<p>As President Donald Trump's presidential campaign lurches toward the finish line, many of his supporters have seized on an increasingly deranged and unsupported set of accusations and tropes that paint Joe Biden and the Democratic Party as tolerant of sex predators who prey on children. The line of attack, which is consistent with and inspired by the QAnon conspiracy theory, has reached <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-qanon-infiltrated-the-gop-2020-10">the highest levels of the Trump campaign.</a></p><p>But as Trump's supporters work to inject accusations of pedophilia into mainstream political discourse, an Insider investigation has unearthed long-buried details about a key player in Trump's reelection effort, and accusations that she presided over a shocking sexual-abuse scandal in which multiple individuals accused a long-time wrestling ring announcer of gratifying himself sexually with their feet when they were children.</p><p>The key player is <keyword id="52778" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Linda-McMahon">Linda McMahon</keyword>, who served in Trump's Cabinet as head of the Small Business Administration before stepping down to chair <keyword id="10191280" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="america-first-action">America First Action</keyword>, a key pro-Trump super PAC. <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/lookup2.php?strID=C00637512&amp;cycle=20202020">In the 2020 election cycle</a> so far, America First Action has raised $128 million and spent $107 million on Trump's behalf. Before she took on a leadership role in Trumpworld, McMahon ran the entertainment behemoth <keyword id="117604" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="World-Wrestling-Entertainment">World Wrestling Entertainment</keyword> — formerly known as Titan <keyword id="6356028" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="sports">Sports</keyword> and the World Wrestling Federation — with her husband, <keyword id="1332865" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vince-McMahon">Vince McMahon</keyword>. </p><p>The accused child molester was <keyword id="10191279" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="mel-phillips">Mel Phillips</keyword>, a ring announcer who also worked behind the scenes running the crew that put the wrestling ring itself together. His public downfall was chronicled in the tabloid press in the 1990s. But less well-known are the lengths to which the McMahons went to co-opt the young wrestling fans who accused Phillips — and at least one high-ranking <keyword id="6359203" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="wwe">WWE</keyword> official — of sexual abuse, and the cavalier attitude the McMahons took toward accusations that their workers used wrestling to lure, groom, and sexually abuse young boys.</p><p>In a statement, a spokesperson for America First Action did not address claims that Linda McMahon ignored the allegations against Phillips, saying only, "America First Action nor Linda McMahon have any idea what you are talking about regarding child sexual abuse claims being made against the Democratic party by President Trump, the Trump campaign or by our organization. America First Action and Linda has not done any such thing."</p><p>In a statement, WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt said "the only persons implicated were not senior officials, nor were there any claims of anything approximating conventional forms of sexual abuse such as rape, sodomy, etc. Instead, [a young former WWE employee] claimed Mel Phillips had a foot fetish and played with his feet." <p class="p1">Robert Rodriguez's second film in the franchise bombed over the weekend despite Sofia Vergara, Charlie Sheen, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Mel Gibson, and more appearing in the film.</p>
<p class="p1">How badly did it perform? Last week's bomb, "Runner, Runner" nearly performed better than it. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>

Starring Taye Diggs and Paula Patton, the Fox Searchlight film brought in a poor $18.3 million in three weeks.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>

"<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=donjon.htm">Don Jon</a>" brings in another $2.3 million this weekend This will probably be the final week for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's porn film in the top ten with new releases including a "Carrie" remake out next weekend. While JGL's directorial debut did well, the film may have made more if the advertising for the film - which was Scarlett-Johansson-centric - wasn't so much of a bait and switch. It came as a surprise when Julianne Moore - someone barely shown in the trailers - had a rather important and surprising role near the film's end.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">8. Formula One film "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=rush2013.htm">Rush</a>" is no hit here moving down another three spots this weekend grossing $2.4 million. However, the Ron Howard film does have some traction overseas. In four weeks, the film has earned nearly $70 million with the majority of its money ($47) coming from the foreign box office.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">7. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=insidious2.htm">Insidious 2</a>" moved down one spot with $3.6 million in week five. The film, which cost an estimated $5 million has brought in an impressive $104 million during its run in theaters so far.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">6. Hugh Jackman's performance in kidnapper film "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=prisoners.htm">Prisoners</a>" moves down two notches earning $3.67 million.  For all the hype the movie has built, it has earned $76 million at theaters worldwide.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>

Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake's high-stakes gambling game "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=runnerrunner.htm">Runner, Runner</a>" dropped another 51% with $3.7 million in its second week. Surprisingly, the film is making much more money overseas - a huge $31 million<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">4. Despite opening in more than 2,500 theaters, "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=machete.htm" target="_blank">Machete Kills</a>"  film brought in $3.8 million. That's significantly lower than the $11.4 million the original made upon its debut in 2010.</p>
<p class="p1">3. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=cloudy2.htm">Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2</a>" continues to reign in theaters for Sony with $14.2 million. The film will cross the $100 million mark worldwide this week. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">2. Tom Hanks' pirate film "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=captainphillips.htm">Captain Phillips</a>" took in a huge $26 million haul opening weekend. After a summer with a few disappointing film performances - "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=whitehousedown.htm" target="_blank">White House Down</a>" and "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=mortalinstruments.htm" target="_blank">The Mortal Instruments</a>" - Sony needed "Captain Phillips" to be a win. It delivered. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">1. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=gravity.htm">Gravity</a>" nearly did as well in its second weekend at the box office with a huge $44 million. That's only a 20% drop from what the film made opening weekend ($55 million). The George Clooney and Sandra Bullock film will make it to $200 million worldwide this week.</p>

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>The New York Jets didn't get the quarterback that some thought they were going after in the NFL Draft, but they ultimately ended up with one of the best drafts of any team.</p><p>Leading up to the draft, the biggest mystery was whether or not the Tennessee Titans would trade the No. 2 pick to a team that wanted Marcus Mariota. The Jets, who owned the No. 6 pick, seemed to be in the best position to make a move since they had the best pick to offer in return.</p><p>At the end of the day the Titans kept the pick and selected Mariota - <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/tennessee-titans-nfl-draft-marcus-mariota-2015-5">a move that now appears to have been the plan all along</a>. It turned out to be the best thing to happen to the Jets. Instead of trading up, the Jets made what many analysts are calling two of the best picks in the draft.</p><p><strong>1st round - Leonard Williams, DL (USC)</strong></p><p>The big win for the Jets started early when they stayed at No. 6 and made a classic best-player-available pick, landing USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams, a player many had graded as the best player in the draft.</p><p>Defensive line was not considered a big need for the Jets. They already have two great players in Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson and a third very good player, Damon Harrison, in a 3-4 defense.</p><p>However, both Wilkerson and Harrison will be eligible for free agency next winter. In the meantime Williams can rotate in and learn before potentially becoming a full-time starter in 2016.</p><p><strong>4th round <strong>-</strong> Bryce Petty, QB (Baylor)</strong></p><p>The Jets may not have landed Mariota, but they may have picked up the next-best thing in quarterback Bryce Petty.</p><p>Petty is more of a project than some of the other top quarterbacks in the draft. But by all accounts he has all the physical tools to be a successful NFL quarterback and the early feeling is that the Jets got a steal by nabbing him in the fourth round.</p><p>ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. on ESPN Radio explained why this was such a great pick for the Jets:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"They hit the jackpot with Bryce Petty. I think the Jets did what Buffalo could have done or what other teams should have done and taken Petty in the third round. They get him in the fourth and if Geno [Smith] is not the guy then you at least give your fans something, 'Two years down the road, we can have Bryce Petty.' Not this year, but the following year, why not? He is not going to be a 5-year project here."</p><p>The key here for the Jets is that they have a quarterback with experience in Geno Smith who can run the team in 2015.</p><p>With the Petty pick, the Jets can gave Smith one more year to show if he can be a playoff-caliber quarterback while Petty adjusts to the NFL, and then give Petty a shot if Smith doesn't show dramatic improvement.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Mariota can still turn out to be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. The Jets didn't trade up for Marcus Mariota, and it worked out perfectly

