Tablet shipments recorded a year-on-year growth of 20.4% in Q3 2024, after reporting a 22.1% year-on-year growth in Q2 2024. According to a report by IDC, 39.6 million tablets were shipped worldwide in Q3 2024, up from 32.9 million devices shipped in Q3 2023. While the tablet market is not expected to reach the levels recorded during the pandemic with an increase in online education and work-from-home, the increase in shipments is part of a refresh cycle. "There are several appealing opportunities for vendors to increase their presence in the tablet market - collaboration with educational institutions, entertainment and gaming, cross-device Amazon is back in the top five, occupying the third position with 4.6 million devices shipped in Q3 2024, up from 2.2 million devices shipped in Q3 2023, recording a 109.1% growth, making it the company to record the highest growth. Worldwide tablet shipments grow by 20.4% in Q3 2024, Apple leads with over 31% market share

<ul class="summary-list"><li>New streaming sign-up figures suggest the new Max-Hulu-Disney+ bundle is off to a good start.</li><li>Each of those streaming services gained ground at an abnormally high clip in August.</li></ul>Old rivals in the media industry <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/streaming-bundle-max-disney-hulu-warner-bros-discovery-wbd-netflix-2024-6">have formed new alliances</a> as the streaming wars rage on — and their efforts appear to be paying off.Earlier this summer, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disney-warner-bros-discovery-hulu-max-streaming-bundle-package-2024-5">Warner Bros. Discovery teamed up with Disney</a> to create an anticipated Max-Hulu-Disney+ bundle, which <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/deals/disney-hulu-max-bundle-2024-7">launched in late July</a> for $17 per month. So far, it looks like both media giants' streaming businesses are benefiting from the partnership.This supercharged bundle drove the most monthly sign-ups for Disney+ since last November, according to new data from research firm Antenna shared with Business Insider on Monday afternoon. Hulu and Max each had their third-strongest month in that span, Antenna found. The services logged between 158,000 and 277,000 sign-ups in the US in August, per the data.Other major streaming services didn't enjoy that same late-summer bump. In fact, Netflix's July and August subscriber sign-up numbers in the US were its two lowest in the last 12 months, and the same was true of Paramount+ in August. Peacock still generated subscribers at an above-average rate, largely thanks to its exclusive Olympics streaming rights in the US.This all suggests that WBD and Disney's streamers are gaining at the expense of rival services.Disney+ accounted for 13% of sign-ups to streaming services in the US in August, which was tied for the highest rate in the last 12 months. Hulu's 16% figure also matched its best rate since last fall, while Max pulled in 14% of US streamer sign-ups — its second-best clip in the last year.WBD and Disney didn't respond to requests for comment.<h2 id="02c896a7-5ee2-4339-8565-57ffdb654e23">Don't be fooled by spiking churn rates</h2>The logic behind WBD and Disney's streaming partnership is simple: By combining Max with the core of the popular Disney bundle, the two companies can attract new customers, save on marketing costs, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/streaming-bundle-max-disney-hulu-warner-bros-discovery-wbd-netflix-2024-6">and reduce the churn that plagues each of their businesses</a>.<div type="image" title="Antenna streaming churn Q2 2024" height="540" width="1080" msid="113610130" hostid="261" sizebytes="32560"></div>If the Max-Hulu-Disney+ bundle works as designed, subscribers will stick around throughout the year instead of canceling when the new season of their favorite shows ends, and churn rates should fall.That hasn't happened so far, though there may be a reason for that.Disney+ had a 3.9% churn rate in August, according to Antenna, which is well below the industry's weighted average churn rate of 5.2% but in line with where it's been since the spring.In August, Hulu's cancellation rate rose to its highest level since January, and Max's churn rate jumped to its highest mark since November. Such changes could always be seasonal patterns, though a closer look suggests that there's another explanation.When taken in the context of Antenna's other data, it looks like some Hulu and Max customers are canceling their subscriptions so they can subscribe to the Max-Hulu-Disney+ bundle without paying twice. That would explain why all three services' subscriber counts rose in August, despite what initially seems like discouraging churn data.And although WBD and Disney would prefer that their customers pay full price for their streamers, switching to the bundle could be better in the long run. Average revenue per subscriber may take a hit, but the revenue that does come in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/streaming-bundle-max-disney-hulu-warner-bros-discovery-wbd-netflix-2024-6">should be more dependable</a>.The Max-Hulu-Disney+ bundle is one of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/streaming-bundle-cable-tv-comcast-netflix-max-hulu-peter-kafka-2024-5">several streaming packages that media giants have conjured up</a>. Comcast put Peacock with fellow streamers Netflix and Apple TV+ at a cheaper rate, and Disney has long offered its own bundles of Disney+ and Hulu, and bundles with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/espn-streaming-disney-venu-sports-bundle-business-strategy-john-lasker-2024-8">sports streamer ESPN+</a>.Streaming bundles aren't going anywhere — especially if they're as successful as WBD and Disney's appears to be so far.

