Micromax is all new and fresh. India’s number 2 smartphone brand unveiled its new logo and tagline and also launched 15 new smartphones to consolidate its market presence. 
 
Micromax 3.0 with the brand philosophy ‘Nuts: Guts: Glory’ said it wanted to become the first Indian company to have over 100 million connected devices by end of 2017. 
 
Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax Informatics said, “We are proud to be the first Indian brand to be in the top 10 brands globally and today we embark on our journey to be amongst the top 5 players in the world. We want to make Micromax, the largest services company in India, consolidate our leadership position in overseas markets we are present as well as enter new markets.” 
 
It launched 15 new smartphones including Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro, two 4G tablets and LED televisions. 
 
The Micromax priced Canvas 6 at Rs 13,999. 
 
"We would also continue to invest in different service categories which interest our consumers to create a strong ecosystem within our brand for the most compelling and seamless experience," said Sharma. 
 
The open sale of the flagships will begin on April 20. The Canvas 6 will come with a finger print scanner, full metal body, 3GB RAM, and 32 GB storage space, which will be expandable. 
 
Meanwhile, Canvas 6 Pro will be backed by 4G RAM and run on a Helio processor.

Micromax is going for the kill to be numero uno, unveils new logo with 15 new smartphones

The smartphone runs on 1.7 Ghz octa core <keyword id="6369515" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mediatek">MediaTek</keyword> chipset along with 2GB of RAM. There is 8GB of internal storage available on the smartphone, which can be expanded by up to 64GB. 
 The Micromax Canvas Nitro A310 runs on <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> 4.4 (KitKat). It is powered by a 2,500mAh battery. On the camera front, it has a 13MP Sony camera with f/2.2 aperture and 5MP fixed focus front camera. 
 
The connectivity options on the Micromax Canvas A310 include, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.The Micromax Canvas Nitro A310 comes with Oleophobic coating, and has a fingerprint layer. The smartphone is available in two color variants – white and blue. 
 
Priced at Rs 12,990, the Micromax Canvas Nitro A310 will be available through Snapdeal. With this smartphone Micromax Canvas Nitro will be competing head on with the Moto G (2nd Gen), Asus ZenFone 5 and Xiaomi Mi3. 
 
On paper, it looks like an interesting value for money offering from Micromax but wait for our full review to know whether you should be buying it or not.

It’s a riot in India’s burgeoning <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Shekhar+Sharma">smartphone</a> market. Chinese <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Shekhar+Sharma">smartphone</a> brands have turned it on its head forever. A recent IDC study revealed the top 5 Indian cities make up approximately 60% of the online <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=smartphone+sales">smartphone sales</a>. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Samsung">Samsung</a> came at the top in leading 30 Indian cities.  While the numbers suggest the chaos is limited to the metros and tier I cities, tier II and III cities are expected to play a major role in the near future. At a time when the <keyword id="28168" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Smartphone">smartphone</keyword> market is growing 18% YoY and constitutes 40% of the 250 million units shipped to India, the dusty road is where the market lies. 
 
Business Insider sat down with the India Heads of two big bad boys in this war - <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coolpad">Coolpad</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> to understand where this battle’s headed, and if there will ever be peace. 
 
What’s Changed – Everything 
The Chinese influx started way back in 2015. They saw an opportunity in the affordable smartphone market. Cut to 2016, that’s gone for good. Now, they’re up against home-grown brands like Micromax and Lava. Basically what Micromax did to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Nokia">Nokia</a> years ago? Marketing brands like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> have locked horns with the likes of <keyword id="13722" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Lenovo">Lenovo</keyword> and Motorola. The former doesn’t even have a brand ambassador in India! 
 Newer Chinese brands like <keyword id="1731609" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oppo">Oppo</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> are kicking serious ass too. They’re bringing in the money power of their rich Chinese dads, but considering ROI on investment, it’s very difficult to sustain their current models due to stiff competition. 
 Remember, back in the days <keyword id="35621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="e-commerce">e-commerce</keyword> players were offering subsidies to host online sales. After 2016, only the manufacturer will have advantage as the Flipkarts, Snapdeals and Amazons of India will not offer too much in discounts, and this will reduce cost-efficiency in business models. 
 
There are two options now - go offline with huge marketing investment, or stay online with a cost-effective model. 
 “There will be challenges in manufacturing and marketing”, <keyword id="3093045" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Syed-Tajuddin">Syed Tajuddin</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coolpad">Coolpad</a> India Head accepts. 
 
By the end of 2016, most marketing brands will find it difficult to sustain. They’ll burn most of their liquidity. That’s where direct manufacturers come into the picture with long term goals. They will have extreme control on their supply-chains. 
 
