I don't know if you know who he is," Lintz joked with Insider Thursday about losing out on the role.</p><p>In 2015, <a href="https://collider.com/spider-man-marvel-and-sony-at-odds-over-casting/">according to the Meet the Movie Press podcast</a>, Lintz was reportedly among the top three actors in the running for the role of the web-slinger, Peter Parker/Spider-Man, along with Holland and Charlie Plummer. The role eventually went to Holland, 26, who first appeared as Spidey in 2016's "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reviews/out?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.disneyplus.com%2Fmovies%2Fmarvel-studios-captain-america-civil-war%2F4ovfyKnnIBCg" rel="nofollow sponsored">Captain America: Civil War</a>."</p><div type="image" title="Tom Holland Spider-Man" height="600" width="1200" msid="91993849" hostid="261"></div><p>There aren't any hard feelings on Lintz's end, who eventually got to meet Holland while filming Disney+'s latest Marvel series, "Ms. Marvel."</p><p>"It was cool because he ended up coming to one of our sets one day and I just got to speak to him, and I look up to him in so many ways," Lintz, 21, said of meeting Holland, <a href="https://www.joe.ie/movies-tv/ms-marvel-winter-soldier-749126">who was apparently filming "Spider-Man: No Way Home" next door in Atlanta</a>. "He's such an amazing person and an actor and it seems like life has come full circle." </p><p>During the show's virtual press conference on Friday, which Insider attended, Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige told press that they were filming the scene with the three Spider-Men (Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield) right next door, noting that a lot of the Spidey crew kept sneaking over to the "Ms. Marvel" set.</p><p>On "Ms. Marvel," Lintz may not have any superpowers, but he does play super genius Bruno Carrelli, the tech-savvy best friend of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) who becomes endowed with powers to become the titular Ms. Marvel.</p><div type="image" title="Ms. Marvel Kamala and Bruno" height="1608" width="3840" msid="91993851" hostid="261"></div><p>After his time on "The Walking Dead" ended in 2019, Lintz told Insider he <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-walking-dead-matt-lintz-interview-2019-3">was taking some time to himself to focus on school</a>. But when the opportunity for a Marvel audition came around again, about two years ago, he couldn't say no, the actor said. It was his first audition since his time on the AMC apocalyptic drama came to a close.</p><p>"It was my freshman year of college. I was about two months in and I got an audition. It was untitled, but for Marvel. I auditioned a couple times," Lintz said Thursday, not thinking anything may come of it. "I was like, 'OK, well, I probably won't get it."</p><p>But then Lintz was called back to screen test with the show's lead, Vellani, and costar Rish Shah, who plays Kamran. When both went well, Lintz had to make a tough choice between school and starring in a Marvel series.</p><div type="image" title="Matt Lintz at Ms. Marvel premiere" height="1996" width="2656" msid="91993853" hostid="261"></div><p>"I went straight into filming and I had to drop out of school to do this," Lintz noted. "School's always there. If I want to go back, I can go back. But right now, I'm doing this and I'm really happy."</p><p>While the actor is proud of the show as a whole, Lintz said that he's most excited for fans to see the show's third episode.</p><p>"Episode three has a big event in it that I think people are gonna like," he teased. "I don't wanna say too much, but there's a cool event and it's a lot of fun."</p><p><em>"Ms. Marvel" is set to begin streaming on Disney+ on June 8.</em></p>

'The Walking Dead' star Matt Lintz was in the running to play Spider-Man years ago before he was cast on 'Ms. Marvel'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Warning: There are spoilers ahead for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."</li><li>Tenoch Huerta confirmed to <a href="https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/namor-is-a-dream-antagonist-for-black-panther-wakanda-forever-says-ryan-coogler-exclusive-image/">Empire</a> that his character Namor is a mutant.</li></ul><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/black-panther-wakanda-forever-details-you-missed-2022-11">"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever"</a> antagonist Namor may be the first mutant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's main timeline.</p><p>In the new movie, which premiered last week, Namor (Tenoch Huerta) is the main antagonist of the sequel and threatens to destroy Wakanda. Later in the film, when Namor explains his backstory to <a href="https://www.insider.com/black-panther-wakanda-forever-details-to-know-2022-10">Shuri (Letitia Wright),</a> he uses the word "mutant" for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to describe himself.</p><p>In the comics, Namor was also the first mutant introduced in 1939, although he wasn't called a mutant until after the X-Men's introduction in 1963.</p><p>It appears that the MCU is finally ready to start introducing mutants officially, and Namor is one of the first to make that leap.</p><h2>Namor is still technically a mutant despite being born with abilities</h2><div type="image" title="Tenoch Huerta as Namor in Black Panther Wakanda Forever" height="960" width="1280" msid="95511519" hostid="261" sizebytes="103590"></div><p>Fans may be wondering how Namor was born with his powers if he is a mutant.