It's a light day for data, so for Europe the major release is the Sentix investor confidence index at 9.30 a.m. GMT. Economists are expecting a bit of an improvement, but given the significant fall in confidence over recent months, it's still likely to be pretty bad.

<ul><li><keyword id="180259" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dentsu">dentsu</keyword>'s new story analysed responses from 1,361 <keyword id="6597439" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="CMOS">CMOs</keyword> across 12 markets on how they are navigating a new kind of recovery.</li><li>The report revealed that despite challenges, CMOs are reclaiming the strategic agenda with a particular focus on product development.</li><li>The biggest challenge facing CMOs is understanding which consumer behaviours will change permanently and which will fall away in the post-COVID environment.</li></ul>A new study of 1,361 CMOs across 12 markets, by global media, digital and creative communications agency dentsu, analyses how CMOs are navigating a new kind of recovery, revealing that, despite a challenging period, CMOs are reclaiming the strategic agenda with a particular focus on product development. More than 450 CMOs from Australia, China, India and Japan were surveyed. The study finds that the number one challenge facing CMOs is understanding which consumer behaviours will change permanently and which will fall away in the post-COVID environment. CMOs report that this is compounded by the difficulty of aligning the business around changing consumer needs quickly enough and falling consumer spend. The study raises concerns that half (49%) of CMOs concede they are basing their response to the coronavirus crisis on strategies that were pursued during previous recessions. Globally, just one in ten CMOs are looking at entirely new strategies. In Asia Pacific, nearly half (46%) in India are using ‘completely’ similar strategies to those pursued in previous recessions, compared to 17% global average. On the other hand, only 6% in China are doing so. It also found that despite the general advice that brands should not ‘go dark’ during times of recession, nearly two-thirds (62%) of CMOs recount that their marketing budgets are forecast to decline or remain flat over the coming 12 months. In Asia Pacific, Australia is the second highest market to predict marketing budget to decline (36%) and Japan is the third highest market anticipating that budget will stay flat (29% vs global average 22%). On the contrary, China is the second highest (56%) to predict budget increases in the coming year. Overall, the study recognises that a new style of marketing leadership is emerging. The big economic news today comes from the US, with the jobs report out at 1.30 p.m. GMT. We'll get non-farm payrolls, earnings growth, and the unemployment rate, which analysts expect to stay at 5.9%.
A bundle of senior central bankers are also talking at a conference at the Bank of France, so expect lines from Fed chair Janet Yellen, Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan, Bank of England governor Mark Carney, and Bundesbank chief Jens Weidmann.

The U.S. Census will release its advance <a href="http://www.census.gov/manufacturing/m3/" target="_blank">report on new orders</a> for for durable goods in July. Economists estimate orders surged 7.1% last month due an unusual number of plane orders. 
The S&amp;P/Case-Shiller home price index is expected to show that home prices in 20 major cities went nowhere month-over-month in June and prices were 8.24% higher year-over-year. 
Consumer confidence data is expected to show a drop in August to 88.5 from 90.9 in July. 
<a href="https://www.richmondfed.org/research/regional_economy/surveys_of_business_conditions/manufacturing/release_schedule/index.cfm" target="_blank">Richmond's Fed manufacturing index</a> will be released at 10:00 a.m. ET. Economists estimate this regional activity index fell to 6 in August from 7 in July.

