Here’s the list of activities permitted during the lockdown <ul><li>Hospitals, medical labs, pharmaceuticals shops, ambulance and medical services will be allowed during the lockdown.</li><li>All public transport like auto, taxi and buses won’t be allowed until being used for a medical emergency. However, transportation from the airport or railway station will be allowed after procuring e-pass from the authorities.</li><li>All state and central government offices in the city will work with 33% staff with an exception for essential services departments including health, police and other local bodies.</li><li>State government employees from the containment zones will be exempt from duty. However, prior approval is needed.</li><li>Banks are allowed to open with a maximum of 33% staff. All ATM’s and other banking services will continue normally.</li><li>The government has also allowed public distribution shops (PDS) to open from 8 am to 2 pm. However, the shop in the containment zones will remain shut, and the relief will be directly handed over to the families in need.</li><li>Essential commodities shops like grocery stores and petrol bunks will be open from 6 am to 2 pm with stricter social distancing norms. It could be over 250 calls," Mohan had told IANS. During his Mann ki Baat programme, Modi said Mohan, who owns a salon in Madurai, had spent his entire savings to help people in distress during the Covid-19 lockdown. "Shri Mohan ji runs a salon in Madurai. Through sheer hard work, he had saved Rs 5 lakh for his daughter's education. But he spent the entire amount in the service of the needy and the underprivileged in these difficult times," Modi had said on Sunday. According to Mohan, he had saved the amount for his daughter Nethra's education. She is now in eighth standard. According to him, the money could be saved later also but help for the people in distress had to be rendered immediately. "Originally, we were from Ramanathapuram district. We came to Madurai twenty years ago and set up the shop," he said. Several units are not functioning for the past several months with most of them getting outsourced orders from major garment exporters. Exporters of Tiruppur, which is considered the knitwear hub of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, are in a tough situation as they are unable to execute international orders that they have taken. This, according to exporters, would lead to the market going elsewhere. It may be noted that Bangladesh and Vietnam are two major contenders for European and United States markets along with India and Sri Lanka. While the economic crisis in Sri Lanka has already taken its toll on that country, with the industry slumping, the spiraling yarn prices have led to a grinding halt for several units in Tiruppur. It may be noted that the prices of all varieties of Yarn were moving around Rs 220-290 per kg during 2021 but after the yarn mill owners increased prices, the commodity touched more than Rs 400 per kilogram. The exporters are not able to negotiate prices with the buyers and hence there is a decline in the orders as high yarn prices take the industry to losses. An exporter who does not want to be named, while speaking to IANS said: "High yarn prices are making it difficult for us to negotiate orders. In August 2021, the prices of one kilogram of yarn were 220, but now the prices in April -May have touched around Rs 440 per kg." He said that the industry cannot survive at the price of yarn as there would be huge losses to the exporters and hence most of the companies are either shut or operating with a minuscule workforce. The exporter said that as they could not employ, a large number of workers from North Indian states and from North Eastern states have left Tiruppur for good. There is no work and we were earning around 23000 Rs per month. I don't know what I am going to do in my village other than farming. However, farming will not yield much money, and my family consisting of a father, mother, wife, and two children will have to starve. It's a very sad state of affairs." Notably, there are around 1.30 lakh migrant workers in the various garment factories of Tiruppur and if the crisis continues, it will affect a large number of families who are dependent on this industry. New Delhi, May 28 () An asymptomatic passenger who took an IndiGo Bengaluru-Madurai flight on Wednesday was found positive for COVID-19 during mandatory testing on the same day at a quarantine facility in Madurai, the airline said on Thursday. Domestic passenger flights resumed in India from Monday. Since then, five passengers of three different airlines have tested positive for COVID-19. "An asymptomatic passenger who travelled on IndiGo on 6E 7214 from Bangalore to Madurai on May 27, 2020 was discovered to be COVID-19 positive during the mandatory testing at the quarantine facility in Madurai on 27th May," the airline said in its statement. The passenger had observed all precautionary measures, including wearing face mask, face shield and gloves, like other passengers on the aircraft, IndiGo added. "All our aircraft are regularly sanitized as a standard operating procedure, and the aircraft operating these flights were immediately disinfected as per protocol," the airline said. "The operating crew has been home quarantined for 14 days and we are in the process of notifying other passengers as per the government guidelines, to ensure safety of our passengers and staff," it added. SpiceJet had said on Wednesday that two of its passengers who travelled from Ahmedabad to Guwahati via Delhi on Monday tested positive for COVID-19. On Tuesday, IndiGo had said that a passenger who travelled on flight 6E 381 from Chennai to Coimbatore on Monday evening tested positive for the disease. Air India had stated on Wednesday that a passenger who was on an Alliance Air flight from the national capital to Ludhiana tested positive for coronavirus and a total of 41 people, including five crew members, had been quarantined. The decision was taken after Palaniswami chaired a review meeting on the coronavirus spread in the state. He said in the case of Tiruppur and Salem the lockdown will be between 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. from April 26-28. According to him, sanitisation of containment zones will be done twice a day in the state. He said only work from home is permitted for software companies and other private companies should not function in these five districts. The Chief Minister also ordered the closure of registration department <keyword id="47357" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="offices">offices</keyword> while allowing only the following to function: - Hospitals, diagnostic test labs, pharmacies, ambulance and hearse services; - Essential services departments in the state secretariat, health, revenue, disaster management, electricity, milk, water supply departments; - Other central and state government offices with 33 per cent staff strength; - Government run Amma Canteens, ATMs; - Old age homes and orphanages; - Community kitchens run by district/local administrations; - Service organisations for the benefit of poor with government permission and - Vegetable markets, mobile vegetable shops will run subject to regulations.
