In startup parlance, a unicorn is a private company valued at or more than $1 billion and a decacorn is one worth more than $10 billion. In the past, before the explosion of social media, customers used to simply call the customer care centre to raise an issue or inquire about something. However, the arrival of social media has changed all that, with customers raising issues and posting queries on Twitter and Facebook – this is something that most of us have done at some point. This requires companies to address customer complaints across different channels, and so, having their information like account details, plans/services subscribed to, or payment information, in a quickly accessible manner becomes important. This is where the idea for Freshdesk, the company’s flagship product, was born. Then known as Freshdesk, the company rebranded itself as Freshworks in 2017. It now has tools for sales, marketing, information technology (IT) service management and human resources (HR). It claims to have over 52,000 customers and counts Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital and Accel amongst its investors. So, with that mindset, we made education an enemy of sport,” he said, explaining that we appreciate students who get 100 in math, but not if they are good at football or cricket. “A champion should be celebrated, be it a scientist or a sportsman,” he added. To that end, Mathrubootham’s Freshworks has also started FC Madras with an intention to promote grassroots football in the country. Despite raising around $500 million, Dunzo has struggled to secure additional investment and manage payroll. In February, there were rumors that Flipkart might acquire the platform, but there have been no updates on this matter since. Dunzo, on the other hand, was making headlines earlier this year for facing various financial struggles. The company’s top investor Lightbox also exited in May this year. On the other hand, the company is reportedly experiencing a cash crunch and owes approximately Rs 11.4 crore to various vendors, including Google India, Nilenso, Clover Ventures, Facebook India, Cupshup, Koo, and Glance. <h2>About Together Fund</h2>Together Fund, from which Jha is reportedly going to raise funds for his new venture, has invested in over 20 companies across various SaaS sectors, including recruitment, sales intelligence, marketing, healthcare, and cloud solutions for connected devices. “Our areas of focus span across SaaS, enterprise software, developer tools, open source software, cloud-native infrastructure and API-first businesses. We typically invest early (seed, pre A or series A) to help founders through the crucial zero-to-one part of their journey,” the company’s website reads. Together Fund was founded in 2021 by Girish Mathrubootham of Freshworks, Manav Garg of Eka Software, and Shubham Gupta formerly of Matrix Partners India. <ul><li><keyword id="12512340" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaswantiben-Jamnadas-Popat" source="Orion">Jaswantiben Jamnadas Popat</keyword> was conferred the Padma Shri award on Tuesday.</li><li>She is one of the founders of Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad.</li><li>Jaswantiben began her journey with an investment of ₹80 along with six of her friends.</li></ul>On March 15, 1959, Jaswantiben along with six of her friends met on a terrace in Girgaum, Maharashtra and started making papads, using a sum of ₹80, which were <a href="http://www.lijjat.com/Organisation/TheBeginning.aspx">borrowed</a> from Chhaganlal Karamshi Parekh, a social worker. Today, the brand is called Lijjat Papad, and it has grown to be a ₹1,600 crore business with 81 branches and employs over 45,000 women across the country, all of whom are considered co-owners in the enterprise. Recognising her journey, the Indian government gave the Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award in the country, to the 91-year old entrepreneur. While most people may not recognise her by name, it is unlikely that you are unfamiliar with her product. If you are someone who watched television during the 90s, you will probably remember the popular Lijjat Papad jingle with a hand puppet bunny chomping on crispy papad. <div type="Youtube" id="lSYMX6PmT34" title="Lijjat Papad Commercial - Doordarshan Ad/ Commercial from the 80's &amp; 90's - pOphOrn" thumbUrl="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/lSYMX6PmT34/mqdefault.jpg"></div> <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="A humble beginning" comment="subhead" text="A humble beginning">A humble beginning</cmsannotation> Jaswantiben, who hails from Mumbai’s now affluent Girgaum area, began her journey as an entrepreneur to contribute towards her family’s income. While she did not have any knowledge about running a business, her hard work and courage allowed her to start this venture. She started making papads with Parvatiben Ramdas Thodani, Ujamben Narandas Kundalia, Banuben. N. Tanna, Laguben Amritlal Gokani, Jayaben V. Vithalani, and Chutadben Amish Gawadem. “Making papads does not require education, which is why we started Lijjat,” Jasnatiben says in an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSz27aGjqog">interview</a>. “Everyone here is a partner and does not work for any other person, which was one of the factors that enabled women to join at the beginning,” she adds. <div type="image" title="Lijjat Papad" msid="87648084" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Lijjat Papad&amp;#39;s logo.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> “We do not require anyone to pay money, we do not check their caste or religion or do any background checks while adding a partner, where else will you find such a partnership business,” asks Jaswantiben. The group first made a batch of four packets of papads, which were sold to a businessman. Soon after that, the group increased from seven members to twenty-five and later the group registered as Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad and in 1962, it was renamed to Lijjat Papad. The papads are sold across the country and even exported to countries like the United States, Singapore, United Kingdom, Thailand and Netherlands among others. Not just papads, now Lijjat also sells masalas, atta, chapati and even detergent. The organisation has also had its share of failures, such as cottage leather, match sticks and incense sticks, which had to be shut down. “The credit of Lijjat Papad goes to every woman working here. This recognition is the fruit of their hard work,” Jaswantiben said while speaking to <a href="https://www.shethepeople.tv/top-stories/inspiration/jaswantiben-jamnadas-popat-lijjat-papad/">SheThePeople</a> after being awarded the Padma Shri. Jaswantiben-led Lijjat Papad believes in the principle of self-reliance and does not accept any donations or contributions. To ensure that the members do not lose out on employment, the company does not use machines and till date rolls the papads using hands despite making over 4.5 billion papads each year. