And in a new ad, the GOP candidate — who won his May primary after a late endorsement from former President Donald Trump — even features an image from the same photoshoot <a href="https://twitter.com/embajadarusaes/status/1552886838926479360">used by the Russian government</a>.Posted on Monday, <a href="https://archive.ph/dKOOp">the ad</a> features two blonde girls holding hands. "For their future," it reads, "there is hope." Visitors to the Mastriano campaign's Facebook page will see it featured as the header.But the girls are not Pennsylvanians and they are not in Pennsylvania.Insider was able to track the image back to Pexels, a company based in Germany that offers a repository of free stock photos and videos. It was posted by a videographer who lists their location as Minsk, the capital of Belarus.It is not the first time that the campaign appears to have used stock footage from the site.In late September, Mastriano — who has spread conspiracy theories <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/audit-vote-campaign-pennsylvania-claims-election-hacked-china-2021-6">about the 2020 election</a> and false claims <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doug-mastriano-suggests-covid-19-vaccines-are-not-true-vaccines-2021-10">about vaccines</a> — posted a four-minute video on YouTube that features him speaking over stock footage from Russia, Poland, and Belarus that a liberal super PAC also traced back to Pexels, <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/politics/clout/jim-gardner-mehmet-oz-campaign-commercial-doug-mastriano-ron-desantis-20221007.html">The Philadelphia Inquirer reported</a>.Similarly, a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gop-commitment-america-features-russian-stock-footage-fake-lincoln-quote-2022-9">recent video</a> released by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, stressing the GOP's "Commitment to America," also relied on stock footage from Russia and Ukraine.Democrats have also used questionable stock footage in their ads. In North Carolina, for example, a Democratic candidate in 2016 ran an ad featuring testimonials from ostensible voters who were in fact stock-photo models; their Republican opponent likewise ran an ad about their commitment to disadvantaged children that featured kids in Africa, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/08/25/senate-campaign-ad-targeting-african-americans-provides-another-reminder-of-the-perils-of-stock-images/">per The Washington Post</a>.The allure of stock footage — especially, of course, the free variety — is money. The Shapiro campaign is <a href="https://whyy.org/articles/pa-midterm-elections-campaign-finance-record-broken-in-governor-race/">flush with it</a>, having $11 million in the bank after already spending $44 million on ads. Mastriano, by contrast, has relatively little of it: he has spent less than $3 million and has just under $2.6 million left.In recent weeks, Mastriano and his staffer, Jenna Ellis, a former lawyer for the Trump campaign, have complained of a <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/politics/clout/jenna-ellis-doug-mastriano-doug-ducey-republican-governors-association-20220923.html">lack of financial support</a> from national Republicans, namely the Republican Governors Association.Those complaints have come as Mastriano has been mired in controversy over his associations, with the candidate recently campaigning with Jack Posobiec, a far-right conspiracy theorist who previously claimed that leading Democrats were part of a pedophile ring that operated inside a pizza parlor in Washington, DC.Mastriano has also praised Andrew Torba, an anti-Semite and self-styled Christian nationalist, paying $5,000 to Torba's social media company, Gab, in "consulting" fees. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Daniel Gluskoter/AP</div></div></div><ul><li>The Oakland Raiders have made several questionable moves since hiring Jon Gruden to be their head coach.</li><li>Over the weekend, the Raiders traded their best player in Khalil Mack.</li><li>Trading Mack, along with several other moves, had the NFL world questioning their decision-making and valuing of draft picks.</li><li>Gruden is an influential voice on the team, and some in the NFL wonder if it needs to be balanced by others.</li></ul> Just days before the start of the 2018 NFL season, things are looking rockier than ever for Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders.In the months since luring Gruden out of the booth with a 10-year, $100 million contract, the Raiders have made a series of puzzling moves that have left some wondering if Gruden's been out of the league too long to have such an influential voice in an organization.