Tata Tea Kanan Devan launches its Onam campaign to celebrate the festive spirit of Kerala

Pune, May 26 () Battling shortage of healthcare workers, authorities in Maharashtra's Pune district, which falls in red zone, are now trying to rope in nurses from Kerala who recently returned from Gulf countries. Authorities have been holding meetings with Malyali organisations to reach out to the nurses from the southern state. In view of the spike in coronavirus cases, many nurses from Kerala employed in Pune have returned to their home state. Pune Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said he held a meeting with a couple of Malayali community organisations and discussed the issue of the nurses leaving for Kerala and appointing trained nurses who have returned to the southern state from the Gulf. "We appealed the proactive and prominent community members to make an appeal to the nurses from the Kerala not to leave. Our efforts will be to discourage them from going back as we will give them all the personal safety in terms of providing PPEs and other protective gears. Kochi, Jun 17 () A 51-year-old man, who was battling for life after being infected by coronavirus has recovered after undergoing convalescent plasma therapy at a government hospital in Thrissur, in a first such instance in Kerala using the experimental medical technique. The beneficiary, who had been on ventilator for almost a week was taken off the support after a team of doctors administered the plasma of a person cured of the disease. The man is now recuperating in the ICU, doctors said. The therapy involves separation of anti bodies from a person cured of coronavirus and its subsequent infusion into the COVID-19 patient in a critical condition. Performed as a medical emergency, the technique was used at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Thrissur. The benefactor was a Delhi-returned Malayali. He tested positive for COVID-19 on June 6 and faced acute respiratory complications five days later, warranting the use of a ventilator. On June 11 night, the patient underwent the convalescent plasma collection therapy that lasted till day break. "The procedure requires volunteers who have recovered from COVID-19 and are above the age of 18. They can donate plasma, the yellowish liquid component of the blood, between the first and fourth months after cure," said M A Andrews, Principal of GMC in a statement issued by National Health Mission's Arogya Keralam. The therapy has proven its potential and given the COVID-19 patient a fresh lease of life, the doctor said. Convalescent plasma therapy relies on an apparatus called apheresis that separates the plasma from the donor's blood. Unlike the usual blood donation, the remainder here returns to the donor's circulation. "In one go, we take 400 grams of plasma. And transfuse it into the COVID-19 patient in two phases of 200 grams each," Andrews said. "The therapy has absolutely no side effects," he added. TGB ROH ROH

Within minutes, the site faced technical issues, prompting the missions to delete the tweet about it and repost it hours later.In a tweet posted in the wee hours of Thursday, the Indian Consulate asked applicants "to bear with it if it takes time for the page to load due to high traffic.""As of 5pm on Thursday, we received more than 32,000 registrations," Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul told the Gulf News.Vipul said the technical issues took place because of the huge rush of people trying to access the webpage on the Consulate's site for registration.Though the mission is yet to analyse the data to know the "compelling reasons" for the applicants to travel home, Vipul said the applications comprise various emergency cases including that of pregnant women."We understand that people want to go home for various reasons. People should be ready for travel by keeping in mind the overall restrictions on travel given the pandemic situation. Those who wish to go urgently should keep trying to register on the website in the next few days," he said.He said the registration would be open for some days and the data collected by the Indian missions in various countries would be provided to Indian states for making preparations for their travel. The Consul General reiterated that the registration in the databank does not guarantee a seat on the initial flights that would be arranged to repatriate the most deserving categories of people. "Workers in acute distress, medical cases, pregnant women, the elderly and the group of Indians stranded in Dubai Airport," are likely to get first priority when the government resumes services for repatriation, he said. Since there is no guidance from the Indian government on the conditions for travelling, he said, it is not yet clear how the COVID-19 status of an applicant would impact the journey. When asked about media reports that said 500 Air India flights and three warships of the Indian Navy are on standby for evacuating stranded Indians abroad, Vipul said he had no knowledge about warships being readied for the process. "I am sure Air India will be involved. I have no information about the warships," he said.Meanwhile, the government of Kerala on Thursday said the total number of registrations it received from Malayalis living in 201 countries has reached 3,53,468.The Consul General urged Keralites in the UAE, who have already registered with Norka (The Non Resident Keralites Affairs), to also register with the missions since it would help the central government to make arrangements for flight operations. Coronavirus: Over 32,000 Indians in UAE register to return home

As per a reply to an RTI inquiry, filed by advocate Aman Panwar of the Congress party, India’s common man party, the <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword>, is spending Rs. 16 lakh per day on advertising in the print media. 
 
Over the last 91 days, AAP party that forms the Delhi government, has spent Rs. 14.45 crore on print media advertising, including three Malayali and one Kannada newspaper, which is popular in Kerala and Karnataka. 
 
When enquired about the same, the government replied that all these advertisements were aimed at spreading awareness about public policies. 
 
AAP has even admitted that it spent around Rs. 5 crore for publicising the two rounds of the odd-even scheme, which were implemented for 15 days, once in January and later in April. 
 
The Congress party, to which Aman Panwar belongs, has itself been criticised for spending Rs. 23 crore in 2010 during the Commonwealth Games, when Sheila Dikshit was in power. 
 
Congress has also filed a court case, accusing AAP of spending a major chunk of the advertising money only because it completed a year in power. The petition also said that a large number of these advertisements were published across India, which makes no sense since it’s a city government.
