<ul class="summary-list"><li>One fighter slapped another at a pre-fight weigh-in event in Las Vegas on Friday.</li><li>The <keyword id="992778" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="UFC">UFC</keyword> president <keyword id="1358348" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dana-White">Dana White</keyword>, who was between the two athletes, is blaming himself for letting it happen.</li><li>At a post-event press conference, White said he is getting too old and reacted too late even though both guys were acting aggressively toward one another.</li><li><keyword id="9888062" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="zelim-imadaev">Zelim Imadaev</keyword> and <keyword id="9888061" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="michel-pereira">Michel Pereira</keyword> fight for real at the UFC Vegas 9 event on Saturday.</li></ul><p>A Russian fighter slapped his opponent at a weigh-in ceremony on Friday.</p><p>It all went down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Up until that point, everything seemed like it was going to plan. Fighters had made weight and would face-off against one another for the customary stare-down ahead of the behind-closed-doors UFC Vegas 9 event on Saturday.</p><p>But then Zelim Imadaev and Michel Pereira stepped onto the dais and things took a spicy turn when Pereira appeared to feint a head-butt at Imadaev.</p><p>In response, Imadaev raised his left hand and struck Pereira around the face with an open-palm strike.</p><p>The UFC president Dana White then intervened, separating the welterweights, before security officials held back the fighters who continued making threatening gestures at one another.</p><p><strong>Watch it here:</strong></p><p>"I'm getting old," <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3J59uJH-RU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White told the media at a post-event press conference</a>. "I'm getting old, guys. That was a quick one. That was on me.</p><p>"They started getting aggressive going toward each other but I didn't think it would escalate to that, that quickly. And I blew it."</p><p>White said it would be up to the Nevada State Athletic Commission whether either or both fighters face sanctions.</p><p>"You'll never meet more irritable human beings than these guys right now," White said. "They're all ready to fight. This is the fight game, man.</p><p>"This one's on me. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Teak tough <keyword id="13997613" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="holly-holm" source="Orion">Holly Holm</keyword> survived a second-round submission attempt that made her face red.</li><li>Holm lasted the five-round distance but protested the result when her opponent was named as winner.</li></ul><p>LAS VEGAS — <keyword id="13997614" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ketlen-vieira" source="Orion">Ketlen Vieira</keyword> looked like she was squeezing <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/holly-holm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Holly Holm</a> with a rear-naked choke that was so tight the American's face was reddening by the second.</p><p>It is a testament to Holm's toughness that she was able to gut it out let alone escape the second-round submission attempt before surviving the full five rounds of a <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/ufc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UFC</a> bantamweight fight Saturday at the Apex in Las Vegas.</p><p>Holm didn't look comfortable at all in the second round, but fought commendably for the rest of a fight that was difficult to score.</p><p>Holm landed 188 of her 263 total strikes — significantly more than Vieira's 122 from 190, though the Brazilian scored more damage, including a brilliant spinning elbow, and secured a takedown from her seven attempts.</p><p>The second-round chokehold was no doubt the main talking point of the actual match, but that highlight was overshadowed by narrow scores which yielded a controversial win for Vieira.</p><p>It was a win Holm immediately pushed back on during her post-fight interview.</p><p>"I thought I won the fight," said Holm. "I gave her round two, and I feel like I won all the rest of the rounds. I always feel like I can do more and be more perfect, but I thought I won the fight. I don't feel like it was a question."</p><p>Vieira, meanwhile, believes the judges may have looked at Holm's tactics in a negative light.</p><p>"I came here to knock her down," Vieira said. "She came here to stall. She's the 'Preacher's Daughter,' but I had the glory of God here."</p><p>Added Vieira: "She's a great boxer, and because of that my camp was planned for me to actually grab onto her.</p><p>"But she came [to grapple] tonight and that was confusing to us. A 25-year-old Brazilian made his UFC debut on Saturday, and won praise for his button-bashing PlayStation style victory

