretty dissatisfied with their jobs — and they're taking action."</p><h2>Saying 'no' means quitting, unionizing, slowing up, or protesting for more</h2><p>April 2021 kickstarted a wave of quitting felt around the country.</p><p>It was around that time that vaccines started to become <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-us-will-have-vaccines-300-million-people-may-2021-3">widely available</a>, and people who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/37-million-more-people-would-quit-jobs-if-no-pandemic-2021-8">held off on quitting</a> during the thick of the pandemic took the leap. There was also pure discontent: Entering a new wave of the pandemic, workers began to reflect on how they were treated — and for many, it <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/workers-rage-quitting-jobs-in-a-tightening-labor-market-2021-5">didn't measure up</a>.</p><p>"Listen, we can try to come up with a fancy answer on why are people resigning," Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh told Insider. "The bottom line is the pandemic really gave people time to think about where they are in their own personal life, where they are financially with their families and putting food on the table."</p><p>A lot of these workers haven't really stopped working. Many seem to be <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jobs-great-resignation-reshuffle-gen-z-millennials-quitting-switching-careers-2021-10">reshuffling</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quitting-making-more-money-great-resignation-pew-research-survey-2022-3">moving into roles</a> that pay better or fit their lifestyle or aspirations.</p><p>"Why are people leaving work? People are leaving their jobs because they're not satisfied," Walsh said. They probably want more money, and many workers have succeeded in getting it — but with a whole lot of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-overpowered-wage-growth-americans-losing-buying-power-labor-shortage-2022-4">inflation tacked on</a>.</p><p>It turns out, there's an organized way to fight for more money, better benefits, and job security without leaving your job: unionizing. </p><p>"I think a lot of people are looking at organizing as an opportunity to collectively support increasing wages, increasing benefits, increasing worker protections and job safety on the job site," Walsh said. Unionized workers in the US make $1,169 in median weekly earnings, while nonunion workers make $975, the <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/union2.nr0.htm">Bureau of Labor Statistics</a> said.</p><p>But despite Americans signaling that they want higher pay and better working conditions, union membership has been on the decline since a <a href="https://sgp.fas.org/crs/misc/RL32553.pdf">high in 1954</a>, and 2021 was no exception. </p><p>"It's a complicated battle because in America, there's this resistance toward labor movements," said Andres Felipe Almeida Gomez, a restaurant worker in New York who's part of the worker advocacy group One Fair Wage. "It's almost considered evil, but now people are kind of waking up."</p><p>Signs of "waking up" don't always involve unionizing. Some workers are purposefully decreasing their productivity, known as a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/labor-shortage-slow-up-great-reshuffle-gen-z-demands-workplace-2021-11">"slow up"</a> in pursuit of better work-life balance.</p><p>And, there's the third of work stoppages in 2021 that were <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-many-workers-strike-unions-2021-labor-shortage-wage-shortage-2022-2">by nonunionized workers</a>, according to researchers at Cornell University's ILR School — like the nine Burger King workers <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/burger-king-we-all-quit-sign-viral-workers-labor-shortage-2021-7">who all left</a> over understaffing and high temperatures, putting up a sign that said, "We all quit — sorry for the inconvenience."</p><p>One such worker hitting the streets sans union is Goma Yonjan Gurung, a nail-salon worker who's involved in a push to pass the <a href="https://bronx.news12.com/nail-salon-workers-rally-in-manhattan-to-demand-fair-wages-safer-working-conditions">Nail Salon Minimum Standards Council Act</a>. She, her nail salon "sisters," and <a href="https://www.tag24.com/justice/activism/this-industry-needs-a-new-foundation-nyc-nail-salon-workers-rally-for-their-rights-2405208">local politicians</a> rallied in Manhattan's Zucotti Park to advocate that employers introduce higher wages and standards and give workers more of a say. </p><p>"They have worked very hard in this industry, and they know the struggle," she said through a translator.</p><div type="image" title="Nail salon workers rallying in New York" height="2268" width="3024" msid="91577127" hostid="261"></div><p>Gurung said they were asking for "a very bare minimum," and that nail salon workers were entitled to paid leave and pensions, just like any other worker.