It’s a matter of deep concern to J G Hosiery that the woman in the Lux Cozi ad holds up the Lux Cozi underwear to show that her man wears Lux Cozi, implying that Varun Dhawan should stay away, in a similar manner to how it was held up by Sana Khan in the Amul Macho TOING ad. Amul Innerwear team takes the matter of their creative asset being copied very seriously, believing that the visual similarity of the two Ads cannot be a mere co-incidence. Both women in the two respective ads hold up the underwear to make a statement about the fact that, “My man wears this”. In a significant ruling, The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) in its judgement dated 24.09.2021 has overruled the complaint filed by the rival brand and observed that “there is no similarity in terms of concept and executional elements.” <br /><br />Amul Macho complained that Lux Cozi had blatantly copied their popular Ad concept and executional elements. However, the apex body has now observed that there is no resemblance in the advertisements. <br /><br />The complaint was made on grounds that Lux Cozi’s advertisement bears similarities to Amul Macho’s advertisement in general layout, copy, slogans, visual presentations, music and sound effects. The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) observed that the advertisements barely had any similarities between them in terms of concept and executional elements. The CCC concluded that Lux Cozi’s advertisement is not similar to Amul Macho’s earlier run advertisement in general layout, copy, slogans, visual presentations, music or sound effects, so as to suggest plagiarism. The TVC was not in contravention of Chapter IV of the ASCI Code.<br /><br />Speaking on the glorious win, Saket Todi, Executive Director - Lux Industries, averred, “Our Lux Cozi advertisement is unique on individual points as well as in totality, and any semblance is fleeting and only in respect of elements commonly used in the trade, such as shape and colour of the garment. He recommended the minibars from kitchen brand <a href="https://molteni.it/us/">Molteni &amp; C. and Dada</a>, though IKEA makes more affordable pieces.</p><h2><strong>Install heated walls in the bathroom</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="Two photos of white stone bathrooms at 611 West 56th Street in New York." height="1875" width="2500" msid="96922482" hostid="261" sizebytes="114498"></div><p>Gabellini said he likes to extend the same kind of wellness amenities they put into ritzy hotels into the home. </p><p>He's seeing a growing demand for heated walls, which are already popular in Germany. </p><p>"It's very easy for us, if someone is retiling the bath to put these very thin micro mats of electric mesh into your walls, into your floors, and then you retile back on top of it," he said, noting that it adds about $5 to $7 per square foot in cost.</p><p>"For kids it's wonderful too, because it actually encourages them to go, especially in winter months, into their bathrooms because their bathrooms are always freezing," he added.</p><h2><strong>Opt for heated countertops in the kitchen</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="An open condo kitchen with a dark stone countertop and dining table on the left." height="4318" width="5758" msid="96922484" hostid="261" sizebytes="582132"></div><p>You've heard of heated floors — and now, heated walls — but what about heated countertops? Gabellini said he often relies on <a href="https://www.warmlyyours.com/en-US/countertop-heater">WarmlyYours countertop heating pads</a> when installing new kitchens. </p><p>The pads start at $375 and cost about 10 cents a day to run, according to WarmlyYours. The heat they emit is gentle — they won't keep a plate of food warm or be too hot to touch if you're resting fingers on the countertop. </p><p>"In a cold climate, to have that radiant heat while you're having drinks or dinner with your friends or family, it's just so wonderful because it naturally becomes a place that people gravitate to,"  he said.</p><h2><strong>Add a fireplace to the living room like it's an appliance</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="A modern pellet stove next to a bookshelf." height="1666" width="2222" msid="96922486" hostid="261" sizebytes="50628"></div><p>If your home doesn't have a fireplace, don't fret. </p><p>It's relatively easy, and inexpensive, to add a standing pellet stove or wood stove to the living room, Gabellini said.</p><p>"It's a very easy thing to put in, because it's considered by code an appliance," he said. </p><p>They do have to be vented and sit on a stone pad, and should be installed by a professional. The stoves are often priced below $2,000, and installation costs about the same.</p><p>It's worth noting that come cities, like New York, <a href="https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/newyorkcity/latest/NYCadmin/0-0-0-52472">prohibits the installation of wood-burning stoves</a>, so make sure you check your local regulations before diving in.</p>

According to <a target="_blank" href="https://robbreport.com/style/watch-collector/chanel-opens-first-watch-and-jewelry-nyc-boutique-1235502214/">Robb Report</a>, it's only the fourth <keyword id="21401691" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chanel-store" source="keywords">Chanel store</keyword> in the world like it, and renowned architect Peter Marino designed the boutique.<br /><br /><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chanel-ceo-trailblazer-every-job-leena-nair-2023-8">Chanel</a> celebrated its grand opening with a star-studded event in February, joining other luxury brands like Saint Laurent and Gucci's parent company Kering in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/luxury-brands-billion-dollar-investment-real-estate-retail-store-shopping-2024-4">investing in physical retail spaces for high-end clientele</a>.<br /><br />I wanted to see what the boutique was like without all the celebrity glitz and glamour, so I used a free Monday to head to the store.<br /><br />      <div type="image" title="A Chanel store in New York City." height="2667" width="2000" msid="109511697" hostid="261"></div>It was hard to miss the two-story boutique thanks to its asymmetrical checkerboard look made of black and textured gold paneling in massive windows. Two doormen lingered by the entrance while several other employees waited nearby to assist shoppers. An employee immediately welcomed me inside as I took in my surroundings, and when I asked for a tour of the space, he seemed more than happy to help.