The Directorate of Technical Education(DTE), <keyword id="13126" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword> has announced that the document verification process for admission to engineering colleges this year will commence today i.e. on 19 June 2019. However, the verification for other processes including B.Arch, B.Pharma has been extended to 22 June 2019. The applicants can check the official website mahacet.org for the details on the verification process. The State Common Entrance Test Cell will relaese the provisional merit list for 2019 candidates. The DTE conducts a common admission process for technical courses in the state universities and institutions. The provisional merit list for all the candidates will be uploaded on the website on 22 June. While the final merit list is expected on 25 June 2019. The allotment list will be out on 30 June 2019, according to the official website. The academic session is likely to begin on 1 August.

<ul><li>The <keyword id="56459" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-Grants-Commission">University Grants Commission</keyword> released a list of 23 ‘fake universities’ in India. </li><li>Of the total 23 universities, 14 have been on the <keyword id="44171" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="UGC">UGC</keyword>’s list from 2005 — including Commercial University, United Nations University, Vocational University among others. </li><li>Despite that, several universities have also claimed on their websites that they are approved by the UGC.</li></ul>This admission season, the University Grants Commission is providing a much-needed reality check to prospective students and their parents. It released a list of <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/education/ugc-releases-fake-universities-list-up-delhi-has-the-most-ugc-ac-in-5845473/">23 ‘fake universities’</a>. Unfortunately, they are all functional, though unrecognised under the UGC Act. Most of such universities are from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. These include Vishwakarma Open University for Self-Employment, Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, Delhi and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University. This is not the first time that these colleges have featured in the UGC’s annual list of fake universities. Of the total 23 universities, 14 have been on the <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/ugc-fake-university-notice-14-out-of-23-on-list-since-2005/article28691632.ece">UGC’s list from 2005</a> — including Commercial University, United Nations University, Vocational University and ADR-Centric Juridical University in Delhi. In fact, the United Nations University, Vocational University, Commercial University appeared in the list of fake universities last year too. Several of these universities continue to claim that they are approved by the UGC on their websites. Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society, Karnataka, St. John's University, Kerala and Raja Arabic University, Maharashtra have been operational since 2005, despite the UGC’s checklist. The University Grants Commission set up an anti-malpractice cell in 1995 to register complaints on established fake universities. While the board has filed FIRs against several institutions, many of them are still operational. In fact, some professors who reviewed the questions meant for high school students in India, said that these topics are taught at university level in Australia. The entrance examination is taken by the students to get admission in India’s premier engineering institutions such as Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and National Institute of Technology (NITs). NEET-JEE 2020: Mamata Banerjee, Sonia Gandhi and other opposition leaders may approach the Supreme Court to challenge Centre’s decision

By Rupesh Dutta New Delhi, Apr 14 () As the coronavirus pandemic has brought various sectors to a grinding halt, students preparing for various entrance examinations are switching to online coaching portals which have remained immune to the nationwide lockdown. While all exams scheduled in the months of April and May have been postponed indefinitely by the National Testing Agency, coaching institutes in cities across India are shut. Irrespective of the fees that many had paid to the centres before the lockdown came in force, students are struggling to keep up with their studies and have no choice but to shift to online classes so as to not waste crucial time. Pranav Thanki, a student from Porbandar in Gujarat, had, in January, shifted 200 km away to Surat to pursue medical coaching. However, the coaching centres closed down in March. "I don't think it is just me who is benefitting from online coaching… it has emerged as a saviour for many at the right time. During such trying times, online coaching for medical and engineering exams is the need of the hour," Thanki told from Porbandar. Several other students from different parts of the country echoed the same sentiment. "My simple question is why do many of the conventional coaching centres do not have online teaching system. This lockdown hampered our education but online coaching option has come to our rescue," Sanchita Rai from Lucknow told . Educational experts from both conventional and online coaching platforms said a paradigm shift from brick and mortar classrooms to virtual ones was in the offing much before the COVID-19 outbreak but the subsequent lockdown is expected to speed up the switchover. "While it seems like online (learning) is the only option for at least the next 3-4 months, a lot of these students would have to come to terms with the changed reality," Kapil Gupta, the founder and CEO of NEETprep, a leading pan India online coaching centre, told . According to him once a student is enrolled in an online coaching centre such as NEETprep, he/she will never miss face-to-face classroom coaching. "A lot of new adopters, especially those who have to switch from classroom coaching to online coaching, would have to design their days to ensure self-discipline and consistency of studies," he said. "In this 21-day lockdown, this, ironically, might actually not be too difficult considering there is no outside activity like going out for a movie or with friends. And who knows, how many of these students who switch now will ever go back to classroom coaching," he added. Col Anil Dhall, a well-known cardiologist and currently serving as the Professor and head of the Department of Cardiology at Janakpuri Superspecialty Hospital and a close observer of medical education dynamics, said gradually all the conventional coaching centres will have to offer online coaching if they want to survive. "Situations like lockdown are boosters to a paradigm shift. Time saving, extensive content, and wider availability of faculty drives students towards online coaching. Instead of saying that conventional coaching will die, the situation will push them to transform into online coaching providers, where a lockdown kind of a thing won't impact the students," Dhall told . Akhand Swaroop Pandit, CEO and co-founder of Catalyst Group, an online learning platform, believes like most industry segments needing physical infrastructure and presence, lockdown has had a negative effect on conventional offline coaching centres and this is where online course providers will gain. "Conventional coaching is suffering as they have to bear direct costs such as rentals with no means to earn revenue with admissions being closed. On the other hand, students are preferring online classes during lockdown which they can attend as per their convenience," he told . "Subscription rates have seen a spike. This incident would definitely encourage the industry to strengthen the online coaching ecosystem for future, leading to greater penetration of our services," he added. Narendra Shyamsukha, founder and chairman of ICA Edu Skills, said most conventional coaching institutes have also come up with e-learning options and are engaging their students with online study materials, assignments and webinars. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Class Owners Association (MCOA) that has nearly 1 lakh tutorials under its ambit, has urged the government to grant certain relaxations in taxes and other charges over the next few days as the lockdown has affected thee attendance and revenue of coaching classes in the state. Hit by lockdown, online coaching comes to rescue of competitive exams aspirants