Online Vs. Offline Game 
As the numbers suggest, Indian metros and Tier I cities already have mass online penetration. Till now, most Chinese brands weren’t even interested to look beyond, but are now being forced to because of the tax complications state governments have set up. Entering the offline market also means being cowed down by heavy investment for retailers and distributors. 
 
“Offline will remain and prosper. The only thing that might happen is that the offline sales in Metros might slip a bit into online”, Syed agrees. 
 Offline brands like <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>, Lenovo and Micromax that still have a huge portion of the offline market, need to check inflation. You ask why? 
 
Because brands like Oppo have brought some of their Chinese distributors to India. These brands will give a tough time standing up to Indian brands, and it’s only a matter of time before Samsung feels some heat in its collar too. 
 
Rather than investing and promoting on the marketing front, brands like Micromax have to focus on improving their product’s value proposition. If you’ve noticed, Micromax hasn’t spent a fortune on advertising since the Sliver 5. 
 
Believe it or not, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> and Oppo are going into Tier II and Tier III cities, and holding small marketing campaigns there. Earlier the distributor drove sales, now it’s the brand. Indian brands are not able to cope up here. 
 
 “Just an online strategy will only help reach a certain consumer-base. We’re planning t have our own stores and offline distribution very soon. Half of our business in Feb came from the non-metros and non-Tier I cities”, Atul tells me. 
 
To reduce, or not to reduce – Price, that’s the question! 
In a day and age where the average life of a smartphone is down to less than a year in India, is there any chance of the price war cooling down anytime soon? 
 
“Around 30% customers, basically the young crowd will continue to focus on hardware vs. price. The high-end market will have an eye for aesthetics, and would prefer to have a look and feel”, Syed says. 
 “You have to be present offline to ensure you get the bigger consumer-base. We’ll launch into offline in the next 3-4 months”, <keyword id="350911" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Atul-Jain">Atul Jain</keyword>, India Head, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> says. 
 
If the hardware craze is limited to tier I and metros, does it matter if a phone is priced at Rs. 10k, Rs. 9,999 or Rs. 9,990? 
 
“It doesn’t matter. Price is just one component. The consumer decision is based on at least 6 factors like design, availability, battery and price. Consumers could be sensitive to pricing, and as manufacturers we’ve to take that into account”, Atul says. 
 
Do Flash Sales Work? 
 
Both <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coolpad">Coolpad</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> agree flash sales can be used as a tool to drive initial volume. Brands with constraint in delivery in the first phase chose that model. By the time they catch up in terms of numbers, they open it for all. That was typically in a month or two. 
 
However, Indians are now wary of waiting. They have options. Micromax’s Yu brand previously did flash sales for over 3-4 months. Now their flash sales don’t last that long. 
 
Basically, two quarters on, there will be lesser flash sales. 
 
Increasing Market Share 
So how do you increase market share in a market overcrowded with fiery competition that’s baying for your blood? 
 
For one, the era of marketing is over. You have to significantly control costs. Supply chain will become the foremost focus, R&amp;D comes second. Ones you have R&amp;D, you can experiment, and the supply chain will help reduce cost. 
 
“We’re setting up a global R&amp;D centre in Bangalore that’ll work on software and screen technologies”, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> India Head says. 
 
In case you don’t live under a rock you must have noticed there are two segments for every ‘new’ smartphone brand, a regular model, with exceptional value proposition, and a flagship segment with high-end specs. 
 
“We’re coming up with a flagship soon. However, we’re very skeptical about marketing. Marketing gimmicks never work”, Syed says. 
 
Offline Prices 
Price and specs have been the biggest weapons for newer brands launching in India. The notion is that when you set up an offline distribution network, prices go up. That’s what happened with Samsung, and other brands too. However, if the prices are higher offline, it’s not fair to the consumer. 
 
“The distribution cost is what gets added when a product goes offline. That’s built into the overall costing”, Atul winks. 
 
Differentiation: 
So how do you create differentiation? It continues to be quality at affordable price. Atul let me in on a secret. They’re actually at a loss on a per device basis. 
 “We’re an ecosystem company unlike Samsung, <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword> or Oppo, and can sell the <keyword id="310615" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Le">Le</keyword> 1S at Rs. 10,999 even when the industry pegs the cost of production at Rs. 16k. We can ensure that pricing because of our large volume in China and India, and don’t believe in making profits from hardware”, Atul says. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> is perfectly fine with the loss. 
 