The Max-Hulu-Disney+ bundle seems to be off to a strong start

<ul class="summary-list"><li>European stocks are pricing in a Trump win, Barclays said.</li><li>Exporters have underperformed the broader European market by 15% since spring.</li></ul>With the US election less than two weeks away, European stocks have already been pricing in a Donald Trump victory, according to Barclays.The firm noted that a basket of European exporters — or those companies most vulnerable to tariffs — has underperformed the benchmark European Stoxx 600 by 15% since early spring.Barclays says this is reflective of investors preemptively bracing for Trump's tariff policy, which has been a cornerstone of his presidential-election platform, under the expectation he will win.<div type="image" title="Barclays chart showing how stocks exposed to tariffs have underperformed the broader index" height="1670" width="2136" msid="114514786" hostid="261" sizebytes="87238"></div>"Tariff concerns have been a drag on EU equities' relative performance year-to-date," Barclays analysts led by Emmanuel Cau wrote on Wednesday. "In the event of a full-blown trade war, we could see up to a high single-digit drag on EPS growth with Germany, Italy, Cap Goods, Autos, Beverages, Tech, Chemicals most at risk."Barclays did note that some European firms have relocated production to the US since 2018, which could somewhat limit the impact of Trump's trade policy on the whole market. But it's still worried about the possible side effects."The second-order impact through lower growth and higher inflation (i.e. stagflation) could be more severe, in particular in the case of retaliation and a trade war," Barclays wrote.The US will also feel the impact. The firm forecasts Trump tariffs will be a 3.2% drag on S&amp;P 500 earnings-per-share next year, with the most negative impact affecting materials, discretionary, industrials, technology, and healthcare. Beyond that, retaliatory measures would generate an additional 1.5% hit to forward EPS.The note suggested a possible rebound for Europe's markets if Kamala Harris wins. Her policy would also boost clean and renewables in the region, which have also underperformed on the chances of a Trump win.

One global market is already pricing in a Trump victory

The gross revenue was Rs 1,827 crore, reflecting a growth of +17 per cent over the same quarter of the previous year. All hospitals improved their average revenue per occupied bed (ARPOB) during the period and the overall average growth in ARPOB stood at 13 per cent year-on-year. Cash flow from operations stood at Rs 436 crore during the quarter, of which Rs 90 crore was spent on ongoing capacity expansion projects. International patient revenue grew by 25 over the same period of the previous year and +11 per cent compared to the preceding quarter. The share of international patient revenues stood at 9 per cent of the hospital revenue during the quarter.

