Per Elite Daily, it was first available in some parts of Europe and Asia as early as September 2020, but its American debut has brought about a new bout of virality and challenges.</p><p>The effect's function is simple: you upload a photo, and the effect morphs your face into it. Things become a bit more complicated when you upload a photo of a group of people. Then, the effect morphs your face into one of the people or characters on-screen, but until it actually happens, you won't know which.</p><p>It's unclear exactly how the effect works, but the jokes and trends surrounding it are predicated on the idea that it morphs based on facial similarities. I tested it myself using a photo of characters from the video game "Fire Emblem: Three Houses" and landed on the same exact character (Petra, for what it's worth) every single time, no matter how many times I closed out of my video draft and opened a new one. Jennings reported similar findings as well through personal testing. </p><p>Though it's all in good fun, challenges like this one play off the desire to categorize ourselves online in arbitrary ways. The shapeshifting effect is just a novel manifestation of the same phenomena that drive people to participate in quizzes about their personality or which "Sex and the City" character they are. <p>In short, the answer is "anytime." But wearing a bow tie is a much more nuanced art than tying on a standard necktie, and must be handled more carefully.  </p>
<p><strong>First, let's get to know the different types of bow ties: Self-tied, pre-tied, and clip-on. Ignore types two and three immediately</strong>.</p>
<p>If you're the type of person who wants to wear a bow tie, you should be the type of person that wants to learn how to tie one. There are <a href="http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tie+a+bow tie&amp;oq=tie+a+bowtie&amp;gs_l=youtube.3..0l3j0i5l7.587.3515.0.3665.12.12.0.0.0.0.145.1240.4j8.12.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.dm6ADP81VIo">literally 100,000 videos</a> to choose from (m<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">y personal favorite is </span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJv4Qh7zR3E">this one</a>).</p>
<p>The key to wearing a bow tie is to do it sparingly, unless you're trying to make it your "thing," like <a href="http://www.npr.org/2010/04/09/125775726/timeline-john-paul-stevens-the-justice-in-the-bow-tie">a certain Supreme Court Justice</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Make it about a special event, and keep the rest of your outfit muted </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">-</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> think a solid color suit and shirt.</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/52f4fa33eab8ea071d1afa3d-1200-800/hair-1.png" border="0" alt="adam levine bow tie hair"><p class="source"><span>Paul A. It's possible to wear a pinstripe suit with a bow tie, but make sure the stripe is subtle. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">And make sure the suit and shirt match, since they'll be more visible than they would be with a regular necktie, which bisects the male torso. </span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Most important is the bow tie itself. Since the rest of your outfit will be conservative, this is the time to make a statement.</span></span></p>

A bow tie is such a small piece of clothing that it's acceptable for it to get loud. You wanted to stand out by wearing one, so embrace it.</span></p>
<p>Once you've tied your bow tie and you're happy that it's not going to come undone, leave it alone. It's part of the fun that the knot won't be perfect; that's how people will know you did it yourself.</p>