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="10278402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="khaos-williams">Khaos Williams</keyword>, one of MMA's top prospects, returns to the <keyword id="992778" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="UFC">UFC</keyword> Octagon on Saturday.</li><li>The American made his UFC debut at the start of the year, won a $50,000 performance bonus because he knocked his opponent out so stunningly, and then won another check last month for another quick-fire KO.</li><li>His rise has attracted the attention of two of MMA's most influential people — the UFC commentator Joe Rogan and the UFC President Dana White.</li><li>Williams told Insider about the year he's had, another welterweight super prospect called Khamzat Chimaev, and his goal of winning the UFC championship.</li></ul><p>America's "most vicious" knockout artist, Khaos Williams, said he'd be honored to be named MMA's prospect of the year but is only focused on the UFC championship.</p><p>Williams talked to Insider this week before returning to the Octagon against Michel Pereira at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday.</p><p>It will be the fighter's third match of the year, having annihilated Alex Morono 27 seconds into his UFC debut, ahead of a 30-second win against Abdul Razak Alhassan last month.</p><p>In those two bouts, Williams has been hit just three times.</p><p>"It's been the best for me, career-wise," Williams said of his breakout year in combat <keyword id="6356028" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sports">sports</keyword>. "That's for real, man, and this is only the beginning because I never admire my work, and it's only going to get better and better."</p><p>Williams' rise in the UFC means victory this weekend, against an experienced opponent like Pereira, could see the 26-year-old become MMA's prospect of the year - beating unbeaten phenom Khamzat Chimaev to that status.</p><p>It's been quite a journey for Williams, who got his first taste of knockouts in 2008 when he floored another teenager in a street-fight and shook hands afterward.</p><p>"I think I was 14 the first time I knocked somebody out. It was out on the street. I knew the dude, somebody I was having little problems with, but there was no trouble after that - it was just mutual respect."</p><h2>Respect is something Williams has a lot of now</h2><div type="image" title="joe rogan debate" height="1363" width="1817" msid="79785808" hostid="261"></div><p>Though Williams had fought nine times before signing a deal with the UFC, it was not until this year when he attracted praise from some of the most influential people in the business.</p><p>After bulldozing through Morono at the UFC 247 event in Texas, February, <a href="https://www.insider.com/video-khaos-williams-kod-opponent-27-seconds-into-ufc-debut-2020-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the UFC commentator Joe Rogan said</a>: "That's how you make a UFC debut, ladies and gentlemen," saying the win was "outstanding."</p><p>Then, after sleeping Alhassan with one punch, <a href="https://www.insider.com/watch-khaos-williams-score-30-second-knockout-in-ufc-2020-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the UFC President Dana White said the knockout</a> was "one of the most vicious KOs" he'd ever seen in his life.</p><p>"Man, between both of those GOATs in the game, you know, being around 20+ years … it's just amazing to hear that praise," Williams told Insider.</p><p>"I've been telling people what kind of fighter I am, and now I'm finally making a name for myself in the business.</p><p>"I got the attention and the right people watching me now, I got the world watching me now, and I've got to continue to be great from Saturday."</p><p>After his most recent win, <a href="https://www.insider.com/khaos-williams-warns-his-division-nobody-is-bulletproof-2020-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Williams warned the welterweight division that nobody is "bulletproof"</a> and that he'll knock everybody out in his weight class.</p><p>"My power is God-given talent," he told us. And what I mean by bullet-proof is we all bleed the same."</p><h2>Williams could become MMA's prospect of the year</h2><div type="image" title="Khaos Williams UFC striker" height="1403" width="2000" msid="79785809" hostid="261"></div><p>"I've seen that possibility," Williams said when Insider asked if he was aware a third win this weekend could see him surpass Chimaev as the favorite to be MMA's prospect of the year.</p><p>"I look it like this, we're in the major leagues [in the UFC]," he said.</p><p>"It's definitely a great accomplishment and a blessing. That's like the defensive player of the year or an MVP - that's great. I don't want to downplay that.</p><p>"But it's like going for the NBA championship. We want the UFC championship one day - that's what's most important.</p><p>"We're looking at the small things, but also looking at that big thing. And hey, if they want to give me some extra money, a $50,000 bonus, I'm all for that, too."</p><p>Williams and Chimaev both compete in the same 170-pound weight class. So could we see a battle of super welterweight prospects in 2021?</p><p>"This is the thing," Williams said. "I'm not really looking at nobody, I'm not looking past anybody, but I'm looking through everybody.</p><p>"I'm focused on me being the best me I can be, and whatever happens, happens. If that's what's supposed to happen, that's what happens.</p><p>"I'm not taking the time to focus on anybody but perfecting my craft. They've got to focus on me."</p><p>On what aspects of his fighting style he wants to perfect the most in upcoming training camps, Williams said: "Just to continue chiseling at my craft, continuing to progress every day.</p><p>"Every day's a potential day for progress, and I just want to keep getting better as far as my striking, strength, speed, IQ, my jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and everything goes.</p><p>"I'm a well-rounded fighter and want to keep honing all those things so I can not only get to that championship level but win a championship and keep that championship."</p><h2>Williams is confident he beats everybody at 170-pounds</h2><div type="image" title="Khaos Williams UFC debut" height="1334" width="2000" msid="79785810" hostid="261"></div><p>"I feel confident against anybody," Williams told us. "If you get in there with me, you feel you can beat me, and I'm going to show you otherwise.</p><p>"I'm just so excited to keep chiseling away at my destiny and making history because I'm just getting started, for real. Michel Pereira is just another man in the way," he said of his UFC Fight Night 183 bout in Vegas.</p><p>Williams has earned additional $50,000 performance-related bonus checks in both UFC outings to date, and a third check for a knockout win this weekend "would be a great Christmas" in his household.</p><p>"But I just want to go in there and get the W [win]. If I do it in extraordinary fashion and knock him out, that's what happens.</p><p>"But I've got to go in there, be technical, and take my time - that's the way it's going to be. I adapt to anybody, adapt to the fight, and feed off his energy."</p><p>Williams mentioned his ultimate ambition in ultimate fighting is the UFC title but was reluctant to give a precise timeframe of when he hopes to secure a title fight.</p><p>"It all depends on how I beat this guy Saturday," he said. "I just take it one win at a time. I never want to downplay nothing.</p><p>"It might be a year, two years, three - I ain't rushing. <h3>This person told Jobs he would "ruin" <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword>.</h3>
<p><em>Michell Smith tells this story:</em> Prior to his return to Apple, it was obvious that the company was in trouble. Larry Ellison had floated the idea of a hostile takeover of the company, but it seemed to some of us Apple watchers that then-CEO Gil Amelio's turnaround plan might work.</p>
<p>I wrote an impassioned email to Steve at Pixar, pleading with him to find something else to do with his time. <p>Jack Heringer was a childhood friend of Jobs from early 1960s, but they parted company when they went to different middle schools. Then, in 1976, they met in a store: <br /><br />He showed up, recognized me and called me over. "Aren't you Jack Heringer from grammar school?" he asked. And, in that millisecond, my life's single most regretful experience occurred. I replied, " Yes that's me...and WHO ARE YOU?" I pretended I didn't remember him at all.</p>
<p>I have been kicking myself forever since!!!!!!!!!</p>
<h3>Jobs met this woman who was smoking at dinner and did not like it one bit.</h3>
<p><em>William Matthies and five others had dinner with Jobs in the early 1980s in New York:</em> Dinner was over and while we waited for desert, Ann lit up a cigarette (remember this was the early '80's in NYC), holding it away and blowing smoke away from the rest of us at the table. Steve, who was seated next to Ann, gave no indication that this bothered him. He simply went on talking animatedly as he had all dinner.</p>
<p>At one point Ann put her lit cigarette in an ashtray the opposite side of Steve. He never looked at it but must have seen her put it down because without so much as a glance toward her or the cigarette, without breaking from whatever topic he was currently holding forth on at that moment, he reached across her, <a href="http://www.quora.com/Steve-Jobs/What-are-the-best-stories-about-people-randomly-meeting-Steve-Jobs/answer/William-Matthies">picked the cigarette up from the ashtray, and dropped it in her half full water glass</a>.</p>
<p>I can still see the stunned looks on everyone's face except Steve who continued to educate the rest of us on...I have no idea.</p>

