It entertains the audience, makes them engage with it and take notice. Any conversation that tends towards a slight controversy grabs eye-balls on social media and can be remembered for a longer time. While Cola wars and burger rivalries are quite common, a recent example that caught our attention was that of top honchos of Chinese smartphone companies such as Xiaomi’s Manu Kumar Jain, Realme’s Madhav Sheth and Poco’s C Manmohan engaging in a war of words on Twitter. It all started when a Twitter user, Nimish Dubey, tagged Jain asking if Xiaomi’s ad model had inspired Realme’s decision to introduce intrusive ads onto its operating system. To which, Jain responded by mocking Realme for being a ‘copy-cat’ instead. He further said that all smartphone brands push advertisements but the audience mocks Xiaomi because it has been transparent about its business model, whilst others have shied away.

 Brand and Social Media Expert, Karthik Srinivasan took to Twitter to share his views on this conversation between the CEOs and how it can affect their brand’s image in public. He wrote, “This is all terrible form, to play out in public. This used to be reserved for closed rooms and private discussions earlier. Now, it's all spilling into a public spectacle. Maybe they all learn from TV News channels which have made mudslinging an art form and as viewers (humans!), we all seem to love watching dirty linen being washed in public as long as it is not our dirty linen. Voyeurism.” However, he also said that this could open up a room for public transparency, bringing boardroom bashing out in the public. “Another way to look at it: this is the new way of doing business! Attacking rivals head-on, publicly, in a highly competitive market is a way to garner attention. Riding on that heady attention is akin to riding a wild bull, but that's the need for today's cut-throat markets,” explains Srinivasan. Even in the past, rivals Xiaomi and OnePlus have tried to pull each other down in their campaigns. When OnePlus on-boarded Hollywood actor, Robert Downey Junior as its brand endorser, Xiaomi came up with an OOH campaign and placed it right beside OnePlus’ billboard with a tagline that read, ‘Starkly Superior To The Latest One’, taking a dig at OnePlus. Talking about the larger problem in this recent banter, Srinivasan tweeted, “When you attack someone, the viewers would assume that you are open for attacks too. ‘He can do that to others, so I guess he's game too!’. ‘Negativity begets negativity’. Both positivity and negativity are contagious. It's usually a choice.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation (<keyword id="6354572" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="cbi" source="Orion">CBI</keyword>) has arrested 11 more persons, including businessmen and <keyword id="347681" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pearls-group" source="Orion">Pearls Group</keyword> employees in connection with ₹60,000 crore Pearls Ponzi Scheme case. "Chander Bhushan Dhillon, Prem Seth, Manmohan Kamal Mahajan, Mohanlal Sehajpal, Kanwaljit Singh Toor are the employees of the Pearls Group who have been placed under arrest. Apart from them we arrested Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata-based businessmen Praveen Kumar Agarwal, <keyword id="978155" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mannoj-kumar-jain" source="Orion">Mannoj Kumar Jain</keyword>, Akash Agarwal, Anil Kumar Khemka, Subhash Agarwal and Rajesh," said a CBI official. The official said that the CBI had earlier registered a Preliminary Enquiry on the directions of the Supreme Court against Pearls Group, which had allegedly collected around ₹60,000 crore from around five crore investors all across the country by illegally operating different investment schemes, without any statutory approval, with an intention to cheat them. The accused had given land guarantee to the investors to lure them. The people were told that they would be getting an interest of 12.5 per cent if they would invest. They were offered free accidental insurance and income tax free maturity on their investments. The accused had also promised the investors that the value of the land that they were purchasing would multiply fast. Later on the basis of the enquiry a case was registered against Ms. PGF Limited, Ms PACL Limited, <keyword id="2082526" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmal-singh-bhangoo" source="Orion">Nirmal Singh Bhangoo</keyword> and other Directors of these two flagship companies of the Pearls Group. During investigation, Nirmal Singh Bhangoo, <keyword id="154354" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sukhdev-singh" source="Orion">Sukhdev Singh</keyword>, <keyword id="58350" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="subrata-bhattacharya" source="Orion">Subrata Bhattacharya</keyword> and Gurmeet Singh were arrested in January 2016. Later in April 2016 the CBI filed it's first charge sheet against them. The CBI had identified properties of Nirmal Singh Bhangoo worth ₹1.85 lakh crore in the current market rate across the country. The accused had also invested in Australian companies. Australian cricketer Bret Lee was a brand ambassador for the Pearl Group and the IPL team 'Kings XI Punjab' was also cosponsored by Pearl Group. To investigate the role of other accused in this multi-crore financial scam, which had adversely affected the interests of millions of investors, further investigation of the case was continued. This morning the CBI arrested 11 more persons for their alleged involvement in the case. The Enforcement Directorate is also probing a case of PMLA in this connection. More than 200 eminent Indian Americans attended the reception at the East Room, a venue which has witnessed some of the landmark events related to the India-US relationship, including the signing of the nuclear deal and the joint press conference by then US President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in November 2008. The reception saw some enthralling cultural events, including performances by sitarist Rishab Sharma and dance troupe The Sa Dance Company. The guests, dressed in traditional Indian attires such as saree, lehenga and sherwani, relished some mouthwatering Indian delicacies. Biden has appointed a record number of over 130 Indo-Americans at various levels of the administrations, he said. Lauding the Diwali celebration, Bhutoria said it sent a message how much President Biden and this administration loves and respects the South Asian community . Earlier, welcoming the guests, Biden said it was the first Diwali reception to be held at the White House on such a scale. The incredible South Asian community all across America has helped the country emerge stronger from this pandemic, building an economy that works for everyone, teaching children and caring for elders, responding to the cry for action on climate, working to fix immigration system, defending rights and freedoms, building a more just and equitable country, serving and protecting our communities and the nation, informing, entertaining and inspiring, he said.
