Markets regulator <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sebi" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Sebi" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Sebi">SEBI</keyword> has asked the <keyword id="20677983" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mutual-fund-industry" source="keywords">mutual fund industry</keyword> to proactively conduct stress tests, a key component of <keyword id="20383727" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="risk-management" source="keywords">risk management</keyword> for the financial sector, which will help strengthen the ecosystem, its whole-time member Ananth Narayan Gopalakrishnan said on Friday. The regulator's stress testing emphasizes the need to assess and manage liquidity risks, especially in small and midcap equity schemes. Speaking at a mutual fund event, Gopalakrishnan highlighted the importance of modelling stress scenarios not just for individual schemes or fund houses, but for the entire mutual fund ecosystem. "It is also important to model stress scenarios for the entire composite mutual fund ecosystem. I would strongly encourage the industry and <keyword id="20090036" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AMFI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="AMFI" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="AMFI">AMFI</keyword> to take the lead and proactively conduct objective and credible industry wide stress tests. themselves," Gopalakrishnan said. He also emphasized the need to find better ways to communicate the risks associated with different mutual fund schemes. The SEBI official mentioned that while the current risk measurement system is straightforward and has had a significant impact, it doesn't fully capture the differences in risks among various investment schemes. According to him, many schemes are just labelled as high risk, even though they have different kinds of risks. The goal is to improve this system to better reflect those differences, while keeping it simple and easy to understand. One possible approach is to consider the portfolio's volatility and liquidity from stress tests to give a clearer picture. "While ensuring simplicity and ease of understanding remains a key objective, perhaps the underlying volatility of the portfolio along with the liquidity of the portfolio from stress tests could be used to provide better colour all around," he added. This comes at a time when the holdings of mutual funds by <keyword id="20234284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-institutional-investors" source="keywords">Domestic Institutional Investors</keyword> (DIIs) and individuals have risen from about 54.3% of free float of all mid cap and small cap companies, as of March 2020 to 60.6% as of March 2024. Several fund houses have proactively stopped lump sum investments in some small-cap schemes and also capped the amount that can be invested through <keyword id="20675888" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="systematic-investment-plan" source="keywords">Systematic Investment Plan</keyword> (SIP) into small-cap schemes. He also highlighted the potential mismatch between the demand for paper and the supply of fresh paper coming into the ecosystem. Gopalakrishnan said the industry can make more progress in streamlining operations and improving efficiency for investors. "At a time when instantaneous fund transfers have become ubiquitous in our country, perhaps we should look to improve our internal processes and the security settlement ecosystem, to ensure that funds are passed on to investors on the day of the settlement itself, rather than a day after or two days after," he added. Over the last few years, the mutual fund industry has made impressive strides, and is now playing a crucial role in channeling financial savings towards risk capital formation. This was driven by stable macros, increased formalization, robust corporate earnings, digitisation and user friendly access. Moreover, the number of mutual fund investors has grown significantly from about 2 crore as of March 2019 to nearly 4.7 crore as of June 2024, an impressive compounded annual growth rate of 18% during that period. Gopalakrishnan mentioned that several exciting initiatives are in the works, developed with input from all stakeholders. These include a proposed low-ticket SIP, further breaking down regular SIPs into smaller, more accessible units (sachetisation and tokenization), and the introduction of "mutual funds lite" regulations. These new regulations will simplify rules for passively managed funds, reducing the compliance burden and encouraging competition and innovation. Additionally, a new class of higher-risk schemes is proposed for investors with a greater capacity to handle risk.

