G20 leaders pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

Dr. Renil Manat is on the top of the world as his long-time associate and family friend, Dr. <keyword id="15170344" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="morten-meldal" source="Orion">Morten Meldal</keyword> has won the <keyword id="520296" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nobel-Prize-for-Chemistry" source="Orion">Nobel Prize for Chemistry</keyword>. Manat has a Ph.D. in <keyword id="6371068" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chemistry" source="Orion">Chemistry</keyword> from <keyword id="166591" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mahatma-gandhi-university" source="Orion">Mahatma Gandhi University</keyword>, Kerala under Dr. V.N. Rajashekaran Pillai, a former Chairman of University Grants Commission. The Keralite who has roots in Kozhikode and Thalassery, while speaking to IANS from Copenhagen, Denmark over the telephone, said, "It's really a happy moment of Dr. Morten <keyword id="15172635" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="meldal" source="Orion">Meldal</keyword> winning the Nobel prize for Chemistry with two others. I am associated with Dr. Morten Meldal for several years and it was in fact his invitation that brought me to Denmark." Manat said that he and his family were at Meldal's home for breakfast on Sunday. He said that Copenhagen is a hub of research in Biotechnology and Chemistry, adding that several Indian IT companies have also now set foot in Denmark. Manat did his Chemistry graduation from Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode, and his Post Graduation from S.N. College, Kollam followed by Ph.D. from Mahatma Gandhi University under the guidance of Prof V.N. Rajashekhara Pillai. Manat is now with Carlsberg Research Laboratory (CRL) and is associated with Meldal being invited by him to join his team in CRL along with a few other scientists. The Indian-born scientist speaks highly of Meldal and said that the Nobel Prize winner has been a major support base for him ever since he landed in Copenhagen. Manat's wife Chandini Renil is a pedagogue at European School in Copenhagen while Meldal's wife Phaedria is an entrepreneur and the family enjoys a warm relationship. Meldal had in between opened a biotech company where Manat was also associating. However, due to some licensing issues, it has to be shut down and Manat joined back in CRL while Meldel joined the University of Copenhagen. Meldel and Manat had developed a biodegradable packing material in 2008 and the patent for this is with the CLR. Manat is now working on innovative beer flavours and some of them are based on ayurvedic herbs. The Kerala-based scientist also said that there are chances of Meldel would come to Kerala to attend the Kerala Science Congress which is to be held in January 2023. National Simplicity Day, the birth anniversary of the man who influenced Gandhi and Martin Luther King

Believe it or not, the world’s most infamous terrorist <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=osama+bin+laden">Osama Bin Laden</a> was inspired by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahatma+Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</a> – a preacher of peace. Honestly, you don't often mention those two names in a single sentence! 
 While you might find it hard to believe, <keyword id="41240" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Osama-bin-Laden">Osama Bin Laden</keyword> in a speech from 1993 elicited <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword>’s methods of peaceful protest by asking his supporters to boycott American goods. 
 
"Consider the case of Great Britain, an empire so vast that some say the sun never set on it," says Bin Laden. 
 
"Britain was forced to withdraw from one of its largest colonies when Gandhi the Hindu declared a boycott against their goods. We must do the same thing today with America," he says. 
 
According to the tapes Osama makes no mention of violence till 1996. 
 This shocking revelation came after <keyword id="56545" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="US-invasion">US invasion</keyword> of <keyword id="6354541" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="afghanistan">Afghanistan</keyword> in 2001. Osama had to flee Kandahar and several buildings were quickly vacated, including one opposite the Taliban foreign ministry where 1,500 such cassettes were found. This huge depot passed from an Afghan family to a cassette shop to a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CNN">CNN</a> cameraman and finally to the Afghan Media Project at Williams College in Massachusetts. They asked Flagg Miller, an expert in Arabic literature and culture from the University of California to interpret them. 
 After almost a decade, Miller has written a book about his shocking findings, titled '<keyword id="3005199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="The-Audacious-Ascetic">The Audacious Ascetic</keyword>'. The collection he was handed had records that date back to the late 1960s, and feature more than 200 different speakers, including Osama. 
 Osama was killed in Pakistan’s <keyword id="635958" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Abbottabad">Abbottabad</keyword> on May 2nd, 2011 in a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=US+Navy+SEALS">US Navy SEALS</a> raid.

