<keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">Farmers</keyword> protesting against the three Central farm <keyword id="72809" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Laws">laws</keyword> have announced a series of Mahapanchayats in March as the stalemate between the farmers and the <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> continues over the <keyword id="21735" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="withdrawal">withdrawal</keyword> of the laws. The <keyword id="65264" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Kisan-Union">Bharatiya Kisan Union</keyword> (BKU) has released the list of Mahapanchayats to be held from February 28 to March 22 in various parts of the country. BKU leader Rakesh Tikait will be attending all the 'Mahapanchayats' starting from February 28 at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. In March, Mahapanchayats will be organised in Rudrapur in Uttarakhand on March 1, in Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan on March 2, in Nagaur on March 3, in Etawah on March 5 and in Telangana on March 6. After this, Tikait will be attending a programme at Ghazipur on March 7 and the reach Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh on March 8. On March 10, a <keyword id="391168" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahapanchayat">Mahapanchayat</keyword> will organised in Ballia in UP while in Jodhpur on March 12, in Rewa (MP) on March 14 and three Mahapanchayats in Karnataka on March 20, 21 and 22. The farmers have announced the series of Mahapanchayats with an aim to intensify their agitation against the contentious farm laws. The 11 rounds of talks between the farmers and the government have been inconclusive as the farmers are adamant on their demand of withdrawal of the laws. When asked that if the farmers will not hold the discussion then how will this stalemate end and the public will continue to face the problems because of the protest, Tikait said, "We are ready for the discussion. We have even sent messages regarding our issues but the government has not replied to them. This protest is for everyone." Apart from the BKU, several parties are also organising their Mahapanchayats to show solidarity with the farmers' protest. Farmers announce series of Mahapanchayats in March

Farmer unions Monday announced a countrywide 'chakka jam' on February 6 when they would block national and state highways for three hours in protest against the Internet ban in areas near their agitation sites, harassment allegedly meted out to them by authorities, and other issues. Union leaders told a press conference at the Singhu Border, on the Haryana side, that they will block the roads between 12 pm to 3 pm on February 6. They also alleged that farmers have been "ignored" in the <keyword id="6360189" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-budget">Union Budget</keyword> 2021-22, and water and power supply have been curtailed, and mobile toilet blocks being removed, at their protest venues. The Samkyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of protesting unions, also alleged that the Twitter accounts of Kisan Ekta Morcha and a user named 'Tractor2Twitter' have been restricted. <keyword id="2808956" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swaraj-Abhiyan">Swaraj Abhiyan</keyword> leader Yogendra Yadav alleged the action against the Twitter account was taken on the "request of government authorities", adding accounts of some private individuals, who have been very vocal against the movement, have also been restricted. He also claimed that the Union government has "reduced the allocation to agriculture sector" in this budget. Balbir Singh Rajewal, a farmer leader from Punjab, and part of the SKM, told reporters that the modalities of the 'Chakka Jam' on February 6 will be decided after discussing it with various unions unanimously, including those protesting at Ghazipur border site, the new focal point of the farmers movement against the new farm laws. Rajewal claimed during the press conference that scores of people have been "detained by the police" besides FIRs filed against many, including a journalist. "Our February 6 protest would also be against this harassment faced by journalists who are trying to report the truth from the ground, and the Twitter restrictions," he said. Swaraj Abhiyan's Yadav alleged that the Union government has "reduced the allocation to agriculture sector" in this year's budget. And, even percentage of allocation has gone down from "5.1 pc last fiscal to 4.3 pc this year". He asserted that mahapanchayats are happening in the country, while the government is trying to "have its way". These mahapanchayats will "dismantle the arrogance" of the government and the agitation will destroy the "shrewdness of the central government," Yadav said. Asserting that the government is committed towards farmers'' welfare, Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> on Monday proposed 10 per cent hike in the farm loan disbursal target to Rs 16.5 lakh crore, and introduced an agri infra and development cess of up to 100 per cent to create post-harvest infrastructure for improving farmers' income. Agitating farmers announce nationwide 'chakka jam' on February 6 to protest against the Internet ban

Jaipur, <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">Farmers</keyword> in <keyword id="6355588" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan">Rajasthan</keyword> blocked many national and state highways for three hours on Saturday, from 12pm to 3 pm, demanding the withdrawal of three farm laws and protesting against the internet ban near their protest sites and alleged harassment by authorities, among other issues. The Congress government had already extended its support to farmers. Following orders from the AICC, Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasara on Friday directed all party officials to fully cooperate in making the highway jam a success, after which Congress leaders took to the streets for the <keyword id="6545452" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="chakka-jam">chakka jam</keyword>. The protests started around 12 noon. In Jaipur, tractors were placed on roads to jam the traffic while in Alwar, stones and thorny shrubs were placed on roads to check the traffic on roads. In Kota, a massive tractor rally was taken out. The <keyword id="389014" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Jaipur-highway">Delhi-Jaipur highway</keyword> was completely blocked as the lane passing through the Shahjahanapur border (Alwar) was also closed around 11 am in morning. Former deputy CM Sachin Pilot, who started a kisaan mahapanchayat on Friday from Dausa, reached Bharapur on Saturday to address a farmers' gathering as a part of this chakka jam protest. Many associations extended their support in making the chakka jam a success in Rajasthan. A 50-member delegation of advocates came at the protest site from Shri Ganganagar and donated Rs 80,000 for langar. Chakka Jam: Rajasthan farmers block highways including Delhi-Jaipur highway to protest against internet ban and farm laws

However, hundreds of people including Rajya Sabha MP KK Rajesh, CITU, all-India Kisaan Sabha and Anganwari workers staging a protest in support of <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> at Bilaspur Chowk later on Tuesday have been taken into preventive custody by the police. Last week, a mahapanchayat of 360 villages was held in Jharsa village where representatives of all the Khaps participated and assured their support to the farmers' protest. The protestors said that if the <keyword id="6357307" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Government">central government</keyword> does not accept the demands of the farmers, then the entire stretch between Delhi-Gurugram will be sealed. "We have decided to support the farmers' movement in solidarity and warned the state government and said that the central government is doing injustice to the farmers. If necessary, they will march across the city and will close the markets on their own," Chaudhary Mahender Singh Thakran, president of the 360 village khap, said. Leaders of political parties said that the government must act fast on the farm laws otherwise all supplies to the national capital will be stopped. "The central government should have also talked with the farmers before implementing the farm laws. The decision was taken at their own level. The farmers had also issued notice to the government about their protest and had raised questions related to the laws but in vain. The government has forcefully imposed its own law on the farmers" said a Congress leader. The protestors issued a warning to the government, saying that if the talks on December 9 with the government do not yield meaningful results, they will intensify their protests across the district.
