New Delhi, <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> plans to set up separate sales network for its electric passenger vehicles in current fiscal year as it looks to give differentiated experience to the buyers opting for the environment-friendly models, according to a top company official. The Mumbai-based auto major, which on Thursday introduced all-new versions of its Nexon EV and Nexon (internal combustion engine), said it will start experimenting with new outlets in some of the cities where EV volumes have gone up. "We'll have to separate them (sales outlets for EVs and ICE) given that we have different requirements of customers and also a growing portfolio (of EVs)" Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra told PTI in an interaction. He said the company would look at places where it would be viable to have exclusive outlets for the EV range. "We need to separate outlets because there would not be enough space to keep both EVs, ICE models at the same place..So there's a practical difficulty... we will not be able to do justice to both. So you will start seeing exclusive outlets starting slowly from the coming quarters," Chandra stated. Tata Motors' current EV portfolio comprises the flagship SUV Nexon EV range, <keyword id="6065520" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tiago-ev" source="Orion">Tiago EV</keyword>, <keyword id="6043301" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tigor-ev" source="Orion">Tigor EV</keyword> and the XPRES-T EV. When asked about the locations where the exclusive outlets would come up, Chandra said: "We'll start with pilot cities. I can't disclose the locations right now. But as I said that within this financial year, we'll start with some experiment." The company recently introduced the new retail identity for its unit Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Tata Motors utilises the shop-in-shop concept in its existing dealerships to retail EV models. Chandra said the demand for EVs is witnessing an upward trend and for Tata Motors, the EV range accounts for 13-15 per cent of the company's overall sales. "Revenue wise it will be 18-20 per cent as of quarter one. Next three to four years I would imagine this to go up to 25 per cent," he added. Tata Motors expects electric vehicles to account for half of its passenger vehicle sales by 2030, Chandra said. The new Nexon.ev is priced between Rs 14.74-19.94 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes with a maximum range of 465 km in a single charge. The model can charge another compatible EV and can also power external gadgets, appliances such as electrical camping equipment, power tools and a variety of consumer electronics devices. Chandra stated that EV customers constitute a unique community that is fast growing and distinguished by their evolved choices and hunger for next-gen technology. "The Nexon.ev aptly fulfils their evolving, astute preferences with a technologically advanced, on-the-move solution that seamlessly blends with their contemporary way of life," he added. The company also introduced the Nexon with petrol and diesel engines with introductory prices starting from Rs 8.09 lakh (ex-showroom). Chandra said the compact SUV segment, in which Nexon competes with the likes of <keyword id="3230369" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="maruti-brezza" source="Orion">Maruti Brezza</keyword>, Hyundai Venue, <keyword id="8462155" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kia-sonet" source="Orion">Kia Sonet</keyword>, has grown very steeply over the years. "When we had launched Nexon in 2017, this segment used to see sales of 30,000 units a month, today it has grown to 90,000 units a month," he noted. This is the most intensely fought segment as well with all the leading players having a product in the market, Chandra said. Tata Motors has sold 5.5 lakh units of Nexon so far in the country. "We are confident that this new avatar of the Nexon will appeal to a wider audience of customers, cement its position as India's best selling SUV and further enrich its legacy," Chandra stated. The new generation Nexon comes with six airbags as standard fitment among other features.