<p>Roy Pereira bumped into Jobs while doing the groceries:</p>
<p>I bumped into Steve at the Palo Alto Whole Foods near both of our homes.  He was in front of me in line paying for his groceries. It was the express checkout and he was wearing his traditional black turtle-neck. This was back in the early 2000s.</p>
<p>Here was a very wealthy, smart guy <a href="http://www.quora.com/Steve-Jobs/What-are-the-best-stories-about-people-randomly-meeting-Steve-Jobs/answer/Roy-Pereira">arguing with the cashier about what the correct change was</a> for his purchase. He was demanding that he got another quarter ($0.25) for his change. This discussion went on for several minutes and held up the line so much that everyone behind him (including us) were getting annoyed.</p>
<h3>The time Jobs got excited by Excel in 1985.</h3>
<p><em>Randall Edwards met Jobs at an IT conference:</em> I had to get back to work so I headed out of the hotel into a nearby hotel where my car was parked.  I pressed the button for the elevator, the doors opened and there was ... Steve Jobs!</p>
<p>I told him how much I enjoyed his presentation and shook his hand. He asked me what I did and I told him I was an IT Consultant. <a href="http://www.quora.com/Steve-Jobs/What-are-the-best-stories-about-people-randomly-meeting-Steve-Jobs/answer/Randall-Edwards">He told me about this amazing software that Microsoft was working on called "Excel"</a>.  It is going to be phenomenal and that I should check it out. I told him I would.</p>