What can we learn from those companies' challenges, and how might they impact the next round of healthcare IPOs?The whipsaw of the public markets over the last five years has created a challenging backdrop, even with the overall market improving.From 2019 through 2021, nearly 20 companies went public through IPOs or SPACs in healthtech. At its peak, the total market cap for healthtech and digital health was over $300 billion. Through both take-privates and declines in share prices, that's down to just about $90 billion.Large take-privates like Change Healthcare, Nuance, Cerner, Inovalon, and others are part of the story. The other part is that, on average, the companies that went public or were already public are down by about 80% — names like Teladoc, Accolade, and Health Catalyst.The enthusiasm that supported the last wave, with respect to the positive and innovative business models in healthtech and digital health, is not gone. It's just that these companies haven't been able to achieve growth with profitability. When there's a next set, there's going to be more of a focus on growth and profitability.You see that in the IPOs that happened this year: Waystar and Tempus. Waystar is large-scale, profitable, with growth, and Tempus has the promise of AI, high growth, and emerging profitability. Both have performed since their public debut.In the private sphere, many investors have leaned away from healthcare services and into healthcare AI. What models do you expect the healthcare market to favor in this next round of IPOs?There are three general categories that are investible in healthtech and digital healthcare. One is simply data and then technology and healthcare. Healthcare is arguably two decades behind every other industry in the adoption of technology. Whether it's software, tech-enabled models, or, importantly, the data opportunity and AI opportunity, tech and data infrastructure for healthcare is No. 1.No. 2 is consumer-centric models, such as some B2B2C models, the employer and payer digital-health models, or even direct-to-consumer models. The companies with consumer-centric business models that deliver longitudinal engagement and outcomes, financial and clinical, for consumers and the payers of healthcare, both employers and insurance companies, are certainly on the list.No. 3 is value-based care. Much has been made of that as a category, tying together costs and outcomes. And while some of the brick-and-mortar value-based care companies have had their own challenges, support for the adoption of value-based care by providers will continue to be where healthcare is going.Are there models in healthcare that you think are perhaps not the best fit for the public markets right now?The less complex the elevator pitch, the better. While I can't say there's a model that's not a fit, what we heard from investors as things were bending in the wrong direction last boom cycle was: "Wait, what did I just buy? I'm not sure I fully understand this company's business model."Now you have to juxtapose that against the reality of healthcare, which is complex. So it's companies that can articulate a clear and simple story while also navigating the layers of the healthcare ecosystem in executing on their business model.That includes riding the existing rails. In the last five-plus years we've seen companies figuring out how to work with the payers and providers that make up the healthcare ecosystem to bring innovation and disruption to how we experience healthcare.Given the major slowdown in SPAC deals in the past few years and Nuvo's poor performance (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-08-22/newly-public-pregnancy-care-firm-nuvo-files-for-bankruptcy">and bankruptcy</a>) this year, could we see more SPAC deals for healthcare startups next year?It's a four-letter word for the foreseeable future. I imagine there will be SPACs created, and there are still others that haven't run out of time, but it's unlikely that we see companies using that vehicle that could go public the regular way.For startups that don't go public, will we see M&amp;A pick up in 2025? With large retailers like Walmart pulling away from healthcare, who are the potential buyers?M&amp;A is picking up already, as evidenced by volume this year, and it will continue to, particularly in an easing financing environment and macro backdrop where bid-ask spreads are narrowing.The consolidation activity is in three categories. First, there are the large-cap consolidators including retailers, payers, and Big Tech. There will be deals there, but there are only so many that will be done by that group, which is not much more than a dozen companies.The next is large-cap, and often private-equity-backed, healthtech consolidators. A number of them are private and will continue to be buyers.The third category is just smaller mergers of equals. Especially for enterprise sales, selling into payers or selling to providers, scale matters, and so size matters. We'll see small companies merge with other small companies to get there.Anything else startups should know that might impact this next cycle of IPOs?While these companies that went public in the last cycle may not have fulfilled their promises, they set the stage for an attractive IPO market by going public the right way — executing on the business and growing it, and increasing awareness around the company well in advance of an IPO.At the back end of the last boom wave there was a rush to go public, and SPACs were examples of that. I think that in the 2025, 2026, and 2027 IPO classes, there will be a number of companies that think about it the right way, not rushing to get to the public market.