</p><p>"I've spent half of my life working in this industry, over 25 years. After working that many years, I have nothing when I look back at it," Gurung told Insider. But she was hopeful that nail-salon workers would have "something" in the future. "And not end up like me — like pension, holiday, vacation, and paid sick leave," she added. </p><h2>The 'Forever Resignation' is here</h2><p>Employers still hold the power — they're the ones hiring and firing, after all — but with what could be a "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/great-resignation-forever-turnover-job-quitting-remote-work-2022-5">Forever Resignation</a>" on their hands, they'll need to step it up to attract workers.</p><p>Some white-collar workers would <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/returning-to-the-office-how-these-employees-pushed-back-2022-3">rather quit</a> than return to the office — or won't even entertain a job interview for an in-person job. A November survey from the ADP Research Institute <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/return-to-office-great-resignation-gen-z-thinking-about-quitting-2022-4">found</a> that 71% of 18- to 24-year-olds said they'd consider looking for another job if they had to return full time. Service workers are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/labor-shortage-hospitality-workers-restaurant-hotels-pay-wages-joblist-survey-2021-7">turning their backs</a> on the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/entertainment-and-restaurant-workers-leading-great-resignation-jolts-2021-11">low-paid industry</a> altogether for better pay, benefits, and conditions. </p><p>In Wisconsin, where nurses at UW Health have been trying to <a href="https://wisconsinexaminer.com/2022/02/26/nurses-seeking-union-at-uw-health-raise-their-campaigns-public-profile/">unionize since 2019</a>, getting a union back would "go a long way toward both recruitment and retention," said Zach Sielaff, a 38-year-old registered nurse in the children's operating room.</p><div type="image" title="UW nurses on an informational picket" height="959" width="1278" msid="91577129" hostid="261"></div><p>On top of all of that, the perception of organized labor has "changed dramatically" over the past year, Shuler said, driven in no small part by a court of public opinion watching the workers organizing.</p><p>So what's happened since April 2021? Workers, especially low-wage ones, emerged from a pandemic where, for the most part, they had to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/many-essential-workers-not-heroes-by-choice-in-america-2020-4">fend for themselves</a> when it came to safety and financial stability. When economic recovery came, workers remembered the position they'd been left in — and the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meet-kelloggs-worker-on-strike-labor-shortage-worker-power-2021-11">sacrifices</a> they'd been forced to make. Now, they had more options.</p><p>For some, that was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/workers-are-quitting-jobs-after-reevaluating-their-lives-labor-market-2021-6">quitting</a>. For others, it was realizing that the people who'd been standing next to them as they <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/low-wage-essential-workers-cant-social-distance-less-protections-2020-6">struggled</a> to find masks and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/customer-is-always-right-etail-worker-violence-harassment-2021-9">dealt</a> with abusive customers were fending for themselves, too — and realizing that they <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retail-unions-rise-worker-frustration-covid-pandemic-2022-3">could change that together</a>.</p><p>"Personally, I think that the labor movement is long overdue for a movement like this," said Laura Garza, a Starbucks partner and union organizer who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-starbucks-amazon-organizers-company-deeply-concerned-pro-union-president-2022-5/?wes">traveled to the White House</a>. "I think the pandemic really opened everybody's eyes that, 'Hey, we should be working with better conditions, not the conditions that we had been working under, and we deserve a dignity to organize.'"</p>

This comes after it tasted success of some of its Indian content both in the country as well as abroad. <br /><br />The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/nickledeons-motu-paltu-becomes-the-most-searched-show-in-china/articleshow/70228055.cms">spectacular success of <em>Mighty Bheem</em></a> in particular is a good reason for Netflix to focus more on creating new shows locally. “The content is authentically Indian. The setting is rural India. The stories and characters are local. The more authentically local the show is, the better it travels,” Ted Sarandos chief content officer of Netflix told Business Insider India on June 18.<br /><strong><br />All for the eyeballs<br /></strong><br />Netflix had about 5% market reach in India, across platforms-- both web and mobile-- according to data from Comscore verified by Business Insider. This is largely because Netflix is the most expensive among all streaming platforms in India.