Aside from all of those amazing things, this foundation is also supposed to last 24 hours, which means that I'm not only gonna be wearing a mask, working out, and showering while wearing this foundation, I'm also going to be sleeping in it. Because I feel like every time I see a foundation that says "24-hour wear" on it, it's fully a lie, and they think that nobody's gonna test it, but I am.I'm ready to apply. I just primed my face with the Milk Hydro Grip Primer, just because I never wear foundation without my primer. I got the shade Soft Honey. Let's hope this color match isn't totally terrible, just because my skin never sees the sun anymore. I'm also just gonna use my blending sponge to apply it. I think just because it says it is so full coverage, I'm gonna start off with one pump on the back of my hand and see how that looks, and then we can add more if necessary.This is what that first layer looks like, and it is pretty full coverage, but I think I'm just gonna add one more layer to cover up a few certain spots, like these dark spots right here and certain other areas. It is supposed to be like primer, foundation, and concealer in one, but it's not doing much for the under-eyes. Maybe with a second layer it'll look a little better, but if it doesn't, I'm just gonna add my normal concealer.Those two layers look really, really nice. I feel like everything that needs to be covered is covered. I'm gonna add a teensy little bit of concealer, just because this area right here still looks pretty dark to me. I just want to brighten it up a little bit.Now I'm gonna apply the rest of my <keyword id="29496" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Makeup">makeup</keyword> and see how all of my products layer on top of this foundation. All of my <keyword id="1338019" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="makeup-products">makeup products</keyword> actually layered really nicely over the foundation. I feel like it all looks blended, and not gross or cakey. It's not patchy anywhere, so I think I'm pretty pleased with this foundation right now.First, let's test this foundation out while wearing a mask, since I have to wear one at the gym anyway. I'm dying to see if anything transfers. I don't see anything. There's, like -- OK, that's not true. I see something. It is, like, the slightest, slightest brown tinge. I think you can kind of see, like, right here.So far, so good. Let's head to the gym and see if this foundation is actually sweat-proof. I feel like this test is gonna be twice as hard, because not only am I gonna be working out, I'm gonna be working out in my mask.I just got back from the gym. I'm literally so out of breath right now. I have to take this mask off, so let's see if we have any transfer. I'm nervous. I was sweating up a storm. I mean, there's definitely some transfer, but it's not terrible, nor as bad as I thought it would be, considering that I was sweating, breathing a lot in this mask. You can definitely see, like, those little tinges of brown a little bit more obviously than before. No sweat marks. I was expecting there to be some drippy, like, foundation gross marks, but there isn't. It does feel a little sticky, though. My skin is definitely more moist feeling, not as matte as it felt before. I'm gonna take a shower now. I feel disgusting. It's gonna kill me to get into the shower and not wash all of this off my face, but we're gonna power through.So, I just got out of the shower. My hair is so frizzy, 'cause of all the steam. My skin right now looks a lot oilier than before I got into the shower. We're also going on nine hours of wear right now, I think. So at this time of day, my skin will be getting more and more oily. That's just how it works when I'm wearing makeup. I don't think it looks that bad. I do notice, like, right here, there are some little spots where it looks like the foundation might've rubbed away or just come off from me sweating. My upper lip gets sweaty when I'm working out, when I'm in a hot shower. It happens.I took an old T-shirt and put it on top of my pillow, just in case. I didn't want to get any foundation on my pillow. So I guess I'll talk to you guys tomorrow, and we'll see if this stuff actually does hold up for 24 hours.I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally get to wash this foundation off of my face. I can literally hear my pores screaming for help right now, but 24 hours are up, and this is what we're working with. Do I think this foundation lasts 24 hours? No. I don't think any foundation can, just because we're human beings and we move in our sleep, we get sweaty in our sleep, we drool in our sleep. I don't see any foundation surviving something like that. I do think it is transfer-proof to an extent, because when I was just sitting here wearing my mask, very little transfer happened, but the second I started sweating and I got into that steamy shower, things started to change. It got a little bit oily, and then it started to become easier to rub it away. Overall, I just don't think it's the perfect, foolproof foundation that I wanted it to be.

