The company aims to make money from its lending business. “Since Paytm will largely be engaged in selling down these loans to partner banks or NBFCs (non-banking financial companies) balance sheets, the addressable fee pool is much lower,” said Macquarie. A Redseer report added that the BNPL market is nascent in India, valued at $3-3.5 billion that could grow 15-fold over the next five years to $45-50 billion. Simpl’s flagship product is the one-step “Pay Later” option, which allows customers to delay the payment of the product they have purchased for 15 days. The payments solution can be used to purchase food, apparels and more. The company also allowed the users to make bill payments online. Its latest offering includes “Pay-in-3”, which allows customers to make the payment of their purchases in three equally payments every month. It claims that their monthly active user base has grown nearly 10-fold in the last 18 months. It works with over 7,000 category leading online merchants such as Zomato, MakeMyTrip, BigBasket, Jio Platform, 1mg, Crocs and more. "We built a fullstack checkout platform that gives merchants ultimate control of user experience and helps them build trust with consumers at checkout. Apparently, there are over 1,100 apps that give loans and over 600 of them are illegal. JITO Angel Network, a few senior executives from American chipmaker NVIDIA and US-based ride hailing service Lyft that competes with Uberalso participated in the round. Minus Zero plans to use this capital to build extensive <keyword id="1044059" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="autonomous-vehicle" source="Orion">autonomous vehicle</keyword> research and development (R&amp;D) infrastructure and expand the team to get its first vehicle out on the roads by late 2022 to early 2023. “Minus Zero believes that the complexity of self-driving cars can be solved not by stacking up more sensors or petabytes of data, but by making the AI more intuitive, similar to the way our own brain handles decision making,” the company said in a media statement. The Bengaluru-based startup — founded by Gagandeep Reehal and Gursimran Kalra in 2021 — uses a combination of camera-based vision and algorithms to drive its self-driving technology. The company claims to have multiple patents “in the pipeline” and a proprietary approach towards self-driving that mimics human intuition giving the software an ability to gain confident insights even with lesser data inputs. “This enables robust decision making, which is crucial for safe navigation in scenarios where extrinsic factors like poor traffic infrastructure, rash driving, harsh weather, etc. would have otherwise compromised with the safety of the vehicle,” Gagandeep Reehal, chief executive officer and chief technology officer (CTO) of Minus Zero, said. Commenting on the investment, TCM Sundaram, founder and vice chairperson of Chiratae Ventures believes that autonomous vehicles are no more a thing of the future and need to become a reality now. He noted that scaling autonomous vehicles beyond certain cities needs reimagination beyond relying on expensive technologies. Minus Zero, still in its infancy, competes with global tech giants Tesla and Google, which have been trying to crack self-driving technology for many years now. Currently, no major player in India is experimenting with autonomous vehicles as the technology is expected to take a longer adoption time due to traffic congestion, complex terrains and other reasons. Former Twitter India head is looking to wind down his metaverse college in less than six months

Through this model, the firm is giving its employees the power to choose to work from home, office or any location of their choice. Future Group’s Kishore Biyani, Mohandas Pai and 68 others invest in former Twitter India head’s latest startup

The menace of ragging continues to haunt students in some institutions in <keyword id="13104" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="telugu" source="Orion">Telugu</keyword> states as in the latest case in Andhra Pradesh, 18 students of <keyword id="6034800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jntu-anantapur" source="Orion">JNTU Anantapur</keyword> have been suspended for <keyword id="1325638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ragging-juniors" source="Orion">ragging juniors</keyword>. The College Academic Council of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (<keyword id="99885" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jntu" source="Orion">JNTU</keyword>) suspended students of Anantapur Engineering College for forcibly taking some freshers to their hostel. The juniors were allegedly forced to stand half-naked and follow orders of the seniors. The incident took place on Friday night but came to light a day later. The college authorities learnt about ragging when a parent of one of the first-year students complained. The college authorities came to know that some first-year students were taken to <keyword id="13120357" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gurukula-hostel" source="Orion">Gurukula Hostel</keyword>, the hostel of seniors. When questioned by the college principal, the freshers revealed how they were ragged by the seniors. Taking a serious note of the incident, the College Academic Council suspended 18 students of the second year found involved in the ragging from academics and hostel. The Council began a detailed inquiry on Monday to ascertain facts from the victims and other students for further action. Police also took suo-moto note of the ragging incident and began a probe. According to Anantapur Superintendent of Police Fakkerappa Kaginelli, the police have not received any complaint but they took suo-moto cognizance and deputed a DSP-rank officer to probe the incident. This is the second incident of ragging in the government-run institutions in the Telugu states in the last one month. Six students of a government medical college in Telangana's Suryapet were suspended for one year for ragging a junior student last month. Second year MBBS students of the Government Medical College Suryapet were punished after they were found involved. They were also arrested by the police under the Anti-Ragging Act. The police rescued the junior student Sai Kumar after receiving a call that some senior students were ragging him in the Boys hostel of the college. The complainant alleged that a group of students came to his room, ordered him to take off his clothes and took video shots of him in their mobile phones. They also tried to cut his hair. The victim said he was physically and mentally tortured for two hours. He later managed to escape from them and called up his father after hiding in another room. <ul><li><keyword id="3457278" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="darwinbox" source="Orion">Darwinbox</keyword> made its entry into the unicorn club after raising $72 million in a round led by TCV.