Since the interest amount of this scheme for a maximum of ₹2 lakh investment for two years does not exceed ₹40,000, TDS is not deducted from the interest received. <keyword id="19900881" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="keywords">Delhi</keyword>'s finance minister Atishi presented the FY25 budget in the state assembly on Monday with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore, announcing the 'Mukhyamamantri Mahila <keyword id="20820458" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samman-yojana" source="keywords">Samman Yojana</keyword>' under which women aged 18 and above will get Rs 1,000 per month, and asserted the government is inspired by the ideals of <keyword id="20017410" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram-rajya" source="keywords">Ram Rajya</keyword>. In the budget tabled in the state assembly ahead of the general elections, she also announced that the Business Blasters scheme, which was till now being implemented in schools, will now be implemented in universities and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Last year, the government had allocated Rs 78,800 crore for the financial year 2023-24 and announced nine schemes as part of the G20 preparations. The Delhi government's budget size for 2022-23 was Rs 75,800 crore and Rs 69,000 crore in the preceding year. This was the first time that Atishi presented the budget after taking charge of the finance department last year. Under the education budget, Rs 100 crore has been allocated to the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) for training teachers, and another Rs 150 crore has been proposed for the construction of new schools and classrooms. She proposed Rs 45 crore for the maintenance of existing classrooms and Rs 42 crore for Schools of Specialised Excellence in the 2024-25 fiscal. The minister announced an allocation of Rs 118 crore for sports education, Rs 1,212 crore for higher education and technical education and Rs 15 crore for "Business Blasters Senior". "The Kejriwal government will implement Business Blaster scheme in its universities and Industrial Training Institutes through Rs 15 crore allocation in budget," she added. The government announced a budget of Rs 8,685 crore for the health sector with Rs 6,215 crore being proposed for hospitals to maintain good facilities. "Under the Delhi government, there are 38 hospitals where treatment is provided free of cost to more than 81,000 OPD patients daily and 65,806 IPD patients monthly," she said. OPD stands for out-patient department, while in-patients department is referred as IPD. There are 530 Mohalla Clinics in Delhi currently, where every day, 64,000 people receive free medicines, tests, and treatment. So far, Mohalla Clinics have conducted more than seven crore OPD visits, she said. 'Farishtey Dilli Ke' scheme has saved the lives of 22,000 people, she shared. The minister announced a budget outlay of Rs 6,216 crore for various schemes under the Social Welfare Department, Women and Child Development Department and SC/ST/OBC Welfare Department. The government announced an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore for the 'Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman <keyword id="19955331" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yojana" source="keywords">Yojana</keyword>' for the welfare and empowerment of women from 2024-25. Under this scheme, woman above 18 years of age will get Rs 1,000 per month, she said. For a woman to become eligible under the scheme, she should be a Delhi voter, should not be availing benefits under any other government scheme and should not be an income taxpayer, she said. According to the final electoral roll of Delhi published in January this year, there are 67,30,371 female voters in the national capital. Atishi announced an allocation of Rs 664 crore for all nutrition-related schemes. In 2014-15, the budget for law and justice was Rs 760 crore, she said. "I am delighted to share that by 2024-25, it has increased by nearly four-fold to reach Rs 3,098 crore," she said. The minister announced that in 2024-25, the Delhi government will begin the construction of four court complexes in Rohini, Karkardooma, Shastri Park, and Rouse Avenue. "These will include courtrooms, lawyer chambers, libraries, and modern facilities, totalling 250 new courtrooms. The number of people receiving free legal services through the Delhi State Legal Services Authority was 33,000 in 2016. Last year, this figure increased nearly four-fold, reaching 1.25 lakh," she shared. The finance minister announced an allocation of Rs 902 crore for unauthorised colonies. Talking about the transport sector, she said that Delhi will have over 10,000 buses in its fleet, including 80 per cent electric buses. She announced Rs 7,195 crore for the Delhi Jal Board, Rs 510 crore for induction of electric buses in DTC and cluster buses fleet and Rs 500 crore for Delhi Metro. Delhi govt presents FY25 budget with ₹76,000 crore outlay; to give ₹1,000 per month to every woman

According to him, the increase in the purchasing capability of the middle class will push the demands of the products and this will positively impact the economy of the nation. "Of course there is an expression of shooting up of the inflation slightly because of this increase in the purchasing capacity of the middle class. However, considering the multiple positive aspects of the tax rate revision, in my opinion, that threat will not impact the economy in a major way," <keyword id="4757" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ghosh" source="Orion">Ghosh</keyword> said. He also said that the income tax exemption will also indirectly help the banking sector on the deposits side. "Excess money in hand will prompt people to go for additional savings and this will improve the deposit side of the banks which is in a difficult shape now," the Bandhan Bank MD &amp; CEO said. He was especially enthusiastic about the new "Mahila Samman Saving Certificate", that will allow women a maximum deposit of up to Rs 2,00,000 having a maximum interest of 7.5 per cent for two years till March 2025. "This will definitely drive women towards savings and in my opinion this scheme is extremely innovative," he said. He also pointed out that Fiance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword>, in her budget speech, stressed on infrastructure development as well as development of the MSME and start-up sectors. "This is a positive step towards employment generation, since whenever there is infrastructure development there is opportunity for employment generation. Tax rate revision will increase purchasing power of middle class: Bandhan Bank CEO