It's basically a lip gloss-lip color combo that promises 16-hour, no-transfer wear. This whole no-budge, no-bleed, no-fade thing sounds a little too good to be true, especially for 16 hours, so we're gonna be putting it to the test. Actually, multiple tests, because I'm going to be eating, drinking, kissing my hand, and showering on top of wearing this lip color for the next 16 hours. These could be great for all of the mask wearing we're doing, so let me put this on, and we can start the timer. So, this is a two-step application process.First you put on the lip color, and you have to wait 90 seconds for it to dry. Then you can go in and apply the lip gloss, which is actually really, really smooth and really nice feeling on the lips. The lip color does feel kind of sticky before the dry-down starts to happen. It's like you can't rub your lips together, because I'm pretty sure it'll, like, lift the color and move stuff around. I think the actual pigmentation is really, really good. Like, this is intense. It's so bright and vibrant. The gloss, this is good. This is good stuff. I would buy this if it was separate from the lip color. This is that good. It has zero smell, which is also something that I always appreciate.Now I'm just gonna kiss the back of my hand to see if there's any transfer. This is how I make out. I don't see anything. The gloss at this point has fully rubbed off. The gloss is not what's transfer-proof, it's the actual lip color, but the lip color doesn't seem to be moving. I'm rubbing. And another thing is that it doesn't feel drying, which I feel like is always associated with these long-wearing lip products. It doesn't feel drying at all, especially because you can put the gloss on top without worrying about it messing up the color.And just to see if these are actually mask-proof, we're gonna try it out with my mask. The inside of it is white. There is some makeup on it. Ignore that, but let's see if any transfer comes off on the mask. I should probably talk. La, la, la, la, la! [laughs] Um, I don't know what to say. But at this point there's probably something on the mask. I see another one of those little red dots that I think is just flaking off from the inside of my mouth. I'm not seeing anything come off on the can. So, here's what my lips look like after eating for a while. I feel like there's no difference, except that now my lips have cheese on them. I guess what I was expecting was that the oil from the food was gonna start to break it down into, like, a slipperier texture, and it's not doing that. It still feels totally dry. It is 3:10 p.m. right now. I put this on at around 11 a.m. this morning. All of my lip gloss has pretty much disappeared. My lips are starting to feel slightly drier than when I first applied, but it's nothing too terrible. I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable.These Nyx lip colors aren't technically marketed as waterproof, but I ran some swatches under water and they did not budge, which is making me think that they definitely are, so let's see how it holds up when I'm in the shower. Here's how my lips are looking after that shower. I feel like they look a lot drier than they feel. It's interesting, it doesn't feel very dry at all. It hasn't changed in dryness from the last time I commented on it, but it looks kind of, like, crackly. Still nothing. Nothing is transferring, nothing transferred with the water, so I think that this is holding up pretty good, actually.I was supposed to wake up at 5 a.m. to do my 16-hour check-in, and it's now 7 a.m., so I have had this lipstick on my lips for the past 18 hours. I'm ready to take it off, but thoroughly impressed with how much lipstick is on my mouth at this point in time. You can see that it really came apart in the inside and did kind of flake off in some areas, like right here it looks like some came off. I know that I wore this two hours longer than I said I was going to, but I think that makes it all the more impressive, OK? 'Cause it's still there. This is not maybe 100% perfect, but this has probably been one of the most long-lasting lip products I think I've ever tried. Maybe I'm just, like, still half asleep and can't really see very well. Ignore my face. This looks.... I'm gonna go take a shower now and put on some clothes, maybe run a brush through my hair, and then I will tell you what I think about the Shine Loud lip colors. And because I found myself touching up the gloss throughout the day, I worry that I'll run out of one product before the other.The lipstick was also so transfer-proof that I had trouble removing it at the end of the day. A standard makeup wipe barely worked. Instead, it took an oil-infused makeup-removing balm to erase all the color.While that wouldn't be an issue for me day-to-day - I don't typically use makeup wipes - I do worry that if I wanted to remove the lip product mid-day, I'd have to wait until I had access to a heavy-duty makeup remover.