They had been living in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/people-stunned-price-of-palo-alto-california-home-for-sale-2024-5">California</a>, where Zach — who was originally from Scotland — was working with the highway patrol. Because of his job, the couple and their three kids had to move frequently throughout the state. Although they had a chance to live in places such as Sonoma County and around <keyword id="19915272" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="silicon-valley" source="keywords">Silicon Valley</keyword>, life always felt "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reasons-i-left-silicon-valley-california-after-two-years-2023-12">extremely fast-paced</a>," Annie, who works in healthcare, told Business Insider. "Life just seemed to be work — or school for the kids — a little break and then repeat. They wanted to live a simpler life with their kids, away from the rat race and the pressure to constantly <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millionaire-investing-saving-spending-financial-independence-retire-early-fire-2024-9">keep up with the Joneses.</a> Annie had always wanted to live in Scotland, and late last year — after a decade of living in California — it finally seemed like the right time for their family to seriously consider taking the plunge. <h2>Preparing for the move</h2>In a way, the move felt like it had been 10 years in the making. "Ever since I met Zach, I've wanted to live in Scotland. It's just been me slowly wearing him down and trying to get him to come back," Annie said. The timing for their move was right, in part because their kids were still young. "We knew if we were ever going to make the move, we had to move before our kids established true friend groups and got too far in their academics to where that transition would be difficult," Annie said. The couple knew they wanted to be in the East Lothian area just outside Edinburgh because it was near where Zach grew up. It was also a place that their kids were familiar with. "We made an effort pretty much every year, apart from during COVID-19, to travel back to Scotland," Zach said. "So when we said that we were moving to Scotland, they were all for it for the most part." While Zach and their kids had UK passports, Annie had to apply for a spousal visa, which she said took about two months to be approved. Then came the exciting part: looking for a <keyword id="7173" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="house" source="Orion">house</keyword>. Thankfully, the process wasn't too hard, even though they were still living in California at the time. <div type="image" title="Zach and Annie moved from California to Scotland with their three young kids." height="4284" width="5712" msid="113889826" hostid="261"></div>"Annie's hobby is looking at houses all around the world, she's constantly browsing for fun," Zach said. When the listing for a cozy three-bedroom house came up, the couple jumped on the opportunity. "When it popped up, I thought it was ridiculously underpriced," Annie said. "It was actually the only house that Zach's parents went and toured for us." At Zach's parents' encouragement, the couple decided to put in an offer for the house and ended up getting it. <div type="image" title="A cabinet in the corner of a living room." height="5712" width="4284" msid="113889825" hostid="261"></div>They preferred to keep the exact amount private but said they paid about 15% more than the original asking price of about £200,000, or about $265,000. "Budget-wise, our goal was always to try to not have this huge mortgage hanging over our head. It was something we felt we had in the States, especially in California, where house prices are crazy," Zach said. <h2>Getting settled into their home</h2>Zack and Annie are part of a wave of California residents who are choosing to leave the state. Between 2021 and 2022, 817,669 people left California — making it the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-states-americans-are-moving-to-florida-texas-california-2023-10">US state with the most people moving out</a>. Several former residents that BI previously spoke to said rising crime rates and the high cost of living were factors in their decision to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reasons-why-californians-are-leaving-the-state">leave California</a>. <div type="image" title="The dining area and kitchen." height="4284" width="5712" msid="113889828" hostid="261"></div>Zack and Annie closed on the house in February, but only arrived in Scotland with their kids in May. Since the couple bought their house without viewing it in person, they were a little concerned that it would feel too small for their family of five. "We just moved from a pretty large four-bedroom house that's at least 2,000 square feet in the States to about 950 square feet in Scotland," Annie said. "That's a big change. But when we walked in, the rooms were all really nicely sized, and they just felt right." They spent about two months renovating the place while living with Zach's parents. It wasn't until