And the look was hairlessness, particularly the underarms."</p><p>In Roman times the hair-plucking rituals were often performed by slaves, with English Heritage sharing a letter from Roman author and politician Seneca, who complained of the yelps people would let out whilst being plucked, saying "the skinny armpit hair-plucker whose cries are shrill, so as to draw people's attention, and never stop, except when he is doing his job and making someone else shriek for him."</p><div type="image" title="Hair ornament." height="1050" width="928" msid="100728938" hostid="261" sizebytes="22986"></div><p>Moffet said: "At Wroxeter alone, we have discovered over 50 pairs of tweezers, one of the largest collections of this item in Britain, indicating that it was a popular accessory. The combined company will be renamed Manscaped Holdings and will trade under the ticker MANS. </p><p>Upon completion, founder and CEO Paul Tran will continue to lead the firm. The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards of the two companies.</p><p>Manscaped is expected to receive up to $305 million in gross transaction proceeds, including $75 million from PIPE (private investment in public equity) at $9.20 per share. Some of the investors are Tatum, Endeavor Group Holdings, Guggenheim Investments, Signia Venture Partners, Saban Capital Group, and funds managed by UBS O'Connor.</p><p>The firm will also be debt-free at closing, according to the statement, and assuming no redemptions, will have $235 million on the balance sheet.</p><p>"The capital raised in this transaction will drive our ability to serve more men in more <keyword id="11893875" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="markets" source="Orion">markets</keyword> around the world, while also allowing us to grow the Manscaped routine into additional personal care and lifestyle product spaces," Tran said in a statement.</p><p>Founded in 2016, Manscaped specializes in below the waist grooming for men, a focus Tran said he wants to expand to address "all of men's self-care needs."</p><p>The company in the past 12 months has generated $285 million of revenue. It expects to grow to over $500 million in 2023 thanks to international growth and product expansion.</p><p>SPACs, which are shell companies seeking to merge with private companies with the intention of taking them public, have exploded in popularity in the last year.</p><p>In 2020, a total of 248 SPACs raised $83.3 billion according to <a href="https://www.spacanalytics.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SPAC Analytics</a>. In 2021, data shows 555 SPACs have raised $150 billion, comprising 48% of initial public offerings.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The Lead has identified 50 of the most promising online DTC brands for 2023.</li><li>Startups were selected from the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle categories.</li></ul><p>Today's early-stage direct to consumer brands are being forced to follow a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dtc-brands-wholesale-partnerships-are-key-on-path-to-profitability-2022-4">vastly different playbook compared to Casper, Away</a>, and other industry pioneers of the last decade. </p><p>Sure, having a great product and building a community of loyal fans is still crucial. But in 2023, there isn't an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/angel-investors-help-early-stage-dtc-brands-as-vc-retreats-2022-8">army of investors ready to back</a> consumer brands. CEOs are also spending less cash on Google or Facebook ads for fast growth and are more preoccupied with profitability.</p><p><a href="https://the-lead.co/">The Lead</a>, a research and events company, has released the fifth edition of its <a href="https://the-lead.co/the-foremost-50-2023-gated/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"Foremost 50"</a> list, which highlights the DTC fashion, beauty, and lifestyle startups navigating these hurdles and disrupting how legacy brands operate. </p><p>Most of the companies on the list are funded. But raising capital is not a major factor for making the list like it was in the past, Sonal Gandhi, chief product officer at The Lead, told Insider. </p><p>"A lot of the brands featured this year have raised no money or have raised very little at the very early years," she said. "And then, somehow, once they hit that profitability number that they were looking for, they've managed to grow without having to raise additional funding." </p><p>More important is "how efficient they are with the money that they have," Gandhi added. How startups <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/metas-bet-on-ai-is-bringing-back-advertisers-2023-1">acquire customers outside of Facebook and Instagram</a>, how they configure <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/breakfast-getting-pricier-americans-data-2023-1">supply chain networks</a>, and the rate of repeat purchases from customers are other key factors. </p><p>As examples, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/athletic-brewing-company-beer-taste-experience-2022-7">Gandhi highlighted Athletic Brewing</a> and jewelry brand Dorsey — both on the list this year. The latter owns its own breweries, which Gandhi says shows a unique way to use capital and attract customers outside of online ads, while Dorsey is catering to better-for-the-environment trends by selling lab-grown diamonds. </p><p>"Product is an important part of what these brands do, but you cannot just win with a great product," she said. "So we're seeing creative approaches to customer acquisition. We're seeing creative approaches to building communities and then using influencers or other ways to sort of build your brand."