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Robert Klemko of the MMQB.com recently took </span><a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2015/05/15/lael-collins-nfl-draft-dallas-cowboys-murder-investigation/">a very detailed look at La'el Collins' tumultuous period before, during, and after the NFL Draft</a>&#xa0;in late April and early May.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><br /></span><p>A month before the draft, Collins - an offensive lineman from LSU - was considered a lock to be drafted in the first round with <a href="http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/mock/?season=2015&amp;version=2&amp;source=mel-kiper-mock-draft">ESPN's Todd McShay projecting Collins to be the 11th pick</a> and <a href="http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/mock/?season=2015&amp;version=2&amp;source=mel-kiper-mock-draft">Mel Kiper predicting</a> the lineman would go as high as No. 16.</p><p>If Collins would have been taken in that range, he would have received a contract worth $10 million-$13 million over the next four years with all of it guaranteed.</p><p>However, that changed just days before the draft in late April when <a href="http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2015/story/_/id/12782074/lael-collins-sought-questioning-police-following-shooting-death-29-year-old-woman">Baton Rouge police told ESPN they wanted to talk to Collins</a> in connection with the death of Brittany Mills, a woman authorities believed he had been romantically involved with at one time. Mills was pregnant at the time of her death, but&#xa0;a paternity test determined earlier this month&#xa0;<a href="http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12836913/paternity-test-taken-former-lsu-lineman-lael-collins-negative">he was not the father&#xa0;of her child</a>, ESPN reported.</p><p><span>Collins eventually&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/la-el-collins-still-not-a-suspect-after-meeting-with-police-050415">was interviewed by police</a><span>&#xa0;and was never</span><span>&#xa0;named a suspect in her death. We've reached out to his agents for comment.</span></p><p>Before the paternity test results came out, Collins was removed from "multiple" NFL draft boards pending "additional clarity" on the murder case, according to <a href="https://twitter.com/CharlesRobinson/status/593481408267550720">Yahoo's Charles Robinson</a>.</p><p>There was still some speculation that Collins would be drafted in one of the later rounds where a team could potentially get a first-round talent and only have to give him a contract with less than $100,000 guaranteed.</p><p>To avoid this scenario, Collins' agent, Deryk Gilmore, first lobbied the NFL to remove Collins from the draft and enter him in this summer's supplemental draft. That would give them a chance to fully clear their client's name to the satisfaction of NFL teams. <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/593878105103671297">The NFL</a>&#xa0;denied this request, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>At this point, Collins' agent did the calculations, <a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2015/05/15/lael-collins-nfl-draft-dallas-cowboys-murder-investigation/">according to Klemko</a>, and decided it was better for his client to go undrafted. The big differences were the amount of guaranteed money and the length of his first contract.</p><p><strong>If Collins had been drafted late in the sixth or early in seventh round, his contract would have been terrible</strong>.</p><p>Players drafted in the sixth or seventh round this year received contracts worth $2.3 million-$2.4 million over four years with just $50,000-$150,000 guaranteed and no hope of becoming a free agent until 2019.</p><p><strong>If Collins went undrafted his situation would have been much better</strong>.</p><p>By going undrafted, Collins was able to choose among numerous offers (<a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2015/05/15/lael-collins-nfl-draft-dallas-cowboys-murder-investigation/">29 teams contacted Collins' agent after the draft</a>, according to Klemko) allowing him to decide which situation was best for his future. The downside is teams were still limited by how much they could offer Collins.</p><p>Collins ultimately signed with the Dallas Cowboys who gave him $1.6 million, all the money left in their rookie free agent pool, <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/596369637824073728">according to Ian Rapoport</a>&#xa0;of the NFL Network.</p><p>While that is nearly $1 million less in total value compared to a late-round pick, the upside is that the Cowboys were able to make the entire $1.6 million guaranteed and Collins will be eligible for a new contract in 2018, one year earlier when he can sign a more lucrative deal if he plays well.</p><p><strong>The threat</strong>.</p><p>At this point Collins' agent made a bold move.</p><p>According to Klemko, Collins' agents told teams that if he was drafted after the third round, <a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2015/05/15/lael-collins-nfl-draft-dallas-cowboys-murder-investigation/">he would not sign with the team and would instead sit out a year and re-enter next year's draft</a>. It was a gamble with multiple risks, and teams could have simply ignored the threat.</p><p>After the draft, one of Collins' agents admitted that the move was a bluff.</p><p>"We can put it on the record now: We were never going back in the draft," his agency's general counsel, Rick Smith, told Klemko. "If someone had drafted him, we would've had a long, long discussion about it, but at the end of the day you can't go back in the draft. He could get injured, gain weight, or 10 great tackles could come out.
