<keyword id="6357103" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-traffic-police">Delhi Traffic Police</keyword> has issued a fresh notification superseding all previous orders regarding declarations of speed limits on the roads of NCT of <keyword id="66" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword>. The order shall be published for the information of the general public in the official gazette and by affixing a copy on the notice boards of the office of all District Deputy Commissioner of Police and all Police Stations in Delhi/New Delhi, the notification read. The concerned civic road maintaining agencies shall erect the corresponding informatory sign boards indicating the speed limits at all prominent locations on the road/road stretches in their areas of jurisdiction for guidance and convenience of the road user/general public. This order has come into force with immediate effect from June 8. Unregulated plying of motor vehicles on a high speed on the roads of NCT of Delhi is endangering the life of motorists as well as other road users/commuters and it is necessary to regulate the speed of motor vehicles on the roads of NCT of Delhi for safety of motorists as well as other road users. The notification has been issued by Satyawan Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police/Traffic (Modernization), Delhi in exercise of the powers, conferred u/s 28(1) (b) of Delhi Police Act, 1978 read with Rule 9 (1) of the Delhi Control of Vehicular and Other Traffic on Roads and Streets Regulations, 1980 which revises the maximum speed limit (where road condition permits) for various type of motor vehicles on Delhi roads. For cars, jeeps, taxis, cabs, the maximum speed limit is revised to 70 km per hour on NH-48 (Earlier NH-8) from Parade Road/Gurgaon Road Crossing to Delhi Gurgaon Border, DND Flyover - Mayur Vihar Link Road and NH-44 (Earlier NH-1) from <keyword id="2802822" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singhu-Border">Singhu Border</keyword> to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, Noida Toll Road (The straight stretch from Delhi side upto Toll Gates and from the Toll Gate upto the points where curves lasts), Saleemgarh Bypass Road (Ring Road Bypass). Similarly, it was also revised on NH-9 (Earlier NH-24) from Millennium Park to Gazipur Border, NH-9 (Earlier NH-10) from Ghevra Xing to Tikri Border, Northern Access Road from Red Light NSG to T-Point of Northern Access &amp; Central Spine, Central Spine Road from Mahipalpur Chowk to Terminal III, IGI Airport. A maximum speed of 60 km per hour is prescribed on stretches including NH-44 (Earlier NH-1) from Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar to Mukarba Chowk, Barapulla Nallah Road from Sarai Kale Khan upto Aurobindo Marg Xing, Ring Road from Chandgi Ram Akhara to Azadpur Flyover via ISBT, Rajghat, <keyword id="187137" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITO">ITO</keyword>, Sarai Kale Khan, Ashram Chowk, <keyword id="40458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIIMS">AIIMS</keyword>, DhaulaKuan / Naraina, Punjabi Bagh, Outer Ring Road from Modi Mill Flyover upto Olaf Palme MargNH-8 Xing via Munirka. The speed limit is also revised on Outer Ring Road from District Centre Janakpuri via Peeragarhi, Mukarba Xing via Burari Xing upto Chandgi Ram Akhara, Pushta Road (Marginal Bandh Road) from Noida Border (Chilla Regulator) to New Geeta Colony Grade Separator via Akshardham Flyover, Radisson Road from T-Point Radisson Hotel to Terminal-III, IGI Airport , Terminal-II, IGI Airport Road from T-point of Terminal-II Road and Central Spine to Terminal-II, IGI Airport. A maximum speed for cars of 50 kmph on NH-44 (Earlier NH-1) from Mukarba Chowk to Azadpur Chowk, Ring Road from Azadpur to Chandgi Ram Akhara via Model Town, Kingsway Camp, Mall Road, NH-9 (Earlier NH-10) from Punjabi Bagh to Ghevra Xing, All arterial roads in areas between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, beyond Outer Ring Road, inside Ring Road and entire Trans Yamuna area (except roads which are specifically mentioned in the table). The lowest limit of 30 kmph is directed for All minor roads inside all Residential Areas / Commercial Markets and service roads / service lanes. Delhi revises maximum speed limit for motor vehicles

If all goes well, Delhi might soon be connected to Jaipur through a super expressway. This will reduce the travel time drastically. Highways minister Nitin Gadkari announced this at Dausa in Rajasthan. 
 
The distance between Delhi and Jaipur is 260 km. The proposed super expressway, between the outskirts of Gurgaon and Jaipur, will cover 200 km. It will be impossible to cover this distance in 90 minutes sticking to the notified speed limit, which is 100 kmph for expressways in India (for highways it's 90). Gadkari said the government will notify different speed limits for such super expressways, according to a news report by The Times of India. 
 