I introduced myself and mentioned that a couple of the engineers were ex-Apple people. ...</p>
<p>For the next half an hour he went on to rant pretty much non-stop... about the arrogance of Apple (!!!), the quality of their products, and anything unsavory you could think of. There were a lot of 'you Apple people' in there. I tried to break in and mention that we weren't really related to Apple (except  the demo was running on a Mac Powerbook) but there was no stopping him.</p>

<p>… Then he comes back in. I was sitting down. He gets in front of the whiteboard and starts drawing notes. For the next I-don't-know-how-long he mapped out precisely how the product could be rolled out, the strategy for taking it to market, how it should be positioned, what other parts would be needed to fill in the gaps, all the way down to the features that should be taken out or added. It was the most amazing, useful, spot-on, and entertaining display of product management erudition I'd ever seen. He completely understood the product, the space, and what it could be used for.</p>
<h3>The day Jobs visited a rival electronics store across the street from Apple in 2007</h3>
<p><em>Mark Young remembers Jobs' appearance at the Helio store in 2007, located in Palo Alto across street from the Apple Store. Jobs had poked his head in once and the store staff did not recognize him:</em> Two weeks later, the same manager was inside the store giving a demo of the amazing Helio smartphone to some prospective customers when he was interrupted by someone at the door. It was the same guy in the black turtleneck and blue jeans. <p>The manager was visibly annoyed and said to his customers "Who is this guy and who the hell does he think he is???"</p>

<p>... The car didn't start. ... Steve said something like "piece of shit" as he got out, and walked back into the house. Classic Steve - he was right.</p>
<h3>Jobs used this guy's fan mail in at an iPad product demo.</h3>
<p>Chaitanya Pandit wrote jobs an email: I went home and before going to bed wrote a short email to Steve about how <a href="http://www.quora.com/Steve-Jobs/What-are-the-best-stories-about-people-randomly-meeting-Steve-Jobs/answer/Chaitanya-Pandit">an iPad got a girl interested in me</a> and almost forgot about it until. ... Days later, it was his WWDC keynote and I was following a few live blogs that night as I always do (I was GMT +5:30), then suddenly I saw something that was very familiar, it was my email that Steve displayed on the huge screen behind him. He said "It is magical, I know it because I got this email: I was sitting in a café with my iPad, and it got a girl interested in me!." "So there's proof."</p>