</p><p>In the comics, and in multiple adaptations, mutants are born with a special gene, called the X-gene, but this only activates during puberty, causing a mutation. However, in Namor's case in the movie, he is born with his abilities, including the feathered wings around his feet.</p><p>While this may imply that the MCU is getting rid of the puberty transformation, there is a comic-established reason for this difference. Like all mutations, there are some exceptions to the puberty rule and mutants such as Multiple Man, Hope Summers, Nightcrawler, and Beast were born with mutations.</p><p>Multiple Man was born with his abilities because he's part of a special off-shoot of mutants called "Changelings" or "Homo Killcrop." Meanwhile, other mutants can be born with mutations after being exposed to radiation in utero.</p><p>Since Namor's mother was exposed to a vibranium-infused plant, potential radiation from the plant could have activated the villain's mutant genes earlier.</p><h2>In the main timeline, Earth-616, Namor is the oldest mutant so far</h2><div type="image" title="Patrick Stewart as Professor X." height="1166" width="1556" msid="95511521" hostid="261" sizebytes="30714"></div><p>Technically, Namor isn't the first mutant we have seen in the MCU, although he may be the oldest.</p><p>Namor explains in "Wakanda Forever" that he was born in 1571, making him roughly 453 years old if the film takes place in 2024.</p><p>In the alternate universe in <a href="https://www.insider.com/doctor-strange-in-the-multiverse-of-madness-cameos-2022-5">"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,"</a> Patrick Stewart's Professor Xavier from Fox's "X-Men" franchise makes a brief appearance. On the one hand, this could mean that every part of the "X-Men" franchise is canon. If that's the case, the "X-Men" villain Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) would be thousands of years older than Namor and would be classified as the firstborn mutant.</p><p>However, it is still not clear if the "X-Men" universe is canon since no other characters have made the jump to the MCU. If the X-Men are out there somewhere, they are possibly part of other dimensions in the multiverse, like Earth-838 (as seen in "Doctor Strange"), and not part of the Earth-616 canon.</p><p>The only other confirmed mutant is Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani). At the end of the "Ms. Marvel" finale, her friend Bruno (Matt Lintz) told her she has a mutation and the "X-Men '97" theme song starts to play.</p><p>It is never explicitly confirmed that Ms. Marvel is a mutant but "Ms. Marvel" co-creator Sana Amanat seemed to confirm so in <a href="https://www.empireonline.com/tv/news/ms-marvel-finale-reveal-sana-amanat-interview-exclusive/">an interview with Empire</a> shortly after the episode aired in July.</p><p>Amanat told the publication that she originally intended for Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel to be a mutant rather than an Inhuman, as she is in the comics.</p><p>With three mutant appearances in one year, it's only a matter of time before the mutant race is fully established in the MCU.</p><p><em>"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is in theaters now.</em></p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Warning: There are major spoilers ahead for the "<keyword id="12522254" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ms-marvel" source="Orion">Ms. Marvel</keyword>" finale.</li><li>There's one extra scene that follows the credits, featuring Captain <keyword id="11899344" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="marvel" source="Orion">Marvel</keyword> (Brie Larson).</li></ul><p>Marvel Studios' latest Disney+ series "<a href="https://www.insider.com/ms-marvel-directors-interview-adil-el-arbi-bilall-fallah-2022-6">Ms. Marvel</a>" wrapped up its six-episode first season with a major cameo and tease for what's to come. </p><p>The season one finale, which was released on the streamer on Wednesday, featured a big reveal about teen superhero Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel's (<a href="https://www.insider.com/ms-marvel-iman-vellani-tom-holland-spoiled-spider-man-no-way-home-2022-6">Iman Vellani</a>) origin and one end-credits scene featuring a familiar face from the <keyword id="11931627" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="marvel-cinematic-universe" source="Orion">Marvel Cinematic Universe</keyword>. </p><p>In case you missed the post-credits scene or aren't sure what to make of it, we have you covered.  </p><h2>Before the end-credits scene, Kamala's friend Bruno Carrelli drops a huge revelation: She has a mutation in her genes</h2><div type="image" title="Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the &quot;Ms. Marvel&quot; season finale." height="1000" width="1334" msid="92861967" hostid="261" sizebytes="58554"></div><p>After Kamala's mom gifts her with a superhero suit and she saves the day, her dad explains the origin of her name and why her parents chose it. In Arabic, "kamal" means "perfect." In Urdu, the word can be translated to "marvel," meaning that Kamala has unknowingly had this connection to her idol, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, since birth. </p><p>Then Kamala's dad tells her that she's always been "our own little Ms. Marvel," therefore giving the teen her superhero title. </p><p>It seems like Kamala's origin story is neatly tied up in the finale, but then Bruno (<a href="https://www.insider.com/matt-lintz-auditioned-spider-man-ms-marvel-2022-6">Matt Lintz</a>) shares some game-changing information with her.