Mercedes Benz, the luxury car maker from Germany has rolled out an all new E-Class 220d sedan in the Indian marker, with a price tag of Rs 57.14 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). <br /><br /> Other than the luxury vehicle, it has also launched a new four-cylinder diesel engine, OM 654, which has been assembled at the <keyword id="25952" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mercedes-Benz">Mercedes-Benz</keyword> Chakan facility in Pune. <br /><br /> After the success of previous variants, the E350d diesel and the E 200 petrol, the new E 220d has been launched keeping in mind the 'unprecedented' demand of the long wheelbase E-Class, said a company statement.<br /><br /> "With the launch of the much-awaited E 220 d, we are now extending the E-Class product portfolio even further and making it highly versatile," <keyword id="184004" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mercedes-Benz-India">Mercedes-Benz India</keyword> managing director and CEO <keyword id="2981742" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Roland-Folger">Roland Folger</keyword> said.<br /><br />(Image source SpeedMonkey)<br />

New Mercedes Benz E-Class launched for Rs 57.14 lakh

Mumbai, Mar 3 () Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday rolled out GLC Coupe, making it the 10th model from its Pune assembly line.<p>The all new GLC Coupe comes in two variants -- 300d 4Matic diesel and 300 4Matic petrol powered by BS-VI engines -- and are priced at Rs 62.70 lakh, and Rs 63.70 lakh, respectively, (National price, barring Kerala, where there is a higher duty structure now), the company said in a statement.</p><p>With this, Mercedes-Benz offers the largest SUV portfolio in the luxury car segment with eight models.</p><p>The GLC 300d Coupe is powered by BS-VI 4-cylinder diesel engine that can race to 0-100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds, while GLC 300 Coupe petrol engine offers a torque of 0-100km/h in just 6.3 seconds.</p><p>Launching the new car, Martin Schwenk, managing director &amp; chief executive of Mercedes-Benz India expressed that it will further enhance the popularity of the SUV Coupe.</p><p>Piyush Arora, executive director, operations, said that adding the 10th model to the locally assembly line reiterates the highest level of refinement and implementation of advanced technology and flexible processes that ensure our production quality conforms to the most stringent global standards.</p><p>"Going forward, we will strive to introduce more locally value added vehicles depending on future market dynamics and growth," he added.</p><p>The German car major has the largest manufacturing plant among all the luxury carmakers in the country with a 20,000 units per annum capacity. The company entered the country in 1994 and set up Chakan plant in 2009, spread over 100 acres and has invested more than Rs 2,200 crore.</p><p>Its India portfolio comprises the locally-produced Maybach S 560, S-Class, E-Class long wheelbase, C-Class and the GLA, GLC, long wheelbase GLE, G350d SUVs and GLC Coupe.</p>Mercedes retained its market leadership for the fifth year in a row in 2019, selling 13,786 units, which was down around 12 per cent over 2018. Merc rolls out GLC Coupe; 10th model from Pune plant