<br /><br />The boutique was mostly empty, with just a few shoppers milling around and another sitting with an employee discussing watch options. I got the impression most people came to the store with an appointment in place, though the workers I interacted with were welcoming of me even though I didn't have one.<br /><br />The exterior color scheme continued inside, with black floors, gold walls, and rugs blending both colors. Every inch of the place seemed to sparkle.<br /><br />The boutique's distinct scent helped to create the perfume bottle illusion, which an employee told me was unique to the store and couldn't be bought.<br /><br />Marino told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/style/chanel-watch-jewelry-flagship-store-new-york-1235819710/">The Hollywood Reporter</a> that texture and luxury were crucial to the store's aesthetic.<br /><br />"Everything is tactile and gold and special; even the carpets are three-dimensional, a mixture of silk and wool, while the stucco texture on walls was made with people's hands — including my own, you'll find that in the elevator," he told the outlet.<br /><br />Marino also looked to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/signs-hermes-bag-fake-purse-resale-counterfeit-2024-2">Coco Chanel's</a> interior design aesthetic for the store's design, which blended the simplicity of black and white decor with "ornate Venetian mirrors," he said to The Hollywood Reporter.<br /><br /><h2>The boutique emanated luxury</h2>As an employee showed me around, my eyes were drawn to the jewelry arranged in free-standing cases and glass displays built into the walls of the store's first floor, which was split into three spacious rooms.<br /><br />Of the three rooms on the main floor, one held watches, one had more accessible pieces from Chanel's jewelry line, and the third held rarer pieces from its collection. According to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wmagazine.com/fashion/chanel-watches-jewelry-store-new-york-fifth-avenue">W Magazine</a>, several historic Chanel pieces are currently exhibited in the boutique, like the 55.55 necklace. I was reminded of hours spent at museums with priceless art as I took it all in.<br /><br /> The second floor featured private VIP rooms where buyers could meet with Chanel staff for more intimate appointments. They were just as lush as the first floor, with built-in TV screens for remote meetings and plush furniture.<br /><br />As I turned to walk back downstairs, a group of shoppers were settling into one of the rooms with an employee, appearing at ease in the luxe space. I didn't know if they were used to being in high-end stores or if the staff just made them feel comfortable, but I could see either being true because the space was somehow both luxurious and inviting.<br /><br />Chanel's careful curation of its new space — from a custom scent and attentive staff to the shades of gold bathing the property — made it feel comfortable and inviting. Visiting Chanel's watches and fine jewelry boutique is an experience, which you just can't get online.<br /><br />So, if you plan to walk down Fifth Avenue anytime soon, it's worth popping into Chanel for the look of the store alone.<br /><br />

"Expect rich brown tones in upholstery and accents and a resurgence of walnut and darker wood tones."</p><p>She said the warm, inviting color creates a sense of comfort in both luxe and relaxed spaces, enhancing the overall ambiance of a home.</p><h2>Biophilic design will continue to be popular</h2><p>Biophilic design, which emphasizes connection with nature, helps people experience the benefits of the outdoors inside their homes.</p><p>The design style will keep being popular in 2024, said Luis Carmona, owner of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.verdeid.com/"><u>VERDE Interior Design</u></a>.</p><p>"Using natural light and elements, like wood, clay, and stone, will play a big part as people design and remodel their homes in 2024," Carmona told BI.</p><p>He said people want to make their home a sanctuary, especially as they work remotely and spend more time there.</p><p>"<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-make-your-home-peaceful-interior-designers">Bringing nature indoors</a> with outdoor plants and natural ventilation will help connect the indoors with the outdoors while adding that element of life into the space," Carmona added.</p><h2>People will opt for more patterns and prints throughout their homes</h2><div type="image" title="Floral wallpaper behind white bed with pink sheets" height="1400" width="2141" msid="107060542" hostid="261"></div><p>Interior designer Megan Hersch, cofounder and chief operating officer at <a target="_blank" href="https://roomlift.com/"><u>roomLift</u></a>, told BI that people will embrace patterns and prints as they customize their homes this year.</p><p>Many of us want to see the prints and patterns we love every day, not just on special occasions, she said.</p><p>"People are feeling a big 'Why not?' moment," she added.</p><h2>Curved architecture will be a well-loved choice for many</h2><p>Hersch anticipates a surge of curves for people who want to make a bold statement while maintaining a warm and cozy feeling in their space.</p><p>"We are seeing more gentle curves inside the home — doorways, mirrors, and decorative arches — in everything from tile plaques to fiber art," the designer said.</p><h2>Moiré silk will give homes a touch of elegance</h2><p>Manhattan-based interior designer <a target="_blank" href="https://www.taramccauley.com/"><u>Tara McCauley</u></a> told BI that moiré silk, a material with a wavy pattern that creates a "rich sense of depth," will be everywhere this year.</p><p>"I love moiré pretty much anywhere," she said, adding it's beautiful for pillows, drapery, or lining material in furniture that opens.</p><p>To maximize the effect of moiré, McCauley said, put it in a space with adequate lighting. The silk material looks best when it can fully reflect light.</p><h2>People will incorporate sculptural wall art into their homes</h2><div type="image" title="White and airy Scandinavian bedroom with 3D Wood deer head sculpture on wall and small desk" height="1414" width="2121" msid="107060543" hostid="261"></div><p>McCauley said sculptural wall art will beat out traditional prints that lay flat because of the additional aesthetics they provide.