New Delhi, May 29 (IANS) As businesses around the globe adapt to the new normal, Google Cloud is helping a diverse set of organisations, from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based company Fluid AI efficiently manage their workloads across remote locations, Karan Bajwa, Managing Director, Google Cloud India, said on Friday. Bajwa, a senior industry veteran with over three decades of leadership experience who joined Google Cloud in March this year, said that most businesses and users in the country depend on Google Cloud to stay connected and get work done. "As Covid-19 runs its course, we at Google Cloud are working hard to deliver technology and business solutions to help millions of people stay connected. We believe today more than ever, we need to collaborate and innovate and build new features to make our tools helpful, secure and safe," he said in a blog post. Bajwa said that today, employees of NPCI have been able to efficiently manage work across remote locations where employees can securely work and collaborate with colleagues, clients and stakeholders. "Kochi-based conglomerate Muthoot Group, one of the largest financial services providers in the country has been using G Suite's collaboration tools to stay connected and carry business as usual during the lockdown period," he informed. Popxo, India's largest community of women online was able to accomplish a smooth transition to Google Cloud and optimise performance with the help of highly efficient tools and the support and collaboration from teams. According to Bajwa, real estate company Rustomjee can access every business application via Google Cloud Platform. "Fluid AI has leveraged our collaboration to spin up custom virtual machines on demand in the cloud for employees and stream it to them in a secure, cost effective way that is monitored and restricts data transfer," he added. Google Cloud has a rich list of customers in India, including Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Indiamart, Hero Motocorp, ICICI Prudential, L&amp;T Finance, LIC HFL, Manipal Hospitals, OYO Hotels and Homes, Truecaller, Wipro and others. In March, the company announced plans to expand its presence in India by launching a cloud region in Delhi, adding to its Mumbai region that was opened in 2017. Google Cloud this month appointed former Microsoft executive Anil Bhansali as Vice President of Engineering. (Eds: Updates with additional details ) New Delhi, Jun 11 () IIT Madras, IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi bagged the top three positions among the educational institutions in the country in the HRD Ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings announced on Thursday. The top 10 higher education institutes in the country included seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). According to the fifth edition of the annual rankings, the top three universities are IISc Bengaluru, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). IIM Ahmedabad has been ranked as the top business school in the country, followed by IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta. Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal "Nishank" announced that Miranda College bagged the top rank among colleges, followed by Lady Sri Ram College for Women, Hindu College and St Stephen's College -- all under the Delhi University (DU). According to the rankings, the top three engineering colleges in the country are IIT Madras, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. In the pharmacy category, the top institute is Delhi's Jamia Hamdard, followed by the Panjab University, Chandigarh and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, Mohali. In the medical colleges category, AIIMS, Delhi bagged the top spot, followed by PGI, Chandigarh and CMC, Vellore. The annual rankings are usually announced in April but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "These rankings act as a guide to students for selection of universities based on a set criteria and helps universities to improve their performance on various ranking parameters and identify gaps in research and areas of improvement. This exercise has also created a habit of organising data by the institutions and most of all, these institutions attempt to become more competitive," Nishank said. The HRD minister attributed the performance of Indian institutions in international rankings to the weightage given by them to the parameter of perception and reputation. "I do not agree to their parameters, be it the Times Higher Education Ranking or QS rankings, some of our very credible institutions have produced alumni who are spread across the globe, we are doing excellent research, we should be judged on those parameters," he said. The ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad generic groups of parameters -- teaching, learning and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI) and perception (PR). The ranks are given on the basis of the sum total of marks assigned for each of these five broad groups of parameters. The dental colleges in the country were ranked for the first time by the NIRF. Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Manipal College of Dental Sciences and DY Patil Vidyapeeth were ranked the top three institutes in this category. The top three institutions for architecture studies are IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee and National Institute of Technology, Calicut. The top three law schools are -- National Law School of India University, Bengaluru; National Law University, New Delhi and Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad. A total of 3,771 universities and higher educational institutions across the country participated in the ranking process. The QS World University Rankings were announced on Wednesday, in which two IITs -- Delhi and Bombay -- and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru maintained their positions in the top 200, despite losing some points. Google ropes in the India research head at Microsoft Azure's cloud division

New Delhi, Nov 28 () Healthcare industry body NATHEALTH on Thursday said it is working closely with the government to achieve the vision of providing universal health coverage in the country.
The body also suggested that corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds could be used to push the critical segments such as preventive health, skilling and digital technologies.
"We are working very closely with the government because unless we work together, universal health coverage to masses is just not going to happen," NATHEALTH President and Manipal Health Enterprises Chairman Sudarshan Ballal told reporters here.
He was speaking at the 6th Annual Summit of the NATHEALTH on the theme of 'Reimagining Collaboration to Strengthen India's Healthcare Growth Trajectory'.
The government and industry need to work together to realize the Prime Minister's vision of Health for All, he added.
Ballal also said that for transparency and ethical practices in the healthcare sector "we believe that we should have a code of ethics. Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ficci and many others have worked on this and we at NATHEALTH would like to facilitate so that the code of ethics is followed".
He also said that NATHEALTH would like to make India as a 'healthcare destination of the world'.
NATHEALTH Senior Vice President and Apollo Hospitals Group Vice Chairperson Preetha Reddy said: "Healthcare today is at an inflection point".
Both, the government and private sector have to work together to ensure that healthcare is accessible to the entire population of the country, she added.
More than anything else, "we need a world class brand for India and for that we have to give high quality good outcomes, so that the rest of world looks at India. There is a potential for people from other countries to come to India for healthcare, we just have to do more about it," Reddy said.
The importance for building trust between investors, policy makers and people seeking care - whether from India or from outside - cannot be undermined, she added.
The industry body also said it is willing to pool industry CSR and work with the government and development sector partners to test innovative delivery models and create replicable pathways for scale. AKT BAL

