This type of offering allows the company to sell stock directly into the market at its discretion and add the proceeds to its balance sheet.With MicroStrategy stock trading near its highest level since the dot-com bubble peak of March 2000, it's a good time for the company to sell more stock, especially considering the struggles facing its underlying software business. MicroStrategy lost about $433 million on revenues of $116 million in the third-quarter. The company's revenue was down 10% year-over-year in the quarter, notching its fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue declines.Whether it's a smart move for MicroStrategy to bet its entire market value on bitcoin rather than invest in its underlying business will hinge on the price of bitcoin.So far, the bitcoin play has worked out. Bitcoin traded above $70,000 on Thursday, just below its all-time high of nearly $74,000.MicroStrategy has been on a bitcoin buying spree since 2020, accumulating about 252,000 bitcoins at an average cost basis of $39,266 per bitcoin.As of September 30, MicroStrategy's bitcoin holdings were worth $16 billion, about one-third of the company's overall market value.

Indian smartphone shipments up 3% in Q3 – Vivo leads the market but Samsung wins the value game

He also predicts that Corebridge could buy back as much as 20% of its outstanding stock each year, a practice that generally engineers gains by increasing the per-unit value of each remaining share."It's a name not many people know about," Nygren said of the firm. "They don't have to depend on other investors to recognize the value. They just keep reducing the flow."He continued: "I think it just creates a tremendous opportunity for companies that are good businesses, generating a lot of cash flow, and it gives them the opportunity to increase per share value by reinvesting in themselves."

Here's what they're want to see. <h2 id="1009b70b-3c95-4408-9e2d-ef2b16069f01">Regulatory overhaul</h2>One of the root themes of Trump's crypto platform is a promise to sweep aside regulatory restrictions that have hung over the industry in recent years.Criticism has been loud over the Biden administration's handling of the sector, characterized by heated confrontations between the Securities and Exchange Commission and major crypto players."Those guys, I mean, they just put so much uncertainty in this entire industry. It was unbelievable. There was no clear guidance, no regulations," said Tim Kravchunovsky, CEO of Chirp, a decentralized telecommunications company.Speaking with Business Insider, he added that regulatory conflict has pushed crypto business out of the US, costing Washington its competitive edge. Matt Mena, crypto research strategist at 21Shares, agreed with that sentiment. "By creating a more welcoming regulatory environment, this approach could draw back projects and founders who have left the country due to regulatory uncertainty, generating thousands of new jobs and millions in tax revenue, bolstering the economy while advancing the crypto sector," he told BI over email.To this end, the industry anticipates that Trump will replace regulatory heads with more crypto-friendly people. The president-elect is already surrounded by such figures, Mena said, such as Elon Musk, JD Vance, Robert F. Kennedy, and Howard Lutnick.Meanwhile, to make Trump's plan of turning the US into a "crypto hub" possible,Kravchunovsky suggested that Washington could provide incentives such as federal grants and tax cuts.<h2 id="b1a4e172-d8a3-4ea3-b022-1a29b3897ab5">Crypto bills</h2>On the legislative front, crypto players will also be watching for the repeal of SAB 121 and the passage of several key bills,SAB 121, an SEC policy document <a target="_blank" href="https://content.next.westlaw.com/practical-law/document/Idfd9dfac273211ef8921fbef1a541940/President-Biden-Vetoes-Legislation-Rescinding-SEC-Staff-Accounting-Bulletin-121-SAB-121-on-Crypto-Custody?viewType=FullText&amp;transitionType=Default&amp;contextData=(sc.Default)">kept in place by the Biden administration</a>, discourages US lenders from acting as crypto custiodians, given that it requires them to hold an equivalent amount of cash against their crypto holdings. It's removal would free institutional investors to further adopt digital assets.Mena also cited anticipation around FIT21, an act aiming to clarify the regulatory roles around digital assets. Consumer protections would also strengthen under this bill, he said.Meanwhile, Trump's administration could accelerate progress on three meaningful pieces of stablecoin legislation, which aim to set up guardrails around future stablecoin issuance. These dollar-pegged crypto assets are increasingly used for purposes similar to traditional finance, Standard Chartered said in a note on Friday.<h2 id="eae31105-86db-4e91-9d15-cfc75e92738f">A bitcoin reserve?</h2>Since Trump's victory, speculation has jumped that a strategic bitcoin reserve could be in on the way. Though the President-elect has not specifically voiced such a plan, the idea that his administration would buy bitcoin as a reserve asset has created enthusiasm among crypto bulls."We're already seeing that that [crypto's] gaining trust, and it's gaining trust within institutions and countries. More and more countries are adopting it. So I don't think it's a matter of years. I think it's a matter of months," Kravchunovsky said.Mena sees the price of bitcoin soaring to $1 million "almost overnight," if a strategic reserve were to be established. The scenario would prompt other nations to build up their own reserves, pushing bitcoin's total market cap 13 times higher. Meanwhile, Standard Chartered head of FX research Geoff Kendrick considers a bitcoin reserve fund as a high-impact development with a low probability of happening for now. Investors should instead pay attention to Trump's separate promise to cease all sales of government bitcoin. If this happens, that could mean a sizeable upswing in the price of the token, he wrote.<h2 id="6a25764b-b3fc-4a7c-a689-ece320390cd4">Crypto's time to shine</h2>In whatever way the industry changes under Trump, one thing feels certain: the election has cemented the crypto markets place in the mainstream."Crypto is now essentially legal in the U.S., marking a major turning point for the industry," Mena wrote.According to Kendrick, crypto-friendly adjustments have the potential to drive the total market value of the cryptocurrency market to $10 trillion by the end of 2026, a major jump from the current $2.5 trillion level.He reiterated his expectation that bitcoin will hit $200,000 by the next year's end.

