New Delhi, Mar 27 () The Indian Banks' Association (IBA) on Friday appealed customers to strictly observe social distancing and avoid visiting branches unless very necessary. Announcing a set of measures to be followed by customers, IBA said avoid touching counters, common places by maintaining proper distance from staff before and after physical transactions. Avoid crowding and maintain 1 to 1.5 metre distance between each other in the queue and only 5-6 customers to enter the branch at a time, it said. IBA also requested anyone with cough and cold symptoms to avoid physical transactions, and asked senior citizens and children to desist from going to branches. It asked customers to use gloves or sanitizers or masks while entering the branches, and to carry all documents required for transaction. "Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds before and after physical banking/currency counting/AEPS (Aadhaar-enabled payment system) transactions," IBA said in the public appeal. Cash deposits and withdrawals, clearing of cheques, remittances and government transactions are the services which are available physically at branches, it said. IBA also clarified that as per the notification by Ministry of Home Affairs, IT vendors for banking operations, banking correspondent (BC) and ATM operation and cash management agencies are part of exempt services. As advised by the Finance Minister, the customer accounts will be credited through direct benefit transfer, wherever applicable, IBA said, and asked customers to make use of BC network and ATMs for cash withdrawals. The financial capital, home to the maximum Covid-19 cases in the country, on Sunday witnessed the launch of its first drive-through testing sites. SRL Diagnostics, which has launched three such facilities in the city, said a test sample will be collected within 10 minutes without a person needing to step out of his car and results conveyed the same or next day over e-mail. Tests done at the facilities will be free of cost for everybody as per a recent Supreme Court judgement, a company representative said. The facilities at Indiabulls Finance Centre in Lower Parel, Celestia Spaces in Sewri and Lodha Supremeus in Kanjurmarg will be operational between 9 am to 6 pm everyday and the patient can receive the report the same day if the test is conducted before noon, the company said. The drive-throughs or mobile testing centres were used massively by South Korea to successfully arrest the rate of infections. They have also been started in the national capital region and Kerala by different bodies. The announcement comes at a time when India is still working to increase the testing for the infection. In a statement, the company's regional chief operating officer Ravi Aggarwal said Covid-19 cases are rising exponentially in Mumbai and such facilities will be of help as it fast-tracks testing. Its director for lab operations Dr Prabal Deb said there is a huge shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks, gloves and hazmat suits and we need to find innovative ways to conduct tests efficiently. A person can make an appointment by calling the company, and present a doctor's prescription seeking a Covid-19 test and a copy of Aadhaar Card, the statement added.

The staff in the branches have been asked to take precautions including wearing masks, gloves, using sanitisers and ensuring social distancing. Earlier, <keyword id="57968" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Banks-Association">Indian Banks' Association</keyword> (IBA) has made an appeal to people to wash their hands after touching or counting currency. IBA had also asked customers to use online and mobile banking channels for making their transactions and avoid visiting bank branches. "Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds before and after physical banking/currency counting/AEPS (Aadhaar-enabled payments)," IBA had said in a public appeal. Traders body, the Confederation of All India Traders had also flagged these concerns to Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> about the possible spread of coronavirus through currency notes. It cited the safety of polymer currency, mentioning 13 countries who have switched entirely to these notes, ditching paper variants, and more than 15 countries in line to do so.
