Yesterday the world was severely attacked by cyber criminals. The toll was massive. Right from hospitals to airports, telecom to computer systems of around 100 countries suffered badly. And all this happened without any symptoms. <br /><br /> As per news reports, 102 computer systems of <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> police were hacked. The malware reportedly halted production at a <keyword id="3040423" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nissan-Renault-Alliance">Nissan-Renault Alliance</keyword> plant on the outskirts of Chennai, but the company did not comment on the issue.<br /> <br /> According to a TOI news report, this cyber attack was carried out using a malware called Wanna Decryptor or WannaCry. This is a "ransomware", a digital extortion system that locks down systems by encrypting the data on it, only to decrypt and release it back for a ransom amount. <br /><br /> Indian ATMs run on <keyword id="6354717" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Windows">Windows</keyword> XP, which has been discontinued by <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> long back. And when this kind of attack happens there is no return as even Microsoft has no support available. <br /><br /> <keyword id="4530279" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="michael-gillespie">Michael Gillespie</keyword>, who runs ID Ransomware, a free website that helps victims of ransomware identify malware and work around encrypted data, said he got an unusually high number of submissions from India since Friday which he diagnosed as WannaCry ."I've received about 24 submissions since yesterday that were identified as WannaCryptor and came from IPs based in India. I'd say that's pretty low compared to other countries, but pretty high for submissions from India," he told TOI over email, pointing out that his stats only cover those who upload to the website and are not indicative of the total number of victims.<br /> <br /> <br /><br />  <br /><br />

It said he died with his family around him but did not give a location or a cause of death.</p><p>The performer, whose real name was Michael Lee Aday, was known for his best-selling album "Bat Out of Hell" and for acting in films including "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Fight Club."</p><p>"Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side," the statement said. "Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours."</p><p>The statement said he sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.</p><p>"We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time," the statement said. "From his heart to your souls…don't ever stop rocking!"</p><p>Meat Loaf was born Marvin Lee Aday in 1947 in Dallas. He later changed his first name to Michael.</p><p>His <keyword id="11896019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="entertainment" source="Orion">entertainment</keyword> career began when he moved to Los Angeles in 1967, where he started a band called Meat Loaf Soul. He landed a part in the musical "Hair," eventually making it to Broadway in 1973. Meat Loaf was later cast in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," playing Eddie and Dr. Everett Scott. He reprised the role of Eddie in the film version of the show.</p><p>In 1977, he released his album "Bat Out of Hell" to enormous success.</p><p>He married Leslie G. Edmonds in 1978 and divorced in 2001. In 2007, he married Deborah Gillespie.</p><p>Meat Loaf had spoken publicly about health issues that affected his career. During a 2018 <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/the-sound-and-the-fury-of-meat-loaf-i-am-not-a-rock-star-201874/">interview with Rolling Stone</a>, the singer said he wasn't sure whether he would ever make another album or tour again because of his health problems.</p><p>The rock star was known to have asthma. In 2016, he collapsed onstage during a concert in Edmonton, Alberta. The incident was <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-36557269">filmed by a fan</a> in the audience. And in 2011, Meat Loaf collapsed during a concert performance in Pittsburgh. He received treatment onstage from medics and got back up to finish the show.</p><p>Tributes have been paid to the rock star from the world of entertainment. The singer Cher shared her memories of performing alongside Meat Loaf.</p><p>"Had So Much Fun With Meatloaf When We Did 'Dead Ringer,'" Cher tweeted. "Am Very Sorry For His Family, Friends,&amp; Fans. Am I imagining It, or Are Amazing Ppl In The Arts Dying every other Day."</p><p>The British writer and broadcaster Stephen Fry paid tribute to Meat Loaf in a series of tweets describing him as "frightening and cuddly."</p>

It turns out that is due to where they come from, the tiny and unique Scottish island of Ailsa Craig, better known as the beautiful backdrop island for the Ailsa Course at Turnberry, the Scottish golf course owned by President Donald Trump. Turnberry has hosted the Open Championship four times, most recently in 2009.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Maddie Meyer/Getty Images</span></p></div><p></p></div></div><a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/winter-olympics/26253664" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According to the BBC</a>, the granite used in all curling stones comes from one of two places, the island of Ailsa Craig or a quarry in Wales. For the Olympics, all stones are made from the Ailsa Craig granite.</p><p>The birth of the 220-acre island island was a bit of a perfect storm that led to something extremely rare - granite smooth enough to be predictable on ice and strong enough to withstand banging into other large and heavy stones.