<h2>The deal that could define Gruden's tenure</h2>The most significant move, of course, was the Raiders' decision to <a href="https://t.co/QOWoT2Wvra">trade star defensive end Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears </a>on Saturday. Mack had been holding out for a record-setting contract, and evidence mounted over training camp that the two sides were not close on a deal.The Raiders' return was high - two first-round draft picks - but the NFL world has nonetheless questioned the deal.First, Mack is one of the three best pass-rushers in the league, a former Defensive Player of the Year entering his prime. To give up on arguably the team's best player over money, particularly after lavishing quarterback Derek Carr with a five-year, $125 million contract, is a questionable method of team-building.But there is also some question of the deal itself. The Raiders also sent a future second-round pick to the Bears to discount the two first-rounders. That makes the Bears unequivocally the winners of the trade - they got an elite talent and a future pick to ease the pain of giving up two firsts.On Sunday, Gruden addressed the media about the trade and made several comments that only added to the confusion.Gruden at once said that the negotiations with Mack were a "daily" topic within the Raiders, that he wasn't involved in the day-to-day talks with Mack, and that the team made a decision to deal Mack to the Bears as one.Gruden also suggested that it would be economically challenging to pay Mack top dollar while paying Carr at top dollar. He said the team has future free agents to take care of as well.<a href="https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/09/03/khalil-mack-trade-super-bowl-prediction-peter-king/">As NBC's Peter King wrote</a>, with the salary cap rising $10 million nearly every season, the two combined deals of Carr and Mack would have made up about 21% of the Raiders' salary cap - hardly a back-breaking number, especially if both are franchise players.The Ringer's Robert Mays said on <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-ringer-nfl-show/id1109282822?mt=2">"The Ringer NFL Show" podcast</a> that there were mumblings that Mack was not impressed with Gruden, to say the least."What I've heard from people who have been around the Raiders in the past that apparently when they came to Mack with an extension, he was so turned off by Gruden. That it really did put a painfully and irreparably sour taste in the mouth of both those parties when they were talking," Mays said, adding: "Apparently it started off on such a bad note, that it was going to be really hard to come back."Furthermore, there's the question of how the locker room will respond. And the locker room is thinking, 'If Khalil Mack, probably our best player, isn't worth 10 percent of the cap through his prime, then who are they going to pay around here other than the quarterback?'"<h2>Other moves lost in the Mack trade</h2>The Raiders made several other head-scratching moves this weekend that were overshadowed by the Mack deal.On Saturday, the Raiders cut wide receiver Martavis Bryant from the team. The Raiders traded a third-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Bryant in the offseason, hoping to add a needed vertical threat to the offense.There have been rumors of a pending drug suspension for Bryant, his third in four years. Perhaps the Raiders knew he would not be playing for them for a long time, so they cut ties now. Regardless, it's a questionable use of resources to trade for a player then cut him before playing a snap.The Raiders also gave a sixth-round draft pick to the Buffalo Bills for backup quarterback A.J. McCarron. Gruden explained on Sunday that the Raiders' staff had some familiarity with McCarron (as did he from his "QB Camp" series) and they wanted to bring him in to back up Carr.It's a low-cost move, but still, one that raised some eyebrows. First, backup quarterback E.J. Manuel had played well in preseason and was cut to make room for McCarron. Second, McCarron just lost a quarterback battle on the Bills to rookie Josh Allen and second-year quarterback Nathan Peterman. Now, because of the late timing, if Carr gets injured, the Raiders' backup will be a quarterback who did not have a full training camp in Gruden's notoriously demanding system.These moves only compounded an offseason that saw the Raiders get older at several skill positions. They signed wide receiver Jordy Nelson, 33, and running back Doug Martin, 29, after they were cut by the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively.They also didn't do much to address a defense that ranked 29th in defensive DVOA, and that was with Mack.Gruden, of course, is not the sole decision-maker (he's not even the GM), but many in the football world believe his influence is still powerful.