Singapore-based investment firm <keyword id="6367519" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="temasek" source="Orion">Temasek</keyword> will acquire an additional 41 per cent stake in <keyword id="533812" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="manipal-health-enterprises" source="Orion">Manipal Health Enterprises</keyword>, to take majority control of the Bengaluru-based firm, as per a joint statement issued by the entities on Monday. The companies did not share financial details of the deal. Sources, however, said Temasek stake buyout would be for over Rs 16,300 crore valuing Manipal Health Enterprises (MHE) at around Rs 40,000 crore, making it the largest deal in the Indian healthcare sector. Following the closing of the transaction, <keyword id="6379586" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="manipal-group" source="Orion">Manipal Group</keyword> will hold about 30 per cent in Manipal Health Enterprises. Sheares Healthcare Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary and independently-managed portfolio company of Temasek, will retain its existing 18 per cent stake, it said. Besides, global alternative asset management firm <keyword id="6367884" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tpg" source="Orion">TPG</keyword>, which first invested in MHE through TPG Asia VI in 2015, will fully exit. But, TPG will hold an interest of 11 per cent in the healthcare chain, through its new Asia fund - TPG Asia VIII, it added. National Investment &amp; Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) will exit its holding from MHE, the statement said. "We are very glad for Temasek's acquisition of a significant stake in Manipal Health Enterprises and its support to the management team in building out the platform to its full potential," Manipal Group Chairman <keyword id="354291" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ranjan-pai" source="Orion">Ranjan Pai</keyword> said in a statement.  "By 2025 there will be 200 million young people in the age group of 21-41 with no jobs or less jobs and nobody knows what to do with these people. Government policy does not know what to do as they don't have proper data. We are going to have demographic nightmare,” Pai, who is the chairman of <keyword id="852747" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manipal-Global-Education-Services">Manipal Global Education Services</keyword>, told ET. 
 
Nearly 52% of people are employed in agriculture as compared to 62% 10 years earlier and number of population which depends on services and industries is growing at 10%.

He said that more and more companies are relying on automation and artificial intelligence in machine and this will lead to loss in jobs. 
 
"Rule based jobs will get eliminated. Much of middle class people are involved in rule based jobs. Rule based jobs can be made by algorithms. Machines are still not creative. People who are creative will remain," Pai said. 
 
He also feels that in sectors like banking too, jobs are shrinking because of automation of payment system with the help of ATMs, digital payments. 
 
"Bank branches and employment are now shrinking in America. In India in last 15 years, banks have growth 10-15 times in assets and liabilities but employment has grown 5 per cent. In India very soon there will be robo finance which will search all portals and give you bank loan quote in half an hour," Pai told ET.

The leading digital payments unicorn has now set its sights on the education sector. It will offer services across payments, commerce, financial and academia to students, parents and government job aspirants. Paytm wants a piece of the ₹100,000 crore education sector pie. And believes that it can gain Gross Merchandise Volume of ₹20,000 crore in 2019-20, from education alone. The digital payments company is not just offering services for payments but many more to help students. “Right from providing details on 25,000 colleges, schools, courses and exams, our bouquet of services will include – payments (in-app and in educational centres), commerce (coaching, scholarships, test preparation, admission forms etc.) and financial services (student insurance, educational loans, easy EMI, and banking),” said Vineet Kaul, Senior Vice President - Paytm. To enable this, the company has partnered with Railway Recruitment Board, Maharashtra Public Service Commission, National Testing Agency, Indian Navy, Amity, VIT, Manipal, AKTU, Army Public Schools, Delhi Public Schools, Delhi University, IITs, IIMs, NITs, Aligarh Muslim University, AIMA, ICAI, Narayana Group, Career Launcher, Made Easy, Career360 and several others. Paytm already offers options to schools and colleges to accept fees via Paytm app. It is now hoping to bring onboard 350 million more users from 20,000 private schools, 1,000 higher educational institutes and 1,000 coaching institutes. The Indian education sector is expected to reach a size of $5.7 billion by 2020. The sector is also brimming with startups like the unicorn Byju’s, Unacademy and more. They have been raking in users, business in addition to attracting investors.

Paytm education will help students and government job aspirants with education loans and coaching

