Most IT sector companies are expected to present a muted earnings report card for the first quarter of FY24. Within the IT pack, mid-tier companies like L&amp;T Technology Services (LTTS), Persistent Systems and Coforge are expected to show better growth <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/it-companies-like-tcs-infosys-wipro-hcl-tech-q1-2023-24-earnings-preview/articleshow/101482733.cms">as compared to their larger peers</a>. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys are expected to show a flat revenue growth in constant currency (CC) terms QoQ, while Wipro is expected to post a decline. The rest of the midcap universe, however, is expected to present fair growth with the exception of Cyient and Mphasis, which are likely to see declines. “Mid-tier IT growth premium is expected to continue with sequential growth performance led by Persistent Systems. High wage costs will most likely eat into the margins of most tech companies, including the bigger ones. Mphasis, which is largely expected to report a revenue decline, is expected to deliver a better performance in terms of margins. “EBIT margin expected to be up slightly, by 10 bps QoQ, due to higher offshore mix and operational efficiencies despite revenue drag,” said IIFL Securities. EBIT refers to earnings before interest and taxes. LTTS, which will see the full impact of SWC acquisition this quarter, is expected to deliver double-digit revenue growth but its margins are expected to be impacted. The company acquired Smart World &amp; Communication (SWC) Business of L&amp;T in January 2023. “Organic margin to see strength aided by revenue growth but reported margin to see a dip of around 170 bps QoQ led by the impact of SWC integration,” says a report by Axis Capital. In spite of a bleak sectoral outlook, most analysts are closely watching how the second half of the year will pan out. They will be paying close attention to the deal commentary, growth that’s to be seen in the top clients, and hiring and attrition trends to hunt for any silver lining in the dark clouds. Mid-tier IT companies expected to outperform the big guns

Thanks to cost-effective training kits for surgeons and advancements in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and <keyword id="6369782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="augmented-reality">augmented reality</keyword> (AR), half of all surgeries in India could be assisted by robots by 2025, says L&amp;T Technology Services at a symposium on advancements in the field of robot-assisted surgeries. “Innovative low-cost training systems such as the Endo-Training kit and new VR/AR based training simulators such as RoSS promises to address the needs of the fast-growing clinical robotic sector,” said Professor Kesh Kesavadas, the director of healthcare engineering systems at the University of Illinois. Currently, only 10% of surgeries in India are robot assisted. “Robotics is a state-of-the-art technology that offers superior vision, improved flexibility and great accuracy surpassing humans while performing complex tasks,” said LTTS in a press release. Experts believe that robotic assistance can help in surgery, rehabilitation efforts and therapeutic practices. Prof Kesavadas said that training surgeons in the use of robotics is a major challenge in India. In five years, half of all surgeries will be assisted by robots: LTTS