Delhi boy <keyword id="3439623" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepanshu-Jindal">Deepanshu Jindal</keyword>, the topper of the prestigious <keyword id="1665948" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-JEE-Main">IIT-JEE Main</keyword> this year, says he wants to pursue higher education after graduation from IIT Delhi, and ultimately become an entrepreneur. 
 
"I want to pursue Computer Science Engineering from IIT Delhi. I am quite interested in Research and Development and would want to do entrepreneurship in R&amp;D," says Jindal. 
 
A student of SB Public School in the national capital, this lad took his<a href="http://www.pagalguy.com/articles/jee-main-2016-topper-deepanshu-jindal-chooses-iit-delhi-over-44532308"> IIT Coaching from Narayana IIT Academy</a>. 
 
You may be thinking he must have not taken his eyes of books, but Jindal says that's not been the case with him. He is a keen sports fan who plays cricket and football regularly to take the much-needed break from his hectic schedule. Apart from sports, Jindal also likes social networking and is quite active on Facebook, Google+ and WhatsApp. 
 He has secured 111 in Physics, 110 in Maths and 100 in chemistry in JEE Main, and 98.6% in Class 12 CBSE because of which his rank jumped from 20 to 1 after the normalisation process. Meanwhile, Pratyush Maini from Gurgaon has secured the second position, and <keyword id="1033212" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajesh-Bansal">Rajesh Bansal</keyword> of <keyword id="195874" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanskriti-School">Sanskriti School</keyword> stood third. 
 
The rank List, uploaded at <a href="http://jeemain.nic.in/webinfo/Public/Home.aspx">http://jeemain.nic.in/webinfo/Public/Home.aspx</a> shows that boys have dominated the list of toppers. Of the top 1,000 positions, 853 have been secured by boys and 147 by girls. Ryali Gayathri from Telangana has emerged on the top among girls, securing the 11th rank. 
 The <keyword id="3439624" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="All-India-Rankings">All India Rankings</keyword> are based on their JEE Main score (60 per cent weightage) and Class 12 scores (40 per cent weightage). Admissions to BE and B Tech courses in engineering institutions like NITs, IIITs are made on the basis of these rankings. 
 
Meanwhile, in another significant move for admission to the IITs - for which scores in IIT (Advanced) exam is the basis, the first list of allocation of seats for IITs will be released on July 1. 
 
Among boards, CBSE students have done well, getting 12 of the top 20 ranks. States boards like Telangana (6 of the top 20 positions), Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra too find students among toppers. 
 Around 11.28 lakh students had appeared for the <keyword id="75235" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-JEE">IIT JEE</keyword> Main exam, officials said, adding, results were announced a week in advance as compared to last year.

IIT-JEE topper says he knows he wants to become an entrepreneur

<keyword id="4046372" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="avidipto-chakraborty">Avidipto Chakraborty</keyword> from Mumbai not only cracked the CAT examination in his first attempt itself, he emerges as this year's topper. Almost 20 students including him have scored 100 percentile in CAT exams this time. 
 
This BITS-Pilani student attributed his success to the number of mock tests he had taken while preparing for the test. 
 
“I completely relied on self-studies and did not take get enrolled in any coaching centres,” The Indian Express quoted Chakraborty, who is working with a private finance services company as an intern. 
 
“I took 86 mock tests for preparation and trusted almost 90 per cent on the analysis,” he said. 
 He kept the balance between his studies and CAT preparation by utilising his free time during weekends. He would attempt three mock tests in two days to gain confidence. This young lad now sees his future in entrepreneurship and aspires to pursue MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad, but not too soon. In his final year, Chakraborty got an offer from his dream company — <keyword id="574638" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="McKinsey-Company">McKinsey &amp; Company</keyword>. 
 
“I may opt for the deferred admission policy and will join the Indian Institute of Management later. I wish to become a consultant,” he said. 
 Meanwhile, Unlike Chakraborty, another topper Yash Choudhari has decided to turn down his job offer if he makes it to <keyword id="19483" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-ahmedabad">IIM Ahmedabad</keyword> or IIM Bangalore. He hails from <keyword id="49077" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolhapur">Kolhapur</keyword> in Maharashtra. 
 
For this fourth year B-Tech student from College of Engineering in Pune, securing a 100 percentile in CAT in his first attempt wasn't a surprising moment. 
 
"I had been preparing for the exam for 7-8 months, and I was expecting a 100 percentile," he said. While solving test series and mocks for the CAT, Choudhari said he would always score the highest in Quant, while Verbal was his weakest area. Ironically, he secured the highest score in the Verbal section, and second highest in Quant. 
 
His word of advice to CAT aspirants is - “No matter how much ever you prepare, CAT will always be a step ahead of you. There is always an element of surprise. Do not try to solve all the questions in a set. It is sheer waste of time." 
 
He concluded saying - "A smart student would know which section is tougher than the previous years' papers. So, don't waste your time. Solve what you know and move ahead..."