<a href="https://theathletic.com/502678/2018/09/03/kawakami-jon-gruden-needs-an-executive-like-paraag-marathe-and-nine-other-post-khalil-mack-thoughts/">The Athletic's Tim Kawakami argued</a> that Gruden needs another evaluator by his side to control his impulses.Kawakami also noted that things don't seem to be shaping up well for GM Reggie Mackenzie, noting that many of his recent draft picks are already gone and that the roster is thin.If the Raiders do look for a new GM, it suggests Gruden will continue to have an influential voice in the organization (natural, given the investment in him). But the night was also a celebration of the power of theater to bring joy. And there much joy for the cast and creators of the wildly popular "Hamilton," which won a whopping 11 Tonys.A look at some of the night's top moments, both onstage and off, and a list of all the winners:A SEARING SONNET"Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, the eloquent hero of this Broadway season, is known for giving acceptance speeches in freestyling rap. But on this night, he told the crowd, he opted to write a sonnet instead. His own tears over the Orlando tragedy were infectious, as he spoke of "when senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing is promised, not one day." But, he added: "Hope and love last longer, and love is love is love is love."<div></div>THE LOOK OF DIVERSITYFor all the talk about diversity and inclusiveness this season (absent at the Oscars, present at the Tonys), nothing could beat one powerful image: All four of the musical acting winners were black actors. "Think of tonight as the Oscars, but with diversity," host James Corden had said at the beginning of the show. "It's so diverse that Donald Trump has threatened to build a wall around this theater."CORDEN'S BROADWAY CREDSpeaking of Corden, after his own somber opening referring to Orlando - a piece he pre-recorded to be sure to get it right - the late-night TV host delighted the crowd with an ode to what seemed like dozens of past Broadway shows, from "Les Miserables" to "Phantom of the Opera" to "Sweeney Todd" to "Grease." And there's no easier way to win over a theater-loving audience than to sing a few bars from "Rose's Turn" in "Gypsy."WHAT YOU DIDN'T SEEDuring commercial breaks, Corden worked the crowd a bit, and this included enlisting prominent audience members for impromptu singalongs. He got Jeff Daniels to sing from "The Sound of Music," and he got Jake Gyllenhaal and Sean Hayes to sing from "Aladdin." When he saw that Gyllenhaal was chewing gum, he simply took it and put it in his own mouth.OUTSIDE ANTICSSpeaking of singalongs, Corden adopted the "Hamilton" practice of performing for a streetside crowd, actual putting on brief shows outside the Beacon Theater. This made for some odd combinations, like Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Webber joining Steve Martin and Edie Brickell in singing "Tomorrow" from "Annie" - or the cast of "Fiddler on the Roof" singing "There's No Business Like Show Business" from "Annie Get Your Gun."A BLAST FROM THE PAST FOR GROBANSpeaking of "Fiddler," Corden had a surprise for presenter Josh Groban: He unearthed, and played, a clip of the singer performing Tevye as a high school student. Groban seemed to have a good sense of humor about it.GIVING THANKSMany people thank their parents or their kids in their speeches, but Renee Elise Goldsberry, who plays Angelica Schuyler in "Hamilton," had an especially poignant moment speaking about her years-long struggle to become a mother. "If you know anything about me you know I've spent the last 10 years just trying to have children," she said. "God gave me Benjamin, he gave me Brielle - and he still gave me this," she said, gesturing to her Tony.YOU NEVER KNOWIvo Van Hove, who won for best direction of a play ("Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge,") told the story of how when he first came to New York at age 20, he met a woman on a park bench, and told her he was an aspiring theater director. She asked for his autograph - because, she said, "you never know." So, the director surmised in his Tony speech: "She's watching now and thinking, 'See? I was right.'"PARTYING LIKE THERE'S NO (PERFORMANCE) TOMORROWIf you were the "Hamilton" cast, wouldn't YOU be partying? The "Hamilton" bunch had a day off on Monday, and it's a good thing: their after-party Sunday night was way cooler than the official post-Tony gala. The show took over the Tavern on the Green restaurant in Central Park, and danced to a DJ until the early hours. Rapper Common, who introduced "Hamilton" at the ceremony, was among the guests. Besides eating, drinking and dancing, one could pose against a green screen and be inserted into a famous "Hamilton" photograph.BARBRA DRESSES JUST RIGHTIntroducing Streisand, Corden warned that medical personnel were standing by, just in case her return was too exciting for some. She was appearing on the Tony stage for the first time since 1970 to present the award for Best Musical - to "Hamilton," of course. "You're making me verklempt!" she called out when the crowd gave her an ovation. Dressed in a ruffled, high-collared white blouse and black vest, she quipped when she opened the envelope: "Thank God I picked the right outfit."A LITTLE SELF-ESTEEM CAN'T HURTSheldon Harnick, the 92-year-old lyricist, wasn't above a little healthy self-promotion when he received his Lifetime Achievement Award.Responding to the accolades that had just been showered upon him, he replied: "Thank you.
