As the government figures, exports of cut and polished (worked) LGD from India has been growing at fast clip. During FY21 the exports were $637.97 million and shot up to $1,348.24 million in FY22. This fiscal -- FY23 -- the exports of LGD between April-December stood at $1,387.33 million. Presenting the Budget 2023-24 in the Parliament recently, Indian Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword>, said: "The LGD is a technology and innovation-driven emerging sector with high employment potential." "These environment-friendly diamonds have optically and chemically the same properties as natural diamonds. To encourage indigenous production of LGD seeds and machines and to reduce import dependency, a research and development grant will be provided to one of the IITs for five years," she added. As per a recommendation made by the <keyword id="113018" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="department-of-commerce" source="Orion">Department of Commerce</keyword>, the research grant of Rs 242 crore over a period of five years to <keyword id="55119" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-institute-of-technology" source="Orion">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword>, Madras (IIT-M) has been approved. It is proposed to establish an India Centre for lab grown diamond (InCent-LGD) at IIT-M with the estimated cost of Rs 242.96 crore over five years. The aim of this project is to provide, in mission mode, technical assistance to the industries, and entrepreneurs in the country, in promoting indigenous manufacturing of both chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) systems along with the recipes for expanding the LGD business at the upstream end. Research efforts would make the technology available for start-ups at affordable cost, increase employment opportunities, increase exports of LGD, thus play a significant role in fuelling India's economic growth. According to the Indian government, the gems and jewellery sector plays a significant role in the Indian economy, contributing around nine per cent to India's total merchandise export. Over the past decade, there has been several positive developments in the gem and jewellery sector globally. One of the major technological developments in this sector has been the LGD. Though, India is one of the leading producers of LGD using CVD technology it has to depend on other countries for the supply of critical machinery components and 'seeds' -- which are the raw material for producing synthetic diamonds. It is, therefore, imperative that India develops its own, indigenous technology for producing the critical machinery component seeds to remove the import dependence that we have in the case of natural diamonds, the government said. Good quality LGD with qualified certification, produced from the developed equipment and process parameters will attract many foreign customers increasing the export volume of LGD and scalability of production. The documented process parameters and the developed recipe will encourage new entrepreneurs to enter the LGD business making it easier and cost-effective to set up the facility, start the business and generate employment. "This is indeed the right time to set up a diamond factory in India, given that diamonds have thermal and electrical properties making them superior to contemporary technologies like silicon, <keyword id="1437475" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="silicon-carbide" source="Orion">silicon carbide</keyword> and gallium nitride. While this is a decent performance, it could have been better. Oppo has tried to overcome this to an extent with its VOOC flash charge technology. I have my own thresholds as to when I finally decide to upgrade, and your criteria are probably different to mine. That's to say, only you can really decide when it's time to upgrade to a new phone. Still, some things to consider: The age of your current phone doesn't really matter. What really matters is whether it runs well enough to do what you want, and whether it has the features you want. If your phone does neither, then you have a solid case to upgrade.If your old phone has had its day, here are the main things to consider whether you should upgrade to the <keyword id="576817" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="PIXEL">Pixel</keyword> 5 or Pixel 4a 5G:<h2>With Pixel phones in particular, some things are constant</h2>For one, you get Android updates as soon as they're released, unlike the majority of other Android phones out there that get updates weeks or months later. Another great thing with Pixel phones is that Google trickles down many new features announced with new models to older Pixel devices, which actually gives you several reason not to upgrade if you have an older Pixel device.Some new features include Google's new Exreme Battery Saver mode that will supposedly keep your phone usable while giving it 48 hours of battery life. There's also a new Google Assistant "Hold for me" feature where Google Assistant will take your place when you're placed on hold on a call. <h2>At long last, Pixel phones have an ultrawide camera</h2>If you've been waiting for a Pixel phone to get an ultrawide camera, your time has come. Brand-new to Google's Pixel phones is an ultrawide camera lens. It's a big deal because Google infamously snubbed ultrawide with the Pixel 4 in 2019 and doubled-down on a zoomed lens instead, which was an odd, misguided move for 2019 flagship phones. We have yet to test the camera, but we're confident that the standard 12-megapixel sensor will be excellent, and we're very keen to see what ultrawide photos look like with Google's incredible camera chops.<div type="image" title="pixel 5 hero" height="900" width="1200" msid="78452160" hostid="261"></div><h2>The prices look good, but Samsung is spoiling Google's party</h2>At $700 for the Pixel 5 and $500 for the Pixel 4a 5G, Google's latest phones make the prospect of upgrading less daunting.With that said, there are some concerns about the Pixel 5's specs and set of features relative to its price tag, especially when compared to Samsung's $700 Galaxy S20 FE. The S20 FE, for example, also starts at only $700 and runs on the super-powerful Snapdragon 865 chip — the same that spins the wheels in the ultra premium Galaxy S20 line. The Galaxy S20 FE also has a bigger screen with a faster refresh rate.<h2>It might not be much of a performance upgrade for some</h2>The Pixel 4a 5G and even the flagship Pixel 5 run on the fast-but-mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. It's a good chip, and it helped Google keep the price down for the latest Pixel phones, but it may not offer much of a performance upgrade if your phone is only two years old (2018) and runs on the Snapdragon 845. Basically, the latest Pixel phones will run just fine and they'll be plenty fast, but Pixel 3 and Galaxy S9 owners should beware that the Pixel 5 or Pixel 4a 5G may not be much faster if they're after better performance. I've tested all the 5G phones released in the US this year, mostly on T-Mobile's 5G network, and I've never had a better experience than 4G LTE. It also recognizes Hindi in English letters. The product is slated for an early Q1 2016 launch. 
 
Google also unveiled a Beta feature where you can point your cell-phone camera at Hindi text, and it’ll translate it to English in real time. The company is looking to extend these services to offer other languages soon.
