The sale of <keyword id="79111" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pork" source="Orion">pork</keyword> meat and related products has been banned in <keyword id="6355192" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lucknow" source="Orion">Lucknow</keyword> following the spread of African swine fever among pigs. District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar imposed the ban following confirmation of over 100 pig deaths due to African swine fever by the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, <keyword id="6491125" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="anand-nagar" source="Orion">Anand Nagar</keyword> (ICAR-NIHSAD) Bhopal. The district magistrate has directed the <keyword id="6356039" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lucknow-municipal-corporation" source="Orion">Lucknow Municipal Corporation</keyword> (<keyword id="48570" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lmc" source="Orion">LMC</keyword>) and the animal husbandry department to take every step to prevent the spread of this disease among pigs. He has ordered intensive cleaning, disinfection and sanitisation work in the affected areas on a war-footing. He also imposed a ban on the movement of pigs in the disease-affected areas, besides prohibiting any type of pig market in the city. The district magistrate has further asked the LMC to start an awareness campaign for pig farmers to make them aware about the African swine fever. The authorities have also been directed to ensure treatment of pigs. He has warned against pigs roaming in the open and the farmers have been advised to keep them in enclosures. Teams of the animal husbandry department and LMC will remain in contact with pig farmers and will help in disinfecting and cleaning areas where pigs are kept. Pork meat sale banned in Lucknow as swine flu fever spreads

The <keyword id="43254" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yogi-Adityanath">Yogi Adityanath</keyword> government in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> has decided to impose night curfew in Lucknow, <keyword id="6357478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kanpur">Kanpur</keyword> and Varanasi from Thursday. The curfew will come into effect on April 8 and will remain effective till April 16. The night curfew will be enforced from 10.p.m to 6.a.m. According to an order issued by Lucknow district magistrate Abhishek Prakash, the night curfew will be applicable only in <keyword id="6356039" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="lucknow-municipal-corporation">Lucknow Municipal Corporation</keyword> area, and not in rural Lucknow. The supply of fruits, vegetables, milk, LPG, petrol-diesel and medicine will continue. Government and semi-government personnel working night shifts and private sector personnel engaged in essential goods services will be exempted. The restrictions will not be applicable for medical, nursing and para medical institutions, he said. People coming and going at railway station, bus stations, and airport will be able to travel by showing their ticket. No restrictions have been imposed on the movement of freight trains. Night curfew imposed in Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi till April 16

The Gorakhpur district administration on Saturday decided to impose a <keyword id="739481" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Night-curfew">night curfew</keyword> till April 18 in the wake of rising coronavirus cases. Gorakhpur District Magistrate Vijyendra Pandiyan said the night <keyword id="23410" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Curfew">curfew</keyword> will be imposed from 9 pm to 6 am. Night curfew imposed in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district from 9 pm to 6 am till April 18

A decision to this effect has been by the executive committee and a budget of ₹10 lakh for the beautification work has also been approved. The Gulala Ghat in the old city is better known as a cremation site. Former MP, late Lalji Tandon, had beautified the area, making access easier to the place. The LMC will now develop a green belt around the banks of the Gomti river and will create a garden with a variety of flowers and plants. Lucknow's Gulala Ghat to be developed as movie shooting destination to attract film fraternity

The <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> government has decided to make it mandatory for all dog owners to get licences for their pets. It began with <keyword id="6355192" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lucknow" source="Orion">Lucknow</keyword> and will soon be extended to all cities in Uttar Pradesh. In case of no licence, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed on the owner and the dog may even be confiscated by the municipal authorities. The civic authorities will soon conduct a door-to-door survey of pet owners from June 1. It will penalise those who do not have the licence of their pet dogs. Eight Lucknow Municipal Corporation (<keyword id="48570" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lmc" source="Orion">LMC</keyword>) teams with four