Presently it takes almost 6 hours to reach Jaipur. While Haryana government has cleared lands, Gadkari urged Vasundhara Raje to sort out lands in Rajasthan. 
 
G adkari told TOI in Delhi that the present speed limit was fixed at 100 kmph as the country has very few expressways. "We will revise the maximum speed limit. The proposed expressway will take off from the outskirts of Gurgaon and join Jaipur Ring Road (on the outer periphery of the city). We expect this total stretch to be around 200 km. Since it will be access controlled, one can maintain high speed all along the expressway," he said.

The 245 km long Delhi-Chandigarh corridor, one of the busiest routes in northern India, is slated to be first semi- high speed project being taken up by railways to run train at maximum speed of 200 kmph. Railways has identified nine high priority passenger corridors of total 6,400 km including Delhi-Agra, Delhi- Chandigarh to be upgraded to run semi-high speed train service. Delhi-Kanpur, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennai, Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Chennai-Hyderabad and Nagpur- Secunderabad routes have also been identified for raising the speeds of passenger trains to 160/200 kmph. SNCF, the French railways, will submit the execution strategy and implementation model with detailed cost of the semi-high speed project involving upgradation of the 245 km Chandigarh route. The French team is expected to submit the final report with details of cost analysis by October, said a senior <keyword id="54441" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-ministry">Railway Ministry</keyword> official associated with the project. The aim is to reduce the travelling time considerably so it has been decided to upgrade the existing track for running trains at 200 kmph speed and French railways has been asked to prepare the draft document for it, he said. According to a rough estimate, it is likely to cost over Rs 10,000 crore with about Rs 46 cr per kilometre for running trains at 200 kmph, which includes rolling stock, and signal and track upgradation on the Chandigarh corridor. Currently, Shatabdi <keyword id="6413405" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="express">Express</keyword> covers the 245 km distance in about three hours 30 minutes travelling at a maximum speed of 110 kmph. The 200 kmph speed will reduce the journey time to one hour 50 minutes with one stop at Ambala. A high-level French delegation has recently mIndian Railways officials and discussed the possibility of running the semi-high speed trains on the Delhi-Chandigarh sector. It was agreed to explore the upgradation of the existing track to enable 200 kmph speed run, said the official.

The study also found that the average maximum cost of reckless driving tickets in the US is $845, with the cheapest being $100 in states such as Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Ohio. The most expensive maximum fine for reckless driving is approximately $6,250 in Oregon. In Delhi, the government is going to introduce a new policy for Ola and Uber, after which there would be a cap on fares that the customers are charged. 
 
The new policy is, as of now, under consideration by the Aam Aadmi Party government. 
 
"The draft is ready. Soon, it will be put up for public consultation," said Transport Minister Satyendar Jain. 
 
While asked to explain how the tariff and method of charging will be regulated, Jain said, "We have said meters should be there. Tariff will be what the government fixes, though it will be dynamic. They (aggregators) won't be able to impose surge pricing." 
 
The reason behind such policies is the huge amount of losses that black-and-yellow taxis and auto-rickshaws are suffering ever since <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Ubers-merging-with-Didi-Chuxing-in-China/articleshow/53490542.cms">Uber </a>and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Ola-has-done-something-which-will-make-it-way-ahead-of-Uber-Find-out/articleshow/53488024.cms">Ola </a>have started operations in the country.

As reported a few days back, the central government has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/States-to-decide-Ola-and-Uber-meters-fate/articleshow/53499888.cms">authorised the state governments </a>to decide whether mobile app-based taxi aggregators would be charging fares based on digital meters or GPS in the capital.

A California lawmaker has proposed lanes with no speed limit on two of the state's busiest highways

It will take six whole years for the Mumbai­-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor but the Railway Minister says that the fare will be less than airfare. Railway Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> today in <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> said the ambitious project is doable and the highspeed train project would be cost effective too. The high speed bullet train is expected to cover 508 km between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in about two hours, running at a maximum speed of 350 kmph and operating speed of 320 kmph. At present, Duronto Express takes about seven hours to cover the distance between the two financial centres. 
 
Talking about the massive funding received for the particular project, Prabhu said "there was no regional bias. Every state has got more than double than earlier." The high speed rail project has been sanctioned with technical and financial assistance from the government of Japan and the joint feasibility study of the project has already been done by Japanese International Agency. 
 
The 508km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor is estimated to cost about Rs 97,636 crore, 81 per cent of the funding for the project will come in form of a loan from Japan. The project cost includes possible cost escalation, interest during construction and import duties. The project is being funded by Japan with a soft loan for 50 years at 0.1 per cent annual interest with 15 years' moratorium. Rolling stock and other equipment like signalling and power system will be imported from Japan as per the loan agreement. 
 