<ul><li><keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>’s top IT sector companies have reduced their headcount by 75,000 in the last one year.</li><li>New GCCs setting-up operations in India might have hired a similar number of <keyword id="19913553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tech" source="keywords">tech</keyword> talent, say experts.</li><li>Even with renewed hiring, IT sector hiring as a whole suffered even as software product company hiring went down in the last 12 months.</li><li>In 2024, hiring intent in the IT sector increased only 3%, even as overall hiring intent is at 19%, says Taggd. </li></ul>Headcount in the top IT services firms in India is down by 75,000 in the last one year. However, experts say that there is no large-scale furore over joblessness in the system due to the extensive hiring undertaken by global capability centers (GCCs). Many new GCCs are setting-up shop in India, which is giving a much-needed push to sluggish tech talent intake by IT services companies. Six out of eight IT bellwethers like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, LTI Mindtree, Cognizant and Tech Mahindra saw their headcount go down in the last 12 months, as per Xpheno, a staffing services company. 2022. “The calendar year of 2024 too has begun with a rollback of headcounts to a pre-two year level, in what is clearly a cycle of sustained adversities the IT services cohort is dealing with,” said Kamal <keyword id="20519296" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="karanth" source="keywords">Karanth</keyword>, co-founder of Xpheno. GCCs: The bright spot It’s not just IT services companies are cutting down hiring, job demand in software companies saw massive drop along with startups. But there is one bright spot in the tech market which is GCCs. “GCCs had recruited similar numbers (around 60,000) in the last one year, and that’s why we do not see a bloodbath on the streets. Around 100-110 GCCs set-up shop in India in the last two years, and 60 of them came in the last one year itself,” Karanth tells Business Insider India. GCCs are international companies which set-up shop in India, which takes care of activities like business support functions, back-office tasks, IT infrastructure and more. Since they kick-off operations, most of them hire anywhere between 500-2,000 people. GCCs have now become one of the six top sectors which hire tech talent that includes IT services companies, software product companies, startups, consulting firms and non-tech sectors which hire tech talent. GCCs, IT services and software product companies are the three sectors which hire techies in large numbers “Among the three, only GCCs will continue to hire in 2024, while IT services and software product companies will see at least two muted quarters ahead,” says Karanth. Going by their enthusiastic uptake of office spaces, they seem to be intent on hiring in large numbers. As per a Colliers report, office space uptake of around 30 mn square feet with large deals (of over 100,000 sq ft) have shown an impressive 24% annual growth in 2023. Almost 40% of the large deals in the top six cities have come from GCCs, particularly from technology and BFSI sectors. “More than half of the large GCC deals achieved closure in the last quarter of 2023, indicating renewed momentum in GCC activity in the country. For the fourth quarter of FY23, the pure-play engineering services company recorded Rs 2,096 crore, a growth of 19 per cent YoY, with a net profit of more than Rs 309 crore, a 18 per cent growth. During the quarter, LTTS won a $40 million deal and three $10 million plus total contract value (TCV) deals. "FY23 was a landmark year for us as we crossed a billion dollars in revenue run rate and Rs 1,000 crore in annual profits. He said with the state already experiencing three COVID-19 waves and bracing for the fourth, studies about the pandemic will be included in the syllabus to keep the younger generation prepared in the future. "It is a global threat and students should be aware of it," Dash said. COVID-19 management and climate change will be included in the syllabus in the second term of the current academic year. Due to the pandemic situation, only 75 per cent of the syllabus was taught in the last couple of years, but from the current academic session, 100 per cent of the class 10 syllabus will be covered and questions asked accordingly in the board examinations, the minister said. The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha has on Saturday notified the scheme of assessment, and syllabus breakup for the 2022-23 academic session, which has been approved by the School and Mass Education Department in June 2022. As per the official notification, the 2022-23 academic session will be from May 2022 to April 2023, and it will be divided into two terms. The first term will be from May to October 2022 and the second from November 2022 to April 2023. New Delhi, Jan 23 () L&amp;T Technology Services (LTTS) on Thursday said that it has joined a Qualcomm program to provide smart city solutions to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system integrators.
 The community matchmaking program brings together smart solutions providers with municipalities or systems integrators looking to solve problems.
 "L&amp;T Technology Services has joined the Qualcomm Smart Cities Accelerator Program to collaborate on providing smart ecosystem solutions and services to help global enterprises accelerate the digital transformation to smart urban infrastructure," the company said in a filing to BSE.
 This can help drive additional value and integrate solutions with secure interoperability, edge processing and an ecosystem to deploy at scale, it said, adding that LTTS has expertise in smart ecosystems - smart cities, smart warehousing and smart manufacturing solutions.
 "Together with Qualcomm Technologies' global technology leadership in edge compute capability, cutting-edge processors and wide-area and local-area communications technologies, LTTS can offer a portfolio of digital offerings to address energy conservation, operational efficiency and digital transformation to cities, making them smarter and more sustainable," as per the filing.

L&T Tech joins Qualcomm program for smart city solutions

New Delhi, Jan 17 () IT company L&amp;T Technology Services on Friday posted a 10 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 204 crore during the quarter ended December 31, 2019 mainly on account of business growth in North America.
 The company had posted a net profit of Rs 185.6 crore in the same period a year ago.
 "We had a strong performance in three segments - transportation, plant engineering, and medical devices that are each growing in excess of 20 per cent on year-on-year (YoY) basis. Digital and leading-edge technologies - the growth driver for ER&amp;D ( Engineering and R&amp;D), contributed to 41 per cent of third quarter revenues and grew by 29 per cent YoY," L&amp;T Technology Services Limited (LTTS) CEO and Managing Director Keshab Panda said in a statement.
 The company's revenue increased 8.1 per cent to Rs 1,423 crore in the quarter from Rs 1,316.9 crore in October-December 2018-19.
 "We are seeing a new set of opportunities as customers seek disruptive technologies like AI, sensor fusion and industrial robotics to strengthen their market competitiveness," Panda said.
 The company opened its 9th design center outside India, Aerospace and Defense Engineering Design Center in Rockford, Illinois (US), that will cater to the development of high-performance engineering solutions for the global aerospace and defence industry. The revenue of the company from telecom and high-tech segment declined 26.7 per cent on year-on-year basis.
 LTTS' revenue in North American market grew by 13.7 per cent, while it recorded dip in all other main markets. 
 The company's revenue in Europe and India declined by 6.3 per cent and 1.8 per cent, respectively.
 Onsite projects contributed 44 per cent to the total revenue of the company and the rest was from offshore projects.
 Shares of LTTS closed at Rs 1,634.8 apiece on the BSE on Friday, 1.15 per cent lower than the previous close. PRS RVK