members each, will conduct the door-to-door survey. As per LMC records, there are around 4,000 pet dogs in the city. Owners of only about 2,500 pet dogs took or renewed the license last year. LMC chief veterinary officer Dr Arvind Rao said the teams will seize pet dogs without the licence and release them only after the owners pay a fine of Rs 5,000. If the owner fails to pay the fine, the pet will be sent to the LMC dog shelter home in <keyword id="6385711" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indira-nagar" source="Orion">Indira Nagar</keyword>, he added. "Every pet owner is required to carry a bag to pick the dog's poop and dispose it of but many do not follow the rule. "We get four complaints daily from neighbours of pet owners on dogs defecating outside their homes," Dr Rao added. After the pet dog survey is completed, the LMC plans to round up stray dogs in urban areas. This is being done in view of the spurt in cases where stray dogs have attacked children leading to some deaths too. UP govt wants dog owners to get pet licences; to conduct door-to-door survey

Lucknow, Jun 20 () Six people working in the Uttar Pradesh Helpline 112 have tested positive for COVID-19, following which the office has been closed for sanitisation till Monday, a police officer said. They are of the technical team and work in the server area, he said, adding that all of them are asymptomatic. "After one of the personnel working in UP-112 tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, samples of 30 people were taken. Five of them have tested positive for COVID-19," ADG, UP-112, Asim Kumar Arun said in a statement. The ADG said the building has been closed for the next 48 hours for sanitisation. All employees will work from home and the Prayagraj centre will take calls till the office here is closed, he said "The contact tracing of these people is going on," Arun said, adding that the Lucknow Municipal Corporation is fumigating and sanitising the building. "People have been informed that if their calls to 112 do not get connected then complaints can be registered through the social media handle and 1073 number, which will connect with the control room of the respective district," the officer said in the statement. New Delhi, Apr 1 () FDI-funded realty firm Experion Developers on Wednesday said it has donated Rs 1.85 crore to PM CARES Fund for fighting the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to the Rs 1.85-crore contribution, Experion Developers has extended the material supply of medicines and essential items to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), the company said in a statement. The firm has also contributed Rs 20 lakh to Haryana Corona Relief Fund. The availability of ICU beds with ventilators in these hospitals has gone down to zero. Such hospitals include giant private and corporate names like Max, Fortis, Indraprastha Apollo, and Aakash Healthcare. The Center-run Ram Manohar Lohia and municipality-owned Hindu Rao hospitals, which are among the 74 out of the 93, have less than five beds with ICU and ventilator facility in each. The doctors said they have been observing this scene for the last 15-20 days since the cases in Delhi spiked after hitting a plateau. "We have been facing this scenario since mid-August," said Avi Kumar, Senior Consultant Pulmonology at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Okhla. Despite this, the majority of the influx to these hospitals have come from cities in other states. As per a rough estimate, 60-70 per cent beds have been occupied by the patients from different cities who came to Delhi for treatment. Besides, the patients are taking longer to recover, as well. "People are coming from cities like Lucknow and Varanasi for the treatment in Delhi hospitals. They are taking more than two weeks, at least for the recovery. However, many patients develop residual symptoms, and they take an additional two weeks to cope with post-Covid trauma," added Avi Kumar. "A particular set of patients are taking more time to recover. These patients have pre existing co-morbidities like uncontrolled diabetes. Many patients are on high-flow oxygen for over a month," said Akshay Budhraja, a senior pulmonologist at Aakash healthcare super speciality Hospital, Dwarka. Budhraja also said that 30 per cent of Corona patients in his hospital are severely sick and could be put on ventilator support in the coming days. "So we will not see empty beds anytime soon," he added. The situation could lead to further crisis. The daily infection of Covid-19 in the national capital, which was limited to under 1,000 for a while, have started recording more than 1,700 cases in the past seven days. On two occasions, the cases crossed the 2,000-mark as well. The doctors are alarmed by the trend and fear that if it continues, the city may face acute shortage of ICU beds again in coming days, especially for severe cases coming from the capital. "As we are heading towards a second wave of the Covid-19, things are bound to get worse from here. The economic activities have reinstated, the metro is planned to run in the coming days, and people are back to carelessness in following safety measures. In this situation, we may face the ICU beds crisis again," said Pankaj Solanki, who runs Dharamveer Solanki Hospital, a dedicated Covid facility in Rohini. Many private hospitals in Delhi run out of ICU beds as COVID-19 cases spike

