<keyword id="48503" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="alstom" source="Orion">Alstom</keyword>, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has been awarded the contract to design, manufacture, supply, test, and commission 312 standard gauge metro cars for <keyword id="6366797" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="delhi-metro" source="Orion">Delhi Metro</keyword> Phase IV expansion by the <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword> Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The order worth EUR312 million (Rs 2,643 crore approx.) includes the design and manufacturing of 234 standard gauge metro cars for Line 7 extension, which is 12.558 km of Pink line on the Mukundpur- Maujpur corridor and, the Line 8 extension, which is 28.92 km of Magenta line for the Janakpuri West - RK Ashram corridor, according to a statement from Alstom. Alstom will also design and manufacture of 78 standard gauge metro cars for the 23.622 km Silver line between Aerocity and Tughlakabad, including 15-year maintenance of these 78 cars. The statement said that Alstom would supply its Metropolis trainsets for this order. Metropolis trains offer a unique design, a wide range of configurations and ensure the highest performance due to the perfect combination of proven and reliable components and innovations, the company said. With its extensive track record, low lifecycle costs, and keen focus on passenger experience, Alstom said its Metropolis metros set the standard around the world. Talking about the new contract, Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India Cluster, said that "Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) is amongst the largest urban clusters in the world. Faced with the realities of climate change, such megacities need reliable and sustainable public transport solutions. Alstom is pleased to continue the partnership with Delhi Metro, one of Asia's largest rapid transit systems. Our trains have a high recyclability of all materials and low-weight design to reduce energy consumption that will greatly contribute to minimising environmental impact in the region." Alstom said it had delivered more than 800 metro cars that are in service for the Delhi Metro network. The new trains will be built at Alstom's largest urban rolling stock manufacturing site in Sricity (<keyword id="37102" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="andhra-pradesh" source="Orion">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>), which has a strong portfolio of delivering for major domestic and international projects, according to the company. Currently, the Delhi Metro network consists of about 391 km with 286 stations. The network has now crossed the boundaries of Delhi to reach Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad in <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>, Gurugram, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh and Ballabhgarh in Haryana. In addition to providing rolling stock, Alstom said it had in the past partnered with DMRC for several other projects, including the successful implementation of supply and commissioning of train control and signalling system for DMRC's Red line (L1), Yellow line (L2), Green line (L5), Violet line (L6), Pink line (L7) during Phase I, II and III.  12:00 PM As protests rage on in Delhi over opposing factions over Citizenship Amendment Act, a high level urgent meeting was convened in the national capital to discuss the events. Union Home Minister Amit Shah met representatives of different political parties including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to appraise them on the status of violence caused by the protests. As many as seven people died in the violence in which also includes a police head constable. The number of injured also rose to 150 as of 12:45 today. The protests which took a new turn late Saturday (Feb 22) in the Maujpur area and raged on as pro and anti CAA clashed with each other. It was reported that some used guns, other pelted stones and some even tried to set a petrol pump on fire. All of North-eastern Delhi remained tense as Section 144 was imposed in the areas of Maujpur, Kardampuri, <keyword id="3354144" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chand-Bagh">Chand Bagh</keyword> and Dayalpur.areas on Monday. However, the riots and protests went on through Monday night showing little indications of cooling off. On the contrary, the number of deaths, injured and civic complaints to the fire department is swelling by the hour. If all goes well, the 103 km, six-corridor phase 4 of Delhi metro would be ready in another 6 years. This will be a big step bringing pollution and traffic chaos to unbelievably low. This project will be built at a cost of Rs 50,000 crore, deputy CM Manish Sisodia announced. 
 
Phase-IV will be monitored closely, said Sisodia. "The project is scheduled to take six years to be completed. We have asked that DMRC give a monthly progress report to the Delhi government once the work on Phase-IV starts," he added. 
 
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said the decision would "go a long way" in reducing congestion and pollution in the city . "A big decision by Cabinet today," he tweeted. 
 
The project details will be sent to the urban development ministry for approval, after which the tendering process will start. Sources said that work on Phase-IV should start this year itself. 
 
The six corridors approved for the next phase are Rithala-Bawana-Narela (21.73km), Inderlok-Indraprastha (12.58km), Aerocity-Tughlakabad (20.20km), Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block (7.96km), Janakpuri (west)RK Ashram (28.92km) and Mukundpur-Maujpur (12.54km). 
 
The new phase will add around 8.5 lakh riders to the Delhi Metro network.While the longest corridor in this phase will be the Janakpuri (West)-RK Ashram corridor, the shortest one will be Lajpat Nagar-Saket G block. 
 
The lines will be mostly elevated ones--66.92km elevated and 37.01underground. 
 
Terming it a "future-oriented" project, which will take the Metro to places that are likely to see a spurt in traffic, Sisodia said. 
 
"The Phase-IV route is focused on areas where traffic volume is expected to go up in the future. Once the construction begins after the central government's nod, DMRC will submit a monthly progress report to the Delhi cabinet," he added. 
 
With the completion of 103km-long Phase IV , the total length of the Metro network will cross the 450-km mark. Its detailed project report (DPR) was cleared in June 2016.