Upcoming new SUVs in India 2023

The pre-owned cars market is expected to grow at a Compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16% from FY ’22 – FY‘27 while the new car market will grow at a CAGR of 10%, the report highlights. “This year, emerging from the impact of Covid-19, the pre-owned car market is poised for further acceleration in the coming years. There is a clear preference for pre-owned cars among consumers in larger towns, fuelled by an accelerated shift to digital channels - that offer higher convenience and build consumer trust,” said Amit Kumar, CEO, OLX India. The report further suggests that the pre-owned car market is expected to double in size from 4.1 million units in FY22 to 8.2 million units in FY27, increasing its lead by 1.7x over the new car market. According to the report, the market also achieved pre-pandemic levels in terms of volume and has grown by 9% since then. Return to near-normalcy, improved consumer sentiment, increase in mobility, opening of offices and a resurgence in travel are some of the major reasons behind this massive growth in the pre-owned car segment in India, according to the report. It is clear that overall demand for cars in India is growing as the market for new cars is also expected to grow and reach 4.8-5 million cars by FY27. “In fact, the new car market will record high sales in FY23 backed by improvement in production levels, product launches coupled with continued traction for the UV segment,” the report said. When South Korean car brand <keyword id="6372046" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kia">Kia</keyword> launched its first SUV, <a href="https://www.carandbike.com/kia-cars/seltos" data-type="tilCustomLink">Kia Seltos</a>, in India in August 2019, it had a lot of odds stacked up against it. The sector itself was going through the worst ever sales slump across two and four wheelers. Added to that, India is predominantly a small car market, leaving a large section of buyers away from it. Yet, it looks like Kia, which set up a factory in Andhra Pradesh, seemed to have packed in what Indians want - good quality at value. By March 2020, it became the largest selling SUV, surprising even the trade pundits. Soon, it had a problem that many automakers would love to have, way too much demand which is affecting their delivery time, making them switch to two shifts. “KIA’s successful entry in India has further enabled the group to gain market share. KIA is a great example of successful badge engineering, something other original equipment manufacturers like Renault-Nissan have been unable to accomplish,” said Sumit Bali, president and head of retail lending and payment, at Axis Bank said during an Axis Capital conference. Cool and futuristic features Its attractive price point at around Rs 9.8 lakhs, Indian love for compact SUVs, and its futuristic technology, and the tiger-nose grille design was too good to pass up. Kia Seltos’ success will continue to haunt many new car launches

Even though <keyword id="60427" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="SUVs">SUVs</keyword> are seen as giant polluters and harmful to the environment, Indians seem to have a liking for these big cars. A recent report released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/SIAM-wants-Excise-Duty-on-Large-Cars-and-SUVs-slashed/articleshow/50996481.cms">SIAM</a>) has said one out of every four new vehicles on Indian roads is an SUV. 
 
As per the report, the trend of owning an SUV is getting stronger with each passing year, which can also be a result of several upcoming SUV launches. While at the end of March 2010, SUVs held a 14% share in the overall passenger vehicle sales, this grew to 25% at the end of March 2017.

While in 2016-17, sales of cars grew by a mere 4%, demand for SUVs went up by 30%. 
 
"SUVs are a global trend and very much liked in India as well. The large and varied spread of the country, with strong challenges when it comes to road infrastructure, makes them a necessity when one wants a stronger, safer and high-seating vehicle," said Rakesh Srivastava, senior VP (sales &amp; marketing), at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/hyundai-is-launching-kona-its-first-sub-compact/articleshow/58029941.cms">Hyundai India</a>. "This trend will continue and I feel that the share of SUVs will rise to nearly 30 per cent over the next one year,” he added. 
 
Even though one can’t deny the strong growth in the compact SUV segment (like Maruti Brezza and Ford Ecosport, priced under Rs 10 lakh), there has been an equally strong growth in the bigger segment that has models like Hyundai's Creta, priced above Rs 10 lakh.

Even though industry experts feel that all products under SUV tags don’t carry original SUV characteristics, which can be characterized as brute raw power, giant proportions and 4X4 (all-wheel drive) capability, the common public does not share the sentiment. 
 
This could be cited as the reason behind increasing popularity of models like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kwid+india&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Renault Kwid</a>, a hatchback with SUV-like interiors. Cross-overs and mini-SUVs, which come with smaller diesel engines and are less than four metres in length are currently enjoying great demand. 
 
"They seem to fit the bill as they are easy on the pocket when it comes to affordability, and also give a sense of off-roaders in their shape and design. The trick works with buyers and we are happy to ride the wave," an official with a top company told TNN on condition of anonymity.
