Jan is introduced to viewers as a top Dunder Mifflin executive in the early seasons before becoming an on-again, off-again girlfriend of regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell) later in the series. </p><p>More recently, Hardin has been steadily rising <a href="https://www.insider.com/dwts-melora-hardin-says-ballroom-counterintuitive-to-ballet-2021-10">to the top of the scoreboard on season 30</a> of "<keyword id="11957118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dancing-with-the-stars" source="Orion">Dancing With the Stars</keyword>" alongside her pro partner, Artem Chigvintsev.</p><p>While she's showing off her ballroom moves, Hardin has the support of her former "The Office" costar Kate Flannery (who played Meredith Palmer), who was in the audience <a href="https://www.insider.com/dwts-britney-night-every-dance-score-ranked-lowest-to-highest-2021-10#safe-the-judges-awarded-melora-hardin-and-artem-chigvintsev-23-out-of-30-for-their-cha-cha-to-you-drive-me-crazy-11">for "DWTS" Britney Night earlier in October</a>.</p><p>In the episode, Flannery was seen loudly clapping and cheering as Hardin and Chigvintsev performed the cha cha to "(You Drive Me) Crazy." Flannery also dropped by the pair's dance studio during rehearsals the following week.</p><p>However, Hardin told Insider that while she and Flannery have "remained friends," Hardin is not as close to the rest of her costars.</p><p>"I don't really see them socially, really," Hardin said, adding that the cast is still "always happy to see each other."</p><div type="image" title="the office jan michael" height="600" width="800" msid="87267096" hostid="261"></div><p>Hardin continued that she's seen Oscar Nunez (Oscar Martinez), Brian Baumgartner (Kevin Malone), and Creed Bratton (who played the eccentric character by the same name) from time to time. She has also bumped into Carell at a few events, and Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly) and Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin) have invited Hardin <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-facts-podcast-show-office-ladies-2020-2">onto their "Office Ladies" podcast</a>. </p><p>Hardin added: "We all have a bond because of having been on this iconic show that kind of changed everybody's trajectory professionally."</p><p>Hardin isn't the first "The Office" cast member to appear on "<keyword id="12110722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dwts" source="Orion">DWTS</keyword>."</p><p>Flannery previously competed in season 28 of the dancing competition show, paired with pro Pasha Pashkov. Flannery and Pashkov finished seventh overall <a href="https://people.com/tv/dwts-kate-flannery-eliminated/">in a shock elimination</a>.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12300438" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="melora-hardin" source="Orion">Melora Hardin</keyword> earned top scores on Monday's "<keyword id="12110722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dwts" source="Orion">DWTS</keyword>" Disney Heroes Night with her quickstep. </li><li>But she told Insider before the performance it was "counterintuitive" to her past ballet training.</li></ul><p>Melora Hardin said that her highly-praised routine on Monday night, which sent her to the top of the "<keyword id="11957118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dancing-with-the-stars" source="Orion">Dancing With the Stars</keyword>" scoreboard and was the best-scoring dance of the season so far, was "counterintuitive" to her previous ballet experience. </p><p>The "Office" actress scored 36 out of 40 points from the four judges <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYlHA1q6L6w">with her quickstep routine set to "I Wan'na Be Like You"</a> (from "The Jungle Book") during <a href="https://www.insider.com/dancing-with-the-stars-disney-heroes-dances-scores-best-photos-2021-10">the dancing competition show's Disney Heroes Night</a>. </p><p>However, ahead of the performance, Hardin told Insider it wasn't particularly easy perfecting that routine, given her ballet training.</p><p>During her intro package in the "DWTS" season 30 premiere, Hardin explained that she "loved ballet as a little girl" but had never done ballroom dancing before. </p><p>"So I have to be down, I have to be bending my knees all the time," Hardin told Insider ahead of her quickstep. "It's like I have to both be stretching neck out, but I also have to be down low. So there's a lot of things counterintuitive about that coming from ballet where everything is held up, up up."</p><p>Even though her ballet-training might have caused a few hiccups during initial rehearsals, it all worked out on the ballroom dance floor on Monday night with each of the judges awarding Hardin and Chigvintsev a near-perfect score of 9 out of 10. </p><p>Judge Bruno Tonioli praised Hardin and Chigvintsev's routine as "the best quickstep" of the season so far.</p><p>While Hardin doesn't necessarily view her ballet experience as an advantage over her ballroom competitors, past "DWTS" contestants, like the rapper Nelly, have spoken out about their cast members having an edge over them with dance skills. </p><p>Nelly, who placed third in season 29 of the popular <keyword id="11896774" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="abc" source="Orion">ABC</keyword> show, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/nelly-says-he-probably-wouldnt-have-done-dwts-had-he-known-who-his-competitors-were-exclusive">told Entertainment Tonight in November 2020</a> that he wouldn't have agreed to join the cast of "DWTS" if he'd known he was competing against people with more dance training.