</p><p>"Wall-mounted sculptures offer so much depth and dimension. Prints behind glass can feel so flat," she told BI.</p><h2>Shades of blue will be used to complement many color palettes</h2><p>Valerie Stafford, lead designer and partner at <a target="_blank" href="https://rumordesigns.com/"><u>Rumor Designs</u></a>, said blue will have a big year as a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-colors-for-home-in-2024-from-color-experts">popular color option in homes</a>.</p><p>"So many shades of blue work together in the same palette, stretching into greens, purples, and sometimes gray. Blues are versatile," Stafford told BI.</p><p>She added that blue is also easy to use as an accent in a home just by adding pillows or lamps.</p><h2>The checkered print is in and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon</h2><div type="image" title="Floating bath tub on checkered floor in front of glass doors open to treetops" height="1500" width="2000" msid="107060544" hostid="261"></div><p>"A classic black-and-white checkered floor has been a constant in interior design for literally hundreds of years," Jennifer Verruto, founder and CEO of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.blytheinteriors.com/"><u>Blythe Interiors</u></a>, told BI.</p><p>It's not going anywhere, she said, and she predicts checkered patterns will go beyond flooring in 2024.</p><p>The pattern is "incredibly versatile and lends itself to ultra-traditional and elegant spaces but also works well in funky, eclectic homes," Verruto added.</p><h2>Some will turn to metallic wallpapers to liven up their spaces</h2><p>Lauren Czarniecki, founder and principal designer of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.czarinteriors.com/"><u>Czar Interiors</u></a>, said the metallic-wallpaper trend will continue to be popular this year.</p><p>"Metallic wallpapers offer a great way to capture light and help make an otherwise unassuming space more lively," Czarniecki said.</p><p>The metallics pop even more in spaces that are mostly matte.</p><h2>Multifunctional spaces will continue to be a priority</h2><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/bree-steele-a66509244/"><u>Bree Steele</u></a>, an interior designer and trade accounts manager at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.rjliving.com.au/"><u>RJ Living</u></a>, said multifunctional spaces are here to stay as many people are now working from home more permanently.</p><p>People will continue to buy versatile furniture and create layouts that help them use their homes in multiple ways.</p><p>"This trend is all about smart, adaptable designs that cater to various needs — from work to relaxation — within the same space," Steele told BI.</p><h2>Marble will continue to make a statement</h2><div type="image" title="Sage green cabinets in kitchen with marble countertop and backsplash" height="1463" width="2048" msid="107060545" hostid="261"></div><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.floor360.com/"><u>FLOOR360</u></a> interior designer <a target="_blank" href="https://www.floor360.com/madison-flooring/design-team/autumn-stankovsky/"><u>Autumn Stankovsky</u></a> said more people will lean into marble for an impactful home-decor statement this year.</p><p>She told BI that marble will be especially prominent on accent walls, fireplaces, and kitchen backsplashes.</p><h2>Others will turn to jewel-tone accents for a nice touch</h2><p>Susan Hayward, interior designer at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.susanhaywardinteriors.com/"><u>Susan Hayward Interiors</u></a>, expects jewel tones to continue to be popular, especially as accent colors.</p><p>"These colors work so well with natural woods," she told BI.</p>

Interior designers share 12 home trends that'll be popular this year 

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Airbnb removed listings for three vans in NYC's Upper East Side neighborhood after complaints.</li><li>Each listing featured a mattress, sink, and toilet that guests were encouraged not to use.</li></ul><p>Earlier this year, if Airbnb users zoomed into <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-city-neighborhood-where-billionaires-celebrities-live-2018-2">New York City's Upper East Side neighborhood</a>, they could spot three unusual listings.</p><p>The listings weren't for luxe lofts or ritzy apartments in one of <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/04/realestate/most-expensive-neighborhoods-nyc.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NYC's most expensive neighborhoods</a> — they were for vans.</p><p>Starting at $96 a night, guests could rent the "lovely rv place," the "NYC Van Experience," or "The NYC RV," the <a href="https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-airbnb-vans-upper-east-side-manhattan-duplicate-plates-magdalena-kulisz-20230725-tafv4prykbbchhpnbggx44iab4-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Daily News</a> first reported on July 25. Reviews for the listings on Airbnbs had gone back to February, according to the outlet.</p><p>Inside each van, guests could find a mattress, a small sink, and a toilet with a sign reading, "For Emergency USE only please! Please avoid doing #2 here!," the Daily News' Ellen Moynihan reported. </p><p>After complaints from neighborhood residents and an <a href="https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-airbnb-vans-upper-east-side-listings-removed-tripadvisor-flipkey-20230729-2bsc7oainzcurb3yf7lkr2umdq-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation by the Daily News</a>, the listings were removed from Airbnb's platform in July — but as of Tuesday, two of <a href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=4e65d0dc4da8e40e322629152732a7e4da63891241ec325aa92e4d72f983501e&amp;postID=64c80ed5c32d1aa092d0c37b&amp;site=bi&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripadvisor.com%2FVacationRentalReview-g60763-d23662943-NYC_Cozy_Van_Camper_Experience-New_York_City_New_York.html">the</a> <a href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=3de073a34e5afc48ecd5c3b53352bd2219a463b8dd54f1b77bdb9d98a0d5c0a5&amp;postID=64c80ed5c32d1aa092d0c37b&amp;site=bi&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripadvisor.com%2FVacationRentalReview-g60763-d23819485-Van_Experience_NYC-New_York_City_New_York.html">vans</a> appear to be listed on Tripadvisor. </p><div type="image" title="Images of the van on Tripadvisor." height="900" width="1200" msid="102339798" hostid="261" sizebytes="56390"></div><h2><strong>Locals complained that van guests would use the streets as their bathroom</strong></h2><p>The vans frequently moved around public parking spots within the neighborhood, the Daily News reported. </p><p>The outlet noted that since the vehicles lacked a traditional bathroom and shower, the host required guests to use a bathroom located in a nearby apartment; in the now-deleted listings, the host told guests they could shower at her home and "just text" before they needed to use it, according to the Daily News.