<ul><li>While the brand currently has 30 stores in Tier I cities, it plans to open 100 stores in top 50 cities this year.</li><li>The brand is also expanding its team, from the current 400, it aims to expand its team to 1000 within the next 3 years.</li><li>Data from the Counterpoint Research also revealed that OnePlus was one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in India in 2019, with around 29% growth in market share.</li><li>Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India tells us about all that has worked in the brand’s favor in the last few years and how it wants to grow its offline presence substantially in 2020 to find new customers.</li></ul>If a recently launched report by Counterpoint Research is to be believed, India has dethroned the United States to become the second largest smartphone market in the world. While China continues to be the global leader, India had an estimated 158 million devices shipped to the country in 2019. And most of this growth is being driven by Chinese smartphone makers including Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo and Oppo, amongst others. To understand the opportunity that India presents to smartphone makers now, considering the sheer size of the market and an increase in the number of people wanting to own more premium phones, we recently caught up with Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India. Agarwal spoke to us about what has worked in the brand’s favor in the last few years, how it has been able to woo audiences in an already cluttered market and how it wants to grow its offline presence substantially in the next few quarters to find new customers. OnePlus’ India story so far When OnePlus launched in India around five years back, it did not use any high-decibel campaign. Instead, it relied completely on word-of-mouth. Five years since, the strategy has paid off well for the brand, which has now started coming up with campaigns, all of which are made in-house. Globally, Robert Downey Jr. is the face of the brand. In terms of its market share, the brand has managed to capture the lion’s share in the premium segment. Data from the Counterpoint Research revealed that OnePlus was one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in India in 2019, with around 29% growth in market share. “When we launched in India, we had thought it will take us time to establish ourselves here. We had thought it will take us time to build an interest in the brand but eventually we will have an opportunity as we had entered early. However the success we have received and the response we’ve got from users has been phenomenal and in less than five years we’ve already emerged as the biggest brand in the premium segment. We have also helped the industry grow at a faster pace,” says Agarwal who also shares that globally almost one-third of the brand’s business comes from India, making it the biggest market for the brand. When asked what are the factors that led an otherwise unknown brand to come to India and capture the market the way it did, Agarwal says it is the brand’s focus on customer centricity that helped it crack the code. The brand, shares Agarwal, has always prioritized customer preferences and expectations. “Our focus on the Indian market from the very beginning has helped us grow here. Our business strategy is to focus on releasing only one product every year. We also refrained from diversifying our brand into multiple channels in the beginning. Being present only on online channels helped us grow very efficiently. Our continued focus on engaging with the community and our product obsession is what has led us here today,” he shares. Why OnePlus is focusing on offline expansion For the first three years, the brand was only present online. It was also getting by with minimal marketing. The brand created a loyal following for itself through a referral program and a lot of excitement around the brand was built primarily through word-of-mouth. In the last few years, the brand has also invested on Digital. However, considering the limitation of digital channels, the brand is now looking at expanding its presence offline, to reach out to a newer set of consumers. The brand already has opened 30 stores in top cities. “This year we’re looking our presence to about 100 stores in top 50 cities. We want our offline stores to be destinations where consumers discover our products and know more about the brand. This will also help us in creating awareness and build the consumer’s confidence and trust in us which will eventually translate into loyalty and commitment for the brand,” he explains. He also shares that the brand will cover all Tier I cities and look at some Tier II cities. Why OnePlus continues to shy away from roping in an ad agency So far, most of OnePlus’ campaigns have been executed in-house. Despite working with media agencies, the brand interestingly has never had an ad agency on retainer. When asked why, Agarwal says, “We have a team which is really creative and very passionate about the brand. We usually take our team’s feedback and more often than not, our team’s ideas are quite effective and appealing because they understand the brand better than most of the agencies and partners. We try to explore all opportunities and pick the best ideas.” He also adds that the brand is open to working with an agency in the future but it will also continue to explore ideas from the in-house team. Evolution of OnePlus’ marketing strategy The core of the brand’s marketing strategy is still word-of-mouth, says Agarwal. Initially, the phones could be bought through invites and later the brand moved to digital channels. In recent times, the brand has also started exploring traditional mediums and celebrity associations with an aim of reaching out to a larger audience. “Our core focus remains on our existing community and that is where a majority of our media investments are going. Recently, we organized the OnePlus music festival to give something back to our OnePlus community. While it was a huge success, we are still figuring out if we want to make this an annual event,” he adds. He further states that India is one of the most important markets for the company from a global perspective. “India is our most important market and comes first in terms of our brand strategy. We are probably one of the only brands that always launches its products simultaneously in India. We also prioritize India over other regions, even in terms of supply,” he says. From an investment perspective, OnePlus has the biggest team in India outside of its headquarters. With a current strength of 400 members, the brand plans to scale up to a 1000 member team in the next three years. Agarwal shares that the brand will continue to focus on community-focused initiatives and its recently launched Red Cable Club is a step in that direction.

Mortgage lending figures from the Bank of England are out at 5:30 a.m. ET, which should give some indication of the health of the housing market in September. Analysts are expecting a slight dip.
From the US later, the major scheduled news is the Federal Reserve's announcement on rates and QE at 2 p.m. ET. Most importantly, despite the volatility of recent weeks, they are expected to taper the last of the country's quantitative easing purchases and end QE3.

