Kerala reports third case of Monkeypox in India

A four-month-old baby girl, who had tested positive for COVID-19 and suffering from congenital heart disease, died in a hospital here in Kerala early Friday after suffering a cardiac arrest, officials said. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="75341330" title="Coronavirus cases in India count hits 23,000 mark— 718 dead and 4,748 recovered as of April 24" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> This is the third COVID-19 death and the first infant fatality in the state where two elderly people had succumbed to the disease earlier. The baby was admitted to the <keyword id="27558" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Medical-college">Medical College</keyword> Hospital here on April 21 with history of fever, cough, breathing difficulties and seizure after being treated at two other hospitals and the end came at 6 am, a medical bulletin said. <keyword id="8707488" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-health-minister-kk-shailaja">State Health Minister KK Shailaja</keyword> said doctors had made maximum efforts to save the life of the child, whose family belonged to Payyanad near Manjeri in <keyword id="417491" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Malappuram-district">Malappuram district</keyword>. "Preliminary information which we have is that there has been some primary contact", she told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram. The bulletin said on arrival at the hospital on Tuesday the baby was in shock and had respiratory failure. "She was resuscitated, mechanically ventilated and appropriate antibiotics for pneumonia and supportive measures to correct shock were started", it said adding the baby, however, continued to remain sick. "Even though there was no history of any high or low-risk contact or any epidemiological links as the child comes fromSARI (Severe Acute Respiratory infection) criteria, she was admitted to the COVID-ICU and swab was taken and she tested positive", the bulletin said. Contact tracing of those who had come in contact with the child was in progress. Mallapuram District Medical Officer (Health) Dr Sakeena Ksaid the child, was having severe health issues from its birth itself and was admitted to a private hospital in Manjeri near here with a breathing problem. Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], July 31 (ANI): The death toll in the <keyword id="22610714" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wayanad-landslide-tragedy" source="keywords">Wayanad landslide tragedy</keyword> climbed to 143 on Wednesday, with several injured and trapped, according to the State Health Department. Relief and <keyword id="6388465" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rescue-operations" source="Orion">rescue operations</keyword> are underway in Wayanad's Chooralmala after a <keyword id="6420762" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="landslide" source="Orion">landslide</keyword> broke out yesterday. The massive landslide wreaked havoc in the region as houses and roads were damaged, trees uprooted and water bodies swelled, hindering rescue operations. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the national flag is at half-mast at the Kerala Legislative Assembly as a two-day mourning period is observed in the state following the <keyword id="6782464" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wayanad-landslide" source="Orion">Wayanad landslide</keyword> that claimed 143 lives. On Tuesday, Union Minister George Kurian reached Wayanad to take stock of ongoing relief operations, where he interacted with senior officials of the NDRF, CRPF and Army officials. Since many teams are working, we cannot give an exact number of deaths, because we only know about the dead bodies our team has recovered... People have been given shelter in a resort and a mosque on the other side of the river. Since rainfall is going on, there are chances of another landslide." Meanwhile, in reports just coming in, Kerala health Minister Veena George's vehicle met with a minor accident near Manjeri in Malappuram district. She was travelling to Wayanad. No major injuries were reported to either the health minister or her staff. The Health Minister is being treated at Manjeri Medical College Earlier, in response to the landslide in Wayanad, Veena George visited the Health Department Directorate to assess the ongoing arrangements. She provided a detailed overview of the situation and instructed for precise tracking of available hospital beds in the affected areas, as per the Kerala Health Minister's Office. Minister George also recommended setting up temporary hospitals if necessary and emphasised the need to evaluate the mortuary systems at existing hospitals, including the utilization of mobile mortuaries. She also reviewed the operations of the control room, which will function 24/7 to assist both health workers and the public, Kerala Health Minister's Office. On Tuesday morning, two massive landslides that washed away the Mundakkai and Chooramala areas of Vellarimala village took place under Meppadi Panchayat in Wayanad. The landslides destroyed several houses, uprooted trees and made water bodies swell, hampering the rescue work. Meanwhile, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), "Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on July 31 and August 1."' The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall for August 2. Additionally, it said, "Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 30-40 gusting to 50 kmph are likely to prevail occasionally over Kerala on July 30 and 31." The first landslide occurred at 2 am on July 30, followed by another at 4:10 am, causing immense damage to homes and livelihoods. Many areas, including Meppadi, Mundakkai and Chooralmala, have been isolated, and roads have been washed away. The Vellarmala GVH School was completely buried. Late on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a high-level meeting to expedite the rescue operations at the landslide-affected Chooralmala in Wayanad. Malappuram(Ker), May 19 () In the first case of relapse of Covid-19 infection in Kerala, a nine-month pregnant nurse, who returned from Kuwait recently after recovering from the disease, has tested positive once again here. The 34-year-old Alappuzha native had returned to India on May 13 after she managed to get a ticket on board one of the special flights arranged by the central government under the 'Vande Bharat mission " to bring back stranded Indians from the gulf and other countries. On disclosing her history of coronavirus and recovery from the disease in Kuwait, the health authorities had shifted her to the isolation ward at the Government medical college in Manjeri. District health authorities said thewoman had returned to India after recovering from the viral infection, but before a repeat test prescribed after 14 days. "We appreciate the fact that she disclosed the facts of her infection history. She tested negative in Kuwait, but got her ticket to India before undergoing a second test," the District Medical Officer Dr K Sakeena told . Though the case of a relapse is a first in the state, there have been cases of complications of the coronavirus recovered persons as their immune systems became weak, sources pointed out. There have been cases of relapse of the infection from some other places in the country, they said. With one more person testing positive on Monday, the total number of positive cases in Malappuram district has gone up to 22.