The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading higher by 0.28 per cent at 107.11. Rupee rises 7 paise to 84.22 against US dollar in early trade

Considering the oversold conditions in the mid- and small-cap segments, a short-term bounce can be expected in the markets, which may push the index higher, but the upside seems to be capped at 24,670". Rajesh Bhosale, equity technical analyst at Angel One, cautions traders against taking long positions until there are clear signs of a bullish reversal. "The midcap space, in particular, saw a sharp decline, breaking below key support levels, signaling more pain ahead—bottom-fishing in this sector should be avoided for now," he added. Investor wealth worth Rs 8.98 lakh crore was wiped off the markets today, with the BSE m-cap dipping from Rs 453.65 lakh crore yesterday to Rs 444.66 crore today. Broader mid- and small-cap indices saw their worst losses since August, riding on the back of disappointing earnings and cautious management guidance for the upcoming quarters. As such, hefty profit-booking ensued to make the most of still elevated valuations. <h2>FIIs on a heavy selling spree</h2> The massacre in the markets comes amidst heavy offloading of stakes by FIIs (<keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-institutional-investors" source="keywords">foreign institutional investors</keyword>). Data suggests so far this month, FIIs have offloaded a staggering Rs 82,479.73 crore in Indian markets. Data from NSDL suggests that during this period, FPIs had sold Rs 1,22,242 crore worth of assets in the Indian markets. Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, highlights that mid- and small-caps bore the brunt of earnings disappointments, as these are also the segments most stretched on many valuation metrics. "Growth slowdown concerns, along with uncertainty on rate cut timing, act as a double whammy for equity markets, especially after recent inflation data surprised sharply to the upside," he added. Looking ahead, the markets will continue to focus on the earnings announcements. Investors will look to the RBI's monetary policy meeting minutes tomorrow and the HSBC Manufacturing, Services, and Composite PMI data on Thursday for further signals to act upon.

His family lived on Pennypack Road after moving from Philadelphia to its neighboring suburbs when Schwarzman was a teenager. Magliano's LinkedIn profile says he has been the president of a family office since 2017.He spent more than 18 years with Blackstone, including as the CFO of its private-equity group, which runs its control investments in businesses, and as a managing director of Blackstone's tax group, which helps prepare its tax returns and studies the tax implications of business decisions. They are also named as officers of an LLC tied to Schwarzman's $100 million purchase of an estate named Conholt Park, which is about a 30-minute drive from Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England.<h2 id="665829e5-e31a-44d6-b0d6-9cfaacbcba9a">The staff</h2>A person with direct knowledge of Pennypack's operations told BI that Pennypack employed over 100 people in various roles, from executive assistants to the housekeepers who clean and maintain his homes.One employee on LinkedIn described their role at Pennypack as providing administrative support to "Mrs.," an apparent reference to Hearst Schwarzman. Listed duties included managing her personal projects and board and foundation endeavors, drafting emails, preparing her for speaking engagements, and tracking auctions for purchases.Another Pennypack employee described themself on LinkedIn as a housekeeper.A list of contractors obtained by BI shows that Pennypack has hired landscapers, ornamental plasterers, construction workers, and architects. "We just have to get everybody in the right position, running the right play, focused on the right thing, and I think we've got some work to do there."The pressure to perform is significant. On Wednesday, the company reported a loss of $6.1 billion for the third quarter. The same day, the machinists' union again rejected a company proposal that would have delivered a 35% pay increase over four years. According to one group of analysts, the strike has cost the company <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-strike-costing-50m-per-day-as-negotiations-restart-2024-10">$50 million a day</a>.Ortberg, in a letter released to employees along with the company's third-quarter results, said Boeing's customers want — and need — the company to succeed."With the right focus and culture, we can be an iconic company and aerospace leader once again," he wrote.The letter offered a reminder that Ortberg has to balance pressures from workers, investors, and Boeing's customers. In the case of the company's commercial business, which builds aircraft for airlines, that ultimately means the flying public.Bill George, the former CEO of medical device maker Medtronic and an executive fellow at Harvard Business School, told BI that Ortberg has to tackle short-term challenges like the worker strike and shoring up cash flow while also making "bold decisions" for the long term."He can't just do one or the other," George said.