New Delhi, <keyword id="25455" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="finance" source="Orion">Finance</keyword> Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> on Saturday said the public sector banks' profit in the last nine years has tripled to Rs 1.04 lakh crore due to initiatives taken by the government and underlined the need for continuing the momentum to fuel the economy. The net profit of public sector banks (PSBs) has almost tripled to Rs 1.04 lakh crore in FY23 from Rs 36,270 crore in FY2014. Inaugurating the corporate office of <keyword id="172709" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="punjab-and-sind-bank" source="Orion">Punjab and Sind Bank</keyword> here, the minister said that banks need to "build on laurels" by following the best corporate governance principles. "Banks should not sit back and revel in success. They should follow best corporate governance practices, adhere to regulatory norms, ensure prudent liquidity management, and continue to focus on having robust asset-liability and risk management," she said, stressing that the Indian economy has moved away from the 'twin balance sheet problem' to 'twin balance sheet advantage'. The finance minister said that there was a time when the Indian economy faced the problem of twin balance sheets -- stress on the balance sheets of banks and corporate at the same time. Before the Modi government came to power in 2014, difficulty in the Indian banking system actually started because of irrational 'Phone Banking', which happened during the tenure of the UPA government, she said. Back then, Sitharaman said, the priority in lending was given to not-so-worthy customers in an unprofessional manner. As a result, they became NPAs (non-performing assets). "As a result (of various initiatives of the government), I am glad to say the problems of twin balance sheets have gone away," she said, adding that as per the Reserve Bank of India, it is a twin balance sheet advantage that is benefiting the Indian economy. Observing that combined profits of the public sector banks tripled to Rs 1.04 lakh crore in 2022-23 against Rs 36,270 crore in FY14, Sitharaman said the banks "need to build on laurels". "At this stage, it is our duty towards the people of India to ensure that the banks can build on the strength and not lose this momentum that we have achieved," the minister noted. She said that the performance of the public sector banks has improved on account of various initiatives taken by the Modi government since 2014. There was an improvement in all critical parameters like return on asset, net interest margin and provisioning coverage ratio, she added. The 4R strategy followed by the Modi government to revitalise the state-owned banks has yielded results, she said. The 4R strategy refers to recognising the problem of non-performing assets, recapitalising the banks, resolving their problems, and reforming them. Further, Sitharaman said the banks should endeavour to adopt a proactive approach in reaching out to people to achieve optimum utilisation of financial inclusion schemes. There should be a focus on credit outreach in states where the credit offtake is lower than the national average, particularly in the northeast and eastern parts of the country, she said, adding they must aim to increase brick-and-mortar banking presence in border areas, particularly in those covered in the Vibrant Village programme. The bank should also promote the Mahila Samman Bachat Patra announced in the Budget 2023-24 through special drives and campaigns, she said. They must ensure that the entire Priority Sector Lending (PSL) target is met and not transferred to RIDF (Rural Infrastructure Development Fund), she added. She urged banks to focus on improving digital infrastructure with a focus on artificial intelligence and use this to the maximum so that efficiency increases. However, she cautioned that banks should ensure digital safety and there should be enough firewalls. The minister also recalled the story of the Punjab and Sind Bank, which had suffered due to partition in 1947. Only two of the ten branches remained in India, while the rest went to Pakistan. Starting from just two branches in 1947, the Punjab and Sind Bank has 1,553 branches, and the 1,554th at Karimganj in Assam was inaugurated remotely by the minister on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat <keyword id="12139871" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kishanrao-karad" source="Orion">Kishanrao Karad</keyword> also appreciated the bank for its various initiatives to transfer the bank to a future-ready <keyword id="17873797" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="techno-savvy-bank" source="Orion">Techno Savvy Bank</keyword> and how the bank over the years has transformed itself gradually with the latest products and services. The government also said it will increase its capital outlay by 33% to ₹10 lakh crore in FY24 – that’s 3.3% of GDP. The allocation to PM Awas Yojana was also enhanced by 66% to ₹79,000 crore. She also allocated ₹15,000 crore over three years to the Schedule Tribe Mission. The FM also allocated ₹35,000 crore as energy transition investment. She also said that FY23 fiscal deficit at 6.4%, adheres to budget estimates. She fixed FY24 fiscal deficit target at 5.9%. India is heading towards a bright future despite challenges, as she delivered her fifth budget in the parliament. She identified seven priorities for the budget — inclusive growth, reaching the last mile (digital public infra for agriculture), infrastructure and investment, unleashing potential, green growth, youth power, and financial sector. “Three things will be in focus – ample opportunities for citizens to youth to fulfill growth, strong impetus to growth and job creation and strengthening macro economic stability,” Sitharaman said. She extended the benefit of standard deduction to the new tax regime.
