The report noted that despite contributing only 6.5 per cent of Hyundai's global revenue and 8 per cent of its overall profitability, the Indian unit is expected to be valued at approximately 42 per cent of the parent company's market capitalization upon listing. This valuation discrepancy raises concerns about whether the IPO price is justified given the Indian unit's relatively modest contribution to Hyundai's global business. From Hyundai's perspective, the move makes sense. In South Korea, Hyundai's stock currently trades at a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of just 5x, making the sale in India potentially more lucrative. The report argues that Hyundai is looking to take advantage of the relatively higher valuations in India. It said "From Hyundai's perspective it's a no-brainer as their stock in S.Korea trades at a measly 5x P/E" Hyundai Motor Group, which includes both Hyundai and Kia, is the third-largest automaker globally, having sold 7.3 million vehicles in 2023. While the allotment will be finalised on October 18, the shares will be listed on the stock exchange on October 22. At the upper end of the price band, Hyundai Motor India will be valued at $18 billion (approx. ₹1.6 lakh crore), which is around 40% of its parent company, Hyundai Global’s $45 billion valuation. As it is entirely an OFS, the company won’t receive any funds and all the funds raised will go to Hyundai Global. However, the company has said that part of the funds will be allocated towards research and development, especially in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid technologies. The company has reserved 7.78 lakh shares with a value of ₹131 to ₹138 crore for employees. In an exclusive interaction with ANI Skoda Auto Brand Director Petr Janeba says Skoda's European bestseller, the Enyaq EV, was initially slated for an Indian debut this year but postponed to next year for an updated version. Janeba says a significant facelift planned for the model in March has led the company to hold off until the new version, featuring Skoda's latest design language, is ready. He said, "We have one of the best-selling EVs in Europe our European Enyaq. The car was tested, and the car was prepared for India. We have actually stopped bringing the car this year. Because there will be a huge facelift of the Skoda Enyaq coming in March following the new design language." He added, "We actually can choose one of the three EV cars coming to India or all three." Skoda is closely monitoring India's changing EV policies, especially the CAFE3 (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) norms set to be introduced in April 2027. On further investment in India Janeba highlighted the importance of a consistent regulatory environment, as state-level EV and hybrid tax policies currently vary widely, impacting long-term planning. "And within this plan, we understand nobody can survive in India without having a deeper localised CKD EV in India. We are ready for this. We are ready in Pune to make another investment for the car and for the production to get it. At the end of the day, we still take our time in order to decide the right measure car for the market, seeing the new competitors coming on the EVs." Said Janeba Skoda already has two manufacturing units in India, in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Pune. EVs are planned to be manufactured in their Pune plant For the production, he stated, "In the same factory in Pune, Chakan we will be producing EVs. Currently we have increased because of the Kylaq the production capacity in Pune to 250,000 units a year and we will be increasing further once it is needed either for the current cars because of the export or because of the Indian demand or for the new cars like EVs." The facility is also set to support EV production with deep localisation efforts to make Skoda's electric lineup more affordable for Indian consumers. Piyush Arora, India CEO, Skoda Auto echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that Skoda's expanded product offerings will capture the growing sub-four-meter SUV segment, a category that represents nearly 30 per cent of India's automotive market. "With the new Kodiaq and other upcoming models, we are aiming for a 5 per cent market share in the medium term," he added. Skoda's commitment to India extends beyond manufacturing. Arora highlighted the company's investment in local engineering talent and its dealer and supplier networks. "Our technical centre in India plays a crucial role in developing products like the Kodiaq, which was fully designed in India," he noted, calling it a testament to India's engineering prowess and the company's long-term vision for the region. Meanwhile, Swiggy has been busy implementing several notable changes across its operations, probably to gear up for its IPO. From changing leadership to expanding Instamart’s reach, let us take a look some changes implemented by Swiggy in the last