“For us phones are just screen, we have a 650 CDN networks of which 10 are in India. Nobody has that. It helps deliver content”, Atul says. 
 
The plan is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> will churn content to earn that money back. Atul say that way the company can also monetize second hand phones. To conclude, they think they’ll win because they make it, and don’t just market it. 
 
“That’s the difference between us and marketing brands. We’ve been manufacturing in China for the last 24 years”, Syed boasts.

The Future of India’s Smartphone Price War: LeEco and
Coolpad let us in on their trade secrets

<keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword> would offer <keyword id="2858438" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="translation-and-transliteration">translation and transliteration</keyword> with 10, 000 apps in local languages for the first time in India to attract more customers. It would use a patented <keyword id="2858439" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Swipe-Technology">Swipe Technology</keyword> from MoFirst Solutions to do the translation works in 10 languages, including Hindi to English and vice-versa. 
 The leading homegrown handset maker Micromax would also provide access to <keyword id="2223587" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="App-Bazaar">App Bazaar</keyword> with such apps. 
 
Moreover, the App Bazaar has some of the most accepted apps such as Skype and Clean Master and several others in 10 local languages, including Tamil and Marathi, which cover 800 million people in India. 
 
The handset maker would provide service in association with Mo-First's Android-based regional language operating system Firstouch. 
"We're confident that about 80 to 100 million new users will come on board the smartphone market in India. Which is why for us, getting the language piece right is very critical," Micromax's chief marketing officer Shubhajit Sen told the Economic Times, confirming the tie-up. 
 India's No. 2 handset maker Micromax wanted to establish itself in the country’s crowded market as its market share is declining compared to <keyword id="1048921" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="chinese-smartphones">Chinese smartphones</keyword> in recent months. 
 
Micromax's Canvas Unite 3, which was launched this month priced Rs 6,999, has Firstouch's local language suite, targeting millions of people using smartphones who aren't comfortable with English. 
 
"The Unite 3 is a very strategic model for us where we're going a step ahead with translation and transliteration. We're going to work with them across all our phones for the language support, going forward," Sen told the financial daily. 
 
Micromax has established linkages with Microsoft, Gameloft, EA Games, Disney, Zapak and Sony Music to increase the number of apps. 
Micromax will begin a 360-degree advertising campaign in this month to promote the device. The device is available on ecommerce websites Snapdeal and Flipkart between Rs 6,700 and Rs 7,100. 
 
The home-bred handset maker had a 15.3 per cent share of the smartphone market at the end of March, as per Counterpoint Research, a sharp decline from 19.5 per cent in the previous quarter. 
 
MoFirst, which abandoned its own move to sell smartphones, is now working with an approach of making smartphone vendors partners rather than competing with them, in such a competitive market. 
 
Chinese smartphone makers such as Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, Gionee and the latest Meizu are offering highend devices at very competitive prices, adding to the competition from local vendors such as Lava, Intex and Karbonn.

Micromax is making its biggest bet yet in India. Is it worth
the risk?

At a press conference in New Delhi, <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> unveiled the first series of <keyword id="2373897" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Android-One">Android One</keyword> smartphones in India. Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President for <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword>, Chrome and Apps at Google was there as he was at the Google I/O developer event earlier this year, announcing the Android One initiative to bring a rich Android experience to affordable smartphones. 
 
Android One 
The vision of Android One is to bring stock Android with timely software updates to sub-$100 smartphones. Essentially, it’s Nexus for the masses. 
 
In an aberration from the usual course and like the Nexus and Google Play Edition products, Google will push the Android updates as and when they come instead of the OEMs. The devices will be automatically updated; the box of an Android` One device asserts ‘Always the latest version of Android’. 
 
The Android One devices will include support for seven additional languages including Hindi and users will not have to download any external application to access their Android One smartphones in Hindi. 
 
Devices 
The smartphone vendors that Google has partnered with for the first wave of devices in India are Micromax, Karbonn, and Spice; three OEMs who lead the market in the budget smartphone segment. 
 The three devices announced are <keyword id="6378177" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Spice">Spice</keyword> Dream UNO Mi-498, Micromax Canvas A1, and Karbonn Sparkle V. The Spice Dream UNO and Micromax Canvas A1 are available in black and white, while the Karbonn Sparkle V is available in blue, grey, red, and white colors. 
 
As was announced at the Google I/O event, these smartphones come with a 4.5-inch IPS display (480x854), dual SIM card slots, microSD card slot, and FM radio. Essentially, these three are same devices internally, which just differ in design and build. 
 Packing in a 1.3 GHz quad-core <keyword id="6369515" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mediatek">MediaTek</keyword> processor and 1 GB RAM, these devices include 4 GB of internal storage and a 1700mAh battery. The phones feature a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. 
 