Mumbai, Apr 8 () Tata Motors on Wednesday said it is focusing on the supply of essentials to the communities most affected the COVID-19 lockdown, facilitating production of protective gears and medical kits to curb spread of COVID-19 as part of its CSR initiative. The company has so far provided over 25,000 packets of cooked meals and over 5,000 grocery kits (ration) to migrants and stranded communities, urban slums, drivers, co-drivers, mechanics, contractual and temporary workers, among others as part of the initiative, Tata Motors said in a release. In addition to this, the company has established two helpline numbers for temporary and contractual workmen for food related requests in Lucknow and is providing water to 19 police stations and traffic police in Pune, it said. Tata Motors also said it has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation to distribute food packets and personal protective kits to truck drivers visiting companies "Saarthi Aaram Kendra (SAK)" in Narsapura (near Bengaluru) and Bawal (near Gurugram). Besides, the company is supporting and assisting self-help groups to manufacture home-made certified masks and sanitisers for distribution across hospitals, vendors, health-workers, police stations, army personnel and in communities around the company's plants. Till date, the company has enabled the manufacturing of 17,000 home-made certified masks, it said, adding that it has also facilitated N95 masks, sanitisers and personal protective equipment kits that are being distributed to municipal hospitals. Leveraging its rich expertise in food and hospitality services, the key initiative of ITC Hotels has been food distribution across cities based on the requirements of the local administration as well as hospitals, the company said in a statement. (Eds: combines related stories)Lucknow/Chennai, Apr 21() The governments of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Delhi on Tuesday decided to arrange COVID-19 tests for media persons even as some journalists from a Tamil news TV channel in Chennai tested positive for the infection in a fresh incident involving scribes. As media persons face mounting health risks in coronavirus coverage, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has given cash incentives totalling Rs 31.10 lakh to 176 journalists in the state in recognition of their work in reporting of the outbreak. The Centre also said it is considering sending an advisory to media establishments on the need for journalists to take adequate safety measures. "Not less than 25 people have tested positive from the 90 plus samples (for confirmatory RT-PCR test) taken," a Tamil Nadu health department official told in Chennai, days after two journalists, including one who worked with the same channel confirmed positive for COVID-19. The official also said the test results of those associated with the television channel including some journalists were being collated. Tamil Nadu has recorded 1,596 coronavirus cases. Addressing the media online, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the government will start COVID-19 testing for media persons from Wednesday, two days after at least 53 journalists from Mumbai had tested positive for coronavirus. "We have set up a centre. All media houses and journalists will be informed about it. Interested mediapersons can undergo tests from tomorrow morning at the centre," Kejriwal said. The number of COVID-19 infections has crossed 2,000 in the national capital. The Uttar Pradesh Government said orders have been issued for coronavirus testing of accredited journalists who are interested. "Orders have been issued for coronavirus testing of accredited journalists state headquarter in Lucknow," Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi told reporters. State Director (Information) Shishir said, "Accredited journalists of state headquarter can get themselves tested for presence of coronavirus. This has started from Tuesday, and will be done in Lok Bhavan in Lucknow." On April 19, Hemant Tiwari, president of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Mukhalaya Manyata Praapt Samvadata Samiti, wrote a letter to the UP Government demanding coronavirus testing for journalists. In the country's most populous state, the COVID-19 cases have touched 1,300. During a special camp organised at the Azad Maidan in Mumbai on April 16 and 17 for COVID-19 testing of scribes, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) collected swab samples of 171 media persons, including electronic and print media journalists, photographers and cameramen. "Out of the 171 mediapersons, 53 tested positive for coronavirus," BMC spokesperson Vijay Khabale said on Monday, adding most of those who tested positive are asymptomatic at present. All the media persons found infected with coronavirus will be kept in isolation and a process was underway to find out suitable places, he said. Efforts were also on to trace their high and low risk contacts. The number of coronavirus cases in the country's commercial capital is over 2,000. On Monday night, the BMC decided to isolate the 53 media persons at a hotel in Goregaon for the next 14 days. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, meanwhile, decided to place herself under quarantine after some journalists with whom she had interacted recently tested positive for the coronavirus infection. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javdekar on Monday expressed shock over the Mumbai incident involving media persons, and said an advisory is being issued to all newspaper and media establishments to ensure that adequate precautions are taken. Pointing out that there are about 1,000 journalists in Bengaluru alone, Siddaramappa asked the health commissioner to fix the date, time and place for the camp. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar. had written to the chief minister, requesting that a medical camp be held to identify journalists affected with the virus, after which the latter gave the go ahead. "Our concern is that you should not overlook your health while performing your duty. "I request you to please take care of your health and undergo medical examination," Yediyurappa tweeted. In Sikkim, Chief Minister Tamang presented a cheque for Rs 31.10 lakh to Joseph Lepcha, president of the Press Club of Sikkim, on Monday for distribution of the cash incentive to the journalists of daily and weekly newspapers, besides those from electronic and digital media for coverage of the coronavirus outbreak in the state. A total of 135 journalists of daily newspapers will get Rs 20,000 each, while 41 journalists of weekly newspapers as well as of electronic and digital media will get Rs 10,000 each, Tamang said. The chief minister lauded the members of the media fraternity for their valuable contribution in ensuring timely dissemination of news and information to the people on the coronavirus outbreak. He said the financial incentive is a small gesture from the state government to express gratitude towards the media persons who have risked their lives for news gathering and dissemination during the difficult time of the COVID-19 outbreak. A Union Health ministry official also expressed concern over some journalists getting infected by coronavirus, and said when they attend the call of duty, they should take the required precautions. "Follow the norms of social distancing and wear face masks. Whoever needs to be tested as per sampling criteria will be tested," said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the ministry. Voicing concern over several journalists testing positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu and other states, PMK founder leader S Ramadoss urged media organisations to protect their staff and suggested that the government can do away with press conferences on COVID-19. While the operations of medical professionals and police personnel could not be scaled down in the fight against COVID-19, the work style of scribes may be altered so as to prevent them from getting infected, Ramadoss said in a statement. Rather than convening a press conference, the information sought to be conveyed in such gatherings can be sent to media houses as 'press releases,' he said, adding if video footages were needed by television channels, these could be arranged by government information and public relations wing. As the country entered the critical phase of Coronavirus pandemic, the number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 4,400 mark. At least 292 people have recovered from the deadly coronavirus across the country. However, 109 deaths have also been reported from different states. The total number includes 66 foreign nationals, and one person who has migrated. There are now 4,067 active cases of COVID-19, said the ministry. According to Health Ministry data, Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with 690 active cases followed by Tamil Nadu which has 571 cases, while Delhi has 503. District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said, "Curfew has been clamped in Madanpura under the limits of Dashashwamedh police station, Bajardiha under Bhelupur, Gangapur and Lohta, both under Mirza Murad police station area. This has been done for proper screening of people of these localities, sanitization and other necessary exercises." UP man shot dead over remarks on Tablighi Jamaat A 28-year-old man was allegedly shot dead on Sunday after a quarrel when he blamed Tablighi Jamaat members for the spread of coronavirus. The altercation took place at a grocery shop in Bakshi Modha village in Kareli police station area when some people were discussing a newspaper report. Lotan Nishad blamed Tablighi Jamaat for spreading coronavirus across the country, police said. Some others objected to his remarks, and there was a scuffle. Later, he was shot in the head with a country-made gun and died while being taken to hospital, police said. A senior police officer said Mohammed Sona and another man have been arrested. Eight others have been booked for the crime and police are trying to trace them.