late July that they finally moved into their new house. <div type="image" title="The dining area." height="1562" width="1179" msid="113889823" hostid="261"></div>"The kids never saw the house unfinished. The moment they stepped in the door, their room was decorated and they had their beds set up with all their toys on it," Annie said. "They walk in and they think everything's beautiful when we actually shed blood, sweat, and tears trying to make it a home, but it was definitely worth it." It's also really easy for the family to get around their neighborhood on foot. The main street of their town — where there are cafés, shops, and a grocery store — is only a 10-minute walk away, Annie said. "We have trails just outside our doorstep where the kids can go explore. There are beaches not too far away," she said, adding that there's no need for a car unless they're driving the kids to their grandparents' place. <div type="image" title="The bathroom." height="4032" width="3024" msid="113889821" hostid="261"></div>"It's a process to get every child loaded up in a car, so we wanted to reduce that as much as possible. And now we just walk to everything we do, and I feel we're healthier for it," she said. If they're ever feeling up for a small adventure, they can easily drive 20 minutes to the various small towns around them, Zach said. "Whereas in the States, if we wanted to go do something different or outside our little area, it's probably a 45-minute drive and then it becomes more of a day trip," he said. <h2>A simple life</h2>The couple says that life in Scotland is simpler — which is exactly what they were looking for. Even though they've only been here for a few months, the couple says they feel more content with life in Scotland — so much so that they even started a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/@SimpleScottishLiving">YouTube channel</a> documenting their adventures in the country. <div type="image" title="A man and a woman gaze lovingly at each other in front of a stone building." height="632" width="843" msid="113889829" hostid="261"></div>Although the couple enjoyed living in the US, life in Scotland reminded them of their own childhoods. Typically, 75% of my medical expenses are fully reimbursable.The costs I do pay are much lower than what I'm used to in the US. Still, some areas of the economy are already seeing a lift in response to the news — and the fact that the Fed went with the larger of the two most likely options under consideration. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/comparing-lowes-vs-home-depot-2023-12">Home improvement retailers,</a> in particular, are among the companies who were primed to come out of the gate strong with a rate cut, and, true to form, shares for Home Depot and Lowe's were up as of Thursday's market close. "Home-related companies should soon see the beginnings of fundamental recovery exiting this year," Mizuho analyst David Bellinger told Business Insider. "Aside from any initial noise in the market, Home Depot and Lowe's should keep grinding higher as all this comes together." And while a rising <keyword id="19998639" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stock-price" source="keywords">stock price</keyword> carries its own benefits for a company, the uptick is a signal of a much more important change still to come: sales. Executives for both Home Depot and Lowe's have characterized their businesses as being constrained by low housing turnover and high borrowing costs, both of which are results of the Fed's tight interest rate policy. Home Depot CFO Richard McPhail described his company's core customer as having "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/home-depot-earnings-americans-in-deferral-mindset-consumer-spending-2024-8">a deferral mindset</a>" in spite of being in a generally healthy financial position. In short, most <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/americans-doing-less-diy-worrying-sign-economy-lowes-earnings-2024-8">big-ticket spending on home improvement</a> comes from one of two places: people buying and selling homes and homeowners renovating existing homes with borrowed money. Unless they have to fix something urgently, a lot of folks have decided they're better off waiting to upgrade. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell talked about the impact on the <keyword id="20759748" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="housing-market" source="keywords">housing market</keyword> in his remarks following Wednesday's announcement. "The housing market is in part frozen because of lock-in with low rates. People don't want to sell their home," he said. "As rates come down, people will start to move more, and that's probably beginning to happen already." What's more, Powell signaled in his speech that further cuts are likely if the data support them, which can encourage some of those sitting on the sidelines to go ahead with a new mortgage or credit line with the expectation that they can simply <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/personal-loans/how-to-refinance-personal-loan">refinance</a> in