Paytm education will help students and government job aspirants with education loans and coaching

Following China's approval, the UN will issue a travel ban and arms embargo against Azhar. The move will also freeze his finances and assets. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping "have developed a chemistry of trust with each other" since their meeting in Wuhan a year ago, said Madhav Nalapat, a professor of geopolitics at India's Manipal University. Beijing's approval of the UN sanctions "would be a win not for India or China but for the global war on terror", Nalapat said soon before Beijing's decision was announced. "Terrorists have neither a religion or a nationality, and should be opposed by all countries unitedly and in co-ordination." China, a permanent member of the Security Council, blocked the assembly's move to sanction Azhar in 2016 and 2017. India first proposed the sanctions in 2009. China backs UN blacklist of leader of Pakistan-based militants, ending a decade of opposition

As popularity of startups is growing and they are turning into million dollar firms, family-run businesses are diverting their focus to greenhorns. 
 Family owned top businesses are focusing on technology and consumer internet sectors and investing through directly, through <keyword id="6357097" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="venture-capital">venture capital</keyword> firms, and even venture debt. 
 
For instance, Aarin Capital of Manipal Group scion Ranjan Pai and TV Mohandas Pai and Unicorn India Ventures funded the pre-Series A round in news and events startup Inc42. 
 
As per reports, Mohandas Pai is also creating up a Rs 100-crore family office fund that can invest in tech-focused startups. 
 "People are embracing the change, and more so because traditional asset classes are not giving the returns of old. Some of the family offices will be investing a lot more because, one, they don't want to miss out, and also because the (startup) ecosystem is maturing rapidly," Sanjeev Krishan, transaction services and <keyword id="34499" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-equity">private equity</keyword> leader at PwC India, told ET. 
 
Experts say there is no dearth of wealth in India and what family businesses are looking for are good managers.

As per an industry report, 18 investors participated in the latest fund-raising exercise of LetsVenture, which includes Accel Partners, People Group's Anupam Mittal, Times Internet, Singapore Angels and IDG Ventures India. 
 
"Just like the last 10 years was about creating doctors and engineers, this decade will be about creating entrepreneurs. It's a foundational period now. I hope LetsVenture succeeds in this and I make money off that," Anupam Mittal told ET. 
 
Talking about the expansion plan, Shanti Mohan, CEO of LetsVenture, said that the funding marketplace will be using the money from the latest Series A funding round to bring in more investors on its board from across the globe. In 2014, LetsVenture raised Rs 4 crore from a group of 21 angel investors. 
 
According to Mohan, “LetsVenture has unlocked a new category of angel investors online-entrepreneurs-turned-investors, second-generation family businesses and global Indians who are actively looking for a trusted marketplace to discover high-quality” last year. 
 
Up until now, LetsVenture has 1,200 investors from 20 countries and has raised $17 million ( Rs 109.9 crore) for 53 startups, the business daily reported. It plans to double its team to 40 people by the end of the year.

Though, no Indian institute has yet broken into the top 200, IISc holds a rank in the 201-250 band. The last time around it was in the band of 251-300. 	 "The government's focus on improving India's standing in global rankings - and even the introduction of the India-specific rankings - has started to yield results. 	 Amrita University and Andhra University slipped down to the 801+ group. However, on the brighter side NIT Rourkela, Sri Venkateswara University, TIFR and Tezpur University made their way in the top 800 list. 
	 “This year's expanded list is a testimony to how competitive global <keyword id="6375224" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="higher-education">higher education</keyword> has become. The 980 universities come from 79 different countries,” <keyword id="3660284" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="batty">Batty</keyword> told ET. 
	 US for the first time in 12 years lost the first rank in the list with <keyword id="150557" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-of-Oxford">University of Oxford</keyword> becoming the world's top university. Tech investor TV <keyword id="6491998" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mohandas-Pai">Mohandas Pai</keyword> today said that forcing beleaguered businessman <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>, who owes over Rs 9,000 crore to several banks, to come back to India is a "bad strategy". 

	"I think it's a bad strategy to force him to come back because I don't think they have a strong case to do what they are doing," the former Chief Financial Officer of software major Infosys said. 
 

	Better strategy, he said, is to get the Debt Recovery Tribunal to pass an order invoking guarantee he has given to banks and attach his assets. 
 

	Today, there is no proof for or against Vijay Mallya asking him to pay back any money. There is no court order. Dispute is in the court. Court has not given any order. Everybody is saying 'pay back, pay back' but pay back what? For paying back, you need a court order...exactly how much to pay and all that. I think it's being badly handled," Pai told PTI. 
 

	Pai, co-founder of Aarin Capital, favoured requesting the Supreme Court to pass an order for negotiations with the liquor baron. 
 

	He noted that nobody has claimed that Mallya siphoned off money and indulged in money laundering till Enforcement Directorate (ED) went after him. 
 

	"Nobody knows what evidence ED has. None of the banks has found evidence, no body spoke about it. Now only ED is saying," said Pai, currently Chief Adviser to the Manipal Education and Medical Group. 
 

	He stressed the need for improving legal system in the country, noting that the case against Mallya was going on before DRT from the year 2013. 
 

	Pai said he was also against "naming and shaming" willful defaulters of bank loans. 
 

	"Once you lost money, there is no shame. Everybody knows you lost money, what is the shame? Shame is a middle class morality; shame is not there for business class or those who own business," he said. 
 

	"I don't think anybody's name should be made public. What should be done is: we need bankruptcy law to force them into bankruptcy, sell their assets and get back the money. Once there is bankruptcy law, they are forced into bankruptcy; it (their names) will automatically become public," Pai said