</p><p>But local residents told the Daily News they saw Airbnb guests using the streets as their restroom. </p><p>"Where are they going to do it?" a building super, who asked that his name not be used, told the outlet. "They don't care. They go between the cars or on the building stairs across the street."</p><p>A resident named Stacey told the Daily News that she didn't spot the vans until she noticed "the smell of urine and feces."</p><p>In the listings on Airbnb, the host stated that anything less than a five-star review was considered a negative review, according to the Daily News.</p><p>However, that didn't stop Airbnb guests from leaving less-than-positive reviews. </p><p>According to a review on the vacation-rental platform seen by the Daily News, one guest named Virgile thought the van they stayed in was too expensive. </p><p>"Just have in mind *it's a mattress in a van in the street*. No restroom (a toilet you cannot use) and it was complicated to come take a shower to the host place," they wrote in the review, according to the Daily News. </p><h2><strong>Airbnb removed the listings in July</strong></h2><p>According to the Daily News, the Airbnb host was Magdalena Kulisz, who went by the name Magda Agata on the platform.</p><p>Kulisz, the cofounder of the networking group Miss Immigrant USA, told the Daily News that the vans were legally registered with the state, and in the now-deleted listings for the vans, Kulisz wrote that each was "legally parked and insured." Kulisz declined to comment when contacted by Insider for this story.</p><p>In January 2022, New York City adopted a law that requires hosts to register their Airbnb and short-term properties with the Mayor's Office of Special Enforcement. However, the deadline to register those short-term rentals is September 5 of this year, according to the <a href="https://www.nyc.gov/site/specialenforcement/registration-law/registration.page">Office of Special Enforcement's website</a>. A representative for the office did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.</p><p>Kulisz told the Daily News that she was under the impression she didn't need to do that. "I'm not an attorney but it's not an apartment so I don't think I need to register it with the city," she told the news outlet.</p><p>A spokesperson for Airbnb told Insider that the vans violated the vacation-rental company's policy, which doesn't permit hosts to have listings on public land. </p><p>"Following an investigation, these listings have been removed from the platform," the Airbnb spokesperson said.</p><h2>Two of the vans appear to still be listed on Tripadvisor </h2><p>While Airbnb removed postings for the vans from its platform, two listings that appear to feature the same vans were still active on Tripadvisor as of Tuesday under a host named Sha K. </p><p>When Insider reached Miss Immigrant USA to ask for comment from Magdalena Kulisz, she responded along with Sha Kenan, who is also a cofounder of the organization. (As with the now-removed listings for the vans on Airbnb, the Tripadvisor host says in the listing that guests "are welcome to have shower in our home a block away.")<p>"We were also told not to use the toilet in the van too much which was ridiculous," the reviewer who goes by Culture62288004542 on Tripadvisor wrote. "Basically, there were some days when we could not shower at all," they added, saying they had "to use public restrooms whenever we could."</p><p>Another guest gave the listing one star, writing: "This 'van experience' is not a fun experience."</p>

Airbnb removed 3 rental vans parked in New York City after neighbors complained of feces and urine outside

<ul class="summary-list"><li>China's Gen Z is broke, and they have the receipts to prove it.</li><li>Hundreds of 26-year-olds took to social media to share screenshots of their bank accounts.</li></ul><p>The Chinese dream of being collectively prosperous — and living lives with precocious children, luxe cars, and cozy homes — is dead, and Gen Z has the receipts to show for it.</p><p>To date, more than 300 million Chinese people have viewed a forum thread titled "My real savings at 26" on the Twitter-like Weibo platform. Insider saw hundreds of posts in which people shared screenshots of their bank statements, claiming to be 26 and flat broke.</p><p>At press time, more than 12,000 people had posted on the viral Weibo forum, which is akin to a subreddit. </p><p>One Weibo user in the southwestern Sichuan province confessed to having $0.14 in savings. </p><div type="image" title="A screenshot of a Weibo user's savings page, showing a total of $0.14 in savings." height="768" width="1024" msid="100348705" hostid="261" sizebytes="28730"></div><p>Another Weibo user in Anhui, eastern China, said they had $21.29 in their bank account — and that was the paycheck they had just received for a day's work.</p><div type="image" title="A screenshot of a Weibo user's savings page, showing a total of $0.14 in savings." height="768" width="1024" msid="100348706" hostid="261" sizebytes="25862"></div><p>"My savings at 26. Savings? What savings?" a Weibo user in Jiangsu <a href="https://weibo.com/2743487997/4900623725889066">wrote</a>, showing a screenshot of $67 in savings in their bank account. "Doesn't everyone just live paycheck to paycheck and spend their entire salary?"