It wet leases planes to airlines — meaning it provides planes as well as crew and other services — typically during peak travel periods.It has a fleet of 220 aircraft and carries around 35 million passengers a year for its clients. This is expected to slightly bring down the prices of iPhones in the country. Apple is expected to export the bulk of the domestically produced Pro models of the iPhone 16 series to the US, Europe and the Middle East after meeting the local demand. Apple saw robust sales of around $8 billion in the country in FY24, an increase of around 33% year-on-year. Apple shipped over 10 million iPhones in 2023 in India, up from 6 million in 2022. The company recorded a 6% market share in the Indian smartphone market in 2023. Experts have said that there is a definitive trend of Apple attracting many first-time users for its newly launched iPhones in India, alongside the strong sales of previous-generation devices. Boeing is handling the 737 Max 9 crisis 'much, much better' than previous scandals, the boss of the world's top airline trade group says

On Sunday, the Justice Department said <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-to-plead-guilty-isnt-out-woods-yet-government-contracts-2024-7">Boeing had agreed to plead guilty</a> to a charge of fraud conspiracy in relation to two Max 8 crashes in 2018 and 2019, which killed 346 people.The aircraft's reputation was further hampered by January's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alaska-airlines-blowout-passenger-lost-shoes-and-socks-to-gaping-hole-2024-3">Alaska Airlines blowout</a> when a Max 9's door plug came off in midair. Capped at 38 a month, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lufthansa-ceo-calls-boeing-delivery-delays-extremely-annoying-2024-5">customers have voiced frustrations</a> with the slow pace of deliveries.In recent weeks, Boeing has told customers with deliveries scheduled for 2025 and 2026 that they face additional delays, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-07-12/boeing-warns-customers-of-further-delays-on-737-max-amid-crisis">Bloomberg</a> reported. The report added that delays could be between three and six months.The low-cost carrier Norwegian Air also <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://media.uk.norwegian.com/pressreleases/the-norwegian-group-with-increased-capacity-and-passenger-growth-in-the-second-quarter-3334489">said</a> Friday that it expected reduced capacity growth this year, "due to aircraft delivery delays from Boeing."Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by Business Insider.The news comes just 10 days before the start of the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-not-bringing-commercial-jets-to-farnborough-airshow-2024-6">Farnborough Airshow</a>, the sector's biggest event of the year. <ul class="summary-list"><li>It seems Boeing can hardly go a year without <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-tell-you-are-flying-boeing-737-max-9">new issues on its Boeing 737 Max</a> family of airliners.</li><li>The jet family is infamous for crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people.</li></ul>Another year, another reason to worry about flying on a Boeing 737 Max airliner.On Friday, a piece of fuselage known as a door plug <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alaska-airlines-panel-door-blown-barred-water-pressurization-light-ntsb-2024-1">fell from the Boeing 737 Max 9 plane operating Alaska Airlines flight 1282</a> as it climbed out of Portland International Airport.As the name implies, the piece was meant to plug a hole in the airframe where a door could be. On planes set up to carry more passengers than Alaska opted for, FAA regulations call for those doors to be fitted and installed. Since Alaska's planes carry fewer passengers, and under FAA rules there's no reason for the extra emergency exit, the hole is plugged permanently.Using a single design for both high- and low-density versions of the Max 9 is common. It simplifies manufacturing and lowers costs. Door plugs are used across airline manufacturing but require that quality control is up to snuff to ensure nothing goes wrong."The plug on the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-tell-you-are-flying-boeing-737-max-9">Max 