<h2>I can see why the NYX lip product has received so much hype online, even if it's not my cup of tea</h2>Overall, I was impressed with these TikTok-famous lipsticks. They delivered on the promise of being transfer-proof, and the oil-infused topcoat made my lips feel hydrated and plump. I also appreciate that they're vegan, costs less than $15, and are sold in a wide variety of colors.Still, I'm not sure they're going to replace any of my favorite lipsticks or glosses. I prefer wearing one lip product at a time, and I personally found the matte lipstick too sticky and dry to want to wear it all day - even with a glossy layer on top of it.As is the case with many beauty products, your personal makeup preferences will determine whether or not this lipstick and lip-gloss combo is for you. Lately all of my lip products have been collecting dust, because I've been wearing a mask and I know it's just gonna rub right off, but this is a lip stain that promises to be transfer-proof, waterproof, and supposedly won't budge for 10 hours. It's got a very strange application process. First, you apply the lip mask, and then you spray your lips with this weird activator stuff, peel that off, and hopefully you're left with a beautiful, long-lasting lip stain.OK, let's put this on. I got the shade First Kiss, which says it's supposed to leave behind a cranberry stain. One thing that's a little dangerous about this is you have to get it right the first time, because it's a stain and it's gonna stay on your mouth. And now I have to apply the activator. Now it says that I can peel it off, right after spraying. OK, so I'm clearly not getting a perfect peel out of this. It's just kind of coming apart in pieces, so I'm gonna have to go in with method two of removal, which is using this little towel that comes with it to rub it away.I feel like that took me a while to do, and I had to do it twice, because the first time around it really wasn't peeling up well at all. But it also says not to use a lot of the lip mask, so I'm just, like, kind of confused about the right way to do this to get a nice even peel. But I did it twice, and the color actually does look really, really pretty. It's a lot different than I was expecting it to look. I don't think it looks like this. It looks deeper, which I like more. So that's cool. My lips feel dry. Not, like, terribly dry. I knew that they were gonna feel dry, because it's a lip stain. It's not meant to be particularly moisturizing. It's meant to last you forever. So that's fine. But, I don't know, I feel like this process was not as smooth or easy as I thought it was going to be, even though I do like the result.But now let's move on to the few tests that I had in mind to see how long-lasting it actually is. So we're gonna put on a mask, get some lunch, see if any transfer happens on the way. And then we're gonna eat, see if it starts to fade, and then we're gonna shower. I don't know why I keep saying "we." It's just gonna be me. That's weird.It is literally so cold outside. I'm freezing. Oh, my God, I should have put on a coat. Bag secured. I'm starving. So, now let's take off the mask and see if we got any of the lip stain on the white part of the inside. Oh, do you see that? It's like the shape of my lip. That's that pink line. So there is, like, the tiniest, tiniest, tiniest bit of transfer. It's really not terrible, because I've worn masks with <keyword id="50225" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="lipstick">lipstick</keyword>, lip gloss, liquid lipstick. They all get on the mask. OK, so it didn't do that bad with the mask. Now let's move on to eating, which I think is probably gonna be the hardest challenge for this lip stain. Eating anything always takes away my lip <keyword id="6356288" type="DEFINITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="product">product</keyword> immediately. That egg roll was good, but it was easy. That's too easy. So let's move on to my noodles. I got some vegetable lo mein. I'm full. I cannot go on any longer. So let's just get a little closer and inspect the lip stain. So, the lip stain looks great still. It looks pretty much exactly the same. The only difference is, like, what I can feel. Like, they feel a little bit greasy and oily from the food that I was eating, but nothing has moved so far.So, this lip stain also claims to be waterproof, and I figured we should wet it. It's winter now, so I'm obviously not gonna be swimming in any pools anytime soon, but we can still shower in it and see if it actually is as waterproof as it says. It looks like it's starting to fade in the middle a little bit. Right there, little butthole lips. That shower did a real number on the lip stain. It's fading on the inside pretty fast. I don't know if that was from just hours of wear, we're on the six-hour mark now, but it really has faded significantly since before I took a shower. I guess it's not wild to me that it looks this bad after 10 hours, but it still looks, I would say, worse than what I expected it to look like at this point in time, just because it was supposed to be, like, super transfer-proof, super waterproof, and all that stuff. I feel like it talked a big game, but, like, this is a little disappointing. It's definitely faded. Like, it's nowhere near as vibrant as it was. Anyway, I'm going to bed, and I'll give you my final thoughts tomorrow.The Peel and Reveal Lip Color was unfortunately not the answer to my prayers when it comes to a foolproof, long-lasting lip color, but I think it put up a good fight. I think the transfer-proofness was probably the biggest positive about this lip stain. But if I'm using a long-lasting lip stain like this, it's because I want it to stay put and not have to reapply, especially when the application process is as involved as it is with this one. And by the 10-hour mark, instead of looking great like it did the first few hours, it just looked way past the point of wearable.