</p><p>"Because you don't stack yourself up against that," he said. "Why would I get in a boxing match with someone who's been boxing since they were 12?"</p><p>Fellow "DWTS" season 30 contestant JoJo Siwa previously <a href="https://www.insider.com/dwts-contestant-jojo-siwa-defends-prior-dancing-experience-2021-9">defended her prior dancing experience</a>, explaining that ballroom dancing is <a href="https://www.insider.com/jojo-siwa-life-rise-career-bio-photos-pictures-2020-3">"truly different"</a> from anything she's tried her hand at in the past, largely echoing what Hardin told Insider about how her ballet training didn't help her at all with quickstep prep.</p><p>"I think for me, the best analogy that I came up with was it's like a football player trying to play baseball or soccer or basketball," the former reality star <a href="https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/jojo-siwa-amanda-kloots-defend-past-dance-experience-before-dwts/">told Us Weekly and other publications</a> in September. "It's truly different. It's different muscles, it's different styles."</p>

(Both pairs were only beat by Melora Hardin and Artem Chigvintsev, who topped the leaderboard with a 36 out of 40 for their "Jungle Book" quickstep.)</p><p>The judges had unanimous praise for the performance.</p><p>"I loved almost everything about that," said judge Carrie Ann Inaba, praising the way Giannulli handled the music change and the "trust" and "chemistry" that Giannulli and Chmerkovskiy have as partners. </p><p>"I'm not a cat person and you do not look adorable in that makeup," Derek Hough joked, before adding that she's becoming one of his favorite dancers to watch this season.</p><p>Bruno Tonioli channeled his feline side, literally meowing before telling Giannulli that she had "the spirit of a wild cat" and "the sprint of a cheetah" while dancing.</p><p>"And yet she maintained the lightness of a gazelle," Tonioli added.</p><p>Giannulli is one of the celebrities on this season of "DWTS" with no prior formal dance training, but she is finding her stride in the competition. She called <a href="https://www.insider.com/dwts-britney-night-olivia-jade-tango-hold-it-against-me-2021-10">her tango performance last week "exhilarating"</a> and said that while she finds it "hard to trust" people, she trusts Chmerkovskiy. And clearly, that's coming through in their performances.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11957117" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jojo-siwa" source="Orion">JoJo Siwa</keyword> and <keyword id="12137942" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jenna-johnson" source="Orion">Jenna Johnson</keyword> scored a 40 out of 40 on Monday night's "<keyword id="12110722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dwts" source="Orion">DWTS</keyword>."</li><li>Siwa and Johnson got the night's top score with a foxtrot to "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee (Reprise)."</li></ul><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/watch-dwts-jojo-siwa-jenna-johnson-first-dance-quickstep-2021-9">JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson</a> earned the first perfect score on season 30 of "<keyword id="11957118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dancing-with-the-stars" source="Orion">Dancing With the Stars</keyword>" with a soulful foxtrot to "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee (Reprise)" from "<keyword id="12026797" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="grease" source="Orion">Grease</keyword>."</p><p>On Monday night, contestants on <a href="https://www.insider.com/dancing-with-the-stars-fun-facts-2018-10">the dance competition show</a> performed their ballroom routines to songs from the iconic musical, including "Summer Nights," "Beauty School Dropout," and "You're the One that I Want."</p><p>Siwa and Johnson's perfectly-executed routine scored 40 out of 40, with all four judges praising the pair for both their chemistry and technique.</p><p>"You affected my brain with the quality of the technique, you affected my heart with the artistry that you produced," judge Len Goodman told Johnson and Siwa, who were dressed as Frenchy (played by Didi Conn in the film) and Sandy (played by Olivia Newton-John), respectively.</p><p>Fellow judge Bruno Tonioli agreed with Goodman, remarking that the pair's routine was "the most exquisite interpretation of the importance and power of friendship."</p><p>Ahead of the performance on Monday night, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CVLCQbSFFqX/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">Siwa wrote on Instagram</a> that the routine was all about "trust and friendship."</p><p>"Our dance matches perfectly to Jenna and I's story and our friendship that we've gained over the last few weeks," Siwa explained</p><p>Siwa and Johnson weren't the only couple dancing to "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" on Monday.</p><p>"The Office" actress Melora Hardin and her partner Artem Chigvintsev <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQkwsaPNRWQ">also performed the Viennese waltz to the song</a>, although they danced to the more upbeat version of the song that is featured earlier in the movie when the other characters are only just getting to know Sandy.</p><p>Hardin and Chigvintsev scored 9 out of 10 from each judge, placing them a few spots below Johnson and Siwa on the scoreboard.  </p><h2>'Grease' cast members, including Newton-John, made appearances on Monday</h2><div type="image" title="JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson performing on &quot;Grease&quot; night on &quot;Dancing With the Stars&quot;" height="2000" width="2666" msid="87142190" hostid="261"></div><p>"Grease" tells the story of Sandy as she starts attending Rydell High, the same school as her summer fling, Danny Zuko (played by John Travolta in the 1978 film).