The setting is rural India. The stories and characters are local. The more authentically local the show is, the better it travels,” Ted Sarandos chief content officer of Netflix told Business Insider India on June 18. All for the eyeballs Netflix had about 5% market reach in India, across platforms-- both web and mobile-- according to data from Comscore verified by Business Insider. This is largely because Netflix is the most expensive among all streaming platforms in India. The American video streaming platform has been trying to keep itself “premium” in India and hence the all it’s plans are priced more than twice of what other OTT platforms charge. The basic Netflix plan starts at ₹500 a month, whereas, <keyword id="2739840" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hotstar">Hotstar</keyword>’s premium membership starts at ₹299 a month. Amazon’s prime membership starts from ₹129 a month — and it has a lot more to offer than just its video streaming platform. Giving in, reluctantly Netflix is eyeing to capture a bigger pie of the Indian OTT market by rolling out domestic contest. Separately, it is also reportedly testing a mobile-only plan that is estimated to be price from ₹250 onwards — half the price of it’s basic plan in India. But with the announcement of 5 new shows, Netflix seems to be hoping that content will win viewers over than just the pricing. Also, following the Amazon’s footsteps, Netflix is also going to roll out Bombay Begum (much similar to Prime’s Four more shots) which is going to tell the story of five urban women. Netflix today announced five new original series across a variety of genres including Young Adult, drama, thriller, horror and comedy. With deadly zombies, scary gangsters and daring friends, these incredibly diverse Indian stories are for mainstream audiences in India and around the world. Netflix’s successful shows Huma Qureshi’s Leila — released on June 14 — made headlines for being one of the few dystopian dramas in India. Further, India’s most favourite Netflix series — Sacred Games— is also said to be a big hit in India and abroad. Sacred Games brought the dark underbelly of Mumbai’s underworld. Infact, a media reported pointed that 2 out 3 people watching Sacred Games were based out of India. This investment has made Alteria Capital the biggest venture debt fund in the country. According to reports, it is also SIDBI’s single largest investment, as the government nodal agency pumped in as much as ₹160 crore. Alteria Capital was founded by Ajay Hattangdi and Vinod Murali who had earlier led Innoven Capital. The firm has so far invested in hyperlocal delivery startup Dunzo, electric bike startup Vogo, student accommodation startup Stanza Living among others. The firm also placed its bets on cricketer Virat Kohli’s apparel brand Wrogn. Meanwhile, ace entrepreneur and investor Binny Bansal has been on an investment spree. In July, he invested in fashion designer Masaba Gupta’s brand. In June, Bansal sold some of his shares in Flipkart for $76.4 million, according to filings sourced by paper.vc. That leaves him with a residual share of 3.52% in the company he co-founded. He made personal investments too, like in insurtech startup Acko and legal startup Spotdraft amongst others. Interestingly, earlier Bansal for his own fund had raised money from his co-investor in the round for Alteria Capital – Premji Foundation. Bansal formed 021 Capital with his financial adviser Sailesh Tulshan for which he had raised $32 million from Premji Foundation and a few former Flipkart colleagues.

However, the report also says that given Flipkart’s subsidiary company Phonepe’s growth, the company’s valuation could have risen. It means Bansal’s buyout could be worth $25 million. His stake in the company will be as a little as 3%, after the deal. Flipkart was also in the news recently as its board gave approval for its employees to cash out stock options for over $100 million. Employees could liquidate 10% of their stock options in the company. In June 2019, rumours were rife that <keyword id="80487" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="walmart">Walmart</keyword> is looking to exit from Flipkart as the latter heads for an IPO in the US. It was then that Bansal had sold some of his shares. Bansal, who had exited from all operational roles in the company over allegations of personal misconduct, sold a part of his shares for $76.4 million, according to filings sourced by paper.vc. During the sale of Flipkart to Walmart in 2018, Bansal made as much as $159 million by selling over 1.1 million shares. Cashing out for investments Since his Flipkart exit, Bansal turned into a full-time investor. In January this year, Binny Bansal had closed the first round of $32 million for his VC fund called ‘021 Capital’ which he formed with Sailesh Tulshan, his financial adviser. The former Flipkart Group CEO also raised a round from Premji Foundation and is also backed by former Flipkart employees. Since then, he has made personal bets like in Masaba Gupta’s fashion label, insurtech startup Acko and legal startup Spotdraft amongst others.

The company has joined hands with designer labels like Outhouse, Masaba Gupta, <keyword id="667" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ritu-Kumar">Ritu Kumar</keyword> and Shehla Khan. 
 
Who are these people? 
Omapal Technologies, the company that runs Flyrobe was founded in September 2015 by IIT Bombay alumni Shreya Mishra, Pranay Surana and Tushar Saxena. The founders – Sh 
reya Mishra, Pranay Surana, and Tushar Saxena have come together over the belief that ‘shared economy’ in fashion can work wonders. 
 
Before starting Flyrobe, Mishra was working as an analyst with Everstone Capital, Surana has earlier worked as a senior analyst at Deutsche Bank and Saxena was earlier chief technology officer at Triptainment Technologies. 
 
Troubled times for Sector 
The apparel rental space has been facing tough times recently. Ethnic market-place, Craftsvilla <a href="http://www.vccircle.com/news/technology/2016/04/28/ethnic-products-marketplace-craftsvilla-buys-clothing-rental-startup" target="_blank">acqui-hired</a> women clothing rental platform F2SO4 and Bangalore-based online apparel rental platform Klozee <a href="http://techcircle.vccircle.com/2016/05/13/online-apparel-rental-platform-klozee-shuts-down-co-founders-join-livspace/" target="_blank">closed</a> operations. 
 
Others startups operating in this space include Revamp My Closet, which was also recently acqui-hired by Spoyl, another online platform. 
 
Big Money to be made, apparently 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=PricewaterhouseCoopers&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">PricewaterhouseCoopers</a> estimates the global sharing economy will grow from $15 billion today to $335 billion by 2025. However, its yet to pick up big time when it comes to apparel. Transportation, accommodation, and food and beverages sectors are doing better. 
 
Flyrobe estimates the fashion rental market, including western and ethnic wear is worth $4-5 billion today. 
 
Rental economy picking up? 
In India, the idea of rented apparel has been reserved to graduation, fancy dress competitions and theme parties. 
 
However, as large scale immigration to bigger cities across the country picks up, investor interest too is growing. Back in November, furniture rental company <a href="https://www.rentomojo.com/" target="_blank">RentoMojo</a> raised $2 million in funding and Klozee raised a seed round from TracxnLabs and angels in August.