a few months when rates come down further. Additionally, Home Depot and Lowe's have taken great care to manage investor expectations through the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lowes-dicks-macys-sound-alarm-us-shoppers-spending-2023-8">slumping sales and slimmer profits</a> over the past year. In particular, both companies <a target="_blank" class="c-link" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/home-depot-1-billion-wage-boost-improved-worker-safety-satisfaction-2023-5">continued to invest in their stores</a> with the expectation that pent-up demand would eventually be unlocked. (Truist Securities analyst Scot Ciccarelli has referred several times to a "coiled spring" for the retailers.) Max Rakhlenko, a TD Securities analyst, said in a note on Wednesday that Lowe's management was expecting a "phased recovery" in which homeowners start with smaller projects before getting more comfortable with larger ones that require tapping into their house's equity. "We're aggressively working in this downturn," Lowe's CEO Marvin Ellison said during his earnings call last month, adding, "Whenever the macro inflection occurs, we just want to be ready to take advantage of it." Home Depot and Lowe's are already seeing the first of many likely benefits from the Fed's rate cut

It was an easy decision: Apple's iPhone excelled at all the phone jobs I needed, from good pictures to running dozens of apps to lasting a busy workday.The $999 iPhone X I bought also felt groundbreaking at the time: The nearly edge-to-edge screen was a joy to use, and Face ID made it easy to log in and authenticate digital payments.In the years since, my screen time has shot up. I do everything on my phone: reading books, catching up on TV shows, doing the daily crossword. I was spending more time on my handheld than on my computer. And it was all giving me a headache, possibly worsening my myopia. The iPhone's screen size was too limiting for the smartphone's evolving role in my life.<h2 id="e5ecc015-7fe8-4ef1-85c5-0dcb4b8d8783">Apple upgrades were uninspiring </h2>My iPhone's cameras and performance improved with upgrades. I appreciate the iPhone 13's better photography system and the iPhone 15's universal USB-C port. But the model I own today is fundamentally the same device I used years ago. Such a lack of differentiation made me less inclined to invest another $1,000 to upgrade my iPhone, which I tend to do every two years.I had a Kindle and an iPad but couldn't carry them everywhere. Switching back and forth between devices was a chore, and I often ended up doing what I'd reserved the iPad for on my iPhone.I also considered the "max" iPhone, but it just seemed like an uncomfortably large screen without offering much in return. Apple's mobile software didn't have any special features for larger displays.<h2 id="ba359e63-6ae3-4c01-8894-d04d86b2c3cb">I was intrigued by foldable smartphones</h2><div type="image" title="iPhone 15 compared to the Honor Magic V3" height="2548" width="3395" msid="114583512" hostid="261" sizebytes="211792"></div>Unsurprisingly, I was tempted by phone makers' advancements with folding displays. A typical handheld folds out to reveal a tablet-sized screen. As someone who writes about phones for a living, I got to try a few, but the tech a couple of years ago wasn't convincing enough to replace my iPhone. Their designs were too thick, fragile, and heavy. That is until earlier this year, when Apple decided it wouldn't bring its latest AI features to its one-year-old iPhone 15 models, forcing me to look for alternatives. Honor, a China-based phone brand, released its Magic V3, the thinnest and lightest foldable phone on the market. Here's why I bought it, despite its astronomical <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.honor.com/uk/phones/honor-magic-v3/buy/?srsltid=AfmBOorLiqaY1v1P2O-KLIeGLobxGdd6Cy0g5G6Ixvsae9ARlCSPLbEJ">£1,699 price tag</a>, around $2,205 — more than double what I paid for my iPhone 15 in 2023.<h2 id="d0df618b-0b66-4623-9f84-8f4b0d620899">The thinness of the model sold me </h2>While it was over £500 more than what I had paid for a new phone in the past, the amount of time I now spend on my phone justified the investment. This phone is "book-style," unfolding horizontally like a book. It's not officially available in the US yet, but in Europe and the UK, it's sold in Three and Vodafone stores, in addition to the official Honor website. Honor has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.canalys.com/newsroom/europe-smartphone-market-Q1-2024">doubled</a> its market share in Europe this year.The thinness of the model sold me. I could take advantage of its folding form factor without compromising on ergonomics.Even with its two screen halves folded, it's 9.3mm thick — far slimmer than other foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 at 12.1mm, and nearly the same as a traditional top-of-the-line phone, on average 8.4mm. Unfolded, the Magic V3 is 4.4mm thin, half the width of the latest iPhone 16. <div type="image" title="iPhone 13 Pro and