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Equal profits" comment="subhead" text="Equal profits">Equal profits</cmsannotation> Every woman that joins Lijjat is called a Lijjat Ben (Sister) and is given equal share in the profits. Jyoti Naik, the former president of Lijjat Papad during an <a href="https://www.rediff.com/money/2005/apr/15spec.htm">interview</a> had revealed that Lijjat’s committee consisting of 21 members decides how profits are to be distributed. “Even a ben who has recently joined gets the same share as others who have been with us longer,” she said. The profits are usually distributed by purchasing gold coins -- either 5 grams or 10 grams, depending on the profit. The <keyword id="499463" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Ministry-of-Road-Transport-and-Highways" source="Orion">Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</keyword> (<keyword id="375113" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="morth" source="Orion">MoRTH</keyword>) is all set to roll out a new ₹7,270 crore <keyword id="12179033" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Support-Programme" source="Orion">State Support Programme</keyword> for Strengthening <keyword id="87280" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Road-Safety" source="Orion">Road Safety</keyword> to help realise the vision of 'Zero road fatalities on Indian roads.' The centrally-sponsored six-year programme will be implemented in 14 states that are now contributing to 85 per cent of the total road fatalities in the country. While MoRTH will lend a budgetary support of Rs 3,635 crore, an amount of Rs 1,818 crore will be secured as loan each from the World Bank and the <keyword id="50190" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-Development-Bank" source="Orion">Asian Development Bank</keyword>. Of the total cost, Rs 6,725 crore will be disbursed to the 14 states based on their performance while MoRTH will use Rs 545 crore for capacity building activities. The scheme will incentivise state governments to drive road safety interventions at the grassroots level with the main objective of curbing road accidents and achieving a reduction in fatalities, the MoRTH said in a concept note circulated to the target states. The target states under the scheme are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha, Haryana and Assam. "This is an output and outcome-driven scheme wherein the performance of the states will be assessed on 11 mandatory and three elective indicators (road safety interventions). The grants will be distributed to the states based on the Key Performance Indicators," top official sources told PTI. The preliminary project report prepared by MoRTH says the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act (2019) was brought in as an important intervention to achieve the fatality reduction target. "To leverage the strengthened law, it is necessary to have focused interventions in the related areas of road safety like road engineering, enforcement, road safety advocacy and media campaigns and efficient emergency response systems. The states need to be supported to act on result-oriented strategies. Hence the new scheme," the sources said. India reported about 1.51 lakh road deaths in 4.49 lakh accidents in the year 2019. Of the total deaths, the 14 identified states accounted for 1,27,379. The number of fatalities remained consistent over the last five years. In 2020, 1.32 lakh road deaths were recorded across the country, with the Covid-19-induced lockdown resulting in the reduction in number. The new scheme targets to reduce the fatality rate by 30 per cent by March 2027. Cyclists, two and three-wheeler riders and pedestrians have been identified as 'vulnerable road users' who comprised about 54 per cent of road traffic deaths in India. Under the new scheme, performance-based indicators have been proposed with the aim of reducing the impact of road accidents on these vulnerable users. An Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD) will be rolled out in all states by 2022-23 and applied for identifying and rectifying all black spots on state highways and major district roads. Road safety audit will be made mandatory on state highways and urban roads by the end of the scheme period. From 2022-23, MoRTH will launch a 'Challenge Round' every year to provide incentives to states on additional road safety interventions and also to promote competition among states. "The grant of Rs 7,270 crore will only meet partial fund requirement for the scheme. States are expected to make their own budgetary allocations and also implement projects in Public-Private Partnership mode," MoRTH told the states. Independent Verification Agencies will scrutinise the states' achievements, based on which the Central grant will be released. Some of the other major interventions mooted under the scheme are: Installation of speed management devices on urban roads in cities with a population of over four lakh, state highways and national highways for increased enforcement, a unique number for reporting accidents, development of dedicated lanes for two-wheelers on state highways and urban roads and identification of priority corridors. State Education Boards will be required to introduce a chapter on road safety for classes 6-9 in 2022-23 and up to class-12 the next year on. Deployment of Advance Traffic Management System, campaigns on vehicle safety and driver training, establishment of a Command and Control (Data) Centre for ambulances, establishment of automated vehicle fitness centres are some of the other initiatives planned under the scheme. The difference in the ideology is-Do you want to be rich or do you want to be the King? In a bootstrapped venture, you have the freedom to do what you want and not chase growth. A VC-funded company is like a rocket ship, designed to grow fast and try and create substantial wealth for investors, founders and employees in a reasonably short period of time.” 
 