Osama Bin Laden was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi

The immediate priority of finance minister of India is to improve GDP growth and employment rates while keeping the targets of fiscal consolidation (3.5% of GDP in 2016-17) under control. Based on past few quarters’ results of corporate sector, we see demand hasn’t yet picked up. One of the main reasons is lack of rural demand, low rise in urban consumption and high food inflation. Based on this we think our finance minister should focus on sectors which could have a large scale impact to revive the <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="economy">economy</keyword> while providing enough employment to receive the benefits of India’s demographic dividend. These sectors include Agriculture, Infrastructure and Healthcare sector. 
 
1. Agriculture &amp; Rural economy 
Indian Agriculture sectors contributes around 17% to overall GDP, however, 49% of India's workforce is dependent on it. Overall GDP growth rate is round 7.5% while Agri-growth stutters around 1.7% (Down from 4% AGR in 11th Plan). Drought in last two years has made the situation worse by pushing marginalised farmers and agricultural labourers to the brink, leading to massive agrarian distress. 
 · The <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword> National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has been successful in providing employment to India’s rural poor and improve their livelihoods. A study NCAER found that the MGNREGS “has reduced poverty overall by up to 32% and has prevented 14 million people from falling into poverty.” Budget allocated should be increased to Rs. 40,000 cr from current allocation of Rs.34, 699 cr as the current allocation is not sufficient to cover the increased demand. Govt. needs to make it demand-driven programme i.e. allocating resources to states and districts based on poverty level &amp; exposure to drought. Making state &amp; local bodies accountable by monitoring KPIs (Employment level, Assets etc). 
 
· Reliable, faster and effective rural electrification by investing &amp; promoting renewable energy sources (bio-gas, solar, wind etc.) under an integrated rural electrification framework. 
 · Crop insurance schemes in India covers merely 23% of farmers. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna (PMFBY) needs to employ technology and innovation in crop insurance by assessing farm-level damage through satellites &amp; drones, linking farmer’s farm to Aadhar number and transferring the amount directly to account. Out of total sown area of 141 million hectare only 45% (65 million hectare) is covered under irrigation. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY), launched in 2015, needs to achieve convergence of <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> by Integration of water source, distribution and farm level applications. Using MSP as insurance mechanism rather than structural tool. 
 
· National Agriculture Market instead of current Mandi system, which suffers from cartelization of intermediaries’ problem, to enable farmers to discover the true price of their product. 
 
2. Infrastructure Sector Investment in infrastructure must give a boost to rail, road, irrigation and ports. Infrastructure has a high multiplier effect and goes a long way in creating sustainable GDP growth. Ports will help boost up trade and rail &amp;road will push activity within the country. Sufficient funds to be allocation to meet NHAI target of 30km/day. <keyword id="547488" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-incentives">Tax incentives</keyword> for multi cargo ports with handling capacity of more than 100 MTPA will boost India’s exports. Withdrawal of minimum alternate tax in a calibrated manner must be done. Government should privatize managing of smaller airports and modernization of atleast 400 railway stations should be done in next year. Further atleast 30GW of renewable energy capacity can be established majorly through wind and solar. Accelerated depreciation benefit should be extended to wind sector apart from solar. 
 
3. Healthcare Sector 
In healthcare government should increase allocation to public healthcare by increasing it to 2% of GDP from current 1%. There must be tax holidays given to the pharma sector and the sunset clause on weighted deductions must be extended as India has the potential to become pharmacy of the world. These deductions on R&amp;D will go a long way on propelling innovation in pharma. Universal health insurance should be carried out through Jan Dhan-Aadhar-Mobile which will benefit patients and increase access thus helps us materialize our demographic dividend.

Hailing from a family of sports persons, Anisha chose sports as her career when she was only ten. She says, ““I decided I was going to be an athlete when I was ten. And after playing multiple sports at various levels, I knew golf was the one I would play for the rest of my life. This young woman has shown great potential and hopes to follow in the footsteps of her idol and coach and believes there are no shortcuts to success. She says, “There are no shortcuts.