Pricing 
The only bullet point of the pitch that the Android One smartphones don’t keep up to is the promise of sub-$100 smartphones. In a competitive, and crowded, price segment, the devices are priced starting at ₹6399. It wasn’t a bad price at the start of this year, but now it will disappoint most. 
 There’s <keyword id="11148" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Motorola">Motorola</keyword>’s Moto E with stock Android and timely updates, which is sold at similar price-point with better hardware specifications. And the latest disruptor on the block, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S takes the crown with great specifications, although running an Android fork. 
 Google has tied up with <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> for special data plans for Android One smartphones. Airtel customers get free access to Google services like operating system and software updates. Also, all customers get 200MB worth of apps per month for six months at no cost. 
 
Availability 
The Android One smartphones will be exclusively sold via online retails immediately, and interestingly Google has picked up three leading online retailers for three devices. Since the devices are pretty much the same, you could also make a decision based on your preference for a particular online store. 
 The Micromax Canvas A1 would be available on <keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword>, the Spice Dream UNO will be available on Flipkart, and the Karbonn Sparkle V will be available on Snapdeal. Google has also announced that before the festive season of Diwali next month, the devices will also be available in brick and mortar stores. 
 
What’s Next 
Android One is a big bet for Google in India, and the region is clearly the ground zero for the initiative. Google plans to expand Android One to Indonesia, Philippines, and other South Asian countries by the end of 2014 and in more countries in 2015. In India, more devices will follow in coming months in price bands above and below the latest range. 
 At the event, Google also announced the next set of partners for the Android One initiative. Wammy Neo Youth comes in a five inch form factor with HD display and packs the 1.7 GHz octa-core processor from Mediatek that comes in Micromax Canvas Knight and HTC’s recently launched Desire 616 smartphones. The said chipset is clubbed with a 1 GB RAM, offering 8 GB storage and expandable up to 64 GB. 
 
The imaging prowess on the Wammy Youth is facilitated by 13 MP rear and 5 MP front cameras. However, it comes with only 2,200 mAh battery that might prove to be the reason for the phone’s downfall. NEW DELHI: Sony has overtaken ace rival Apple to emerge the second largest smartphone brand in India in value sales, thanks largely to its strategy to focus on the Rs 10,000-20,000 smartphone space, backed by Rs 300-crore marketing spend. 
 According to latest data from market tracker IDC, the Japanese electronics major garnered 9.1% value share in the Indian smartphone market in the October-December quarter of 2013 against Apple's 7% share. <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> dominated the market with 43% value share. 
 IDC India <keyword id="157228" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="senior-market-analyst">senior market analyst</keyword> Manasi Yadav said Sony's strong positioning in the mid-tier smartphone space of Rs 10,000-20,000 price band has delivered results for the company. “Some of the top selling models for Sony are Xperia M Dual and Xperia C priced in this bracket, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian smartphone market,” Yadav said. 
 The CEO of a leading mobility device retail chain said Apple lost out since it withdrew its largest selling model, <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword>4, from India as a global decision thereby vacating the sweet spot ofRs 20,000 pricing. “While this loss of sales prompted Apple to relaunch iPhone 4 once again in India in January, sales have not picked up since it is not at all spending on marketing or offering any buyback offer and even the initial euphoria around iPhone 5s has sobered down,” the person said. 
 Analysts, however, said Sony’s share in the smartphone market may have slid in the January-March quarter, with <keyword id="6354716" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Nokia">Nokia</keyword> venturing into <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> phones with its aggressively priced X series, Apple relaunching iPhone 4 and Micromax rolling out a new range of Canvas phones. IDC will release its figures for the January-March quarter in May or June. 
 India is one of the rare markets outside Japan where Sony has achieved major success in the smartphones. <keyword id="1107282" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kenichiro-Hibi">Kenichiro Hibi</keyword>, managing director at <keyword id="233026" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sony-India">Sony India</keyword>, said the company's smartphone business has attained similar revenues as its flagship television business in the fiscal ended March 31. The two businesses contributed around 70% to the company's turnover of about Rs 10,000 crore during the year. 
 
“However, smartphone business will overtake television business in sales this fiscal year,” Hibi told ET. “For us, both television and smartphone will be the main pillars to continue the pace of growth in India,” he said. 
 
