Nothing, a London-based consumer technology company, on Thursday announced it has appointed former <keyword id="10591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> executive <keyword id="68726" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="manu-Sharma">Manu Sharma</keyword>, as Vice President and General Manager of <keyword id="10825023" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nothing-India">Nothing India</keyword>. Sharma will drive the growth, business development and operations for Nothing in the country, a new venture of OnePlus Co-founder <keyword id="2497827" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Carl-Pei">Carl Pei</keyword>, in India. "Sharma is an experienced business leader with a deep knowledge and understanding of the consumer technology industry in India. With his proven track record and experience, he will play a pivotal role for our growth in India," said Pei, CEO and Co-Founder of Nothing. Sharma has earlier worked with <keyword id="10597" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-mobile">Samsung Mobile</keyword> and the Hewlett-Packard (now bifurcated) in India. He will oversee the regional product strategy, marketing and sales operations for the brand, as well as setting up the India office. "Carl's vision is inspiring and I am confident that Nothing will have a meaningful impact on the consumer technology market in India and around the world," said Sharma. The company is set to foray into next-gen consumer devices soon. It has also opened up for its community to invest in the company through a community equity funding round. Nothing will allow its community to invest a total of $1.5 million at the same valuation as their Series A funding with GV (formerly <keyword id="234332" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-Ventures">Google Ventures</keyword>). The London-based startup has so far raised over $22 million. In December, the company raised $7 million in seed financing December that included tech leaders and investors such as Tony Fadell, Casey Neistat, Kevin Lin, <keyword id="1949927" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Steve-Huffman">Steve Huffman</keyword> and Josh Buckley. Kunal Shah, Founder, <keyword id="1763236" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CRED">CRED</keyword>, also invested in Nothing, although the amount has not been disclosed yet. Carl Pei's Nothing ropes in former Samsung executive Manu Sharma to lead its India operations

<keyword id="107877" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-India">Samsung India</keyword> is making up for the damage caused by its Galaxy Note7 and is pitching S7 and S7 Edge to the customers during the festive season. 
 
Samsung is confident of registering expected sales during the festive season and hopes of gaining market share and even posting record sales. 
 
Manu Sharma, vice president (mobile business), Samsung India Electronics, told ET, “We have converted the Note 7 prebooked customers in India to S7 and S7 Edge. We are humbled by the loyalty of the consumers towards the brand. There is now a strong sales momentum on S7 and S7 Edge. By virtue of being a full range player with 25 models across segments, we are confident to grow our share and sales this quarter.” 
As per various reports, the sales of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge shot up from 20% to 40% over the last 10 days. 
 
Meanwhile, Samsung will launch 4G handsets only and will leave the 3G smartphone space. 
 
"We already have the largest 4G handset portfolio. Around 80% of the smartphone market is now 4G handsets and hence we will only launch such handsets,” Manu told ET.

Samsung is banking on S7, S7 Edge to drive sales in India during festive season

Shah Rukh Khan-starred 'Zero' was initially offered to Salman Khan, reveals Aanand L Rai

India's fast growing smartphone market has found itself a new leader in the form of Samsung Electronics, which has captured 58% share in the quarter that ended in March. The share has been captured because of a bumper 8 million unit sales of its Galaxy J series. 
 
Not only this, Samsung's volume share in the segment is also said to have increased to 55% in the said quarter. Last year in the corresponding period, the South Korean electronics major had a 40% share in smartphones, by both value and volume. 
 "We had an overall markshare of 48.6% in the first quarter of 2016," said Manu Sharma, director-mobile business at <keyword id="107877" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung-India">Samsung India</keyword>, at the launch 2016 editions of Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5. However, he did not comment on the number of devices that they sold or the market share in the affordable segment. 
 
Talking about the said segment, the Rs 6,000-15,000 price segment is called the affordable segment in smartphone market, and it makes up about 65% of the industry by volumes. A list of companies operate in this segment, including both Indian and Chinese players, like Micromax, Intex, Xiaomi and LeEco.

Samsung leads India's affordable smartphone market

Leading smartphone maker has launched <keyword id="3395512" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="samsung-galaxy-note-7">Samsung Galaxy Note 7</keyword> for Rs 59,900, with an aim to further strengthen its position in the premium smartphone segment. Pre-bookings for the phone will start from August 22 and would remain open till August 30. 
 <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> is offering three months of free voice and data services from Reliance Jio, the upcoming telecom leg of Reliance Industries Limited, along with the phone. 
 "We believe Note series will help us consolidate our share in the premium segment (Rs 30,000 upwards)," Manu Sharma, VP (Mobile Business for <keyword id="107877" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung-India">Samsung India</keyword>) told ET. 
 
India’s premium smartphone segment has two main contenders, Samsung and Apple, and as of June 2016, the segment was led by Samsung with 54.1% share. 
 
Once the pre-bookings are over, online and offline sales of Note 7 will start from September 2nd.

Anuj Sharma, the former chief marketing officer of Xiaomi and the current country director for Poco India will rejoin the company as its chief marketing officer (CMO). Nothing partners with Flipkart to launch Ear 1 in India

Making the announcement, the <keyword id="10265015" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="streaming-platform-amazon-prime-video">streaming platform Amazon Prime Video</keyword> shared that season two of the series, which dropped on October 23, has become the most-watched show on the service in India within a week of release, adding that the season has recorded one of the highest completion rates. Expanding its "Galaxy On Series" portfolio, <keyword id="107877" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-India">Samsung India</keyword> on Friday launched a mid-segment smartphone "Galaxy On Nxt" for Rs 18,490 in India. 
 
The 5.5-inch, full-HD "Galaxy On Nxt" has 2.5D Gorilla Glass, powerful octa-core processor, 3GB RAM and 3,300 mAh battery. 
 The device comes with 32GB internal memory, <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> (Marshmallow) OS, dual SIM and Micro SD card support which is expandable up to 256GB. 
 
To ensure data security, the device has a fingerprint sensor that allows quick and secure access. "Galaxy On Nxt" integrates features such as "S Power Planning" and "S Secure" to address consumers' power management and security-related concerns.

The company said the smartphone will be manufactured at a facility in Tamil Nadu. "We are thrilled to announce that every phone (1) sold in India will be manufactured locally," said Manu Sharma, VP and GM of Nothing India. "Nothing phone (1) is the real start of our journey and we cannot think of a better way to establish ourselves in India, which is a key market for us," he added. Nothing phone (1) will be sold via Flipkart. The company is reportedly set to launch the device with a transparent design on July 21. A recent tweet by Nothing CEO and Co-founder, Carl Pei, suggested that the device may arrive with support for wireless charging. The upcoming smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile platform. It is said to be the company's first smartphone and a second device in the overall product ecosystem of the brand. The device will come preinstalled with the Nothing OS. The device will be treated with three years of OS upgrades and four years of security updates. For the upcoming Nothing phone (1), the company is expanding its customer support in the region, to 270 authorised service centres in more than 250 cities, as well as year-round support via the Nothing India channels.
