UpGrad is now planning to expand its services to first-time job seekers and college students. It also collaborated with premier Indian and foreign institutions including IIT Madras, MICA and University of Cambridge. Companies spend up to Rs 1.5 lakh per fresher for hiring and training. Online upskilling programmes claim to reduce it by almost 60%. “We are now moving towards courses on software development as well like Android, Python, Java and IoT. This Indian startup gains as students from Tier 2 and 3 cities opt for online digital courses

upGrad acquires edtech platform Harappa Education for Rs 300 cr

Online higher education platform upGrad on Thursday said it has acquired corporate training solutions provider <keyword id="138877" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="centum-learning" source="Orion">Centum Learning</keyword> in a share swap deal. The company did not disclose the deal size. With this transaction, Bharti Enterprises Limited and its affiliates will join upGrad's cap table. New Delhi-based <keyword id="4525766" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="centum" source="Orion">Centum</keyword> with 2,000 employees is likely to clock a revenue of Rs 170 crore in FY23. Centum's will continue to operate independently under <keyword id="646222" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sanjay-bahl" source="Orion">Sanjay Bahl</keyword>, Managing Director and CEO, the company said in a statement. Online education platform upGrad acquires Centum Learning to upskill enterprise workforce

Government’s push for online degrees To kickstart the learning calendar for students, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on May 17, announced that the top 100 educational institutions in India will be automatically allowed to start courses online from May 30, 2020. Under this, the courses will be taught via live interactions and aired on TV channels for students from 1st to 12th grade to access it. It will also introduce at least 12 educational channels to keep the learning continuity for students. As many as 200 textbooks have been added to e-pathshala and 61 crore students have accessed the courses on Diksha platform, as on March 24. Given the delay in the academic year, the government has also tied up with private DTH operators like Tata Sky to air educational content on TV. The students and teachers can also communicate with experts via skype.

The edtech companies attribute the rise in jobs to the increased demand for online learning. “Due to the increased demand for online learning, we are definitely ramping up our backend and technology and have plans to hire 1500 employees across all levels and with domain expertise in the field of technology, product, finance, strategy &amp; HR,” said Vamsi Krishna, CEO &amp; Co-founder of Vedantu. The platform says that its revenue grew by over 80% with the students spending an average of 18-20 minutes per live class daily. Gradeup also witnessed nearly 25% surge in daily enrollments, especially live classes for JEE &amp; NEET aspirants. “With Covid 19 and the lockdown due to increase in demand, our requirements in academic positions have specifically gone up. At the same time we are also scaling up on the sales team to cater to the demand of online classes which were provided by offline institutes in the past. For the next quarter, we will hire technology, product and sales professionals. Mumbai, July 14 (IANS) With the aim of diversifying its portfolio beyond travel, online corporate travel platform Yatra.com on Tuesday said it had forged an alliance with upGrad Enterprise, the business-to-business arm of online higher education company upGrad. The development comes even as the Covid-19 pandemic hit the global travel industry hard. This partnership will enable Yatra's corporate clients to deliver advanced learning and skill development for their employees, the company said. New Delhi, Apr 1 () Ed-tech platform upGrad on Wednesday said it has appointed Arjun Mohan as its chief executive officer for India operations. The position of the CEO - India at upGrad was unoccupied since its inception. "Mohan brings with him a rich understanding of the online education space, the evolving consumer landscape and keen business acumen," upGrad co-founder and MD Mayank Kumar said. Mohan is Byju's former Chief Business Officer (CBO). He brings over a decade of experience in the edtech sector and was one of the early employees of Think and Learn (which runs Byju's), the statement said. Prior to Byju's, he has worked with Titan Industries, Tata Motors, Tata Realty and Infrastructure Ltd (TRIL) and Sir Dorabji Tata and Allied Trusts. "The current environment (because of COVID-19) is a net positive for online education. We have witnessed a rise in our leads with a spike of 50 per cent, more than the usual.