the Honor Magic V3" height="2599" width="3110" msid="114583516" hostid="261" sizebytes="202092"></div>As with any other smartphone, the Honor Magic V3 has a tall 6.43-inch screen that dominates the front. This screen suffices for most tasks, like calling someone or responding to texts. But when I want extra room for reading an article or streaming Netflix, I can fold it out like a book to a wide 8-inch inner display. Whatever app or content I was browsing on the outer screen automatically expands to fill the extended space.The folding panel is crease-less. The company's Android-based software makes it possible to leverage the larger screen. If I'm researching for a vacation, I can stick my notes on one side and a web browser on another and work on them side-by-side.I can multitask like I would on my desktop computer or iPad. It even turns into a mini laptop, with the bottom screen working as a large touch keyboard.<h2 id="6b405e8c-37e3-4b71-b733-1095313e9cb1">It's eliminated my need for multiple devices</h2>It wasn't difficult to migrate my data onto an Android, and now iMessage is supported, I wasn't missing out on messaging capabilities. I was already using Google Photos to back up my mediaAfter a couple of weeks, the Magic V3 even replaced my Kindle. The phone has an e-book mode with eye-friendly tools, and a Do Not Disturb mode so I can disconnect from notifications while reading. Its inner screen is better for reading books, and the dedicated e-book mode applies a monochrome filter throughout the software. Allies of her campaign have been privately courting business leaders during the Democratic National Convention this week to make the case for why the VP could be fruitful for Corporate America, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/08/21/harris-business-allies-taxes-trump.html">CNBC</a> reported Wednesday.Harris has presented herself as a pro-business promising to make things easier for newcomer entrepreneurs by cutting "needless bureaucracy and unnecessary regulatory red tape." While also courting and getting support from labor unions.However, the vice president has not rolled out a detailed economic plan. Critics have said that the proposals released so far on <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/grocery-costs-inflation-kamala-harris-ban-price-gouging-election-trump-2024-8">price-gouging bans</a> or <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kamala-harris-economy-proposal-25k-first-time-homebuyers-down-payent-2024-8">first-time homebuyer subsidies</a> are light on specifics, while policies, like a hike on corporate taxes, are a carryover from the Biden administration.In broad strokes, the campaign has so far focused on <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-trade-vs-kamala-harris-opportunity-economy-policies-market-impact-2024-8">support for middle and lower-income Americans</a>, Business Insider's Laila Maidan reported.A spokesperson for the Harris campaign did not respond to a request for comment.Cuban has already expressed support for Harris and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mark-cuban-kamala-harris-donald-trump-economic-plans-2024-8">defended some of her policy proposals</a>. "She knows what she doesn't and is willing to listen to business(es), from the smallest corner yogurt shop to the giants of industry."<h2 id="0ee1f35f-b722-450b-9b5f-9024081c968b">Support for employees</h2>Cuban argued that Harris is a pro-business candidate who wants to support companies and businesses while also lifting up their employees."She wants all businesses to succeed," Cuban wrote. He plans on working two or three more years before returning to Seattle, where he lived before moving abroad.George is a "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-retirement-of-peak-boomers-could-affect-economy-social-security-2024-4">peak boomer</a>," meaning he's part of the "largest and final cohort" of baby boomers to turn 65 this year and enter retirement age, according to a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.protectedincome.org/peak65-economic-impact-forum/">report</a> from the Alliance for Lifetime Income's Retirement Income Institute. Many peak boomers are getting strategic about their retirement strategies and when they would <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boomer-waiting-collect-social-security-higher-benefit-retirement-no-savings-2024-7">start collecting Social Security benefits</a> in the hopes of getting more bang for their buck. George is one of those individuals: he plans on retiring when he's 67 or 68 to get his <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/agereduction.html">full Social Security benefits</a>, which for him, will start when he's 66 and 10 months.Additionally, America's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-cutting-medicare-social-security-benefits-2024-3">Medicare benefits</a> and being near family are factors driving his decision to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reverse-culture-shock-moving-back-to-america-asia-singapore-2023-12">retire in the US.