Railways has spelt out its policy with regard to running of high speed and semi­high speed trains by identification of potential routes for both kinds of train services. Prabhu said feasibility studies for other high speed corridors have been awarded to various railway companies. Delhi­-Mumbai high speed corridor has been awarded to the consortium of the Third Railway Survey and Design Institute Group Corporation (Chinese consultant) and Lahmeyer International from India. Feasibility study of high speed corridors on Mumbai­- Chennai, Delhi­-Kolkata, Delhi­-Nagpur and Mumbai­-Nagpur have also been awarded to different global consultants. 
 
Prabhu said railways have identified nine corridors for feasibility of semi-­high speed rail. Delhi­-Chandigarh, Chennai­-Bengaluru­-Mysore, Delhi­-Kanpur, Nagpur­-Bilaspur, Mumbai-­Goa, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Chennai­-Hyderabad and Nagpur­-Secunderabd are being considered for semi-­high speed routes.

But some of the first commercial applications of autonomous technology may occur in a less glamorous context: low-speed shuttles.The biggest challenge for companies developing self-driving vehicles is to prepare them to make safe, split-second decisions in unfamiliar situations. A shuttle that drives within a limited environment at low speeds will face less uncertainty, and lower stakes if something goes wrong, than the average passenger vehicle. That's the philosophy behind Coast Autonomous, a startup that makes autonomous driving software for low-speed vehicles that operate in controlled environments like airports, campuses, and resorts. The technology can also work in cities if the vehicle is driving in slow-moving traffic or has a dedicated lane.While major auto and tech companies like Alphabet's Waymo, General Motors' Cruise, and Uber have to answer the tricky question of when to make their vehicles stop for an obstacle in the road (stop too often and the passenger will become impatient, stop too infrequently and you increase the potential for a collision), Coast's technology will err on the safe side, stopping for any kind of obstacle it senses before deciding if it should proceed, the company said on its <a href="https://coastautonomous.com/">website</a>.The company says it has demonstrated its technology over 60 times for over 120,000 passengers since 2012, and on July 17, Coast Autonomous brought its Coast P-1 shuttle to Times Square, for what it said was the first instance of an autonomous shuttle operating in Manhattan. The maximum allowed speed through the canal was between 7.6 knots and 8.6 knots, the report said. <a href="https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2021/03/25/world/suez-canal-blockage/">The Japan Times</a> also reported the ship was travelling 13.5 knots, adding that two canal pilots were onboard when the ship hit land. The Ever Given didn't have a tugboat escort through the canal, according to Bloomberg. The two ships immediately ahead of it reportedly had escorts, although such escorts were not required. The 1,300-foot container ship <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-suez-canal-blocked-container-ship-for-a-day-2021-3">ran aground</a> early Tuesday morning amid <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ship-stuck-in-suez-canal-due-winds-sandstorms-possible-blackout-2021-3">high winds and a dust storm</a>. Apparently, at least one ship decided to wait until the wind subsided to make the canal trip. "Initial investigations suggest the vessel grounded due to strong wind," Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, the ship's technical manager, said in <a href="https://www.bs-shipmanagement.com/en/media/1-media-statement">a statement</a>. The company said its "initial investigations rule out any mechanical or engine failure as a cause of the grounding."One ship captain unaffiliated with the grounding spoke with Bloomberg. And American policymakers would do well to understand why North Korea is so heavily involved in these encrypted digital currencies, and the implications of their involvement.North Korea's new digital currency will be "more like bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies," said Alejandro Cao de Benos, who is both a North Korean official and a Spanish national long fond of the despotic regime."We are still in the very early stages in the creation of the token," he <a href="https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/9ke3ae/north-korea-is-building-its-own-bitcoin" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/9ke3ae/north-korea-is-building-its-own-bitcoin&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1569509462116000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF8WSq1u3qg26WFPCpYBL5v6HpGpw">added</a>. "Now we are in the phase of studying the goods that will give value to it."<h2>How do cryptocurrencies work?</h2>Normal financial transactions are centralized. When you write a check to someone else, for example, your check is used by that other person's bank to go to the Federal Reserve and withdraw money from your bank's account at the Fed. Because the transaction flows through the Federal Reserve, which acts as an intermediary, this is a centralized ledger: The Fed stands between the two banks and acts as a neutral party in their transactions.Bitcoin, on the other hand, is a computer code that allows a decentralized payment ledger. Bitcoin's computer code keeps track of who owns what and when all on its own. It does this by incentivizing owners of computing power to "solve" a mathematical equation each time a bitcoin changes hands.Once that mathematical equation is solved, a new set of code-which says who owns each bitcoin-is added to the previous set of code. This chain of code is called the "blockchain." And because no one person owns or single-handedly tracks the blockchain, the process of clearing and