It's basically a lip gloss-lip color combo that promises 16-hour, no-transfer wear. This whole no-budge, no-bleed, no-fade thing sounds a little too good to be true, especially for 16 hours, so we're gonna be putting it to the test. Actually, multiple tests, because I'm going to be eating, drinking, kissing my hand, and showering on top of wearing this lip color for the next 16 hours. These could be great for all of the mask wearing we're doing, so let me put this on, and we can start the timer. So, this is a two-step application process.First you put on the lip color, and you have to wait 90 seconds for it to dry. Then you can go in and apply the lip gloss, which is actually really, really smooth and really nice feeling on the lips. The lip color does feel kind of sticky before the dry-down starts to happen. It's like you can't rub your lips together, because I'm pretty sure it'll, like, lift the color and move stuff around. I think the actual pigmentation is really, really good. Like, this is intense. It's so bright and vibrant. The gloss, this is good. This is good stuff. I would buy this if it was separate from the lip color. This is that good. It has zero smell, which is also something that I always appreciate.Now I'm just gonna kiss the back of my hand to see if there's any transfer. This is how I make out. I don't see anything. The gloss at this point has fully rubbed off. The gloss is not what's transfer-proof, it's the actual lip color, but the lip color doesn't seem to be moving. I'm rubbing. And another thing is that it doesn't feel drying, which I feel like is always associated with these long-wearing lip products. It doesn't feel drying at all, especially because you can put the gloss on top without worrying about it messing up the color.And just to see if these are actually mask-proof, we're gonna try it out with my mask. The inside of it is white. There is some makeup on it. Ignore that, but let's see if any transfer comes off on the mask. I should probably talk. La, la, la, la, la! [laughs] Um, I don't know what to say. But at this point there's probably something on the mask. I see another one of those little red dots that I think is just flaking off from the inside of my mouth. But I don't see any of the <keyword id="50225" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="lipstick">lipstick</keyword> on here.OK, I'm starving, so it's a good time to test how well this lipstick holds up while I'm eating and drinking. So, I tried to get foods that are, like, a little on the messy side. So we have some very saucy pasta, this is penne with vodka sauce, and we also have garlic bread, which is going to be very oily, it's greasy, so hopefully this stays put. I'm not seeing anything come off on the can. So, here's what my lips look like after eating for a while. I feel like there's no difference, except that now my lips have cheese on them. I guess what I was expecting was that the oil from the food was gonna start to break it down into, like, a slipperier texture, and it's not doing that. It still feels totally dry. It is 3:10 p.m. right now. I put this on at around 11 a.m. this morning. All of my lip gloss has pretty much disappeared. My lips are starting to feel slightly drier than when I first applied, but it's nothing too terrible. I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable.These Nyx lip colors aren't technically marketed as waterproof, but I ran some swatches under water and they did not budge, which is making me think that they definitely are, so let's see how it holds up when I'm in the shower. Here's how my lips are looking after that shower. I feel like they look a lot drier than they feel. It's interesting, it doesn't feel very dry at all. It hasn't changed in dryness from the last time I commented on it, but it looks kind of, like, crackly. Still nothing. Nothing is transferring, nothing transferred with the water, so I think that this is holding up pretty good, actually.I was supposed to wake up at 5 a.m. to do my 16-hour check-in, and it's now 7 a.m., so I have had this lipstick on my lips for the past 18 hours. I'm ready to take it off, but thoroughly impressed with how much lipstick is on my mouth at this point in time. You can see that it really came apart in the inside and did kind of flake off in some areas, like right here it looks like some came off. I know that I wore this two hours longer than I said I was going to, but I think that makes it all the more impressive, OK? 'Cause it's still there. This is not maybe 100% perfect, but this has probably been one of the most long-lasting lip products I think I've ever tried. Maybe I'm just, like, still half asleep and can't really see very well. Ignore my face. This looks.... I'm gonna go take a shower now and put on some clothes, maybe run a brush through my hair, and then I will tell you what I think about the Shine Loud lip colors. I just applied some all over my lips and let it sit for a bit, then used a micellar wipe. It did take a couple of tries, but eventually it all came off. The lipstick originally felt smooth and comfortable, and it looked opaque and shiny on my lips. Unfortunately, the product became less pleasant as it dried. I couldn't even move my lips without them sticking together and creating creases in the lip color.By the time 90 seconds were up, my lips felt extremely dry, sticky, and uncomfortable. After all, the product is still usable, even with a faulty brush. That being said, I've noticed others have faced the same problem. More frustrating than the brush, in my opinion, is the fact that you can't wear the matte lip color on its own. It feels far too sticky and uncomfortable without the gloss applied on top, making the product less versatile overall. And because I found myself touching up the gloss throughout the day, I worry that I'll run out of one product before the other.The lipstick was also so transfer-proof that I had trouble removing it at the end of the day. A standard makeup wipe barely worked. Instead, it took an oil-infused makeup-removing balm to erase all the color.While that wouldn't be an issue for me day-to-day - I don't typically use makeup wipes - I do worry that if I wanted to remove the lip product mid-day, I'd have to wait until I had access to a heavy-duty makeup remover.