</a>"I don't see myself staying here permanently when I have family back home," said George, who asked to use his middle name due to privacy concerns. "Even outside of Medicare, I just feel that healthcare is better," he said.George hasn't given up his American citizenship, and his wife, who lives in Germany with him, is a citizen of the Philippines. He's on a work visa and files with insurance to access Germany's national healthcare services.While he said the healthcare system is great on average, it's becoming more difficult to manage the bureaucracy of insurance filings as an American abroad. That headache could grow even more tedious as he gets older and will likely need more care.George had surgery on one knee in 2015 and is trying to schedule surgery on his other knee for this fall. But, he said he is facing hurdles, such as certain rehabilitation hospitals opting not to treat US citizens for insurance concerns. It makes him even more eager to return to the US."You spend a lot of spare time working things out that are so much easier in the US, especially if you're on Medicare," he said. "You just want to go back home so you don't have to deal with it all."George shared the differences between living in America and Germany, and which aspects he's not ready to give up as he prepares to move back.<h2 id="2676068a-b627-4fa0-a3b6-cf4eccd4301a">The ease of traveling through Europe makes up for the healthcare headaches</h2>George has worked as an engineer at the same company for over 30 years and began taking small work trips overseas in the 2000s. For privacy reasons, he asked not to disclose the company's name.He moved to Saudi Arabia in 2014 to work on overseas projects for a US company. In 2017, he transferred to Munich for a new project, where he's been living ever since.George said many aspects of life in Munich are preferable to the US, including less <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.healthdata.org/news-events/insights-blog/acting-data/gun-violence-united-states-outlier">gun violence</a> and the beauty of the Alps in his backyard. He also said the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/german-vs-american-work-life-differences-according-to-us-mom-2024-4">quality of life</a> is better for him, particularly because it's a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.timeout.com/news/this-european-city-has-been-named-the-worlds-most-walkable-041224">walkable</a>, cycle-friendly city.He lives in a rented apartment with his wife near the English Garden, a 375-hectare public park packed with architectural sights and a beer garden. He said it's one of the aspects of the city he'll miss the most.Germany's infrastructure is also <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/rankings/well-developed-infrastructure">better</a> compared to the US, George said, including the transportation system. "You can pretty much get anywhere by train or bus within Germany," George said.However, one of his favorite trips is driving south of Germany through the Dolomite Mountains in Italy."There is nothing, in my opinion, like a drive from Germany to Italy," George said. "Those kinds of things I'll miss the most."George said he's enjoyed learning about the cultural quirks of Germany, like Steckerlfisch, a roasted fish often served as a street food. He said he enjoys people-watching and drinking German beer — hefeweizen in warmer and pilsner in cooler seasons.He also enjoys working with people from around the world and appreciates the international atmosphere in the office.<h2 id="80fc0376-1e4a-4898-bc84-a4f6c384325c">Cost of living in Munich</h2>George said German consumers are still managing the effects of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/europe/german-inflation-confirmed-28-may-2024-06-12/">cooling inflation</a>, similar to Americans. Additionally, the main cost of living concern in Munich is <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-07-19/berlin-and-munich-face-rent-surge-as-buying-becomes-costlier">housing</a>.He said utilities are particularly expensive, and he's seen an uptick in electricity and gas <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/selected-issues-papers/Issues/2023/07/24/Impact-of-High-Energy-Prices-on-Germanys-Potential-Output-536837">prices</a> since the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.However, day-to-day food at the grocery store is relatively cheaper than what he'd buy in the US.George said he does miss things about the US, like the quality of red meat he'd buy at the supermarket. He said the US has more variety and more goods imported from countries around the world, particularly when it comes to seasonal produce.One of the best aspects of Munich is the ease of flying internationally, George said."Living here, it's easy to travel to these other places because it's as if you're traveling from New York to Chicago," George said. "I can go for a weekend to Mallorca or Sicily or Dubai."Before he retires to the US, he said he'll try to appreciate all the perks of living abroad."I'm able to travel and enjoy that right now," George said.