Major indexes edged up in early-morning trading, while bond yields slumped.Consumer prices grew 0.2% in the month of October and 2.6% on a year-over-year basis. The increase was <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-september-cpi-consumer-price-index-federal-reserve-interest-rates-2024-10">slightly hotter</a> than last month's 2.4% price growth, but in line with expectations, which kept investors hopeful that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at its December meeting. Expectations for another 25 basis point rate cut in December solidified. Markets are pricing in a 82% chance the Fed will trim its target rate by another quarter-point, up from a 59% yesterday, according to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">CME FedWatch tool</a>."Given nervousness around the more inflationary aspects of Trump's policy proposals, markets appeared primed for an upside inflation surprise today," Seema Shah, the chief global strategist at Principal Asset Management, said in a note. "A December cut is still in the cards," she added.Still, the rise in the overall inflation rate makes the outlook for future Fed cuts uncertain, according to Skyler Weinand, the chief investment officer of Regan Capital."With Wednesday's CPI in line with expectations, but still stubbornly above the Fed's 2% goal, the Fed may have only one rate cut left in December before taking a pause from their easing path," Weinand said in a note.He continued: "The incredible move in the stock market postelection has effectively eased financial conditions for stock investors. That makes the Fed's focus pinned on the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://businessinsider.com/next-fed-rate-cut-forecast-jumbo-unemployment-labor-market-citi-2024-11">labor market</a>, which has started showing signs of deterioration, Correa says.Meanwhile, global growth appears to be on the downward slide. China's stimulus hasn't been enough to boost its <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-economy-housing-property-stimulus-economic-growth-goldman-sachs-2024-10">property sector</a>, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-is-experiencing-factory-boom-but-finding-workers-is-difficult-2023-7">manufacturing employment</a> remains tepid with the ISM manufacturing index under 50, while in 2017 it neared 60 and was already beginning to accelerate well before Trump's win."Those betting on a 2017 scenario are doing so based on data from eight years ago," Correa said.Some investors may argue that Trump's policies could reverse those macro trends, with pro-growth and inflationary policies like he implemented in his first term, and that those might be especially possible to enact with a Republican-controlled Congress.But that is likely an overestimate, Correa says. In his mind, it isn't clear that Trump's tax cuts were actually at the heart of economic growth in 2017. He thinks that generating additional growth through government spending will be harder this time around. With such large deficits already, it's unlikely there will be such a big increase from current levels, and projections for fiscal force next year are already negative, he said.In short, traders are looking at Trump through the lens of his past term, rather than the odds stacked against him now."Investors are playing the man and not the macro. Even worse, they are playing not the man today but the man from eight years ago. As a result, several assets are overextended in our view," Correa said, pointing to small caps, the dollar and risk assets.Correa recommends positioning defensively instead, out of stocks and into bonds."We remain underweight equities and are defensively positioned. Bonds are offering outstanding value. Even in the event of a soft landing, 10-year Treasurys would return 12% from current levels over the next year," he said.