Monat is one of many <a href="https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2020/3/26/21187035/mlms-coronavirus-recruit-young-living-doterra-essential-oils">direct-sales companies that have adopted new messaging</a> amid the coronavirus pandemic. They're attracting both individuals looking to buy products and prospective distributors for those products, at a time when most stores and restaurants have been forced to close by shelter-in-place orders and social distancing recommendations. Sales representatives for Monat declined to speak with Business Insider due to a company policy preventing market partners from speaking to the media. Direct-sales companies - also called network-marketing or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mlms-use-social-media-facebook-portray-financial-success-2019-7">multi-level marketing companies</a> - often sell products like essential oils, skincare products, and diet supplements, and employ networks of distributors who work from home and set their own hours. Distributors are typically promised a cut of the profits made from their personal product sales, as well as the sales of any distributors they recruit. A <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/comments/fcnojm/capitalizing_on_coronavirus_panic/">photo posted on Facebook</a> shows bottles of LimeLife's lemon drop hand sanitizer, along with the caption: "What if I told you I knew where you could get some hand sanitizer- since ya know.. coronavirus and all."A distributor for Inteletravel, a travel advisory network-sales company, <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/comments/fhu4da/a_friend_of_mine_is_using_the_coronavirus_to/">took to Facebook to recruit sellers</a> despite a massive drop in traveling amid the pandemic.Emily Green, a sales rep for essential oils company Young Living, said that she's experienced a "sense of urgency in getting access to these products." She said that because of the uncertainty in other fields that may have been more stable, potential sellers are thinking: "Maybe it is time to try something new.'"Distributors for multiple brands told Business Insider that one of the biggest advantages of their jobs is the ability to work from the comfort of their own homes. This has proven to be an especially lucrative perk while the majority of the country is homebound. Monat market partners have been promoting a record number of new consumers and new distributors, celebrating March as the company's third-biggest month in history. A spokesperson for Monat could not confirm these claims, and the social media posts have since been deleted. The beauty industry has been often been touted as <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Business/cosmetics-recession-proof-famous-female-entrepreneurs-built-branded/story?id=14580669">"recession-proof,"</a> and beauty products were one of the only areas during the Great Recession where <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-beauty-sales-recession/sales-of-beauty-products-get-boost-from-recession-idUSBRE86417C20120705">consumer spending rose</a>. Now, with so much of daily life being shaken up by the coronavirus, self-care has become <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-anxiety-therapy-advice-self-care-2020-3">a reliable way to cope</a> with any new or recurrent anxieties. "You're still washing your face, right? People are like, 'You told us we can't touch our face, but I still want to take care of it,''' Lisa Mack, a Mary Kay cosmetics distributor, told Business Insider. "They're stuck at home, and they want to still feel good. People aren't going to a party and buying a party dress. <ul class="summary-list"><li>In his first interview about the film, director <keyword id="10068689" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jason-woliner">Jason Woliner</keyword> revealed behind-the-scenes secrets to filming "<keyword id="10080250" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="borat-2">Borat 2</keyword>."</li><li>He told Insider that from the very first script he read, the plan was to get Rudy Giuliani on film.</li><li>Woliner also spoke about how he tried to talk star and filmmaker <keyword id="59920" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sacha-Baron-Cohen">Sacha Baron Cohen</keyword> out of making a "Borat" sequel the first time they met for fear it might tarnish the legacy of the original.</li><li>The director revealed secrets behind the making of the movie, like the website they created for conservatives Jim and Jerry to find that would lead Borat to Tutar at the gun rally.</li><li>He also said that after the CPAC event scene in which Vice President Mike Pence appeared behind a podium, which was shot with iPhones and DSLR cameras, the secret service looked through their footage to make sure they weren't a threat.