Hibi said the company is poised to further grow its share this fiscal with flagship Xperia Z2 ready for launch this quarter. “The smartphone business doubled in last one year which led to 20% growth in overall sales in 2013-14. We expect to grow at a similar pace this fiscal as well to touch Rs 12,000 crore sales,” he said. 
 Indian brands such as Micromax, Karbonn and Lava have notched up significant share in the smartphone volume sales. While Samsung had 38% <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> by unit sales in the October-December quarter, Micromax is second with 13% share. Sony's volume share was 5.5% while Apple's was 2%.

After some teething problems like the not-so-exciting deals in the first year and the site crashing for a day in 2013, the Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) finally had a great time sailing this year. To mark the beginning of GOSF this year, <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> and its partners started pre-party celebrations (from Dec 9) and launched contests, games and surprise gifts. This, obviously, was Google’s well-thought and well-timed strategy to build ample anticipation around India’s biggest shopping gala. With a patronage of more than 450 partners, <keyword id="2622320" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="GOSF-2014">GOSF 2014</keyword> had set the stage for a never-seen-before shopping frenzy. However, all was not rosy during these ‘72 hours of crazy’ shopping. Like all things colossal, this extravaganza, too, was marred with some snags.

HIT: No Speed-breakers Ahead 
Of all Internet errors, the ‘500 internal server error’ is the most annoying and most common. But, despite experiencing more than twice their usual traffic, most GOSF partner websites successfully run during the sale without going offline even for a minute. This year, both Google and the merchant sites were well-prepared to stand steady under the sheer weight of massive numbers, thus giving shoppers a bump-free ride. 
 
HIT: The Rs 299 Corner 
 
This unassuming offer won the highest number of fans for GOSF 2014. Be it fashion apparels, shoes, watches, soft toys, sunglasses, cookware, home décor items, kitchen appliances, almost everything was up for grabs at this small sum. However, the modesty of price did not translate to humble goods. The products on offer in this section were vast in quality, quantity as well as range. Coming from known brands and trustworthy merchants, goods from this corner were seized in big numbers, far and wide. 
 
HIT: The Great Social Media Buzz 
Google made optimal use of the micro-blogging site Twitter during the run-up to GOSF 2014 as well as during the main event. It encouraged word-of-mouth publicity with various Twitter contests, which eventually led to shoppers sharing their experiences and discussing deals of GOSF 2014. #72HoursOfCrazy and #GOSFWithSnapdeal were the most trending GOSF related hashtags on day 1, while the former had become the 5th most trending topic worldwide on day 3. 
 
HIT: Small Merchants, Big Show 
The rule of the jungle did not apply here. Relatively smaller and lesser known merchants put up an equally strong show against the much familiar giants. Paytm, Limeroad, Zovi, Yepme, Justeat, Foodpanda and Trendin were some of the underlings who turned out to be the dark horses in this Derby of discounts. While Paytm won the day with its fat cashback offers, Limeroad took the cake away with its Buy One Get One offer across all categories. In short, customers got a wider variety to choose from this GOSF. 
 
HIT: Online Real Estate Arrives 
Who would have thought that the erstwhile apprehensive Indian buyer, who found it hard to trust the virtual space even with its most trivial shopping requirements, could be lured in to investing in real estate online? According to reports, Tata Housing received around 10,000 bookings and a Bangalore-based real estate developer, Purvankara booked 125 homes on the first day itself. The numbers were beyond the wildest dreams of both GOSF as well as of the realty partners. GOSF 2014 certainly succeeded in asserting the online presence of the Indian real estate category. 
 
MISS: No Flipkart 
 
India’s big shopping festival felt so incomplete without Flipkart. The latter’s loyalists would have surely missed its absence sorely, thereby dampening their enthusiasm for GOSF 2014. True that Flipkart launched its own Big App Shopping Days for them, but it did miss out on the greater bulk of customers, who still prefer making online purchases on desktops and laptops. This one was a miss for GOSF, Flipkart and the consumers, alike. 
 
MISS: Mobile phone deals, less than wow 
Although statistics indicate that mobile phones and tablets were the most popular products in GOSF 2014, the discounts on these were less exciting than expected. The ones that were truly mind-blowing lasted for about a few hours, and in some cases, only a few minutes. Some of the craziest deals on mobile phones were: iPhone 6 at Rs 26,750 on Shopclues, Micromax Canvas A1 at Rs 5,999 on Amazon India and some lesser-known mobile phones at Rs 299 on Shopclues. 
 
MISS: Weekend Shoppers 
Like every year, GOSF arrived on a Wednesday this year, too. Although it lasted for a good three days, it was over before the weekend began. While this is obviously because the online shopping arena witnesses a surge in traffic during weekdays, Google misses out on the weekend shoppers every year.