settlement has been democratized, and decentralized.This accomplishes two things. It removes counterparty risk, so the buyer and seller don't need to trust one another, and it removes third party risk-the owners of bitcoin don't need to trust the computers clearing and settling bitcoin transactions (though bitcoins can still be stolen from an exchange, which is a separate matter).This decentralization is incredibly valuable to a sanctioned country like North Korea. America's sanctions power flows from the dollar being the <a href="https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/stop-wasting-american-power-on-sanctions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/stop-wasting-american-power-on-sanctions/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1569509462116000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFuwGETkmR_PRCaaMLpjRxgdbBJAw">world's reserve currency</a>, and the power this gives the American banking system.Because the US government controls the Fed, which controls the dollar, the US government has sway over a large portion of international transactions. Because doing business with North Korea means getting cut off from access to dollars and the US (and therefore global) banking system, any bank or company wishing to stay above board must avoid North Korea altogether.Yes, bitcoins can be tracked, especially when sent through regulated exchanges. But it is much harder to track cryptocurrencies than it is to track dollars. And using cryptocurrencies helps North Korea circumvent the American-centric financial system that gives America its sanctions power.<h2>The limits of 'maximum pressure'</h2>That's why North Korea has long used bitcoin to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-11/north-korea-hackers-step-up-bitcoin-attacks-amid-rising-tensions" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-11/north-korea-hackers-step-up-bitcoin-attacks-amid-rising-tensions&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1569509462116000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEe7QmCFU4EiVa8JMbQEP94FZdLTA">dodge sanctions</a>. For example, North Korea makes money via <a href="https://www.fifthdomain.com/opinion/2019/09/17/nows-the-time-to-respond-to-north-korean-cyber-operations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.fifthdomain.com/opinion/2019/09/17/nows-the-time-to-respond-to-north-korean-cyber-operations/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1569509462116000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGmXOEgnmcoG4nxlzozIakgdUfecA">hacking</a>, and cryptocurrencies help North Korea launder that money and put it to work for other uses. Aside from talking up moves to create its own digital currency, the rogue state held its first ever blockchain and cryptocurrency <a href="https://www.fifthdomain.com/opinion/2019/09/17/nows-the-time-to-respond-to-north-korean-cyber-operations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.fifthdomain.com/opinion/2019/09/17/nows-the-time-to-respond-to-north-korean-cyber-operations/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1569509462116000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGmXOEgnmcoG4nxlzozIakgdUfecA">conference</a> in April. Meanwhile, Russia, Venezuela, and Iran have a similar interest in cryptocurrencies-all for the purpose of sanctions evasion.The implication for America is that this cat-and-mouse game makes economic sanctions campaigns hard to sustain-and it increases the cost on the US of employing such coercive measures. The more Washington resorts to broad sanctions-not targeted on specific regime officials or entities but at a foreign economy more generally-the more countries like North Korea, and even our European allies, will develop means of evasion.Aside from this, sanctions are usually <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/08/02/do-sanctions-work-the-evidence-isnt-compelling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/08/02/do-sanctions-work-the-evidence-isnt-compelling/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1569509462116000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFA836oNXyc0635OWS1G_Y4KhiGSQ">ineffective at achieving their desired goals</a>. But the efficacy of broad sanctions is just one reason why Washington should use the blunt force of broad sanctions far more sparingly than it does.The other reason? US politicians and officials seem to think that using sanctions is a win-win. They are wrong. Over time, <a href="https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/stop-wasting-american-power-on-sanctions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/stop-wasting-american-power-on-sanctions/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1569509462116000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFuwGETkmR_PRCaaMLpjRxgdbBJAw">sanctions power wanes</a>. Overusing sanctions, especially broad sanctions, encourages countries to build their own institutions and systems outside of America and the dollar. In this way, sanctions chip away at dollar dominance, threatening to severely reduce US power.There's already proof of this, and cryptocurrencies used by Russia, Iran, and North Korea are but one piece of this equation. Already, China is buying Iranian oil priced in Chinese renminbi (RMB) rather than petrodollars. Russia, while selling China natural gas, has agreed to issue RMB-denominated bonds. And even Europe has examined ways to escape US secondary sanctions to buy oil from Iran, keeping it in the JCPOA.None of this should be taken to mean the dollar's dominance will soon end-but it won't be the world's reserve currency forever. Abusing sanctions hastens this inevitable decline.Broad, "maximum pressure" sanctions erode US dominance. Just like using missiles or troops, there are consequences for the overuse of sanctions, often unseen or difficult to measure.