</li><li>The Tom Hanks cameo was a one-day shoot that came after Baron Cohen emailed Hanks and asked him if he would be in the movie.</li></ul>We have heard from Sacha Baron Cohen, his amazing costar <a href="https://www.insider.com/who-is-maria-bakalova-star-of-borat-2-duped-rudy-giuliani-10">Maria Bakalova</a>, and even some of the <a href="https://www.insider.com/every-borat-2-character-ranked-2020-10">real-life subjects</a> like the <a href="https://www.insider.com/borat-2-babysitter-movie-gofundme-campaign-jeanise-jones-amazon-stream-2020-10">fan-favorite babysitter</a> and bubbly <a href="https://www.insider.com/borat-2-macy-chanel-interview-2020-10">Instagram influencer</a>, but we still not had heard from the director of "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" - until now."I was sent this crazy encrypted link to an outline script," Jason Woliner told Insider in his first-ever interview about the hit film. "I opened it up and the name 'Borat' wasn't in it, but it took me about a page to realize he's probably not making a movie about a journalist from Guatemala named Sergio. I was like, holy s---, he's doing 'Borat 2.'"Woliner, whose previous work includes Adult Swim's "Eagleheart" and Comedy Central's "Nathan for You," signed on as the director soon after reading that script and has been on a whirlwind ride ever since, watching the sequel become as big - perhaps even bigger - than its predecessor.Woliner spoke to Insider about the making of the movie, which included dealing with the secret service, convincing Tom Hanks to make a cameo, and spending the entire production trying to get Rudy Giuliani on film.<div type="image" title="woliner_borat.JPG" height="1917" width="2557" msid="79685561" hostid="261"></div><h2>In his first meeting with Baron Cohen, Woliner tried to talk him out of making a 'Borat' sequel</h2>So where does this journey start for you?I was the first person Sacha called about directing this. I went into the meeting with him and Anthony Hines, who is a writer that's been involved in everything Sasha has done, Monica Levinson the producer, and a few other people. I told him I loved the script, but I came on very strong. I basically said that "Borat" is the funniest movie ever made and that it's almost certainly a mistake to do a sequel.I said in almost every version of this it's a disaster: most comedy sequels aren't good, the long-delayed sequels are extremely tough, and because of the nature of the movie, Borat is one of the most popular comedy characters of the last century so you have to find people who don't know who he is.So you gave them real talk right from the get-go. I don't know why I decided to do that. I just felt feisty that day, but I also gravitate towards projects that seem impossible. If something feels easy why spend two years of your life on it? How did everyone react to this, especially Sacha?Sacha of course was completely aware of all of it and agreed with everything I said. If I had to guess, I think he respected that I came in with eyes open that I knew what a daunting task it was. A couple of days later, I was invited to the writer's room for a week to see if I got along with Sacha and his writing team. It was the entire group of writers from the first movie and a few new ones. Two days in, I was offered the job and I never left.<div type="image" title="borat 2 amazon studios" height="768" width="1366" msid="79685564" hostid="261"></div><h2>The heartfelt scene between Jeanise the babysitter and Borat was not in the original script</h2>Back then, was the whole story laid out in front of you or was it constantly evolving?A little of both. From the very beginning, Sacha had a vision for the kind of overall story and theme of the movie. He wanted to make a movie that got out before the election that throws into focus what America has become under [President Donald] Trump and could make a meaningful impact. But at the same time, [he] also [wanted to] tell a compelling father-daughter story with the new character of Tutar. He had all that from day one.But the details came a thousand times a day. And then it changed in the biggest way when COVID came into the picture. We had to decide, do we stop or push on? But that thought didn't last long because we wanted this out before the election. And also, my big thing was if we do a movie about 2020 and not have the pandemic, it would be like setting a movie in the fall of 2001 and not mentioning 9/11.When COVID-19 hit the country and you halted production, did you have enough then to make a movie if you wanted to?We did not have a full movie when the lockdown began. We started shooting last fall and...we shot in [chronological] order. That's partially for performance reasons. It's great for the actors to track the emotion of the story. But also through the general structure and big ideas, the outline of the movie...always changed from shooting something.How so? It wasn't in the original plan to go back to Jeanise the babysitter at the end of the movie. But after shooting her that first time and falling in love with her, one of the writers had the idea