<h2 id="344697db-407e-4770-8539-290cb807cfc8">Restoring a culture of safety</h2>George said that while the company's commercial, defense, and space businesses each face challenges individually, the broader issue that needs prioritizing is restoring a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alaska-boeing-737-max-9-door-blowout-company-response-earnings-2024-1">culture of safety after high-profile failures</a>."That's the most important thing he's got to do, but that will take time," George said. He estimates fixing the culture and quality concerns might take three to five years and even longer to embed them deep within the company.George said Ortberg's background as an engineer — and not being a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-ceo-says-decision-resign-his-own-2024-3">finance type who previously ran the company</a> — should help on the communication front with many of the company's workers."They know if you know what you're talking about or not," George said. "If you don't, they don't have any confidence."He added Ortberg's decision to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-disaster-american-businesses-greedy-broken-stock-market-wall-street-2024-2">move to the Seattle area, unlike prior chiefs</a>, was wise. The company has deep roots there, particularly in its commercial business."You need to have the whole top team in Seattle and run it out of there," George said.<h2 id="aa7aebc2-c476-4c9a-bb7f-bef3296a434a">Rebuilding trust with employees</h2>Rosalind Franklin, a partner in the global leadership consulting practice at the executive search firm Boyden, told BI that to build trust and be most effective, Ortberg needs to sound a note that is "both vulnerable and yet strong" without being deceptive.She said that means being open about "the hurt" that the company's recent decision to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-layoffs-strike-777x-delay-freighter-2024-10">cut 10% of its workforce</a> will cause. Ortberg needs to "communicate honesty and acknowledge the fact that this is a really difficult time for the company," Franklin said."When you feel that the CEO is with you, and the CEO is feeling your pain, it makes it more tolerable and provides hope for the future," Franklin said.The need to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-business-execs-trending-insights-ai-worker-well-being-roundtable-2024-9">convey empathy</a> is greater than before the pandemic, she said, because many workers have come to expect more from their leaders.Franklin said that doesn't mean shying away from tough decisions."You can't give up what you know you need to do. It's not what you do, it's how you do it," she said.<h2 id="8c691d8b-13f0-4c1e-afad-b5a3768d68d2">Leading from the front</h2>Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, senior associate dean for leadership studies at Yale School of Management, told BI that "usually, the advice we would give someone is not to do too much too soon."In this case, he said, Ortberg doesn't have much choice but to try to fix the problems with labor, with the company's "precarious" financial situation, and with regulators' concerns.Sonnenfeld, who's also the founder of Yale's Chief Executive Leadership Institute, said the task before Ortberg is similar to those once faced by General Motors CEO Mary Barra and Alan Mulally, the former chief at Ford who once ran Boeing's commercial division.Like Boeing, Sonnenfeld said, both GM and Ford are complicated industrial businesses that sit prominently in the public eye. When the automakers' respective CEOs had to wrest their companies from crises, both made "really bold" public statements and were highly visible, he said."They banked a lot on the character of leadership and demonstrated it with accountability and visibility with really good follow-up," Sonnenfeld said.In his letter, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-corporate-culture-fix-executives-factory-floor-2024-10">Ortberg encouraged senior leaders</a> to close the distance between those in management and those closest to the manufacturing process. "We need to be on the factory floors, in the back shops and in our engineering labs," he wrote.That type of leadership "shows an accountability, shows an accessibility," Sonnenfeld said. "It shows a transparent and less formal style, and that's long past due."<h2 id="3996aed0-3075-47ab-98f6-3c71139b4c7c">A clear plan for the future</h2>George, the former Medtronic chief, said one step Ortberg could take to start restoring confidence and getting people excited about the future would be to announce a program for a new single-aisle aircraft redesigned from scratch."I think he must do that," George said.A new aircraft could leapfrog older designs that he said haven't kept pace with advances in jet engine and avionics in recent decades.Ortberg alluded to such a future in his letter. He wrote that the company has to fix its balance sheet "so that we do have a path to the next commercial aircraft."Richard Aboulafia, an aviation industry analyst who's a managing director at AeroDynamic Advisory, told BI that it's essential to talk about what's coming. He said Ortberg also needs to make clear that the planned job cuts won't compromise safety, add to delays in the company's defense business, or shortchange future product development."He has to reassure investors and everyone else that the situation is stable and also reassure the industry that they're prepared to invest in the future," Aboulafia said. "It's tough to thread that needle."