</li><li>The company builds cloud-based human resources softwares that are used by giants like Adani Walmart, Tata and others.</li><li>It has taken Darwinbox seven years to look towards the US whereas for most software companies, the US is their biggest market right from the beginning.</li></ul>India’s latest software-as-a-service (SaaS) unicorn DarwinBox has started to test the waters in the USA and expects to clock a revenue of $10 million from America in the next two years. A unicorn, in startup parlance, is a private firm valued at or more than $1 billion. The odd bit is that it has taken Darwinbox seven years to look towards the US whereas for most software companies, the US is their biggest market right from the beginning. Market leaders like Freshworks, BrowserStack, Postman, Zenoti and others — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/new-guidelines-on-recurring-payments-may-send-saas-companies-out-of-india-say-experts/amp_articleshow/86679020.cms">usually focus on the American market as it houses all their target customers</a>. The combined revenue of all SaaS companies in the US is<a href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2022/01/10/2363666/0/en/Software-as-a-Service-SaaS-Market-to-Hit-USD-716-52-Billion-by-2028-Increasing-Digitalization-to-Augment-Market-Growth-Fortune-Business-Insights.html#:~:text=In%20its%20report%20titled%20%E2%80%9CSoftware,primary%20components%20of%20cloud%20computing."> $57 billion</a> (2020). "It is a much larger market and much more competitive market, so we probably have to find our niche to enter the market with," Darwinbox’s Founder Rohit Chennamaneni told Business Insider. Ankur Bansal, co-founder of BlackSoil Capital, in<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/new-guidelines-on-recurring-payments-may-send-saas-companies-out-of-india-say-experts/articleshow/86679020.cms"> a previous conversation with Business Insider</a>, had highlighted that SaaS business margins are really high and they are even higher from customers based out of the US or Europe. This, in turn, also increases their valuation in the eyes of the investors significantly. However, the HR solutions provider was able to resist the lure for seven years so far. "We want to be the number one player in Asia, this is more of a long-term horizon thing. But because we are already getting some traction there [USA] that is why we want to launch there," Chennamaneni added. So what changed now? Currently, 60% of its revenue comes from India, nearly 33% from Southeast Asia and nearly 7-8% from the Middle East. "We have always sold to Asian headquartered companies that have offices in the US. Now, as an opportunity we can go and sell to US-based companies, which have a strong Asia presence. It will just change the number of companies I call to sell to, as a product we are ready,” Chennamaneni said. Darwinbox — that builds cloud-based human resources softwares — believes that there are three aspects that may work in their favour. First, the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/zoom-dropbox-backer-salesforce-ventures-makes-its-first-investment-in-india-in-hr-tech-startup-darwinbox-which-claims-to-have-grown-by-200-during-lockdown/articleshow/80341562.cms">investments they have raised </a>from US-based Salesforce, one of the most valuable brands in the world. Second, being featured on market research report ‘Gartner Magic Quadrant 2021’, which has increased the company’s inbound inquiries. Third, its existing clientele in Asia who already have offices in the US. The company has over 650 clients, namely Mcure, Adani Walmart, Tata, Paytm, BigBasket, Cred and others. Some of these also have offices in the US. What’s the action plan? The company has decided to spend the next two years building a strong foundation. It will start off with a short pilot programme in the world’s biggest SaaS market with five undisclosed companies and look to expand its offering to 30 players. DarwinBox is looking to hire two sales people, who will work with the company’s founder Chennamaneni directly, to get more understanding on the needs of the market and create a unique preposition for the customers. The company will be competing with SAP SuccessFactors, Workday Human Capital Management, Ceridian Dayforce, Workforce Now and others in the US market. Darwinbox hopes to lead Asian market Darwinbox has been following a different trajectory so far. The company started in India, expanded in India and then expanded in the Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets, before making any progress towards the United States. The company does agree that the American market has the potential to be its largest market and make a majority of its revenue, if approached correctly, Chennamaneni said. Darwinbox is looking to further scaling its product offerings to provide better employee experience. The company plans to make its conversational bot advances by enabling it to have more personal conversations. The existing chat bot "eases the life of the person, what we are focusing on is user experiences. How the person is feeling, how engaged the person is, etc.," Chennamaneni added. The stock listed at ₹275, which is at a 10% discount to the IPO price band set at ₹305-306 per share. Within minutes after listing, the shares of Angel Broking gained nearly 5% of their value and were trading at ₹287.85 apiece at 10:05 am. <div type="image" title="Angel Broking (2)" msid="78486377" hostid="261"></div> The company’s total market cap rose to ₹2,339.45 crore at 10:05 am. A total traded quantity of 2.36 lakh shares changed hands on BSE, amounting to a turnover of ₹7.27 crore. Ahead of the IPO, Angel broking also raised ₹180 crore from 12 anchor investors that included Goldman Sachs India, Macquarie Fund Solutions, Invesco Trustee, Max Life Insurance company, ICICI Prudential, HDFC Mutual Fund, and Sundaram MF, among others. Why did it fail to garner investors' interest? The investor pessimism already reflected in the grey market premium ahead of the listing, it was trading much lower than its IPO peers. Most of the brokerage reports highlighted various vital factors that may impact its business in the near future. As of June, 30 Angel Broking garnered 72.2% of the total income from broking business, and according to HDFC Securities, "any reduction in its brokerage fee could have a material adverse effect on the business." With SEBI tightening rules here and there, brokerages remain cautious about Angel Broking's business.