of having Borat go back to her. Then that became the scene where he realizes he loves Tutar. We always knew Borat and Tutar would be separated and he would have to stop her from giving herself up to Rudy. It just became a question of how that happens?Exactly. So the idea came up with the babysitter. And it was important for me in this movie to not just be revealing negative qualities of real people. I remember very early on saying that the big difference to today and 2006 when the first "Borat" came out is watching someone revealing they are racist is not shocking and compelling as it was back then. I felt what would be more surprising is revealing people's positive qualities and patience. So that's what we hoped with Jeanise and she went way beyond. But that was also the case with Jim and Jerry, the lockdown guys. They aren't bad guys, they are just fed bad information.<div type="image" title="Jim and Jerry Borat 2 Amazon Studios" height="768" width="1366" msid="79685565" hostid="261"></div><h2>Woliner promises Jim and Jerry were not in on the joke</h2>I'm glad you brought up Jim and Jerry because my theory, and I feel I'm not the only one, is because you are shooting them during the pandemic, they had to have been in on the joke. Just in terms of safety and putting Sacha in that situation where he's with people for multiple days, they had to have known. Right?We had ways to make sure the people didn't know who Borat or Sacha was. It's this long process that's very delicate, but by the time they are on camera, we are certain they don't know. Jim and Jerry knew they were being filmed and we took the proper safety precautions - they were tested for COVID. But I can swear to you they were not in on it.They believed he was a real guy. And once they were living in the house, we pretty much put in robo-cams that are used in "Big Brother"-type shows because we wanted them to just live with him and relax. I was in a different bedroom. I slept there. And I would sneak into Sacha's room at night with a writer or two and we would figure out what to do the next day. But for a lot of it, Sacha was on his own with these guys.But there were certain storylines we had to hit. We knew we wanted them to find Tutar on the computer. So that was the kind of thing where we set up a website and engineered it so when they searched for her they would find that site with her video. So they felt they really found her. For that, I was standing just a few feet away, and to watch that moment play out it was like watching a movie in real life. They really cared about Borat and wanted to help him.The only thing you don't see on camera is Jim and Jerry came to me and asked permission to take him to the rally so he could find his daughter. I was like, "Yeah, we can leave the house and do that." Though in reality, we had already been planning to get them to the rally and infiltrating that. Have you heard from Jim and Jerry since? No, I have not. And I haven't seen that anyone has been able to track them down yet. <div type="image" title="rudy giuliani" height="635" width="846" msid="79685568" hostid="261"></div><h2>Rudy Giuliani was the movie's main mark from the beginning</h2>Was going after Giuliani ever on your guys' minds before the pandemic?Here's the craziest thing: Giuliani was the name from day one. [Laughs.] Rudy was the name in the first version I read and what we didn't anticipate was the timing of everything. Rudy became very prominent again just before our movie came out.You're taking about the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-post-hunter-joe-biden-giuliani-red-flags-disinformation-2020-10">Hunter Biden communicating with Ukraine officials</a> story.Yeah. For the year and a half we were making this, he wasn't at the level of prominence he is now. But suddenly just before this came out, he was trying to make a big splash and a few days later <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/oct/21/rudy-giuliani-faces-questions-after-compromising-scene-in-new-borat-film">The Guardian came out</a> with the piece on his scene in the movie and that just blew up. And from my vantage point, it discredited anything he was trying to do. <h2><div type="image" title="Borat 2 Amazon Studios" height="632" width="1200" msid="79685569" hostid="261"></div></h2><h2><keyword id="10159589" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Maria-Bakalova">Maria Bakalova</keyword> did mock interviews to prepare for her scene with Giuliani</h2>When you do the actual interview with Giuliani, is Maria wearing an ear piece? Did you do mock interviews with her beforehand? How did you get her prepared?We did mock interviews and a lot of rehearsing because you don't know how these things are going to go. So instead of a script, we had a document that had every single scenario we could think up that could happen. "If this happens, you can do this." And we just rehearsed with her a lot of different scenarios the day of. But once she was in there, Maria was on her own. You only rehearsed the day of the interview?Yeah. Once we were back up and running during COVID, the pace was fast. We went to Washington to do the lockdown, then to the rally, and then a few