<ul><li>While numbers suggest that listening hours for podcasts fell 14% after the <keyword id="91743" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="lockdown">lockdown</keyword> since people were no longer commuting, things are starting to look up slowly.</li><li><keyword id="139079" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Consumer-behaviour">Consumer behaviour</keyword> is evolving and people are now listening to podcasts while say, preparing a meal.</li><li><keyword id="9730546" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pierre-Fitter">Pierre Fitter</keyword> – Senior Director, Canvas, <keyword id="8878758" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Genesis-BCW">Genesis BCW</keyword> lists a few things down that will help if you are thinking of investing both time and money on a podcast series.</li></ul>I’ve got bad news if you want to start a podcast. (I know, the headline promised ‘springtime’, but I do want to be honest). Like nearly all other human endeavours, COVID-19 gave podcasts a hard time too. The Stitcher, a popular podcasting app, <a href="https://medium.com/stitcher-blog/the-stitcher-podcasting-report-41ee54c8b84c">estimated</a> that listening hours fell 14% in the 8 weeks between 1 March to 27 April, compared to the prior 8-week period. Primarily, this is because the lockdown means fewer people are commuting to work – primetime for <keyword id="9730547" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="podcast-listening">podcast listening</keyword>. Dejected? Don’t be. I do have good news as well. Like all other endeavours, humans have also adapted their podcast listening habits to the lockdown. Instead of the daily commute, The Stitcher says listeners are now tuning in as they prepare a meal and enjoy a slightly extended lunch break. In fact, by the final week of April, Podtrac <a href="https://analytics.podtrac.com/blog/2020/4/27/weekly-podcast-data-amid-the-coronavirus-crisis-update-through-april-26-2020">reported</a> a modest 4% growth in downloads. The best news of all is there’s never been a better time for business podcasts. Anxious business owners and employees are searching for literal voices of authority to guide them through the pandemic, contributing to a <a href="https://www.niemanlab.org/2020/03/it-appears-people-staying-at-home-all-the-time-is-bad-news-for-podcasting/">10 per cent rise</a> in downloads for business podcasts. Podcasts tend to have extremely loyal audiences – <a href="https://www.edisonresearch.com/infinite-dial-2018-podcast-listening/">80 per cent of listeners</a> hear all or most of each episode, and they consume <a href="http://www.edisonresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/The-Infinite-Dial-2020-U.S.-Edison-Research.pdf">six episodes a week</a>. They also tend to be quicker, cheaper and easier to produce than video. All this is to say that if you don’t yet have podcasts as part of your <keyword id="9730548" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="content-marketing-mix">content marketing mix</keyword>, now may be a good time to start. Like all content marketing campaigns, there are a few things you must think about before investing time and money in a podcast series. Start with a goal. What do you want your podcast to help you achieve? Do you want to be seen as a thought leader? Do you want to attract new customers? Do you want to build it as a channel for interacting with stakeholders? The answers to these questions will not only determine your content and your tone of voice, they’ll also determine how and where you amplify your podcast to make sure it reaches your intended audiences. Next up, have a clear message. You will be part of a global conversation. What will you contribute to it? Do you have powerful lessons on doing business amidst the lockdown? Focusing the first few episodes on how your industry is navigating the pandemic can be invaluable content. And with executives searching for advice, it might be a sound SEO tactic to attract your initial audience. In fact, keep the audience central to your messaging. What are they keen to learn about? What will be interesting for them? As with any marketing campaign, if your audience doesn’t care for your content, you’re wasting your time. Next, think of your story arc. How will each episode flow into the next one and build towards a conclusion?Start small. A 6–10 episode mini-series, with 10- to 15-minute episodes is a good target. Use the first episode to set your premise. Use the rest of the episodes to explore each aspect of your story arc in detail. A good story arc is vital. Without it, you won’t have a beginning, middle or end. And without those, your scripting will be weak and uninteresting. Then, consider the actual structure of each episode. Will you broadcast solo? Will you chat with guests; perhaps your customers, or business heads? Maybe talk to employees; after all, they’re on the frontlines figuring out innovative ways to keep operations running. You could also invite listeners to share their take on things as WhatsApp voice notes. This is a good way to connect with your audience and bring them into the conversation. We’re nearing the end now. Next, you need to consider how you will produce each episode. Good audio quality is a non-negotiable. A good voice recorder is inexpensive. Avoid rooms that are noisy, and turn off electrical appliances – they tend to give off an audible hum that gets picked up on sensitive microphones. Learning to edit podcasts isn’t hard, but there are plenty of producers who will help you for a fee. Finally, think about how you will host and distribute podcast. Anchor.fm is an excellent, polished service, which allows you to record, edit, host and distribute your content. After its acquisition by Spotify, it also offers excellent audience analytics. Buzzsprout, Podbean and Transistor are equally worthy podcast hosts to explore. Your choice ultimately depends on your requirements and budget. Many will host your podcast for free and charge a basic fee (a few hundred rupees a month) for additional services. Once an episode is up, you need to market it. Use everything at your disposal - social media, the company intranet, newsletters, emails and even WhatsApp. UTM codes will help you track click-throughs, allowing you to optimise your marketing for subsequent episodes. Like all things digital, I will leave you with one thought:Experiment, fail, learn, improve, succeed. As true for social media posts of the early 2000's, it’s just as true for podcasts today. France's CAC 40 is up 0.07%
Germany's DAX is up 0.48%
Spain's IBEX is down 0.11%
Italy's FTSE MIB is down 0.39%
The UK's FTSE 100 is down 0.17%
It's been a good night for major Asian markets. The Nikkei closed up 2.64% and the Hang Seng is currently 1.09% above yesterday's close.
 S&amp;P and Dow futures are down a notch, 0.18% and 0.15% lower respectively.
Early Wednesday, one of the European Central Bank's policymakers was <a href="http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/10/22/uk-ecb-corporatebonds-coene-idUKKCN0IB0KH20141022">out throwing cold water on rum ours that the ECB would buy corporate bonds</a>. Luc Coene said that the central bank doesn't have a plan to buy a wider range of bonds, and that they haven't discussed it seriously. 
At 4.30 a.m ET, the Bank of England's minutes for the latest meeting will be released, giving an indication of any more disagreement on the monetary policy committee. 
From the US, at 8.30 a.m. ET, September's CPI figures are out the only big data release today.