New Delhi, Nov 28 () Healthcare industry body NATHEALTH on Thursday said it is working closely with the government to achieve the vision of providing universal health coverage in the country.
The body also suggested that corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds could be used to push the critical segments such as preventive health, skilling and digital technologies.
"We are working very closely with the government because unless we work together, universal health coverage to masses is just not going to happen," NATHEALTH President and Manipal Health Enterprises Chairman Sudarshan Ballal told reporters here.
He was speaking at the 6th Annual Summit of the NATHEALTH on the theme of 'Reimagining Collaboration to Strengthen India's Healthcare Growth Trajectory'.
The government and industry need to work together to realize the Prime Minister's vision of Health for All, he added.
Ballal also said that for transparency and ethical practices in the healthcare sector "we believe that we should have a code of ethics. Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ficci and many others have worked on this and we at NATHEALTH would like to facilitate so that the code of ethics is followed".
He also said that NATHEALTH would like to make India as a 'healthcare destination of the world'.
NATHEALTH Senior Vice President and Apollo Hospitals Group Vice Chairperson Preetha Reddy said: "Healthcare today is at an inflection point".
Both, the government and private sector have to work together to ensure that healthcare is accessible to the entire population of the country, she added.
More than anything else, "we need a world class brand for India and for that we have to give high quality good outcomes, so that the rest of world looks at India. There is a potential for people from other countries to come to India for healthcare, we just have to do more about it," Reddy said.
The importance for building trust between investors, policy makers and people seeking care - whether from India or from outside - cannot be undermined, she added.
The industry body also said it is willing to pool industry CSR and work with the government and development sector partners to test innovative delivery models and create replicable pathways for scale. AKT BAL

Working closely with govt to ensure universal health coverage: NATHEALTH

Tech investor TV <keyword id="6491998" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mohandas-Pai">Mohandas Pai</keyword> today said that forcing beleaguered businessman <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>, who owes over Rs 9,000 crore to several banks, to come back to India is a "bad strategy". 

	"I think it's a bad strategy to force him to come back because I don't think they have a strong case to do what they are doing," the former Chief Financial Officer of software major Infosys said. 
 

	Better strategy, he said, is to get the Debt Recovery Tribunal to pass an order invoking guarantee he has given to banks and attach his assets. 
 

	Today, there is no proof for or against Vijay Mallya asking him to pay back any money. There is no court order. Dispute is in the court. Court has not given any order. Everybody is saying 'pay back, pay back' but pay back what? For paying back, you need a court order...exactly how much to pay and all that. I think it's being badly handled," Pai told PTI. 
 

	Pai, co-founder of Aarin Capital, favoured requesting the Supreme Court to pass an order for negotiations with the liquor baron. 
 

	He noted that nobody has claimed that Mallya siphoned off money and indulged in money laundering till Enforcement Directorate (ED) went after him. 
 

	"Nobody knows what evidence ED has. None of the banks has found evidence, no body spoke about it. Now only ED is saying," said Pai, currently Chief Adviser to the Manipal Education and Medical Group. 
 

	He stressed the need for improving legal system in the country, noting that the case against Mallya was going on before DRT from the year 2013. 
 

	Pai said he was also against "naming and shaming" willful defaulters of bank loans. 
 

	"Once you lost money, there is no shame. Everybody knows you lost money, what is the shame? Shame is a middle class morality; shame is not there for business class or those who own business," he said. 
 

	"I don't think anybody's name should be made public. What should be done is: we need bankruptcy law to force them into bankruptcy, sell their assets and get back the money. Once there is bankruptcy law, they are forced into bankruptcy; it (their names) will automatically become public," Pai said

'Forcing Vijay Mallya to come back to India is bad strategy'

Beijing's decision, ending a decade of opposition, came after India stepped up diplomatic efforts to convince the Chinese government that Azhar should be labelled a terrorist following a deadly terror attack in the disputed territory of Kashmir in February. Following China's approval, the UN will issue a travel ban and arms embargo against Azhar. The move will also freeze his finances and assets. Jaish-e-Mohammad, also known as JeM, claimed responsibility for a suicide attack in Kashmir's Pulwama district which killed 40 Indian troops. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping "have developed a chemistry of trust with each other" since their meeting in Wuhan a year ago, said Madhav Nalapat, a professor of geopolitics at India's Manipal University. Beijing's approval of the UN sanctions "would be a win not for India or China but for the global war on terror", Nalapat said soon before Beijing's decision was announced. "Terrorists have neither a religion or a nationality, and should be opposed by all countries unitedly and in co-ordination." China, a permanent member of the Security Council, blocked the assembly's move to sanction Azhar in 2016 and 2017. India first proposed the sanctions in 2009. The US, France and Britain put forward the proposal again in March. China vetoed that motion, but placed a "technical hold" on the decision, citing the need for more time for a "comprehensive and thorough assessment". India's foreign secretary, Vijay Keshav Gokhale, visited China last week, where he shared evidence of terrorist activities of JeM and Azhar, and raised the issue of banning the group at the UN with China's foreign minister, Wang Yi. Ashutosh Sharma, Vice President and Research Director, Forrester, told IANS in July 2019 that AWS had the first-mover advantage, while Microsoft has the advantage of having more clients globally as well. "This is one of the key reasons why they hired Thomas Kurien (an Oracle veteran) to run their enterprise business. Google also suffers from a brand disadvantage when it comes to it being an enterprise IT vendor. They are considered providers of very niche services unlike AWS and Microsoft," Sharma told IANS.