</p><p>While being broke might not be a big deal for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennials-gen-z-no-point-saving-climate-change-inflation-homeownership-2022-5">freewheeling Gen Z-ers in the Western world</a>, it is serious business for Chinese people. The pinnacle of success in China could be summed up in one word: <a href="https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E5%AD%A8/10411329#:~:text=%E5%AD%A8%EF%BC%8C%E9%9F%B3zhu%C7%8En%EF%BC%8C%E5%AD%A4%E9%9C%B2,%E5%AF%B9%E7%94%9F%E6%B4%BB%E4%B8%AD%E7%9A%84%E6%97%A0%E5%A5%88%E3%80%82" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">孨</a>. Pronounced "zhuan," the term was <a href="https://baike.baidu.com/reference/10411329/dcb2L5QEUboiLztfOwPYAn4oDDcbx_QRdYcieIxhCCvgcU9qAa93mEyr00j0WbGc5uJdM76ogDVtfi-GlYAQgw0b4wUwDhb6vgxODkGfeHuGln1j4AfMIeiPFdDV" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">coined in 2012</a> and refers to the markers of personal accomplishment for the Chinese man: house (房子), car (车子), and wife (妻子).</p><p>To put things into perspective, the average Chinese Gen Z-er earns around $596 a month, per <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1257061/china-monthly-disposable-income-of-generation-z/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Statista.</a> They also face a brutal job market — <a href="https://www.scmp.com/economy/economic-indicators/article/3221003/what-chinas-youth-unemployment-rate-hit-record-high-april-and-why-does-it-cover-ages-16-24">one in five Chinese youths aged 16 to 24 were unemployed in April.</a> And at the same time, they're <a href="https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3130769/chinas-gen-z-splashes-out-luxury-little-regard-debt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spending more than the millennials and Gen X on luxury goods and cosmetics</a>.</p><p>And now that China's Gen Z is feeling the pain, perhaps <a href="https://weibo.com/3089487123/4900869201728233">one Weibo comment</a> — liked more than 700 times at press time — sums it up best.</p><p>"The students who've just graduated are now feeling the true pain of having their asses kicked by Chinese society and the workplace," Yidali Neizhinu, a Chongqing-based Weibo user, wrote.</p><p>"Before the pandemic, people were flexing and saying 'A 30-year-old without a million yuan can't be considered a person' and 'a man in a big city who doesn't own a house doesn't deserve a wife,'" they added. "Now that you guys have faced reality, and realized that money is hard as shit to earn — how does it feel to eat your words?"</p><p>People shared their savings amounts on Weibo in the Chinese yuan; conversions to the USD are accurate as of May 19. Insider was not able to verify any of the individual bank screenshots.</p>

The Chinese Dream is dead because China's Gen Z is flat broke, and they have the receipts to prove it

<ul class="summary-list"><li>I've been lucky enough to stay in five-star hotels around the world.</li><li>I cherish any amount of time in a hotel, but I think money is best spent when you're there for multiple nights.</li></ul><p>As bellhops grabbed my bags, a valet driver swiped my car keys, and a receptionist handed me a key to my room at <a href="https://www.thelittlenell.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">The Little Nell</a>, a five-star hotel in Aspen, Colorado, I was already feeling the pressure of time.</p><p>Check-in for the luxury hotel had started at 4 p.m., and my friend and I arrived just before 5 p.m. This meant we had already lost a precious hour of our $848 stay.</p><p>Since this was only my <a href="https://www.insider.com/luxury-five-star-hotels-most-surprising-things-2022-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">second time in a five-star hotel</a>, I planned to maximize every second. I wanted to soak in the hotel's hot tub, sip cocktails at the hotel's bar, dine on truffle fries at the on-site restaurant, and utilize the hotel's free car rental.</p><p>Before I even had a chance to blink, it felt like my luxury experience was over. I lamented over the fact that I didn't have enough time for everything on my Little Nell bucket list. </p><p>Since then, I've been lucky enough to stay in four more five-star hotels thanks to my job as a travel journalist, bringing my grand total to six five-star stays. And the times I've felt the shocking price tags were worth it were the times I stayed more than one night. </p><div type="image" title="The lobby at The Hotel Britomart." height="1536" width="2048" msid="103791597" hostid="261"></div><h2>A single night isn't enough to enjoy all the amenities</h2><p>When travelers shell out hundreds of dollars for a five-star hotel, they can expect luxury. According to <a href="https://www.fivestaralliance.com/article/what-5-star-hotel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Five Star Alliance</a>, hotels earn five stars with amenities like a concierge desk, 24-hour reception, room service, and nightly turndown service.</p><p>From experience, the amenities go beyond that. I've learned that a five-star hotel is typically in a city's prime location — which means I'll have easy access to restaurants, tourist attractions, and shopping. Beyond a room filled with comfortable bedding and lavish toiletries, there are typically perks like a pool, gym, on-site restaurant, and even a hotel ski shop.  </p><p>To take advantage of all you're paying for, you need time. Meanwhile, most hotels have a check-in time that starts around 4 p.m., while checkout is typically around 11 a.m. the next day.</p><p>If I'm factoring in eight hours of sleep (which I typically am in a hotel bed with high thread counts and down pillows), that means I'm left with less than a full day in the hotel.</p><p>If I never left my room, a one-night stay might be long enough to appreciate a hotel room's soaking tub, rain shower, and cozy bed. But one night is not nearly enough time to take advantage of every amenity. </p><p>At the <a href="https://www.fairmont.com/lake-louise/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise</a> in Banff, Canada, for instance, my friend and I raced to the hotel's bonfire for s'mores night, but since we spent our evening devouring the campfire snack, we missed swimming in the indoor pool and taking a fitness class. </p><p>At the <a href="https://www.crystalbrookcollection.com/albion" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Crystalbrook Albion</a> in Sydney, Australia, I checked in late and missed the hotel's daily gin-and-tonic happy hour. It wasn't the end of the world, but I would've added it to my itinerary if I had another night in the five-star accommodation. </p><p>Meanwhile, in the hotels where I spent more than one night, like the <a href="https://thehotelbritomart.