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The <keyword id="12030256" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="mercedes-benz" source="Orion">Mercedes-Benz</keyword> EQS, the automaker's answer to the <keyword id="11984779" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tesla-model-s" source="Orion">Tesla Model S</keyword>, hits dealerships soon. </li><li>It starts at around $103,000, but fancier trims cost upward of $126,000. </li><li>Here's how it compares to the Model S in terms of range, pricing, performance, and more. </li></ul><p>For years, the <keyword id="11900744" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tesla" source="Orion">Tesla</keyword> Model S was the only option for dentists and other deep-pocketed folks in the market for a fancy electric sedan. Not anymore.</p><p>Today that premium electric car segment is getting increasingly crowded. The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/porsche-taycan-4s-review-0-60-price-range-ev-electric-2020-11">Porsche Taycan</a> has been a hit. Its cousin, the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ev-first-drive-audi-e-tron-gt-electric-sedan-2021-5">Audi E-Tron GT</a>, went on sale earlier this year. And the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lucid-just-hit-520-miles-range-ev-drivers-only-need-300-2021-9">Air</a>, the first vehicle from startup Lucid, should be coming soon. </p><p>Now Mercedes-Benz, luxury-sedan royalty, is joining the party with a battery-powered version of its flagship S Class. It's called the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-eqs-ev-debut-price-range-specs-interior-2021-4">EQS</a>, and it hits dealerships later in 2021. </p><p>Here's how it stacks up on paper to its biggest rival, the Model S:</p><h2>Range and charging</h2><p>Mercedes says the EQS is rated for up to 487 miles of range according to the more liberal European standard for testing EVs. The US Environmental Protection Agency will likely place it somewhere closer to 400 miles.</p><div type="image" title="Mercedes EQS" height="1251" width="2000" msid="86465801" hostid="261"></div><p>The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cost-breakdown-buying-guide-2021-3">Model S Long Range</a> can travel 405 miles on a full battery, according to the EPA. The more expensive, high-performance Model S Plaid gets an official rating of 396 miles. </p><p>Both the EQS and Model S can <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-ev-electric-car-ford-mach-e-road-trip-charging-problems-2021-9">add battery range very quickly</a>, faster than many EVs on sale today. The Model S can charge at a rate of 250 kw, meaning it can add 200 miles of range in around 15 minutes. The EQS tops out at 200 kw and claims to absorb 186 miles worth of energy in the same time span.</p><h2>Performance</h2><p>The Model S is wickedly quick in its base form, promising a 0-60-mph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-s-plaid-drag-race-hayabusa-ninja-motorcycles-2021-9">Model S Plaid</a> steps things up several notches. It delivers a rated 1,020 horsepower from three motors and claims to hit 60 mph in under two seconds, placing it firmly in supercar territory. </p><div type="image" title="Tesla Model S Plaid sedan" height="1316" width="1755" msid="86465802" hostid="261"></div><p>The EQS 450+ promises to crank out 328 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. The 580 4Matic boasts 516 horsepower and a whopping 631 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration is accordingly snappy at 4.1 seconds to 60 mph.  </p><h2>Interior</h2><p>Tesla was the first to use a giant touchscreen instead of manual buttons. Other automakers have taken that idea and run with it. </p><div type="image" title="Mercedes EQS" height="1125" width="2000" msid="86465804" hostid="261"></div><p>The latest Model S sports a large landscape-oriented touchscreen in the middle, along with two smaller displays: one in front of the driver and one for the rear passengers. The EQS 580 gets a positively massive "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-eqs-ev-mbux-hyperscreen-massive-56-inch-electric-vehicle-2021-1">Hyperscreen</a>" that stretches the width of the dash. It's actually one large screen flanked by two smaller ones. </p><p>The EQS 450+ comes with a comparatively modest 12.8-inch display but can be optioned with the aforementioned 56-incher. </p><p>Overall, the sedans' interiors are nothing alike. Inside, the EQS isn't sparse or minimal like Teslas are. Instead, it's filled with the wood accents, quilted leather, and glittering buttons you'd expect in a flagship Merc. </p><h2>Price</h2><p>The EQS, Mercedes announced Tuesday, will start at $103,360, making it cheaper than the base gas-powered S Class. That's for the EQS 450+ Premium model. I'll spare you all the confounding model names in the middle of the pack, and note that the top-of-the-line EQS 580 4Matic Pinnacle starts at just over $126,000. </p><p>The base price of the Model S changes regularly, but right now it's $90,000. The Plaid edition, the quickest production car you can buy, starts at $130,000. </p><p>One advantage of buying the EQS: It's still eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit for new-EV purchases, unlike Tesla. </p>

Both these engines are mated to 8-speed automatic transmission. The 3.8-litre V6 variant offers also all-wheel-drive (AWD) system as optional.<br />