<h2>I can see why the NYX lip product has received so much hype online, even if it's not my cup of tea</h2>Overall, I was impressed with these TikTok-famous lipsticks. They delivered on the promise of being transfer-proof, and the oil-infused topcoat made my lips feel hydrated and plump. I also appreciate that they're vegan, costs less than $15, and are sold in a wide variety of colors.Still, I'm not sure they're going to replace any of my favorite lipsticks or glosses. I prefer wearing one lip product at a time, and I personally found the matte lipstick too sticky and dry to want to wear it all day - even with a glossy layer on top of it.As is the case with many beauty products, your personal makeup preferences will determine whether or not this lipstick and lip-gloss combo is for you. I tried an $11 lipstick that claims to be smudge-proof, and it worked so well that I had trouble taking it off

Lately all of my lip products have been collecting dust, because I've been wearing a mask and I know it's just gonna rub right off, but this is a lip stain that promises to be transfer-proof, waterproof, and supposedly won't budge for 10 hours. It's got a very strange application process. First, you apply the lip mask, and then you spray your lips with this weird activator stuff, peel that off, and hopefully you're left with a beautiful, long-lasting lip stain.OK, let's put this on. I got the shade First Kiss, which says it's supposed to leave behind a cranberry stain. One thing that's a little dangerous about this is you have to get it right the first time, because it's a stain and it's gonna stay on your mouth. And now I have to apply the activator. Now it says that I can peel it off, right after spraying. OK, so I'm clearly not getting a perfect peel out of this. It's just kind of coming apart in pieces, so I'm gonna have to go in with method two of removal, which is using this little towel that comes with it to rub it away.I feel like that took me a while to do, and I had to do it twice, because the first time around it really wasn't peeling up well at all. But it also says not to use a lot of the lip mask, so I'm just, like, kind of confused about the right way to do this to get a nice even peel. But I did it twice, and the color actually does look really, really pretty. It's a lot different than I was expecting it to look. I don't think it looks like this. It looks deeper, which I like more. So that's cool. My lips feel dry. Not, like, terribly dry. I knew that they were gonna feel dry, because it's a lip stain. It's not meant to be particularly moisturizing. It's meant to last you forever. So that's fine. But, I don't know, I feel like this process was not as smooth or easy as I thought it was going to be, even though I do like the result.But now let's move on to the few tests that I had in mind to see how long-lasting it actually is. So we're gonna put on a mask, get some lunch, see if any transfer happens on the way. And then we're gonna eat, see if it starts to fade, and then we're gonna shower. I don't know why I keep saying "we." It's just gonna be me. That's weird.It is literally so cold outside. I'm freezing. Oh, my God, I should have put on a coat. Bag secured. I'm starving. So, now let's take off the mask and see if we got any of the lip stain on the white part of the inside. Oh, do you see that? It's like the shape of my lip. That's that pink line. So there is, like, the tiniest, tiniest, tiniest bit of transfer. It's really not terrible, because I've worn masks with <keyword id="50225" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="lipstick">lipstick</keyword>, lip gloss, liquid lipstick. They all get on the mask. OK, so it didn't do that bad with the mask. Now let's move on to eating, which I think is probably gonna be the hardest challenge for this lip stain. Eating anything always takes away my lip <keyword id="6356288" type="DEFINITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="product">product</keyword> immediately. That egg roll was good, but it was easy. That's too easy. So let's move on to my noodles. I got some vegetable lo mein. I'm full. I cannot go on any longer. So let's just get a little closer and inspect the lip stain. So, the lip stain looks great still. It looks pretty much exactly the same. The only difference is, like, what I can feel. Like, they feel a little bit greasy and oily from the food that I was eating, but nothing has moved so far.So, this lip stain also claims to be waterproof, and I figured we should wet it. It's winter now, so I'm obviously not gonna be swimming in any pools anytime soon, but we can still shower in it and see if it actually is as waterproof as it says. It looks like it's starting to fade in the middle a little bit. Right there, little butthole lips. That shower did a real number on the lip stain. It's fading on the inside pretty fast. I don't know if that was from just hours of wear, we're on the six-hour mark now, but it really has faded significantly since before I took a shower. I guess it's not wild to me that it looks this bad after 10 hours, but it still looks, I would say, worse than what I expected it to look like at this point in time, just because it was supposed to be, like, super transfer-proof, super waterproof, and all that stuff. I feel like it talked a big game, but, like, this is a little disappointing. It's definitely faded. Like, it's nowhere near as vibrant as it was. Anyway, I'm going to bed, and I'll give you my final thoughts tomorrow.The Peel and Reveal Lip Color was unfortunately not the answer to my prayers when it comes to a foolproof, long-lasting lip color, but I think it put up a good fight. I think the transfer-proofness was probably the biggest positive about this lip stain. But if I'm using a long-lasting lip stain like this, it's because I want it to stay put and not have to reapply, especially when the application process is as involved as it is with this one. And by the 10-hour mark, instead of looking great like it did the first few hours, it just looked way past the point of wearable.