He said that bootstrapping was not a viable option for them in the early days. 
 
“When we were approached by VCs, I was curious to learn this new way of building a business. And I am glad I took the decision to get VC funded because I was able to meet some really smart people in the world and learn from them,” said Mathrubootham. 
 
Talking about wealth creation, Mathrubootham says for him, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Are-these-silly-excuses-stopping-you-from-getting-rich/articleshow/47343945.cms">wealth creation</a> extends to employees as well and dreams that his employees will own BMWs one day. 
 
“Wealth creation to me means creating wealth not only for founders and shareholders, but also for all the employees who are passionately building the company along with us. When I started the company I told my wife that I am not starting a company for me to buy a BMW, I am starting a company so that all my employees can buy BMWs,” he said, who credits his family for shaping him as an entrepreneur, who allowed him to give freedom to do his own thing.

Keep aside all professional engagements, at the end of the day one needs a friend with whom you can discuss everything. Mathrubootham says it is difficult to share things freely at one point of time. 
 “It is very, very lonely. There are many things that you can't share freely with people who you consider as good friends in the team. There are a lot of stressful situations when you have to absorb everything and ensure that your people are protected from unnecessary external pressures. I think I have formed a great relationship with our early investor and first board member, Shekhar Kirani from <keyword id="144381" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Accel-Partners">Accel Partners</keyword>. There have been so many occasions where I have asked him to advise me as a friend or what he would have done if he were in my shoes,” he said.