On the insides, the biggest talking points of the Hyundai Genesis are the 9.2-inch high definition touch screen interface and the 17-speaker Lexicon audio setup.<br />

While Hyundai as been very vague on the pricing front, we estimate the 3.8-litre variant to be priced at an estimated Rs 45 lakhs. Anything above this, and the price-sensitive Indian rather drive a Merc, BMW, Audi or Jaguar.<br />

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Carlos Barria</span></p><p class="caption">Buy certified pre-owned and be OK with overpaying.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Young people are often advised to spend a relatively meager amount of money on their cars and are often discouraged from taking out longer-term loans.</li><li>That's bad advice - it's better to buy a high-quality certified pre-owned vehicle, pay if off on whatever schedule works for your budget, and keep it for 20 years.</li><li>One of the only ways to get financial benefits from a depreciating, yet necessary asset like a car is to buy once and own forever.</li></ul><p><br />It simply isn't true that millennials don't want to buy cars. Some members of this financially embattled generation might live in urban areas where car ownership isn't required. But plenty of others live in places where a car is a necessity.</p><p>At the moment, there's considerable fretting about the US auto market, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/auto-loan-delinquency-record-from-ny-fed-recession-worry-overblown-2019-2">much of it pointless</a>. Sales have been running at high levels, historically, since 2015, and the average cost of a new vehicle has been ticking up.</p><p>But that's due to more large SUV and pickup trucks being sold - big-ticket rides that many younger people aren't interested in.</p><p>Still, financial experts routinely recommend that millennials avoid buying more car than their station suggests they should, and they advise against taking out a longer-term loan. In the past, the typical new-car loan was five years, but as prices have moved north, six- and seven-year terms have become more prevalent.</p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/auto-loan-delinquency-record-from-ny-fed-recession-worry-overblown-2019-2">Everyone is suddenly worried out about the soaring number of Americans who are falling behind on their auto loans - but the freak-out makes no sense</a></em></p><p>The received wisdom, then, is for people in their 20s and early 30s to buy a fairly inexpensive, mass-market car, favoring used over new. Classic, right? Get a used Honda Civic. Pay less than $20,000. Do not finance it for more than five years.</p><p>I've been buying and selling cars for decades, and after giving the current situation some serious thought, I think the conventional wisdom is terrible.</p><h2>Here's why you should ignore the "good" advice</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Mercedes</span></p><p class="caption">A Mercedes E-Class sedan.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The best deal for a millennial looking to buy a car, however, runs counter to "good" advice" - and required a pretty heavy duty commitment. But in the end, it should pay off, and I wish I had done in when I was younger (I say having worked my way through about ten vehicles). </p><p>Here's what you should do. Right now, because the US new-car market has been so robust, a lot of vehicles are coming off leases are being sold a "certified pre-owned" cars. They've been checked out by dealers, certified as excellent by the original manufacturer, have relatively low mileage, and enjoy a legitimate manufacturer's warranty.</p><p>I've bought CPOs before - my current personal car is a 2011 Toyota Prius. But here's the real trick: You want to go for a luxury CPO. </p><p>I did some quick searching in my area and came up with a CPO Mercedes-Benz E350 4Matic sedan for about $31,500. Less than 30,000 miles, and a blue exterior and a beige interior. Quite well equipped, including a premium sound system.</p><p>I ran the financing, assuming a $1,500 down payment at a 72-month loan at 4%. That got me under $500 a month on the payment.</p><p>That might seem steep. You could choose a $15,000 mass-market CPO or used car and get your payment under $250. So why should you pay twice as much? Why also accept higher insurance premiums and potentially more costly maintenance?</p><p>Enter the trick: You're going to keep the car for 20 years. </p><h2>Get ready for the pushback</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/commuters-pass-through-grand-central-terminal-during-news-photo/56454003">Mario Tama/Getty Images</a></span></p><p class="caption">If you live in a big city, you might not need a car.