These tools should be thoroughly sanitized and disinfected, and the way they're stored at some salons isn't conducive to keeping them clean. If your technicians "are getting tools loose out of a drawer and they are not in a sterilization packet, chances are they have not been cleaned properly," she told Business Insider.<h2 id="11412673-9710-408c-a0cc-72ec72a96445">Porous files and buffers should ideally only be used on one client </h2>It's easy to tell if a nail file or buffer has been used previously — and a fresh one is best, said Villamore Falls. "If you see scratches or marks/lines on the file or buffer, they were likely used on a previous client or clients," she told BI. "Porous implements can carry germs and bacteria and should really only be used once."She said that if you're getting a pedicure and manicure at the same appointment, nail technicians should also use separate tools for your hands and feet.<h2 id="5c9ee51d-95d5-4cb8-9d78-eb6cbe931ad4">Nail technicians not wearing proper gear can be a red flag, too </h2>According to Lana Kars, CEO and founder of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/russian_nails_nyc">Russian Nails</a>, your nail technician should follow specific practices for proper hygiene, like wearing disposable face masks and gloves.Kars said a proper technician may also wear a disposable gown and hat. All of these wearables should be disposed of after each client."This helps prevent the spread of bacteria and contaminants that could compromise the health and safety of clients," she explained.<h2 id="1f34ecd9-d7fb-48f9-9c58-b28813a562c4">Uncovered pedicure chairs may not be the cleanest</h2>Kars told BI that salons should cover pedicure chairs with disposable materials to prioritize good hygiene. Disposable sheets or covers can be quickly tossed and replaced when rotating clients in and out."Using disposable sheets demonstrates to clients that the salon prioritizes cleanliness and hygiene," she said. <div type="image" title="People sitting in salon chairs" height="1054" width="1581" msid="110252520" hostid="261" sizebytes="68810"></div><h2 id="69098f77-29ca-42c7-a87d-4a11e37a1647">Keep an eye out for foot files with blades or graters</h2>Patricia Reign, licensed manicurist and owner of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.travelingaura.com/">Traveling Aura Mobile Spa</a>, warns against getting a pedicure from a salon that uses abrasive foot filing tools."Foot files, also known as callus removers, with blades or 'cheese graters' are a major red flag. <a target="_blank" href="https://ktvo.com/news/local/credo-blade-warning">Blades are banned in salons</a>, and 'cheese graters' are not intended for feet," she said.Plus, the aggressive nature of these tools can cause more issues. In some cases, the blades can remove layers of skin meant to protect you, which can make your feet feel tender.<h2 id="bf7cba6b-306a-4e99-ac2b-0748216eddc8">Household cleaning products aren't enough to disinfect equipment</h2>Reign told BI it's a red flag "if a salon uses household products to clean their chairs.""These products often fail to meet the stringent requirements set by state boards for effectively disinfecting surfaces used to provide services to multiple individuals," she said.In many cases, salon staff should be using hospital-grade disinfectants to properly clean their workspaces.