</p><p><span><a href="https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/from-scottish-magma-to-sochi-ice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Easter of Scientific American</a> described what makes the stone so special:</span></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">The stones' performance traces back to the island's formation about 60 million years ago. Ailsa Craig is a volcanic intrusion-a mass of magma that forced its way up between existing formations-explains John Faithfull, a geologist at the University of Glasgow. The magma then cooled relatively quickly to form granite, and the surrounding rock eroded away, "leaving just the very resistant hard mass of Ailsa Craig poking up out of the water," Faithfull says.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">As the volcanic rock crystallized, it developed a strong, uniform surface. "When magma cools quickly, it creates very small crystals. These ones interlocked, and chemical bonds developed between them," says Martin Gillespie, a geologist at the British Geological Survey. "It also doesn't seem to have any microcracks," he says of the granite.</p><p><span>This led to the formation of three types of granite on the island, two of which are used to make curling stones. Blue hone granite makes up the layer of the stone that glides on ice and common green granite is used for the middle layer that strikes other stones.</span></p><p><span>"The layer of rock that runs along the ice doesn't chip or absorb water, but most important, it's very predictable on ice - you know what your shots are going to do," U.S. women's team skipper Erika Brown told Scientific American. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Metal 'Make America Great Again' available for sale at the Conservative Political Action Conference.</p></div><p></p></div></div>NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. - The "Stand With Rand" shirts were out, and the "Make America Great Again" were in among the younger crowd at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference.</p><p>Libertarians, who normally make up the loudest and most vocal faction at the annual nationwide gathering of conservatives, had a noticeably diminished presence at the 2017 political confab.</p><p>"I think it's disheartening," said Michael Hall, a spokesperson for Students for Liberty. "I'd like to see more libertarians here."</p><p>In previous years, armies of supporters swarmed the conference halls championing Sen. Rand Paul - and formerly Ron Paul - as the future of the Republican Party. These attendees argued that an embrace of libertarianism would usher in a wave of youth support and rescue the GOP from assured death.</p><p>But, after President Donald Trump's surprise November victory, the CPAC program conspicuously changed, underscoring nationalistic ideals while tepidly moving away from principles of small government that were popular among conservatives during President Barack Obama's eight years in office.</p><p>The ideological shift at the conference aligned with the dominance of a new populist strain that took hold of the Republican Party in the 2016 campaign.</p><p>Matt Kibbe, president of Free the People, a nonprofit organization that promotes libertarian principles, said this year's agenda and lineup of speakers may, in part, explain the lack of libertarians present.</p><p>"I was shocked when I looked at the schedule and, except for Ted Cruz, there are no liberty Republicans on the stage," he said. "There's no Rand Paul, obviously there's no Ron Paul - but there's no Justin Amash, there's no Thomas Massie, there's no Mike Lee."</p><p>"So maybe part of the reason the liberty youth is not here is there is no liberty on the stage," he added. "It's very much driven by Trumpism and nationalism."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Alex Wong/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">President Donald Trump addresses the Conservative Political Action Conference.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Nick Gillespie, editor-in-chief of the libertarian Reason magazine, agreed, contending that the American Conservative Union, the organization that hosts CPAC, had "started squeezing out" those who believed in libertarian ideals.</p><p>"During the Obama years, Paul pere et fils were the only ones offering a serous critique of mainstream Republicanism, which the party recognizes is drifting," he said an email. "Trump's victory, however narrow, allows the GOP regulars to go about their business as if nothing is wrong."</p><p>Matt Schlapp, chairman of the ACU, denied suggestions CPAC had abounded libertarianism, insisting in a brief interview that it was a "very big and important part of the conference."</p><p>Asked if he sensed a smaller libertarian presence from previous years, Schlapp replied, "No, not at all."</p><p>Yet, despite his claims, Students for Liberty was perhaps the only libertarian-minded youth organization advocating for libertarian ideals at CPAC. Other groups, like Young Americans for Liberty, chose to forego the conference this year.</p><p>Cliff Maloney, president of YAL, said his group's purpose in the past has primarily been to "deliver a win for liberty minded folks in the CPAC straw poll" and that with Trump in the White House, influencing the straw poll would not achieve much.</p><p>"I'm interested if it makes sense for us to be there, if the straw poll matters," Maloney said, pushing back against the idea that YAL aimed to make a statement by skipping this year's conference.</p><p>Others also rejected the idea that the sizable decrease in numbers was reflective of how popular libertarianism is more broadly among the American people.</p><p>"Rand isn't there and we have a newly elected president who is," said Doug Stafford, who served as chief strategist for Paul's 2016 presidential bid. "I don't find this at all mysterious or any indicator of the broader fight for liberty."</p><p>Still, the absence of a vocal faction of libertarians left many attendees disappointed and dismayed.