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>OK, I'm prepared for the pushback. Why a Mercedes? A Lexus is a safer bet for long-term ownership. True, but Mercedes are pretty well put together, and it's rather satisfying to own an older one - they simply age very well.</p><p>So you're 25 years old and you can barely afford this Merc. But you're going to press forward, pay it off after seven years, and then spend the next 13 enjoying a no-car-payment life while you scrupulously maintain your E-Class. Oil changes on schedule, brake jobs, tire rotation, wash it once a month, garage it if possible. </p><p>This will probably be your biggest monthly expense, but remember, you're thinking long-term. In fact, you're thinking about your next major financial life choice, which is buying a home at some point in your thirties. Let's say you do that at around 35. You'll have spent three years saving your $500-ish a month, giving your $18,000 for your down-payment.</p><p>I'm making the additional assumption that you'll be paired off with another millennial at this juncture, and that your partner will also have about $20,000 in down-payment savings. This means that you can consider purchasing a $200,000 starter home. Having no car loan on your side of the equation will benefit when you begin pursuing a mortgage - as will seven years of on-time payments. </p><h2>Invest in quality and invest early</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>AP Images</span></p><p class="caption">Next up: Buying a home.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The critical move here is to invest in quality and invest early. You also have to invest in commitment. Because, obviously, your Mercedes will be your Mercedes for another decade after you buy the house. (Contrast that with spending a much smaller percentage of your monthly gross pay, probably on a quite cheap, old, and mistreated high-mileage used car - you'll be lucky to get five years of solid ownership before having to replace the vehicle.)</p><p>It gets better, though. Your monthly mortgage payment should be under $1,000, so because you've been socking away that former $500-a-month car payment for a few years, you're already "liquid" enough to handle half of it. If your partner also saved at that rate, the mortgage is, in a manner of speaking, free. </p><p>All because you "spent too much" on a car when you were 25. </p><p>I'll admit that this is all very back-of-the-envelope, and that the numbers won't apply for people who live in expensive parts of the country, have steep student-loan debt, or who aren't gainfully employed with incomes high enough to support my proposed plan.</p><p>But it's usually not a bad idea to buy the best that you can afford and hold onto it for as long as possible, over time making bank on the amortization of the early "over-investment." This plan for long-term car ownership is a classic example. A bit controversial, I'll admit. Mercedes has delivered, pulling the cover off the gen-three car at the LA auto show on Wednesday.</p><p>It's the same out sleek-and-sloping silhouette, but updated and dialed back.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Mercedes-Benz</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>"Mercedes-Benz is building more strongly than ever on the aura and unique character of this trendsetting model: the new model has pure CLS genes with its arching waistline, flat side window lines and low greenhouse," the carmaker said in a statement.</p><p>Designer Gorden Wagener called the new CLS a "logical evolution of the Sensual Purity design idiom," adding that sharp edges and lines have been significantly reduced."</p><p>Fans of the CLS are getting an update on the familiar as far as the exterior goes. But there's some new action in the engine bay.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Mercedes-Benz</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Mercedes has developed a new inline six-cylinder motor for the CLS that features a type of mild hybrid system. (The currently on-sale second-gen car is available in the US only with a big V8 motor in CLS 550 trim.) Initially, the rear-wheel-drive CLS 450 and all-wheel-drive 450 4Matic are all we'll be seeing.</p><p>Merc described the new engine as a "systematically electrified in-line six-cylinder with EQ Boost ... and a 48 volt onboard electrical system powers." That serves up 362 horsepower with a bump of 21 ponies that can add some extra pop in the 0-60 mph dash. In other situations, the EQ Boost enables the gas engine to cruise more efficiently.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Mercedes-Benz</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Inside, the new CLS is as lush as you'd expect from a vehicle that should start at over $70,000 (Mercedes didn't announce pricing for the revamped car, but the current gen has a base sticker of about $72,000).