<br /><br />The American video streaming platform has been trying to keep itself “premium” in India and hence the all it’s plans are priced more than twice of what other OTT platforms charge. The basic Netflix plan starts at ₹500 a month, whereas, <keyword id="2739840" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hotstar">Hotstar</keyword>’s premium membership starts at ₹299 a month. Amazon’s prime membership starts from ₹129 a month — and it has a lot more to offer than just its video streaming platform. <br /><br /><strong>Giving in, reluctantly</strong><br /><br />Netflix is eyeing to capture a bigger pie of the Indian OTT market by rolling out domestic contest. Separately, it is also reportedly testing a mobile-only plan that is estimated to be price from ₹250 onwards — half the price of it’s basic plan in India. <br /><br />But with the announcement of 5 new shows, Netflix seems to be hoping that content will win viewers over than just the pricing. <br /><br /><strong>Stars in the net</strong><br /><br />Mai is a story of a 47-year-old woman who leads a double life of a don. “This is my second collaboration with Netflix after Bulbul and we are again looking to disrupt the kind of content audiences are consuming,’ said Anushka Sharma. <br /><br />Further it is going to launch Betaal — a story of horror incidents that occurs when a British official unleashes a zombie. <br /><br />Also, following the Amazon’s footsteps, Netflix is also going to roll out Bombay Begum (much similar to Prime’s Four more shots) which is going to tell the story of five urban women. <br /><br />Netflix today announced five new original series across a variety of genres including Young Adult, drama, thriller, horror and comedy. With deadly zombies, scary gangsters and daring friends, these incredibly diverse Indian stories are for mainstream audiences in India and around the world. <br /><br /><strong>Netflix’s successful shows </strong><br /><br />Huma Qureshi’s Leila — released on June 14 — made headlines for being one of the few dystopian dramas in India. The aspirational life many of them sell seems at odds with a time when many people are just trying to muddle through. CEOs mull the future of media and advertising, TV's death spiral, and influencers branch out

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Maya Elious is a 29-year-old business consultant and personal branding strategist for women.</li><li>She never thought she would become an entrepreneur, but after turning her college side gig into a full-time job building online brands for celebrities and nonprofit organizations, she realized she had a knack for consulting.</li><li>"I've launched many offerings over the years: courses, masterclasses, live events, group coaching programs, monthly memberships, one-on-one coaching, and an agency model," Elious said. She eventually settled on two high-end program offerings.</li><li>She advised aspiring consultants not to be afraid to narrow down their niche.</li><li>The proof of Elious' approach is in the numbers. In August of 2018, she had earned $13,607; in August 2019, she brought in $45,503. That kind of explosive growth has catapulted her from $89,000 in annual earnings in 2017 to more than $250,000 this year. </li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/prime?module=article&amp;area=summary">Click here for more BI Prime stories.</a></li></ul><p><a href="https://www.mayaelious.com/">Maya Elious</a> didn't set out to become an entrepreneur. She didn't even intend to go into business. But over the last three years, the 29-year-old has become the go-to business consultant and personal branding strategist for women who want to monetize their message and package their skill sets into premium educational training programs, masterclasses, and online courses, and she's set to clear a quarter of a million in revenue by the end of 2019.  </p><p>She shared with Business Insider her success story.</p><h1>Turning a college side gig into a business</h1><p>Elious pursued a communications degree to please her parents in 2008, but it was the time she spent building and updating her Myspace page between classes that kick-started her career. An observant classmate offered her $50 to design a custom Myspace page for them, and it was then that Elious discovered that the hobbies and skills she practiced for fun could be profitable. </p><p>"I thought, 'If one person pays me for something, then I can get more people to pay me for it," she told Business Insider. That year, she started her first business - a web and graphic design firm - at just 18 years old and while still in school. By 23, she had dropped out of college to pursue her business full time. </p><p>Elious kept her overhead low by sharpening her design skills through YouTube videos and hours of practice at the family computer. Her first projects included creating Myspace pages for reality TV stars of shows like "For The Love of Ray J" and "Real Chance of Love," whose managers reached out to Elious after she promoted her services on the platform. As her business grew, she began to work with female entrepreneurs and nonprofits to help build their online brands through web and graphic design and photography. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table center"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>But in the six years she spent creating beautiful visuals for these clients, she realized many business owners were struggling with the meat and potatoes of their brands. </p><p>"People were investing in pretty design but didn't know how to communicate the value of their business. When they would hire me for their website, it was always a struggle to get copy and photos from them. They would ask me for advice on writing their bio, blog, and social content, and I realized I had a gift for messaging," Elious explained. </p><p>Clients recognized Elious' knack for branding and started asking to pick her brain, so she began offering paid business consultation calls in addition to web and graphic design help. After she booked her first consulting client, she ran with it. </p><p>"I said, 'Okay, I'm really going to make this a thing.' And then as I did it more, I learned how I should package and frame my calls so that my clients could get the best results," she explained.</p><h1>Finding her niche and upping the quality of her clientele through trial and error</h1><p>Today, Elious is backed by a small but mighty team that includes an assistant, a graphic designer, and an accountant, and she's got a bulletproof strategy that has allowed her to generate a steadily growing bottom line and create hundreds of success stories for women in a broad range of industries - including fertility counseling, finance coaching, therapy, life coaching, natural hair products, and cannabis - all around the world.</p><p>Specifically, Elious teaches her clients how to identify their skill set and niche down to stand out in saturated markets; determine the audiences they're best qualified to help; choose the services they can sell to those audiences; and create content that fosters organic relationships and trust with their target markets. </p><p>While it might seem like Elious' business blew up overnight, she attributed most of her success to trial and error. She also noted that starting young gave her a distinct advantage in being able to experiment with her business model because, outside of her student loans, she was able to keep her personal expenses low by either living at home or with a roommate. The money she saved, she funneled back into her business, investing in a new desktop and laptop, courses, software, and conferences.</p><p>It took her several attempts to find the best way to package and deliver her branding and messaging expertise. </p><p>"I've launched many offerings over the years: courses, masterclasses, live events, group coaching programs, monthly memberships, one-on-one coaching, and an agency model," Elious said. </p><p>While having that many products and services did pull in decent revenue, Elious noted that the wide range of offerings made people uncertain of what services and products they should purchase from her. The amount of work she had to do to keep up with the demand her broad service list created also left her overworked and burnt out. That entrepreneurial fatigue, paired with ongoing health issues, made it challenging for Elious to consistently give her clients her best work. </p><p>So, she made a commitment to be clear and specific about what she does and who she does it for, and honored that commitment by assessing her offerings to determine which ones got her clients the best results and, on the advice of her accountant, she examined the financial metrics to see which offerings had the best ROI. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table center"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></p><p>Elious settled on two primary offers: a signature event called "<a href="https://builttoimpact.com/">Impact Weekend</a>," an intimate two-day mastermind event for female entrepreneurs who want to package their message and personal brand into a successful business, and an accelerator program called "<a href="https://www.mayaelious.com/built-to-impact-accelerator/">Built to Impact</a>" that offers clients a six-week curriculum to design and launch a signature offer. "Impact Weekend" tickets cost $2,500, while "Built to Impact" registrants pay $5,000 for the program. Each year, Elious also offers five one-on-one VIP Days where, for $5,000, clients get to spend a full day with her in Atlanta to map out their brand and business. </p><p>While this sort of minimalism might seem counterintuitive, Elious said that it was the ticket to her earning growth. "Approximately 97% of my revenue in 2019 has been from my signature live event and accelerator program," Elious explained. "Doing less and charging more made me more money, attracted better clients, and resulted in better outcomes for my clients."</p><p>Elious raised her rates steadily over time, earning those high-ticket prices based on the excellent results she had created for her clients, her growing visibility online and offline as a trusted business consultant, and the endorsement of long-time clients, colleagues, and notable publications like Forbes, Huffington Post, and Black Enterprise.  </p><p>Today, her clients consist of women who come to the table with proven expertise and the motivation to use her advice and apply it to grow their knowledge and message into successful businesses. For Elious, this is a matter of protecting one of her core values: integrity. "The internet is full of frauds and I want to make sure I only help honest people put out their best work," Elious clarified.</p><p>That kind of specificity was key to Elious' marketing strategy when she made the shift from a broad range of products to her high-earning services. "In 2019, I invited clients privately to work with me and had people apply to come to the mastermind. My marketing was very 'exclusive and intimate.' There was a vetting process to work with me," she said. </p><p>The proof of Elious' approach is in the numbers. In August of 2018, she had earned $13,607; in August 2019, she brought in $45,503 - a whopping 234% increase. That kind of explosive growth has been consistent over the last three years as she catapulted from $89,000 in annual earnings in 2017 to more than $250,000 this year. </p><h1>Ask for opportunity, don't wait for it to come to you</h1><p>Elious is brimming with advice for other entrepreneurs eager for similar results. Before anything else, she encouraged business owners to get clarity on their brand and goals. Winging it, she warned, just isn't good enough. </p><p>"If we were clearer and more confident about what we wanted at the end of the week, month, or quarter, and who we're supposed to be talking to, it would create that consistency and momentum to actually hit our goals," she suggested.</p><p>She also recommended that entrepreneurs be unafraid to narrow their niche. Elious has been very careful to consistently <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/mayaminute/">create content</a> around her expertise. While she understands that some people fear leaving money on the table or seeming less smart and capable, she's found that narrowing your niche has the opposite effect. </p><p>"I've been talking about personal branding, impact messaging, and storytelling for years, and I'm consistently paid and interviewed for those topics. [Narrowing your niche] isn't limiting yourself. It's just targeting the opportunities you want," she explained.</p><p>But it's not enough to just target the opportunities, Elious cautioned. She said entrepreneurs must be brave enough to ask for them. </p><p>"A lot of the opportunities I have are because I invited myself," she recalled. This includes her recent keynote for <a href="https://conference.convertkit.com/archive-2018">ConvertKit's Craft + Commerce conference</a>, which she landed after emailing the organization last year to let them know she wanted to speak. While their speakers for the 2018 conference were already booked, Elious was top of mind for the 2019 event. "So, I'm not only talking about the same things consistently. I'm letting people know that I'm available to be used in these areas of expertise."</p><p>Of course, Elious recognized that none of that hard work pays off if entrepreneurs are afraid to charge their worth, and it's especially challenging for women in business. She recommended that women ditch the taboo around discussing finances and have candid conversations around money with other entrepreneurs in their circle. </p><p>"I think if we just had more open conversations and safe spaces about how much we make, how much we want to charge, what that looks like, and how to ask for it, then it would be easier for us to actually envision ourselves doing that," she said. </p>

Hire the right people. (Hint: It's not A++ players.)</h1><p>While I don't have full-time employees, I do work with a small but mighty team of contractors. And my "secret" for hiring the right people goes against the grain of a lot of the common advice on hiring. </p><p>I didn't look for traditional A++ players who are driven and want to be a "superstar" or climb the corporate ladder. Because my business doesn't have one. </p><p>Instead, I looked for A players who had different priorities. Don't get me wrong: The people I hired were self-motivated, experienced, and good at what they did. However, they get satisfaction not out of having a certain title or team size, but out of earning a great income and having a flexible lifestyle themselves.</p><h1>2. Streamline your product lineup</h1><p>Over the last five years one core product, a course called "Employee to Entrepreneur," has brought in over 80% of my business revenue. </p><p>And it didn't happen by accident. With my goals and priorities in mind, I designed my business around this product from day one. </p><p>That allowed me to systematize my business in a few ways.</p><p>I was able to focus on building, testing, and improving the course over many years to make sure it was truly robust and best in class.</p><p>I was also able to drive a higher volume of students into the course, which allowed me to build more content and coaching calls, as well as a bigger community to support the course and make it self-sustaining.</p><p>Finally, because of how long we've been selling this product, my customer support knows it inside out and is well versed in handling questions and delivering the best client support possible.