In October, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories had to ‘isolate’ its servers and took ‘preventive actions’ in the wake of a ransomware attack. The incidence of hackers trying to breach the firewalls of the healthcare industry have only increased during the coronavirus pandemic.To be fair, the Indian healthcare industry isn’t particularly careful about connecting to the internet. For instance, in June, the CEO of Hackrew and IIT Guwahati graduate <a href="https://medium.com/bugbountywriteup/how-screwed-is-indian-healthcare-data-fa4584be8a04">Sai Krishna Kothapalli</a> was able to view, edit and delete classified personal information of lakhs of patients all over India. Healthcare industry faces the most expensive data breaches “Financially motivated criminal groups continue to target this industry via ransomware attacks,” said Verizon’s annual Data Breach Investigations Report 2020. Healthcare industry takes nearly a year to track down cybersecurity issues While some data breaches can be attributed to human error or a system glitch, already 50% of them in the healthcare sector are due to malicious attacks. The healthcare industry also takes the longest amount of time to detect a breach and then contain the attack. Another Indian pharmaceutical giant reports cybersecurity breach within two weeks of ransomware hack on Dr Reddy’s

San Francisco, At least 24 <keyword id="127567" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Big-companies">big companies</keyword> including tech giants like <keyword id="28115" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Intel">Intel</keyword>, <keyword id="6390344" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="CISCO">Cisco</keyword>, <keyword id="141089" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="VMware">VMware</keyword> and Nvidia are part of the <keyword id="10446262" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SolarWinds-hack">SolarWinds hack</keyword> allegedly orchestrated by Russia-backed cybercriminals, the media reported. The suspected <keyword id="1768473" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Russian-Hackers">Russian hackers</keyword> installed malware in the Orion software sold by the IT management company SolarWinds, and accessed sensitive data belonging to several US government agencies, at least one hospital and a university, reports Wall Street Journal. The report said on Monday that several tech companies also suffered data breach in this massive hack operation. Cisco, Intel, Nvidia, Belkin, and VMware have all had computers on their networks software infected with the malware. "Cisco confirmed that it found the malicious software on some employee systems and a small number of laboratory systems". The company was still investigating the hack. Intel "is investigating the incident and has found no evidence the hackers used the backdoor to access the company's network". VMware said it found "limited instances" of the malicious software in its systems. "The attackers also had access to the California Department of State Hospitals and Kent State University". An Nvidia spokesman told the WSJ that the company has "no evidence at this time that Nvidia was adversely affected and our investigation is ongoing." SolarWinds had stated that "fewer than 18,000" companies were impacted. The Journal gathered digital clues from victim computers collected by threat-intelligence companies Farsight Security and RiskIQ. It then used decryption methods to reveal the identities of some of the servers that downloaded the malicious code. "In some cases, the analysis led to the identity of compromised organisations and showed when the code was likely activated — indicating that the hackers had access", the report mentioned. Microsoft President Brad Smith last week said that they have identified more than 40 customers who have been affected by nation-state hackers who installed malware in SolarWinds' Orion platform. Cybersecurity firm FireEye's CEO Kevin Mandia had said that "we are witnessing an attack by a nation with top-tier offensive capabilities," and the Washington Post reported that a hacker group backed by the Russian government is behind data breaches at the Treasury and Commerce departments and other US government agencies. According to Smith, the attack is ongoing and is being actively investigated and addressed by cybersecurity teams in the public and private sectors, including Microsoft. The hacking group, known as APT29, or Cozy Bear, is behind the attack on FireEye, accessing its internal network and stealing hacking tools the company uses to test the networks belonging to its customers. "While roughly 80% of these customers are located in the United States, this work so far has also identified victims in seven additional countries," Smith informed in a blog post. The countries are Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Spain, the UK, Israel and the UAE. Intel, Cisco, VMware also part of big SolarWinds hack, suffered data breach, says report

San Francisco, A day after it was disclosed that <keyword id="10474761" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="israeli-intelligence-firm-nso-group">Israeli intelligence firm NSO Group</keyword> hacked iPhones of 36 <keyword id="2068899" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Al-Jazeera-journalists">Al Jazeera journalists</keyword>, top tech giants like <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> <keyword id="6355629" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword>, Cisco, VMware and the Internet Association filed an amicus brief in a legal case brought by Facebook-owned <keyword id="790242" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WhatsApp">WhatsApp</keyword> against the NSO Group. The NSO Group is currently embroiled in a legal battle with Facebook, which last year accused that the Israeli spyware maker used Pegasus in WhatsApp to infect some 1,400 people, mostly celebrities, journalists and human rights activists. Facebook has submitted detailed proof in the court about the Israeli company and the allegedly hacking into at least 1,400 WhatsApp users via its controversial surveillance software. Tom Burt, Corporate Vice President, <keyword id="10474762" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="customer-security">Customer Security</keyword> and Trust at Microsoft, said late on Monday that the NSO Group's business model is dangerous. "One of these 21st-century mercenaries, called the NSO Group, is attempting to cloak itself in the legal immunity afforded its government customers, which would shield it from accountability when its weapons inflict harm on innocent people and businesses," he emphasised. Burt said that private companies should remain subject to liability when they use their cyber-surveillance tools to break the law, or knowingly permit their use for such purposes, regardless of who their customers are or what they're trying to achieve. "That's why today we filed an amicus brief  along with Cisco, GitHub, Google, LinkedIn, VMWare and the Internet Association  in a legal case brought by WhatsApp against the NSO Group," he said. "We hope that standing together with our competitors today through this amicus brief will help protect our collective customers and global digital ecosystem from more indiscriminate attacks". Researchers from Canada-based Citizen Lab have revealed that the Pegasus spyware compromised iPhones of dozens of journalists. In July and August this year, government operatives used NSO Group's Pegasus spyware to hack 36 personal phones belonging to journalists, producers, anchors, and executives at Al Jazeera. The personal phone of a journalist at London-based Al Araby TV was also hacked, said researchers in a report that came out on Sunday. The NSO Group sold Pegasus to governments, which could be installed on a device simply by calling the device via WhatsApp and the device's owner did not even have to answer. "Even if the tools are sold to governments who use them for narrowly targeted attacks, there are a variety of ways they can still fall into the wrong hands," said Burt. According to him, private-sector companies creating these weapons are not subject to the same constraints as governments. "Private actors like the NSO Group are only incented to keep these vulnerabilities to themselves so they can profit from them, and the exploits they create are constantly recycled by governments and cybercriminals once they get into the wild". Inside, a metal meat grinder clamps onto a white marble worktop. A selection of fresh steaks, chicken, smoked bacon, and mackerel chill inside the front counter. It looks like a retro-style butcher shop - with one major difference.The butchers only produce vegetarian meats.The first of its kind, the shop is fittingly called <a href="https://www.vegetarianbutcher.com/">The Vegetarian Butcher</a>. Since the shop was founded in 2010, the demand for its products has grown tremendously. They are working to make all of their products 100% plant-based.The process is simple. The "butchers" mix the plants with flour and water into metal machines that look similar to pasta makers.
