Goa Sports Minister <keyword id="4431700" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="manohar-ajgaonkar">Manohar Ajgaonkar</keyword> has said <keyword id="2179422" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Indian-Super-League">the Indian Super League</keyword> will be held in the coastal state as per the <keyword id="162487" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Standard-Operating-Procedures">standard operating procedures</keyword> and guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The <keyword id="74503" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goa-government">Goa government</keyword> will also try to boost tourism in the state by hosting the Indian Super League (ISL), Ajgaonkar told reporters on Sunday. All matches of the seventh edition of ISL will be held at three venues in Goa, likely in November, amid strict health and safety measures to deal with the COVID-19 threat, the organisers said on Sunday. <keyword id="9770948" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-jawaharlal-nehru-stadium-at-fatorda">The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda</keyword> in Margao, the Tilak Nagar Stadium at Vasco da Gama and the GMC Athletic Stadium at Bambolim are the venues slated to host the matches. Ajgaonkar said the Goa government is happy to host ISL in the state. "We have already given permission for the ISL games in Goa, he said, adding that all SOPs will be followed along with guidelines of the MHA. "Football is our state game and through it, we will be pushing for tourism, said Ajgaonkar, who also holds charge of the tourism department in the Pramod Sawant-led government. He said nearly 500 rooms in various hotels would be booked for the event, which will provide business to the tourism stakeholders. The matches will be held without the presence of spectators at the venues, the minister said. "But, if we manage to find any solution for COVID-19, then we might even allow spectators," he added. Goa to host Indian Super League as per MHA guidelines

Panaji, Oct 14 (IANS) Discouraging tourists from consuming drugs and keeping budget tourists from cooking in public places, are two major red flags identified in the Goa tourism policy which was approved by the state cabinet on Wednesday, Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said. Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the cabinet Ajgaonkar said that the broad objective of the tourism policy was to promote the natural beauty of Goa and the state's heritage and widen the current one-track focus on the state's beaches. "Goa's beauty is famous all over the world. We have to take tourism ahead by promoting its culture and natural beauty," Ajgaonkar told reporters. "We want good tourists. We do not want drugs and tourists who consume drugs. We do not want people who cook food on the streetside," Ajgaonkar said, adding that these two aspects spoil the image of Goa Tourism. Budget tourists travelling in large vehicles and camping and cooking in public places and footpaths, has been a subject of debate in the Assembly in the last few years with lawmakers calling the trend a menace. A major reform in the new tourism policy is the introduction of the Goa Tourism Board, a body largely comprising of tourism industry experts and stakeholders, who have been tasked with identifying and implementing long and short term goals for the industry. Goa is a well known beach tourism destination and last year the coastal state attracted nearly eight million tourists. No drug-consuming tourists, no cooking in public places: Goa tourism policy

Panaji, Sep 5 (IANS) The drug trade was going on unchecked in the previous Congress-led regimes but it took a BJP-led government to show the guts to raid an illegal rave party in Goa and catch bigwigs, state Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said on Saturday. "Big fish involved in drug trade have been caught by this government. Drug business will be finished in Goa. This government had the guts to conduct such a big raid involving influential people. If the government was not keen, such business would have continued unabated," Ajgaonkar told reporters on Saturday referring to an illegal rave party busted in North Goa's Anjuna beach village. A small-time Bollywood actor Kapil Jhaveri along with Shailesh Shetty, an aide of former Goa Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte, three foreigners and more than a dozen other revellers were arrested by the Crime Branch of the Goa Police, after its team busted the rave party in which drugs were being consumed. Ajgaonkar said that the drug trade was not new to Goa and had flourished during the previous regimes led by the Congress party. "In the previous Congress government regime, drugs used to be sold openly and there was internal fixing with drug dealers. This government is firm and all its MLAs support action against drug trade," Ajgaonkar told reporters. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has already warned of "zero tolerance" to drugs in the state. Goa, one of the country's most popular tourist destinations, has remained shut for travellers since the nationwide coronavirus-induced lockdown was imposed in March. The decision to restart tourism activities was taken during a state cabinet meeting, the minister said. The tourism department has so far granted permission to 250 hotels, which can operate in keeping with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) put in place by the state government. "We have decided to allow domestic travellers to enter Goa from July 2 onwards provided they comply with certain norms," the minister said. It will be mandatory for tourists to pre-book their stay at hotels, which have received the tourism department's approval, he said. Hotels and homestays that have not registered with the department to reopen business will not be allowed to entertain guests or offer online bookings, Ajgaonkar said. Moreover, tourists will either have to carry COVID-19 negative certificates to enter the state, or will have to get tested at the border and undergo quarantine at a state-run facility till their results arrive, he said. Panaji, Apr 19 () The Goa tourism department willseek financial help from the Centre for the industrystakeholders to overcome the crisis they are facing due to thecoronavirus outbreak.State Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, in aninterview to , said his department has written to ChiefMinister Pramod Sawant, seeking help for the tourism industryfrom the Prime Minister's relief fund for COVID-19."How much fund is required for it has to be decided bya panel of experts. We have formed a committee headed by statefinance secretary Daulat Hawaldar to study it. We will have towork out a plan to get out of this crisis," he said.Goa already has a tourism policy. The state wants tointroduce a financial package for hoteliers, vendors, shackowners and others dependent on tourism so that they canrestart their business, he said.The minister further said the state government shouldnot allow any tourists in the coastal state after the lockdownis lifted, unless they are certified negative for coronavirus.This practice should continue for next two years tillthe situation normalises at the global level, he said. Ajgaonkar said the coronavirus outbreak happened at atime when the coastal state had managed to get back itstourism industry on track after the global slump.