9 is the same as on the 737-900 series</a>, and there have been no problems with that aircraft," Henry Harteveldt, a travel analyst and the cofounder of Atmosphere Research Group, told Business Insider.Harteveldt noted that we don't know if Boeing or its suppliers changed the installation or quality-control process for the door plug of the Max 9.Spirit AeroSystems, Boeing's largest supplier and the company that builds the bones of most Max planes, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.spiritaero.com/pages/release/spirit-aerosystems-statement-on-ntsb-investigation/">announced on Wednesday</a> that it is now involved in the National Transportation Safety Board investigation into the incident.<div type="image" title="Boeing 787 Max 9 interior showing missing door plug in NTSB photo of Alaska Airlines emergency landing" height="3648" width="5472" msid="106751173" hostid="261" sizebytes="480252"></div>Two of the largest Max 9 operators — Alaska and United Airlines — have since said <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/united-airlines-discovers-loose-bolts-in-boeing-737-max-9-2024-1">they found loose bolts</a> on door plugs of other 737 Max 9's in their fleet. Though the NTSB investigation is ongoing, that could mean this is a case of poor quality control.Boeing said Thursday that it would cooperate "fully and transparently with the FAA and the NTSB on their investigations.""We're going to have to demonstrate it by our actions, by our willingness to work directly and transparently with them," CEO Dave Calhoun said in a statement, in reference to its customers. "And to make sure they understand that every airplane that Boeing has its name on that's in the sky is in fact safe."Still, it's Boeing's history of the design choices it made with the 737 Max and its current track record with quality control that has led to its reputation that has some travelers scared to step foot on it.<h2>Birthing a Max</h2>When Boeing first conceived the Max family in 2011, it wanted to make it as much like its predecessor, the 737NG, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/23/business/boeing-737-max-crash.html">as possible</a>. That meant instead of a brand-new plane — known as a "clean sheet" design — <a target="_blank" href="https://boeing.mediaroom.com/2011-08-30-Boeing-Launches-737-New-Engine-Family-with-Commitments-for-496-Airplanes-from-Five-Airlines">Boeing would modify the 737</a> so it could take on larger engines and be more fuel efficient like Airbus' new model that was taking market share at the time. The similarities also kept both maintenance and pilot training as easy and as cheap for its airline customers already operating older 737 planes as possible.These bigger engines tipped the delicate balance of the plane, so Boeing created a self-stabilizing system to compensate known as MCAS intended to make the plane fly like the older models. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/boeing-charged-737-max-fraud-conspiracy-and-agrees-pay-over-25-billion">But investigators say Boeing then hid MCAS's existence by omission</a> from the FAA, and subsequently all pilots who would fly the aircraft, as it was left out of training documentation and the manual.Infamously, the MCAS system has been blamed for the deaths of 346 people involved in two Max crashes in 2018 and 2019."We've made mistakes and we got some things wrong. We're improving and we're learning," former <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN1X810X/">Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg told members of Congress</a> during a hearing in 2019.<div type="image" title="737 Max aircrafts are pictured at the Boeing factory in Renton, Washington, U.S., March 27, 2019. According to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-09/boeing-ceo-calhoun-to-press-safety-message-at-all-hands-meeting?srnd=premium-asia">Bloomberg</a>, the CEO was on the verge of tears as he said Boeing needed to own up to its mistakes."We're going to approach this, No. 1 acknowledging our mistake," Calhoun said at a 737 Max factory in Washington, Bloomberg reported. "But passengers need to do more to impact their own safety at the end of the day."