Monat is one of many <a href="https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2020/3/26/21187035/mlms-coronavirus-recruit-young-living-doterra-essential-oils">direct-sales companies that have adopted new messaging</a> amid the coronavirus pandemic. They're attracting both individuals looking to buy products and prospective distributors for those products, at a time when most stores and restaurants have been forced to close by shelter-in-place orders and social distancing recommendations. Sales representatives for Monat declined to speak with Business Insider due to a company policy preventing market partners from speaking to the media. Direct-sales companies - also called network-marketing or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mlms-use-social-media-facebook-portray-financial-success-2019-7">multi-level marketing companies</a> - often sell products like essential oils, skincare products, and diet supplements, and employ networks of distributors who work from home and set their own hours. Distributors are typically promised a cut of the profits made from their personal product sales, as well as the sales of any distributors they recruit. Products are shipped directly to consumers, a convenience for both parties and an easy way to prevent potential community spread of the coronavirus.Because they can continue their work mostly unhindered, these companies are taking this opportunity to promote their businesses as a safe alternative."The companies are so desperate to get people to join now, so they've really amped up their recruitment," Emma Rose told Business Insider. Rose is a former network-sales distributor who now hosts <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-anti-mlm-podcast/id1500761911">"The Anti-MLM Podcast."</a> She said, "They're counting on the fact people are scared and looking for something to help them. They're all selling promises."Sales representatives for companies like Young Living, Limelife, Mary Kay, and Younique told Business Insider they've fielded a swell of newfound interest from recruits who have quickly found themselves jobless and in need of supplemental income. Recently, the messaging has been framed around people's biggest worries during the pandemic and the looming economic recession, Summer Sanders, a 36-year-old mother living in Texas, said.Sanders is one of the moderators of the Facebook group <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/SoundslikeMLMbutok/">"Sounds like MLM but ok."</a> The group has more than 160,000 members who share sales experiences gone bad and vent about Facebook posts from long-lost classmates trying to sell their work-from-home lifestyle. Sanders told Business Insider that she's seen a "huge uptick" in posts from distributors, who often try to harness the panic that can accompany tragedies and disasters as a sales tactic to encourage people to join their ranks.The dozens of examples of this messaging found on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter - and posted in the Reddit thread, <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/">r/antiMLM</a> - show just that.A Facebook post promoting Arbonne, a company that sells a line of vegan skincare, cosmetics, and nutrition products, <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/comments/fhnr4g/lady_tries_to_convince_people_to_join_arbonne/">reads</a>: "People are FREAKING out ... If you're looking for me, I'm just over here hanging out, building my germ free multi-million dollar global business from home." A <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/comments/fcnojm/capitalizing_on_coronavirus_panic/">photo posted on Facebook</a> shows bottles of LimeLife's lemon drop hand sanitizer, along with the caption: "What if I told you I knew where you could get some hand sanitizer- since ya know.. coronavirus and all."A distributor for Inteletravel, a travel advisory network-sales company, <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/comments/fhu4da/a_friend_of_mine_is_using_the_coronavirus_to/">took to Facebook to recruit sellers</a> despite a massive drop in traveling amid the pandemic.Emily Green, a sales rep for essential oils company Young Living, said that she's experienced a "sense of urgency in getting access to these products." She said that because of the uncertainty in other fields that may have been more stable, potential sellers are thinking: "Maybe it is time to try something new.'"Distributors for multiple brands told Business Insider that one of the biggest advantages of their jobs is the ability to work from the comfort of their own homes. This has proven to be an especially lucrative perk while the majority of the country is homebound. Monat market partners have been promoting a record number of new consumers and new distributors, celebrating March as the company's third-biggest month in history. A spokesperson for Monat could not confirm these claims, and the social media posts have since been deleted. The company reportedly raked in <a href="https://www.businessforhome.org/companies/monat-global-review/">nearly $400 million in revenue</a> last year."I'm making more sales than I did before," Adrian Elia, an independent seller for makeup company Younique, told Business Insider. She said her customers are "seeing the perks to what I do, how it's benefiting me, and what it could do help them as well. ... The only backlash I've ever received is from someone who doesn't believe in network-marketing companies."Elia's sentiment echoes a trend within the industry that Rose, the former distributor turned podcaster, explained to Business Insider: "When you're in an MLM, you're taught that everyone else on the outside is just haters."Network-sales businesses are often derided by critics as pyramid schemes, but lauded by their members as ways to work on your own schedule or become your own boss. The beauty industry has been often been touted as <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Business/cosmetics-recession-proof-famous-female-entrepreneurs-built-branded/story?id=14580669">"recession-proof,"</a> and beauty products were one of the only areas during the Great Recession where <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-beauty-sales-recession/sales-of-beauty-products-get-boost-from-recession-idUSBRE86417C20120705">consumer spending rose</a>. Now, with so much of daily life being shaken up by the coronavirus, self-care has become <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-anxiety-therapy-advice-self-care-2020-3">a reliable way to cope</a> with any new or recurrent anxieties. "You're still washing your face, right? People are like, 'You told us we can't touch our face, but I still want to take care of it,''' Lisa Mack, a Mary Kay cosmetics distributor, told Business Insider. "They're stuck at home, and they want to still feel good. People aren't going to a party and buying a party dress.