<p>Matt McCoy couldn't get any joy out of Apple customer service when his MacBook wouldn't work properly, so he randomly emailed Jobs: The next day I got a call from Palo Alto.</p>
<p>Me: "Hello?"</p>

<p>Caller: "I'm going to pass you on to my assistant, and he's going to take care of you from here. We'll get you taken care of. Hold."</p>
<p>Then the call was transferred to a guy named "Tim". I'm still not sure what Tim's last name was... is it even possible that it was Tim Cook? I don't know what Tim's history is at Apple.</p>
<h3>The day Jobs ate unrecognized at an Indian restaurant.</h3>
<p><em>Anurag Wadehra was at the restaurant:</em> So, it was with great amusement, we watched Steve raise his hand several times to attract the attention of the waiter, who summarily ignored him. As the only white guy in the restaurant, we thought he would be instantly recognized and served with special attention. Instead, <a href="http://www.quora.com/Steve-Jobs/What-are-the-best-stories-about-people-randomly-meeting-Steve-Jobs/answer/Anurag-Wadehra">he had the worst table in the house</a>. A bored waiter passed plastic menu cards at his family without giving a second glance. Eventually, he did get served with the mass efficiency of an overworked staff. And, no one bothered him during his dinner either.</p>
<p>My wife and I observed in awe as Steve and his family enjoyed a quiet meal in the riotous, inexpensive place in the heart of Silicon Valley. It dawned on us that no one in the restaurant had recognized Steve in his low key attire and a stubble. At the end, when no one came to his table to present the check, Steve rose up, dropped a few cash notes on the table and walked out, as the server wiped his table.</p>
<p>Just then, the manager walked by, and I asked him, "Did you know that was Steve Jobs?". He smiled and gave me the Indian head shake - a cross between yes and no. To this day, I don't know what he meant.</p>
<h3><div class="image-container float_right"><div class="image"><p class="source">REUTERS</p></div></div>The day Jobs met a recruiter for Sun Microsystems.<br /><em></em></h3>
<p><em>Bill Lee:</em> In 1988, I was self-employed as a recruiter and had referred a number of candidates to Steve at NeXT Computer, which he subsequently hired. I had also worked at Sun Microsystems as a contract recruiter. In September of that year, Steve invited me to his offices on Deer Creek Road in Palo Alto for an informal interview. He was 45 minutes late. As soon as Steve led me into his office and closed the door, he turned and said, "<a href="http://www.quora.com/Steve-Jobs/What-are-the-best-stories-about-people-randomly-meeting-Steve-Jobs/answer/Bill-Lee-13">You recruited for Sun and Sun hires shitty people</a>."</p>

<p><em>Phillip Remaker recalls:</em> When I was at the University of Pennsylvania in 1989, some sales folks from NeXT did a demo of the NeXT Cube to some students at the Distributed Systems Lab.  I noted on their business cards that NeXT email addresses were of the form firtname_lastname@next.com. With better food people stay on campus and interact with each other more."</p>
<h3>The day Jobs was nearly killed in the parking lot at Apple.</h3>

He may or may not have jogged out of harm's way at that point, while we may or may not have just sat there, stunned.  We may or may not have switched drivers for the rest of our training week out there.</p>
<h3>This couple asked Jobs to settle a bet over how the Macintosh was named.</h3>
<p><em>Bill Sheppard's wife had long maintained the name came from a contest for school students:</em> We approached Steve and asked if he could settle a marital dispute for us.  Without any hint of a smile he responded "if I can have one of your children" (which didn't come across at all creepy, though I see as I write this that it could be interpreted that way).  We offered the dog (he wasn't interested), then my wife told the story of the naming contest.