</p><p>While higher borrowing rates and the macroeconomic environment are top of mind for DTC CEOs this year, hiring should be much easier in 2023.</p><p>"Just in terms of  growing your teams and getting the expertise, certainly it's gonna be easier going forward for them," Gandhi said. He will be covering all things related to the creator economy and new <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword> models.</p><p>Now onto the news. </p><p>A new influencer agency has climbed to prominence in the industry by helping creators and models manage their OnlyFans accounts.</p><p>Unruly Agency works with top influencers like Tana Mongeau and Daisy Keech, offering a full-service approach to OnlyFans.</p><p>I spoke with the founders of Unruly and industry insiders to learn how the agency works and the services it provides.</p><p>Here are a few key takeaways:</p><ul><li><p>Unruly helps clients set up content shoots and an OnlyFans posting schedule.</p></li><li><p>Unruly also works with some influencers on incorporating integrative marketing on OnlyFans through product placement.</p></li><li><p>The company has connected clients with brands like Fashion Nova, Pretty Little Thing, and Manscaped for brand partnerships.</p></li><li><p>Some other talent managers don't want to work with OnlyFans, so their clients are jumping directly to Unruly.</p></li></ul><p>"We look at ourselves as a concierge service for influencers," Unruly said in a statement. Meet the new influencer company working with top creators and models on OnlyFans

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Shutterstock</span></p><p class="caption">Men shouldn't really shave their legs unless it's for medical reasons.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Manscaping is usually focused on the upper half of a the body - from around the waist and up.</p><p>But a growing number of men are taking their shavers and razors south of the border to tackle their leg hair, <a href="http://www.menshealth.com/grooming/should-men-shave-their-legs">according to Men's Health</a>.</p><p>The lifestyle magazine ran an extremely unscientific poll of their readership on Facebook, and found that around half - 48.4% to be exact - at least partially shave their leg hair.</p><p>The remaining 51.6% of responders said that they don't shave their leg hair at all, and prefer it to grow all natural.</p><p>In 2013, <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/10323641/Skirting-the-Issue-Whats-the-deal-with-men-who-shave-their-legs.html">the Telegraph reported</a> that the number of men seeking leg hair removal treatments at salons had risen sharply.</p><p>Why are so many men shaving or trimming their leg hair? This has to be more than the normal shaving of athletes like bodybuilders and swimmers (though we would imagine Men's Health's Facebook followers skew to that side of things.)</p><p>Image consultant Aaron Marino told the magazine that he will "take the length and bulk down with a groomer attachment. Just so the leg hair isn't crazy, bushy, and long", and that he himself shaves because it's "cleaner" and he "prefers the look."</p><p><span>It's all about men being more "body conscious" in the 21st century, salon expert Ray Khandpur of Drakes of London <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/10323641/Skirting-the-Issue-Whats-the-deal-with-men-who-shave-their-legs.html">told the Telegraph</a>, adding that men do it because they don't like the hair or just see smooth and shiny legs as more attractive on men.</span></p><p><span>So should you shave your leg hair? We don't really recommend it, and we think we're in the majority here.</span></p><p><span>According to a Women's Health Facebook poll, nearly 80% of women prefer men to do little to nothing to their body hair. On a <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/AskWomen/comments/15sv7a/what_do_you_think_of_guys_who_shave_their_legs/">Reddit r/Askwomen thread</a>, most responders said they think it would be "a little odd" or that it would "<span>probably be a turn-off."</span></span></p><p><span><span>We recommend not touching your leg hair, unless it's for athletic or medical reasons. If the bulk of the hair really bothers you, you can certainly run a trimmer along it to cut off excess bulk.
