As a strategist with both the RSS and the BJP, Khattar remained in the shadows until he was thrown into the spotlight in 2014 when he was chosen as the BJP's candidate for the CM elections. Controversies surrounding Khattar Khattar’s five-year term in the state has also been marred with multiple controversies with the biggest one being the Jat agitation in February 2016. The Jat agitation saw violent protests and unrests in the state as the community asked for inclusion in the Other Backward Class, so as to get the affirmative action benefits. Haryana assembly elections 2019: Exit polls predict big win for BJP

The Election Commission (EC) is likely to announce polling dates for Haryana on September 19. The term of current assembly elected in 2014 will expire on 2 November 2019. In the previous elections in 2014, Manohar Lal Khattar of the BJP became Chief Minister after his party won 47 of the 90 seats in the state, getting a clear majority. Notably, Khattar was the first non-jat chief minister of the state in 18 years. The Indian National Lok Dal won 19 seats, while the incumbent Congress won only 15. The BJP hopes to retain power in the state this time too, but it is facing anti-incumbency. However, a fractured opposition that consists of the Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) could benefit the BJP. In 2014, the polling schedule for Maharashtra and Haryana was announced on September 20. Polling in both the states took place in a single phase on October 15. Results were announced on October 19. The term of current assembly elected in 2014 will expire on 2 November 2019. These state assembly elections will be the first after the Lok sabha Polls of 2019. They will also be the first after the abrogation of Article 370. These polls will serve as a litmus test for the BJP government amidst reports of acute economic slowdown.

Thalassemia patients to get ₹ 2,500 per month in Haryana

Late Bhajan Lal's sons Kuldeep Bishnoi (Adampur) and Chander Mohan (Panchkula) are in the fray as Congress nominees. While BJP denied tickets to 12 of its 48 sitting legislators including two Ministers, the Congress retained its sitting legislators while the INLD saw its prominent faces switching over to the BJP, the Congress and the JJP. In the 2014 assembly polls, the BJP for the first time came to power in Haryana on its own winning 47 seats. It won the Jind bypolls earlier this year, taking its total strength in the state assembly to 48. The INLD had 19 MLAs while the Congress has 17 legislators. The BSP and the SAD had bagged one seat each in the last polls while five were Independents.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya to get ₹4 crore from the Haryana government for bagging silver in Tokyo

Chandigarh, Mar 2 () Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday announced special girdawari (revenue survey) of rabi crops affected due to heavy rains and hailstorms in some parts of the state recently. The special girdawari was ordered for assessment of crop loss so that the farmers can get compensation for damaged crops. The chief minister made the announcement in the State Assembly here after some members expressed concern over loss of crops due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms. On Sunday, Haryana's Cooperation Minister Banwari Lal had inspected fields of farmers and interacted with those whose crops were damaged due to rains and hailstorm in Rewari district. During his visit, Lal had assured the farmers of all possible help and also directed sub-divisional officer and officials of agriculture department to assess crop loss of every affected farmer. From this, 40.67 lakh voters fall in the age group of 20-29, whereas 44.92 lakh fall in the 30-39 age group. According to an IANS report, nearly 22% voters in the 20-29 age group will play a major role in the Haryana Assembly polls on Monday, say social scientists.  Fight for power Khattar, who became the first BJP CM in 2014, might be riding high on BJP’s latest win in the state during the Lok Sabha general elections, where the party won all 10 LS seats. But he faces strong competition from Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the two-time chief minister of the state. Hooda, amidst much hullabaloo, got his party – the Indian National Congress’ ticket – to fight for the elections. Hooda, along with his strong political background, is also the party’s Jat face in Haryana. The Jat community holds over 25% of the state’s population forming a large vote bank. Haryana assembly elections: 1.83 crore voters to decide the fate of the state

Chandigarh, Feb 28 () Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who also holds the finance portfolio, on Friday announced a Rs 1,42,343-crore budget in the state assembly here. Khattar, who presented his maiden budget, said that the debt is set to increase to Rs 1.98 lakh crore in 2020-21 as against Rs 1.76 lakh crore in the previous fiscal. He further stated that the expenditure will increase to Rs 1,42,343 crore, a rise by 7.7 per cent. Revenue receipts are expected to increase by 15.96 per cent in 2020-21 to Rs 89,964 crore, he said. The government has allocated Rs 5,474.25 crore to agriculture, Rs 19,343 crore to education and sports and culture, Rs 6,533 crore to health and medical education, Rs 6,294 crore to rural development and panchayat, Rs 349 crore to industries and Rs 9,000 crore to pensions, he said.