Megan Thee Stallion and Warner Music Group sign 'innovative' new agreement that enables her to stay independent while working with the company's resources

On February 14, Air India announced a historic order for buying 470 aircraft, including 250 from Airbus and 220 from <keyword id="6357957" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="boeing" source="Orion">Boeing</keyword>. Besides, there is an option to buy another 370 planes from the two plane makers. It was also the first time in more than 17 years that Air India, which was taken over by <keyword id="6355725" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-group" source="Orion">Tata Group</keyword> from the government in January last year, placed orders for new planes. In his weekly message to the staff on Friday, Wilson said he wants to commend "the commercial, strategic procurement, finance, treasury and legal teams for successfully putting together a huge financing deal related to our new fleet in remarkably quick time...it was another historic achievement for the new Air India". Specific details could not be immediately ascertained. Wilson, in an interview with PTI last month, said that a lot of money is being invested in the airline. "<keyword id="10439307" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-group-air-india" source="Orion">Tata Group Air India</keyword> has invested at a list price of USD 70 billion for the 470 aircraft. That is with the explicit purpose of providing more services, especially international connectivity. We ultimately do that for many reasons and one reason is that we get economic returns from that investment. "I think, if the traffic is siphoned off throughout the places, just makes it more and more difficult for us to have non-stop services and ultimately, customer loses as they will not have any option of non-stop service," he had said. The response was to a query related to bilateral flying rights. The order for 470 planes comprises 40 Airbus A350s, 20 Boeing 787s and 10 Boeing 777-9s wide-body aircraft as well as 210 Airbus A320/321 Neos and 190 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft. In the message, Wilson -- CEO and Managing Director -- also mentioned the diversion of the AI 173 Mumbai-San Francisco flight this week and about the handling of the situation. He said it was a "team Air India effort". "From the affected crew and onboard staff helping stranded customers on the ground, to the engineering, flight ops, inflight services, insurance and other folk preparing and operating the relief flight. "From our customer service and communications teams assisting customers and engaging media, to our government and regulatory teams keeping their counterparts informed, and everyone else who played a role," he said. On June 6, AI 173 operating from Delhi to San Francisco carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew on board was diverted to the Magadan port city in far east Russia following a mid-air glitch in one of the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft engines. All were stranded in the port city for two days and the replacement aircraft ferried them to San Francisco on June 8. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Ruthy Heiler said her teacher raped her at a school run by the Independent Fundamental Baptist sect.</li><li>A new documentary describes sexual abuse and cover-ups within the various parishes.</li></ul>When her school held a spirit day where the kids could ditch their uniforms for their choice of clothes, Ruthy Heiler was taken aside by the principal's wife, she told Business Insider."Your sweater is too tight," the woman said to the then 15-year-old girl. "It's of the devil."She was forced to change into an outfit from the lost and found, she said, and the sweater was taken away to be burned. She said that the school in Gaylord, Michigan, was run by Grace Baptist Church, part of the controversial <a target="_blank" href="https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2018/december/independent-fundamentalist-baptist-church-abuse-scandal.html">Independent Fundamental Baptist movement</a>.The movement has come under scrutiny in recent years because the leaders of some member churches across the US have been convicted of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/mental-health/child-abuse">child sex abuse</a>. It has led to allegations of violence, manipulation, and cover-ups.Heiler, 33, said she was targeted after testifying against Aaron Willand, her former Bible teacher and volleyball coach, who was convicted of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/category/sexual-assault">raping</a> her when she was a teenager."As far as the church was concerned, I was the guilty party," she told BI.Heiler's story is featured in "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.investigationdiscovery.com/show/let-us-prey-a-ministry-of-scandals-investigation-discovery-atve-us">Let Us Prey: A Ministry of Scandals</a>," a new documentary series by Investigation Discovery, streaming on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.max.com/">Max</a>. It includes interviews with other former members of the Independent Fundamental Baptist movement who claim to have been sexually abused as children in assorted parishes.Many have been supported by Heiler's nonprofit, the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.facebook.com/blindeyemovement/">Blind Eye Movement</a>, which advocates for survivors of child sexual abuse within a religious setting.