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Hotel Britomart</a> in Auckland, New Zealand, and <a href="https://www.star.com.au/sydney/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">The Darling</a>, a five-star hotel in Sydney, Australia, I was able to take advantage of more amenities. </p><p>For example, at the Hotel Britomart, I spent an entire day wandering around the city on one of the hotel's free bikes — something that wouldn't have worked with my schedule if I stayed only for one night. At The Darling, I used the hotel's gym, basked in the outdoor pool, soaked in my hotel room's shower, and ate breakfast at an on-site restaurant. These four things would've been impossible if I needed to check out by 11 a.m.</p><p>Plus, I typically stay in five-star hotels in new cities, which makes every decision more challenging. Do I spend time enjoying the expensive hotel I spent hundreds of dollars on? Or do I explore a new destination that I might not visit again anytime soon?</p><div type="image" title="The pool at The Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado." height="1536" width="2048" msid="103791598" hostid="261"></div><h2>I'd splurge on extra nights at a luxury hotel</h2><p>The times my five-star stays weren't worth it were the times when I didn't spend enough time in the hotel.</p><p>I travel to learn about new cultures, dive into a city's rich history, and meet locals — three tasks that are impossible to do from a hotel bed. </p><p>More times than not, I'll opt for an affordable hotel. I save money, which means I can stay in a destination longer and there's no pressure to spend time at my hotel.</p><p>But that doesn't mean I won't ever splurge on a luxury stay. Every now and then, there are instances when I want to relax on vacation, and I've decided that if I'm going to splurge, I might as well truly splurge and stay for more than one night. That way I can take advantage of every amenity all while truly decompressing, which to me, is the point of staying in a five-star property. </p><p>It's a privilege to have a decision like whether to enjoy a hotel's pool or visit a nearby art gallery, but when you're paying hundreds of dollars for a place to sleep, it's a decision nonetheless. </p><p>For any future luxe trips I'm saving for, I'm going to save even more so I can vacation in style for two nights instead of one. </p>

Wedding experts share the 9 gifts they think couples would love this holiday season

<ul><li>Shah Rukh Khan topped the report in 2019 and <keyword id="6354832" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ms-dhoni">MS Dhoni</keyword> was at No. 1 in 2020.</li><li>As per IIHB’s report, Dream11 was the most spontaneously recalled brand in this year’s survey.</li></ul>Versatile actor <keyword id="106133" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranveer-Singh">Ranveer Singh</keyword> versus Captain Cool MS Dhoni? Well, both seem to have done equally well in the annual IPL ad recall research of the Indian Institute of Human Brands (IIHB) conducted ten days after the start of the League this year. The research polled 879 respondents in the age-group of 18-35 years (M=481, F=398) across India. The interviews were conducted telephonically. <br /><br />Dream11 was the most spontaneously recalled brand in this year’s survey, which possibly also helped enhance both the brand equity and recall of MS Dhoni who anchored the 12-ad series for the brand as its ambassador and protagonist. Jio Fiber, with multiple IPL teams featured with an effervescent Ranveer Singh gyrating with a sing-song brand message, came in second on recall in the research, also helping the celebrity endorser to considerably strengthen his personal recall. Byju’s was the most spontaneously recalled brand on the IPL last year; though its celebrity endorser Shah Rukh Khan trailed behind other celebrities. <br /><br />Virat Kohli, as expected, did well on recall too, and came third in the recall rankings. Salman Khan did surprisingly well in this year’s survey and came in at No. 4, ahead of Rishabh Pant, Rahul Dravid, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Saurav Ganguly who followed in that sequence. Ajay Devgn, Sachin Tendulkar, Shikhar Dhawan, Shah Rukh Khan, Boman Irani, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Ayushmann Khurrana and Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, had very few mentions and scored very poorly on respondent recall. There were sporadic mentions of Virender Sehwag and Priyanka Chopra too. In the last survey conducted in October 2020, MS Dhoni had the highest spontaneous recall as a celebrity endorser. Virat Kohli was a not-so-close second. Akshay Kumar was at rank 3; Ayushmann Khurrana at rank 4.<br /><br />“MS Dhoni and Ranveer Singh had a disproportionate share of visibility and recall in the IPL research we just conducted. This was in sync with the ultra-high recall of the brands they respectively endorse”, said Dr. Sandeep Goyal, Chief Mentor of IIHB. “It is interesting nevertheless to note that brands without celebrities like Phone Pe, Byju’s and others too have done well wherever media investments are heavy”. <br /><br />IIHB team used its proprietorial CELEBAR tool based on Celebrity Brand Association &amp; Recognition to assign a metric score to each celebrity and associated brand. The tool takes into account:<br /><br /><ul><li>Spontaneous recall of the brand</li><li>Spontaneous recall of the celebrity</li><li>Association between brand &amp; celebrity together </li><li>Recency of communication </li><li>Media weight behind campaign</li><li>Solus versus multiple brands using the celebrity</li></ul>MS Dhoni had a CELEBAR score of 87, up from 82 at the last IPL. His spontaneous recall was an unusually high 82%. His association with Dream 11 was also very constant at 79% from the last edition. He got 9% association with IPL/Star TV, 8% brand association with Indigo Paints, 6% with Orient Fans for Orient Fans and Livfast Solar. 2% recall came from SunFeast Yippee. So, most of Dhoni’s brand goodness got hijacked by Dream 11, much like last year. If Dhoni had only been endorsing Dream 11, his CELEBAR score would have been near 100, given his strong association with that one brand, to almost the relative exclusion of the other brands he endorses.