few months. <h2>Leadership overhaul </h2> One of the most significant shifts has been at <keyword id="19939135" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swiggy-Instamart" source="keywords">Swiggy Instamart</keyword>, the company's quick commerce arm. Swiggy appointed <keyword id="22954620" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitesh-Jha" source="keywords">Amitesh Jha</keyword>, a seasoned executive from Flipkart, as the new CEO of Instamart last month. This move marks the third leadership change for Instamart in just 18 months. As part of this transition, Phani Kishan, the outgoing head of Instamart, was announced to take on a broader role within Swiggy, overseeing the Central Growth unit and working closely with co-founder Sriharsha Majety on new initiatives. <h2>Expanding Instamart’s reach </h2> Swiggy Instamart has also been on an expansion spree, recently launching in 11 new cities across India, including Rajkot, Thrissur, and Kanpur. This expansion marks a strategic push into Tier 2 and 3 cities, broadening its customer base beyond metropolitan areas. The platform, which offers delivery of daily essentials in just 10 minutes, also said in a press release that it has seen encouraging results in these new locations. In Mangalore, for example, a new store achieved 1,000 orders in a single day faster than many larger cities. This localised approach, featuring partnerships with regional vendors, has enhanced Instamart’s appeal and efficiency in serving diverse customer needs. "Users across India already recognise the convenience Swiggy provides," Amitesh Jha said in a press release and added, "The enthusiastic demand from smaller towns and cities has been incredibly encouraging. Our expansion into these new locations marks a significant milestone, allowing even more people to experience the ease of having thousands of products—from everyday essentials to electronics and toys—delivered in just 10 minutes from both national and local brands." <h2>Changes in management </h2> Swiggy has also made notable changes in its management team recently. Himavant Srikrishna Kurnala, previously with Reliance Retail’s JioMart, was appointed as the head of product for Instamart earlier this year. His appointment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the team ahead of the IPO. Other key hires include Mayank Rajvaidya, who has been named vice president of fruits and vegetables, and Manu Sasidharan, who joined as associate vice president of the FMCG category. These additions come in the wake of several high-profile departures from the company, signalling a recalibration of Swiggy’s leadership structure. <h2>Policy changes for restaurant partners </h2> Swiggy’s founder recently revealed that the decade-old startup partners with over 3 lakh restaurants today. In a move to standardise its service fees, Swiggy extended its gross value service fee policy to restaurants in non-metro areas. This change, effective from August 14, involves charging a service fee on the gross value of orders, including GST and packaging fees. This adjustment was expected to lead to an increased commission for restaurant partners in smaller towns and cities. The policy shift aligns with the fees already applicable to restaurants in larger urban areas and reflects Swiggy’s efforts to streamline its revenue model. <h2>Converting into a public limited company </h2> To facilitate its upcoming IPO, Swiggy also transitioned from a private limited company to a public limited company. Shares of the company may open at a discounted price as indicated by weak grey market price and volatile market conditions. The Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed company received a moderate interest from investors as it was subscribed just 3.64 times. “We are seeing a change in IPO [initial public offering] sentiment amid a slight decline in the market, and the last two debutants witnessed profit bookings post-listing, as well we are seeing a decline in the GMP [grey market price] for upcoming IPOs. We may see a discount listing of Metro Brands given that its GMP trades at a discount of 10-15% currently,” said Aayush Agrawal, senior analyst at Swastika Investmart. Analysts at Angel One also expect a weak listing for Metro Brand’s stock, but they hold a positive stance for the long term investment. “On the listing day, we are expecting a slightly weak listing due to the company already commanding higher valuation and fear of [the] new COVID variant omicron (will increase the possibility of lockdown). However, we are positive on stock for the long term on the back of asset light business, strong brands and wide range of products,” said Amarjeet Maurya, assistant vice president – mid caps at Angel One. Also, the company’s financial performance in FY21 was not very great due to COVID-19 restrictions in the country that affected the entire footwear retailing segment. Its revenue from operations declined by 37.75% in FY21.