European Markets Are Mixed After An Asian Rally

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>European markets are bouncing back early Thursday morning, despite <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-german-exports-plunge-by-largest-amount-in-five-and-a-half-years-2014-10">bad export data out of Germany</a>. Exports fell 5.8% in August, the biggest drop since 2009. 
Here's the scorecard:
France's CAC 40 is up 0.84%
Spain's IBEX is up 0.67%
Italy's FTSE MIB is up 0.49%%
Britain's FTSE 100 is up 0.64%
Germany's DAX is up 1.21%, leading the way again.
Asian markets closed mixed. The Hang Seng bounced back overnight, closing up 1.17%, while the Nikkei closed down at 0.75%. 
US futures are mostly flat. S&amp;P futures are up 0.01% and Dow futures are down 0.02%. 
From Europe, the Bank of England's latest decision on monetary policy is out at 7:00 a.m. ET and European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi is making a speech at 12.00 p.m. ET. Analysts will be looking for any hint of further easing, as the outlook for the Eurozone seems to get grimmer by the day.
In the US, jobless claims come out 8.30 a.m. ET. Economists estimate weekly claims climbed to 294,000 from 287,000 a week ago.
We'll also get US factory orders. Economists estimate orders fell by 9.5% in August.

European Markets Are Up, Asian Markets Closed Mixed, US Futures Are Flat

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>European stocks are mixed early Thursday, ahead of the<a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/what-to-expect-from-ecb-qe-programme-2015-1"> European Central Bank's momentous announcement, with a major new stimulus effort looking very likely</a>.
France's CAC 40: -0.37%
Germany's DAX: -0.29%
<keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword>'s FTSE 100: +0.07%
Spain's IBEX: +0.61%
Italy's FTSE MIB: +0.63%
Asian markets closed up too. Japan's Nikkei ended 0.28% higher, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.70%. China's Shanghai Compsite ended up 0.59%. Amazingly, Shanghai stocks have now claimed back almost all of Monday's crash, which was the worst day for the index since 2008.
US futures are climbing too. The S&amp;P 500 is currently 6.5 points higher and the Dow is up 53 points.
All eyes are on the ECB today: Any major positive or negative surprises from Mario Draghi are likely to provoke significant market reactions. At 12:45 p.m GMT (7:45 a.m ET) the ECB makes its announcement, and there's a press conference 45 minutes later.

European Markets Are Mixed Ahead Of The Massive ECB Announcement

<a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20130328-717232.html">Trading volume is low </a>because of the Good Friday holiday, and markets in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and India are closed.
Chinese stocks are up, after falling to a three-month low on Thursday. Stocks were impacted by the banking regulator's regulations on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinese-regulations-on-wmps-2013-3">China's wealth management products</a> that are said to total about $2.1 trillion.

U.S. stock markets will also be shut for the Good Friday holiday.