</p><p>While Sandy is a naive outsider, Danny is popular with lots of friends. </p><p>To give the contestants an authentic experience, <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1306247/surprise-olivia-newton-john-to-appear-on-dancing-with-the-stars-grease-night">Newton-John made an appearance in the ballroom on Monday</a> via pre-recorded video messages for the audience and cast members.</p><p>Newton-John wasn't the only one present during the episode from the cast of the 1978 movie. </p><p>Frankie Avalon, who played Teen Angel, sang "Beauty School Dropout" live during Amanda Kloots and partner Alan Bersten's dance routine, while Conn also video-chatted with some of the contestants, including Siwa and Johnson.</p>

And I was like, 'Oh no,'" the actress recently told Business Insider.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Landecker, who's been in numerous TV shows and movies including "Louie" and "A Serious Man," plays Sarah Pfefferman, the eldest daughter of Jeffrey Tambor's transgender character Maura Pfefferman. During season one, Sarah deals with her divorce and reignites a romance with a woman from college, Tammy (Melora Hardin). The just-released <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/behind-transparent-wedding-photo-scene-2015-12" target="_blank">season two begins with their wedding.</a></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The first season finished shooting in August of last year. By the end of September, it debuted on Amazon, <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/3471/s01/" target="_blank">critics raved,</a> and many viewers binged the entire thing.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"I had a really strange reaction last year," Landecker explained. "It was almost like not in any way a significant or important [reaction], but a kind of postpartum depression. It all happened really fast, and we were in this cocoon of creativity. I'd been a theater actor my whole life, and I just wasn't used to rapid consumption. It just came out and everybody else had this thing. "And I'm learning now as the second season comes out that part of it is just going through this very personal process and then sharing it with everybody. It's a slightly disorienting experience. It's really fantastic and you're thrilled that everybody is happy and enjoying it. It's much better this year than it was last year. 'Transparent' star Amy Landecker says she had a 'freak-out' after the overnight success of the Amazon show

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>The opening scene of "Transparent" season two shows exactly why critics have loved the series&#xa0;- and why it was just <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/complete-list-of-2016-golden-globes-nominees-2015-12">nominated</a> for best comedy series at the Golden Globes.<p>The scene&#xa0;features the Pfefferman family, their extended family, and friends who are considered family taking a photo ahead&#xa0;of Sarah Pfefferman (Amy Landecker) and fiancee&#xa0;Tammy's (Melora Hardin) wedding.</p><p>The elements that went into making the wedding photo scene great - good writing, a talented cast, a smart director and crew, and a little serendipity - are also what make the show generally excel.</p><h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">It was all done in one take</span></h2><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"One of my favorite stories of season two, and I think what will be talked about a lot, is that that first five-minute shot is one take," actress Amy Landecker recently told Business Insider.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During the scene, the family's eccentricities and awkward interactions&#xa0;take the scene to the brink of discomfort for viewers. That was by design, courtesy of the show's creator, writer, and director Jill Soloway.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"When a take is going, a take is going, and Jill will not yell cut," Landecker explained. "She'll just keep it going if she feels that there is any possibility, and [cinematographer] Jim Frohna will keep moving that camera. Jill always says she's much more interested in the honesty of the moment than the words on the page, and those can change."</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The scene finally comes to an end when the photographer refers to Jeffrey Tambor's Maura Pfefferman character as "sir." The first season of "Transparent" followed the family patriarch's&#xa0;transition to living as a woman.</span></p><h2><strong>Jeffrey Tambor doesn't break character</strong></h2><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"A lot of it is scripted dialogue, but one of the most pivotal moments in that first take is not scripted, which is when the actor playing the wedding photographer misgenders Maura," Landecker said. "Jeffrey Tambor in his genius as an actor doesn't even for a minute feel like Jeffrey in that moment. Jeffrey is Maura, and without missing a beat was offended and walks away like, 'I'm not doing this anymore.'"</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tambor's unplanned reaction to being called "sir" then instantly played out with the rest of the cast who know to stay in character until Soloway yells cut.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Everyone had to regroup, and that was just an improvised moment of fate, a happy accident in the storytelling of what happens to transgender people all the time," the actress said.