other things before doing Rudy. We didn't have a lot of time between things.In the room, we <a href="https://www.insider.com/borat-2-sacha-baron-cohen-rudy-giuliani-scene-2020-10">built a cubby for Sacha</a> to be in and I was in a nearby room watching and texting with him and figuring out when he should come out and save her. One of the writers came up with an idea that Tutar would have a Disney knock-off Melania story that she would watch as a way of showing her character's hopes and dreams. This company Titmouse did it. They did it all while we were filming the movie and they would send us rough versions and we would give notes.There's actually more of that animation. Ultimately only two short clips made it, but there is some more. We've talked about releasing it. <div type="image" title="Tom Hanks Borat 2 Amazon Studios" height="768" width="1366" msid="79685578" hostid="261"></div><h2>Sacha Baron Cohen emailed Tom Hanks to be in the movie</h2>How did you get Tom Hanks?[Laughs.] Once we came up with the idea that Borat would be COVID patient zero, someone had the joke that we see him stop in Sydney and he coughs on Tom Hanks. Sacha knows him and just sent him an email and we just crossed our fingers that he would be up for it. He said, "Sure." That was a scene we wanted to be very clear that was scripted and we weren't actually ambushing the most beloved man in America. And actually, I'm in that scene. I'm the guy trying to get the selfie and Borat interrupts.<div type="image" title="Mike Pence Borat 2 Amazon Studios" height="768" width="1024" msid="79685585" hostid="261"></div><h2>Woliner and his crew had to attend five hours of the Conservative Political Action Conference so as not to draw attention, but the secret service still caught them</h2>What was the hardest bit to pull off? The logistics of CPAC was intense. We had to put 12 camera operators in the audience and I had to plan out the [shooting] angles without ever being in the room beforehand. We were the first in line, that's how CPAC is done, you just line up. We lined up at 5 a.m., we didn't have media credentials, we were just attendees. All we had were iPhones and little DSLR 5D cameras. So I had to place all these camera operators in the room in a way so we can get the angles on Pence and angles on where Sacha is going to reveal himself. And then cameras on reaction shots of people. But I had to do that not looking suspicious to the security and secret service. If I'm running around looking like a director I would be caught out. To an outsider, it looks like we're pulling off a heist, but in reality, we're not doing anything illegal.We set it up and then we had to wait five hours. I had to listen to five hours of Republican speeches drumming up hysteria about socialism.And keeping tabs on Sacha who is <a href="https://www.insider.com/borat-2-craziest-things-filming-sacha-baron-cohen-2020-10">in the bathroom</a> this whole time, right?Yeah. We're texting the whole time. I'm on a thread with him and with all the camera operators, and the crew. Sacha comes in wearing a fat suit and a bullet proof vest in case the secret service thinks he's trying to kill the vice president. And he's got his Trump facial prosthetic which takes hours to put on. If the authorities asked him to take off the mask he couldn't just pull it off.<div type="image" title="&quot;Borat 2&quot;" height="1304" width="1738" msid="79685591" hostid="261"></div>This isn't like something out of "Mission: Impossible." He physically couldn't. It's much easier for Tom Cruise to take those heads off than it does in real life. [Laughs.] So because of that we also snuck into CPAC an Oscar-winning prosthetic makeup artist just in case Sacha was apprehended and demanded the face come off she would have the tools to do it.There's so much tension but I was also so bored because I had to listen for hours of the crowd being warned about how Bernie Sanders is going to socialize medicine. And I had to get up and cheer when everyone else did because if I didn't I would draw attention to myself. It was a crazy mix of terror and boredom. Then that night the secret service tracked us down to make sure we weren't a real threat [to the vice president].When did you know that you pulled it off and "Borat 2" may actually live up to the original movie?It was along the way. I remember feeling it was working in my gut after stuff like the debutante ball and the doctor in the crisis pregnancy center. When we had Borat and Tutar together it felt really funny and something we hadn't seen before. The great thing with working with Sacha is he never phoned it in, he was determined to make it as good as it could be and he was definitely aware of the legacy of the first movie. And when we ultimately had to show it through streaming instead of theaters, this felt so necessary just because how dark things had gotten in the world. If you could do a piece of <keyword id="4578" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="entertainment">entertainment</keyword> that could make tens of millions of people laugh at the same time, even if you're stuck in your home, it felt like the closest thing to me of what the first movie felt like.