</p><p>As a result, instead of constantly scrambling to create and deliver new products, we've been able to build a robust system that supports our community, delivers great customer service, and offers a top-notch product, and then live our lives.</p><p>We do sell other courses and offers, and while we have similar delivery, customer support, and sales systems (more on this in a bit) set up for them, they're mainly designed to complement our main offering.</p><p>This doesn't mean that we have all of our eggs in one basket. Instead of diversifying our product offerings, we've instead diversified our traffic sources and partnerships, which I felt was easier to do (because we have systems for those as well) and more enjoyable than constantly creating new products.</p><h1>3. Systematize, systematize, systematize</h1><p>If no business can occur when you're not working, then you don't really have a business. That's why even though my business is branded around my name, it doesn't rely on any one person (me included). Instead, it runs on a series of systems.</p><p>Here are the five main categories of systems that my business runs on: </p><ul><li>Marketing (which consists of content, design, and client acquisition, including paid traffic, partnerships, social media, and organic traffic)</li><li>Sales</li><li>Operations (for example, customer support)</li><li>Coaching</li><li>Finance</li></ul><p>Our content creation process is one example of what I mean by a system.  </p><p>With the goal of creating content to drive organic traffic, we publish one to two blog posts a month. So we have a documented, step-by-step system for determining how to choose the blog topic, guidelines, and format and how to write the content, publish it, and promote it. </p><p>We have similar documentation and processes for every piece of the business, from setting up an email to send to my email list to helping a client reset their course membership site password.</p><p>This way, independent of who specifically is and isn't working on a particular day, the business can continue to run smoothly.</p><h1>4. Have a clear accountability layout </h1><p>This tip is taken from Gino Wickman's book, "<a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007QWLLV2/">Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business</a>." When I first read this a few years ago, it was a huge "aha" moment for me.</p><p>Wickman suggests that instead of having an organization chart, which focuses on who reports to whom, it's better to have an accountability chart, which lays out what each person is individually accountable for. This way, it's clear who is responsible for what and there's no "passing the buck."</p><p>Here's a quick overview of what my main accountability structure looks like:</p><ul><li>Within marketing, individual contractors are responsible for content, paid advertising, partnerships, and design.</li><li>Within sales, I have contracted salespeople.</li><li>Within operations, a few contractors are accountable for customer support and technology.</li><li>Within coaching, I personally coach a small group of clients, and I have program coaches for my Employee to Entrepreneur program.</li><li>And last but definitely not least, within finance I have a bookkeeper, accountant, and payment collections team.</li></ul><p>Note that the accountability structure supports the systems I laid out in the previous step. In other words, this is system-centric: I hired the right people to support the systems. I didn't first hire and then create systems around the people I hired.</p><p>What's also important to note is that each role has clear processes and metrics for success. And it's not complicated! For example, customer support's number-one metric is to help clients resolve their questions within 24 business hours. </p><p>This way, we're able to operate like a well-run machine. Because we have the right systems, which create the right roles and the right people in those roles. </p><p>As a result of all the above, my contractors mostly only work a few hours a week for my business. And I don't have to spend much time managing them, either. </p><p>Plus, this also frees up my time to focus on driving the business via partnerships and strategy, and of course supporting my coaching clients.</p><p>As you can imagine, it took a lot of work upfront to set all of this up. (And it's still a work in progress because there's always room for improvement and we aren't perfect.) But the work was well worth it. It helped me build an amazing business that I love, that allows me to do what I love, work with people (contractors and clients) I love working with, and live a life that I love.</p><p>And here's the thing: After having helped thousands of people do something similar for themselves in so many different industries, what I've seen time and time again is that if you're willing to put in the work, you can do it, too.</p><p><em>Luisa Zhou is the creator of the Employee to Entrepreneur system, which teaches people how to leave their day job and start their own six-figure-plus business working for themselves.