<h2>Heiler said she was called 'impure' after testifying against her abuser</h2>Heiler said that she was molested — and later raped — by Willand between the ages of 12 and 14. She said she looked up to him because he taught bible studies and had taken her single mom "under his wing.""He and his wife were always inviting us to things like barbecues," she told BI. As far as she knew at the time, she said, men and women were anatomically the same. She added that when she got her first period, she thought she was dying."I didn't tell anyone what was happening because, at that stage, I didn't even know it was wrong," she told BI of the abuse. "I didn't think it was something I should speak up about."Heiler said that she was branded "impure" after Willand was sentenced to five years for offenses including four counts of sex with a minor in 2006."I wasn't considered 'top tier' because of my abuse and no longer being a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/29-year-old-virgin-writing-a-sex-column-2022-3">virgin</a>," she told BI.Heiler told BI that she suffered many prejudices, including being told it was "inappropriate" to lick a lollipop and having to stand up in church and apologize for talking to a boy without a chaperone.She also said that her future first husband — also a member of the Independent Fundamental Baptist movement — was warned off."The pastor told him that if he wanted anything to do with God, he wouldn't marry me," she added.<h2>Heiler was devastated when she heard that her abuser had been released from jail more than 2 years early</h2>As a teenager, Heiler had a reprieve from the abuse when Willand and his family were transferred by the church from Michigan to Washington.But two years later, her mom, Cheryl Gamble, decided, at Willand's request, that she could stay at his family home and help with childcare over the summer. Speaking in "Let Us Prey," Gamble — who said she was unaware of the abuse at the time — said, "I invited the wolf with my little lambs."Heiler told BI that she tried to cope by disassociating herself from the horrors of being raped."I remember looking at a painting on the wall," she said. "I'd just imagine myself in the picture and not being there."She later found the courage to tell her mom about the abuse a few weeks after she returned home. Gamble reported Willand to Jon Jenkins, the pastor of Grace Baptist Church. "He did nothing," Heiler, who added that he was legally obliged to report allegations of abuse, said. [Editor's note: Business Insider reached out to Jenkins several times but didn't hear back.]In a statement to the producers of "Let Us Prey," Jenkins said he spoke with the police at the time. However, law-enforcement authorities in Michigan told filmmakers that there was no record of a conversation.Heiler, with encouragement from her mom, was determined to give a statement to the police, however painful it was.Willand was locked up in 2006 after pleading guilty to the charges filed against him in Washington. He was sentenced to five years in prison. He was not charged with the earlier abuse in Michigan. He served two years and 10 months of his sentence before being released on the grounds of good behavior.Still, Heiler was devastated when she learned that Willand had been freed from the penal institution early."I felt like the justice system failed me — and other potential victims," she said to BI.<div type="image" title="Members of &quot;The Blind Eye Movement&quot; holding placards to protest not being heard as victims of child sex abuse." height="1080" width="1440" msid="105912217" hostid="261"></div>Then in 2018, Sarah Smith, an investigative reporter for Texas' <a target="_blank" href="https://www.star-telegram.com/">Fort Worth Star-Telegram</a>, published articles about sex-abuse allegations within the Independent Fundamental Baptist movement. She uncovered 412 allegations of abuse across almost 200 of its churches and institutions in the US. The journalist interviewed a string of accusers, including Heiler.Larissa Newman, another of Willand's victims in Michigan, came forward after reading the media coverage.The outrage motivated Heiler to press charges against Willand — who still worked with kids after he got out of prison — for his crimes against both her and Newman in Michigan in the early 2000s. He admitted their abuse and was <a target="_blank" href="https://upnorthlive.com/news/local/former-gaylord-teacher-sentenced-for-sexually-assaulting-students">sentenced in 2022</a> to between 10 and 40 years in prison, depending on his eligibility for parole.<h2>The nonprofit Blind Eye Movement is helping other accusers from the church</h2>"I'm relieved that other women and girls are safe from him now," Heiler, who has two children, ages 5 and 8, told BI.Heiler added that she wouldn't allow Willand's actions to "destroy" her. She founded the Blind Eye Movement. It offers peer support and advocates for full investigation by legal authorities whenever allegations are made within a religious environment.Heiler said the group is a lifeline."The other survivors know 100% what you've been through," she said, adding: "When you haven't been believed for so long, and these pastors spread lies about you, it's a different level of healing to find a community of women like you."She added that, like her fellow survivors, she was "not scared of the IFB anymore" or being blamed for the "despicable" behavior of the perpetrators."A lot of time passed when I was silent," she said.