<br /><br />Ranveer achieved a CELEBAR score of 86, empirically almost equal to that of MS Dhoni. But his association was more democratically spread with Jio Fiber at 56%, JD mart at 48%, My11 Circle at 22% and Bingo at 18%. Names of some other brands were mentioned by respondents but these were filtered out as they were not part of the IPL broadcast. <br /><br />Both MS Dhoni and Ranveer gained massively also on account of their main brands spending disproportionately large amounts of media monies which made them exponentially more visible than other competing celebrities. <br /><br />Virat Kohli trailed far behind the Top 2. His score of 45 on CELEBAR is mostly derived by his 94% association with MRF tyres. Bluestar is in low single digits on association. <br /><br />Salman Khan at a CELEBAR of 38, owes 82% recall to Rajshree elaichi and the balance to Pepsi. Rishabh Pant climbed up interestingly to No. 5 on the strength of his JSW appearances. Varun Dhawan had 76% of his recall from Lux Cozi and much lower from Frooti. Alia owed most of her recall also to Frooti with scattered mentions of Dark Fantasy. <br /><br />Interestingly, the IPL seems to be running no/few ads with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, and even with cricketers Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul or Hardik Pandya, or the media weightages behind those ads were too insignificant to be noticed by viewers.<br /><br />The Cred ad for Rahul Dravid was spontaneously recalled by 17% respondents but only 2% remembered Jackie Shroff and only 1% mentioned Kumar Sanu for the same brand. <br /><br />Mutual Funds (AMFI) ads had 22% recall but most respondents got the protagonists mixed up, with the most attributing the messaging to Dhoni and Kohli. <br /><br />Dream 11’s association with multiple cricketers was mentioned by many respondents but most were not sure if they remembered current creatives. Only the connect with MS Dhoni was unambiguous. <br /><br />Despite heavy media weights, Vimal elaichi ad featuring Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan had only an 8% recall. Netmeds with Kareena Kapoor and Renuka Shahane had a good 9% recall. Priyanka Chopra’s Appy Fizz and Katrina’s Slice were almost not recalled. Hema Malini managed 3% recall on Kent RO. Randhir Kapoor’s Asian Paints managed 4% while Kareena Kapoor’s and Pankaj Tripathi’s Berger creatives both got below 1%. Ayushmann was remembered by less than 1% in Urban Company. Gajaraj Rao was mentioned in less than 1% for Voltas. Unacademy featuring Sunil Gavaskar and Harsha Bhogle too scored poorly at 2%. Gamezy featuring KL Rahul got less than 1% recall. <br /><br />On the ads without celebrities, the most remembered were Phone Pe (32%), Byju’s (31%), Vivo (22%), One Plus (21%), Groww (20%), Upstox (20%), Kia (19%), MPL (18%), Bisleri (11%), PharmEasy (11%), Thums Up(9%), Coca Cola (6%), Renault Kiger (6%), Tata Safari (6%), Skoda (3%), Ajio (3%), Dark Fantasy (2%), LikedIn (2%), Raymond (2%) and Tuborg (1%).<br /><br />As more gets added to the broadcast as the IPL progresses, both standings of celebrities and recall of brands may change.<br /><br /><br />

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Peter Wollinga/Shutterstock</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>Seasonal Affective Disorder is a serious depression that affects a small minority of the population.</strong></li><li><strong>But changing seasons and darker days affect most people's behavior, including our cell phone activity.</strong></li><li><strong>Psychologists say there are a few simple ways to help maintain mental health in the winter.</strong></li></ul><p><br />The idea that our mood might darken in the dark winter days has been around for millennia. </p><p>The coldest months of the year were a terrible time for the Greek Gods: Persephone was banished to the underworld every winter, while Boreas ushered in the cool winter winds and his nasty temper. Later, Shakespeare wrote, "a sad tale's best for winter."</p><p>Well, bring on the sad tales, because we're barreling towards the darkest day of the year. On December 21, people in New York will get just over 9 hours 15 minutes of sun, while in Anchorage, Alaska there'll be fewer than 5 and a half hours.</p><h2>A correlation between lower latitudes and less seasonal sadness</h2><p>The idea that darker days could make a portion of the population susceptible to depression wasn't picked up by modern clinicians until the 1980s, when South African psychiatrist Norman Rosenthal moved to the US and noticed a change in his mood during the New York winters.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/tjensen00/12645787634">Ted Jensen/Flickr</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>He wondered whether he felt more glum and low-energy because the days were darker than in his home city of Johannesburg.<br /><br />Rosenthal put the question to the masses in the <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1981/06/12/healthtalk-seasons-of-the-psyche/f744a361-b849-4c1f-925d-c32845a11897/?utm_term=.c5b059d7dfaa%20">Washington Post</a> in 1981, saying he wanted to hear from anyone who felt sad in the wintertime and had "gone through enough cycles to know that this is going to happen again." </p><p>The results of his subsequent telephone surveys were conclusive - he found a clear correlation between lower latitudes and sunnier dispositions. Only about 1% of people living in Florida reported experiencing sadness, Rosenthal found, while nearly 10% of those in dark corners of the country like Alaska and New Hampshire said they were feeling down.</p><p>Rosenthal also found that <a href="https://www.normanrosenthal.com/seasonal-affective-disorder/">women between the ages of 20 and 40</a> were twice as likely to have SAD compared to men, and suggested the hormones estrogen and progesterone may have an impact.</p><p>His new term for this seasonally-linked depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), was first included in the 'DSM' - the go-to-guide for psychologists and mental health experts - in 1987.</p><p>According to the DSM, people who have SAD are excessively fatigued, lose interest in their hobbies, tend to crave more starches and sweets, may gain seasonal weight, and have difficulty concentrating during darker months.</p><p>If you suspect you have this type of depression, it's best to see a professional - don't try to diagnose it on your own.</p><h2>But is SAD a real thing?