New Delhi [India], August 12 (ANI): <keyword id="19953789" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Madras" source="keywords">IIT Madras</keyword> has been ranked the <keyword id="19925221" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="best" source="keywords">best</keyword> <keyword id="22759867" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="higher-educational-institution" source="keywords">higher educational institution</keyword> in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay in an overall category in the ranking conducted by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The announcement was made on Monday by the Ministry of Education at an event at the Bharat Mandapam in the national capital that was presided by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Indian Institute of Technology Madras was ranked first in the <keyword id="22759868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NIRF-rankings" source="keywords">NIRF rankings</keyword> 2024 and it is the 6th time that it has bagged the top spot in NIRF ranking. IIT-Madras has also been ranked as the best engineering college for the past nine years. In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad and Bangalore and Calcutta are among the top five. Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) ranked as the best university in the country followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia. Delhi University's Hindu College ranked as the best college in the country followed by Miranda House College and St. Stephen's College. The Chennai-based institute retained the No 1 position in categories "overall and engineering" The NIRF rankings lists was released for 13 different categories, including universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has been accepted by the MoE and launched by Honourable Minister for Education on 29th September 2015. IIT Madras ranked best higher educational institution in India

The <keyword id="20340200" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="assets-under-management" source="keywords">Assets Under Management</keyword> (<keyword id="20019621" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AUM" source="keywords">AUM</keyword>) of <keyword id="20300870" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity-mutual-funds" source="keywords">equity mutual funds</keyword> have <keyword id="20641508" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="surged" source="keywords">surged</keyword> by 5.37 per cent sequentially to Rs 25,12,845.59 crore in July 2024 from Rs 23,84,727.69 crore in June 2024, <keyword id="22838645" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PL-Wealth-Management" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="PL Wealth Management" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="PL Wealth Management">PL Wealth Management</keyword> said in a statement. The observation, which is based on 283 open-ended equity diversified funds, cited that 39 per cent of these funds have outperformed their respective benchmarks over the past month, ending July 31st, 2024, The cumulative total of funds that outperformed stood at 109 during the month ending July 2024 (one month). AUM measures the total market value of assets that a person or entity manages for clients or on behalf of investors. Under the <keyword id="21184260" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="large-cap-funds" source="keywords">large-cap funds</keyword>, about 58 per cent of <keyword id="19915334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="schemes" source="keywords">schemes</keyword> outperformed on S&amp;P BSE 100 - TRI benchmark, out of 31 schemes observed by <keyword id="19999821" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prabhudas-Lilladher" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Prabhudas Lilladher" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Prabhudas Lilladher">Prabhudas Lilladher</keyword>'s wealth management arm. About 24 per cent of schemes outperformed under the large and mid-cap funds, of which 29 were observed. Under the multi-cap funds about 40 per cent of schemes outperformed, whereas in the flexi-cap funds, the percentage of schemes outperforming was 33 per cent. Going further, about 38 per cent of schemes under the midcap outperformed. Interestingly, the data observed that not a single scheme in small-cap funds manages to outperform their respective benchmarks. According to the observations made by L Wealth Management, Value Contra Div Yield Funds was the best-performing category, where 78 per cent of the schemes outperformed the benchmark. It was followed by schemes of large-cap funds and multi-cap funds, which outperformed their respective benchmarks by 58 per cent and 40 per cent respectively, during July 2024.