</p><p>Bruno tells Kamala that he looked at her genetic makeup again because her brother, Aamir (Saagar Shaikh), wanted to know if he too might have powers. </p><p>"I think we might've had it wrong the first time around," Bruno says. "We know why you have access to the Noor and how you can wield it, but when I compared you to the rest of your family, something still seemed off. Kamala, there's something different in your genes. Like a mutation."</p><p>At the exact moment when Bruno suggests that Kamala may be a mutant, the theme song from " X-Men: The Animated Series" plays.</p><p>But Kamala nonchalantly plays off Bruno's finding, saying: "Whatever it is, it's just gonna be another label."</p><div type="image" title="Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the &quot;Ms. Marvel&quot; season finale." height="1104" width="1473" msid="92861968" hostid="261" sizebytes="48516"></div><p>The use of the "X-Men '97" theme song was also confirmed by the finale's credits. But this also isn't the first time we've heard the tune in the MCU.</p><p>"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" also <a href="https://www.insider.com/doctor-strange-in-the-multiverse-of-madness-details-you-missed-2022-5">included the song</a> when Patrick Stewart showed up as X-Men character Charles Xavier/Professor X, a member of the Illuminati on a different Earth. </p><p>This "Ms. Marvel" moment is significant because it's the MCU's first overt acknowledgment of mutants.</p><p>With this revelation about Kamala's genetics, it seems like the MCU might finally be ready to bring mutants into the mix (as a refresher, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-disney-fox-merger-affects-consumers-hulu-marvel-streaming-2019-3">Disney acquired the rights</a> to Marvel's X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disney-acquires-fox-71-billion-dollar-deal-2019-3">following the 2019 merger</a>). </p><p>"The fact that it's Kamala — it's <em>her</em>. It's like her wildest dream already came true over the show [gaining powers], but then we just gave her one more bit of the dream. It's incredible. I'm overjoyed," said "Ms. Marvel" head writer Bisha K. Ali in a new interview with <a href="https://www.marvel.com/articles/tv-shows/ms-marvel-kamala-khan-genetics-interview">Marvel.com</a>. </p><h2>Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the end-credits scene</h2><div type="image" title="Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the end-credits scene of the &quot;Ms. Marvel&quot; season finale." height="1188" width="1584" msid="92861969" hostid="261" sizebytes="67744"></div><p>The scene opens with Kamala, in her superhero costume, throwing herself on her bed. She gets up when her bangle begins glowing. Then, she's transported through her bedroom-closet door, breaking it in the process.</p><p>But it's Captain Marvel, not Kamala, who emerges from the broken door, looking at her glove-covered glowing hands and wondering what's going on. </p><p>Captain Marvel picks up a ruined poster of herself from the floor, sees the various artwork on the bedroom walls dedicated to her, and says: "Oh, no, no, no."</p><p>Panicking, she runs away and a title card appears saying "Ms. Marvel will return in '<keyword id="12189588" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="the-marvels" source="Orion">The Marvels</keyword>.'" </p><div type="image" title="Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the end-credits scene of the &quot;Ms. Marvel&quot; season finale." height="1191" width="1589" msid="92861970" hostid="261" sizebytes="52772"></div><p>Larson's appearance isn't entirely surprising, considering that it's already been confirmed that Vellani's character will be part of the <a href="https://www.insider.com/captain-marvel-2-details-information-what-we-know-brie-larson">"Captain Marvel" sequel titled "The Marvels,"</a> in theaters on July 28, 2023.</p><p>The end-credits scene does however connect the series to the upcoming film, which will probably explain the connection between the two characters. </p><p>Specific moments from the Disney+ series "WandaVision" and the 2021 Marvel film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" are also starting to make a little more sense now.</p><div type="image" title="Brie Larson in the mid-credits scene of &quot;Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.&quot;" height="1305" width="1740" msid="92861971" hostid="261" sizebytes="52516"></div><p>"The Marvels" will include Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), the daughter of Captain Marvel's friend Maria (Lashana Lynch), who made her debut in "WandaVision" and alluded to some rocky history with Captain Marvel.</p><p>The mid-credits scene of "WandaVision" also showed Monica meeting with a Skrull claiming to be sent by "an old friend of your mother's," presumably Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). </p><p>Meanwhile, the first end-credits scene of "Shang-Chi" showed Captain Marvel inspecting the titular hero's rings with Wong (Benedict Wong) and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).</p><p>Bruce said that the rings appeared to be over 1,000 years old, beyond the time that Shang-Chi's father Wenwu acquired them. In response, Captain Marvel said that the rings didn't look like any alien technology she's ever seen. Then, she got an emergency call and disappeared. </p><p>These aforementioned loose threads, along with the "Ms. Marvel" end-credits scene, will probably be addressed in the "Captain Marvel" sequel. </p><p>Beyond "The Marvels," it's unclear if there will be a second season of "Ms. Marvel." But Vellani told <a href="https://stylecaster.com/ms-marvel/">Stylecaster</a> that she'd be interested in returning to her show after fighting alongside her idol, similar to how Tom Holland's Spider-Man was introduced in "Captain America: Civil War" and continued to appear in standalone Spidey movies. </p>