</h2><p>Recently there's been some debate about whether 'SAD' deserves its place among other disorders. Psychologist Steven LoBello <a href="http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/2167702615615867">published a study</a> of nearly 35,000 Americans in 2016 that found no variation in their depression that could be explained by latitudes or seasonal changes.</p><p>"The belief that winter is a cause of depression, sadness, 'the blues' is very widespread in western culture," LoBello told Business Insider. But just because we believe we have SAD, he said, doesn't mean we really do.</p><p>LoBello's study, however, didn't rule out the possibility that major depression with seasonal variation exists for a very small portion of the population.</p><p>That's an assessment other clinicians largely agree with. Kelly Rohan, who studies adult mood disorders and SAD therapies at the University of Vermont, said estimates that up to 10% of people in places like Alaska have SAD are likely due to overstated self-reports. The real number of people with SAD is probably between 1-2%, she said.</p><p>"It's going to be a pretty pervasive mood state that is going to affect the person for four to five months of the year," Rohan told Business Insider. "It's not going to wax and wane depending on what's going on at work."</p><h2>What you can do about SAD</h2><p>There are at least three ways that people who've been diagnosed with SAD can combat the problem. </p><p><strong>Light therapy boxes</strong></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Shutterstock</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Artifically adding some bright light to the dark days via a light therapy box (some people call these 'happy lamps' or phototherapy boxes) can help - when used regularly and as prescribed. The boxes are meant to mimic natural, outdoor light, and researchers believe they can cause some chemical shifts in a depressed brain. Most emit more than 10,000 lux (for comparison, a typical house lamp emits around 50-80 lux, and office lights about 500 lux.)</p><p>Good light therapy boxes are designed to filter out damaging UV light, however, these are not FDA-regulated so it can be tricky to find a reliable one.  </p><p>The bulbs, which are usually white florescent and may carry the full spectrum of light, can come with side effects like mild sunburns, eye strain, and migraines. On the more serious side, <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9378689">some research has suggested</a> the lights can increase thoughts of suicide, or trigger mania. </p><p>The <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/seasonal-affective-disorder/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20364722">Mayo Clinic</a> says they should be used in the morning, and patients should spend around a half hour of time in front of their lights after waking up. But again, it's not a device that should be self-prescribed.  </p><p>"Just because you can walk into Costco and buy one doesn't mean that you should," Rohan said.</p><p><strong>Drugs</strong></p><p>Because SAD is a form of depression, antidepressants that increase serotonin in the brain and pharmaceuticals that treat major depressive disorders - particularly B<span>upropion, or Wellbutrin XL - have </span>also been shown to work.</p><p><strong>Cognitive Behavioral Therapy</strong></p><p>CBT is a form of talk therapy that's meant to change a person's patterns of doing and thinking. Rohan said that with the approach,"we're working with a person to identify negative thought patterns and habits" and then break them. </p><p>For example: "If the person is having the repetitive thought of ' I hate winter,' we might change that to 'I prefer summer to winter,' which is more of a neutral thought," she said. <br /><br />Unlike light therapy, which is palliative (you have to keep doing it to reap the benefits) CBT can have a lasting effect from year to year, so the treatment is more of a long-term solution, Rohan said. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/stanford-therapy-chatbot-depression-woebot-google-ai-2017-10">Startups in Silicon Valley</a> are working to bring this kind of talk therapy to the masses with inexpensive texting apps and chatbots.</p><h2>What to do about winter blues, even if you don't have SAD</h2><p>Most people feel a little down in the winter months - it's a time of year when <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/suicide/holiday.html">depression rates spike</a> (though suicides don't). Some clinicians refer to this sub-syndromal kind of doldrum as 'S-SAD.'<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=sunrise+winter&amp;title=Special:Search&amp;profile=default&amp;fulltext=1&amp;searchToken=bmuxl88vllsadkrryge8ory79#/media/File:Sunrise_Karkonosze_winter.jpg">Wikimedia Commons</a></span></p><p class="caption">Winter sunrise in Karkonosze, Poland.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>And there's no doubt that seasonal changes impact on our routines. A <a href="http://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1005824">November 2017 study</a> studied cell phone use data from a million people living in densely packed, artificially lit European cities. The researchers found that people were up and on the phone well past 11 or 11:30 p.m. in the summer months, while in the winter, they stopped gabbing by 10:30.</p><p>Here are some things that can help.</p><p><strong>Go for a walk first thing in the morning, just after the sunrise.</strong></p><p>"Light therapy is based on the theory that the biological clock becomes sluggish in the wintertime due to later dawns," Rohan said.</p><p>With a morning walk, you're getting aerobic exercise (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/best-exercise-for-brain-mental-health-2017-10">always helpful for mental health</a>) while the light is jump-starting your circadian clock.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Eric Miller</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><strong>Don't shift your routine to the couch.</strong></p><p>The fact that it's dark and cold at the end of a work day isn't a good reason to ditch your gym routine. Keep staying active, and if you enjoy winter sports, bundle up and get out there.</p><p><strong>Make an effort not to change your activity level too much.</strong></p><p>During the darker months, continue seeing people, making dates with friends, and keeping appointments.
